The Bells

The bells rang,.........once,.......twice,......three times.

The casket lay there, silent and beside it a pegasus with a rainbow coloured mane, silently sobbing. She couldn't believe, she just couldn't that the lifeless body infront of her was her dear friend Twilight. She placed her hoof on her friends cheek, it was cold.

"No," she said.

"This can't be real!" she yelled.

"This is all my fault," she said.

"If only i was faster," "If only i had been quicker, you would be alive!" she yelled.

The bells rang again.

"Is this your cruel way of tormenting me Twi?" she asked.

"Is this your idea of a joke?!" She exclaimed.

"ANSWER ME!" she yelled. The corpse lay there silent.

"What's happening to me?" she said.

"I'm yelling at a corpse," she stood up and closed the casket and one last time said goodbye to her friend.

She flew home. When she arrived she threw herself on the bed.

She was flying. The sun was shining high. The wind blew through her mane. She did a loop and flew down. She heard a scream. She saw her dear friend Twilight,...she was falling. She quickly went into a nose dive, she flew faster and faster and faster but she couldn't reach her. The world around her became blurry. She folded her wings closer to her body increasing her speed. She finally caught up with her. She caught her in her lap, but as she looked into her eyes she could only see emptiness. Her body started to fade away and turn to sand in her own lap. The bells rang.

Rainbow woke up, sweaty.

"It was just a dream" she said.

She stood up and stretched a bit. She had something to eat and flew to Applejack's farm.

"I need some help" she tought.

The bells rang.

"Someone needs to do something about those bells," she thought to herself.

Applejack was sitting in her usual position under the tree.

"Howdy Rainbow!" she exclaimed.

"Hey Applejack," she said quietly.

"Something on your mind?" asked Applejack.

"I had a dream yesterday......about Twilight. It's my fault Applejack, she died because of me, because i was too slow," she said.

"Rainbow we are all upset, twilight was our friend, and  you shouldn't blame yourself. It was an accident, a terrible accident at that," Applejack said trying to comfort her.

"In my dream i rescued her but as i caught her she looked dead, her eyes were white and lifeless, she whispered something into my ear, she said it's my fault," Rainbow started sobbing.

Applejack approached Rainbow and hugged her "Now listen here Rainbow, Twilight was your friend and you did all you could, but it really isn't your fault,".

The bells rang.

"Someone should do something about those bells," Rainbow dash exclaimed.

"Rainbow, what bells?" Applejack asked

"Can't you hear them?" asked Rainbow.

"I dont hear anything," said Applejack

"It's probably nothing" Rainbow replied

After that she flew home to take a nap. Talking with applejack made her feel better.

That night she dreamed again. She was walking when suddenly the ground under her hoofs disappeared. She tried to flap her wings but nothing happened, she looked at her back and was surprised to find two bloody  stubs, the bone poking out. Her surroundings changed, everything turned dark, she looked at her hoofs and noticed they were turning into sand, she was starting to fade away....the bells rang. She suddenly found herself in a square white room. In the middle stood a hooded figure.

"Who are you?" asked Rainbow.

The bells rang again.

The figure looked upon the pegasus, it's eyes white as the snow, it's skin worn and rotten.

"save me," the figure said.

"how?" asked the young pegasus.

"save me," the figure said again, with a louder voice.

"Tell me how!" cried Rainbow Dash

The figure moved closer to the pegasus, it's eyes white, empty, no emotion coming out of them. The figure stood there in front of the pegasus.

It suddenly screamed at the top of it's rotten lungs "SAVE ME!"

The bells rang.

Rainbow woke up sweaty. The nightmare left her with a bad headache. She decided the best way to clear her mind would be a nice flight over ponyville. She flew high and low, she did a few loops. As she was flying she noticed something below her. As she looked closer she could see her friend twilight falling. She went into a nose dive. She could hear bells. She flew faster and faster catching up to the falling unicorn. The bells got louder. She was flying faster and faster, she could almost touch the unicorns body. She extended her hoof and as soon as she touche her everything went black.

She found herself in a dark and long corridor, all she could see was a faint light in the distance. She walked closer too it. She could see someone there. She walked closer. She could see the hooded figure from before. She could hear bells ringing. She walked closer. The hooded figure stood infront of a grave. The grave was empty. Next to it were 5 other graves, each with one of her friends cutie mark engraved on them. The graves were all full.

"Who are you!" Rainbow yelled.

The figure walked closer, the figure held a knife in it's hand. Blood dripped from the knife. As the hooded figure walked closer and closer, the bells got louder. The hooded figure was now right infront of Rainbow dash.

"YOU," the figure yelled.

Rainbow Dash woke up in a hospital room. Her friends standing beside her.

"How ya doing sugarcube?" asked Applejack

"I'm a little groggy, what happened?" the confused pegasus replied.

"Well we saw a sonic rainboom, and then we heard a loud crash, we ran as fast as we could, we saw you lying on the ground , we brought you to the hospital as fast as we could. The doctor said you broke every bone in your body," explained Applejack.

"On the bright side, you get to leave tomorrow." Rarity exclaimed.

"That's great, if it's alright with you i'd like to be alone for a while now," Rainbow dash said.

She wanted to think about the meaning of her dreams.

"Of course sugarcube," said Applejack.

Rainbow was left alone to think about her dreams. She was thinking, what did the figure mean by you? Am i the figure? Is this what happens to me in the future? Do i get so overcome with grief? Do i suddenly start killing my friends? These questions plagued her mind, and with each thought she could start hearing bells, they got louder and louder. She suddenly realised. The bells wont stop. The bells were driving her mad. She stood up from the bed, she opened the window, even though her wings were soar, she could still fly. She flew away. She needed to get away from this place. Away from her friends, so she could never hurt them. Then she remembered. The bells, they rang for the first time when she tried to save Twilight, right before she died. The ringing got louder. She flew down and landed on top of a steep cliff. The bells getting louder and louder. She finnaly realised. They will never stop. They will drive me insane. The figure was a vision of my future self. She took one step forward.

And with that the bells stopped.
