It was a dark, and cold day. School was over and all the ponies were excited to go home, all but one orange filly. Scootaloo had just gotten on her scooter and started to leave as her two best friends called out her name. "Scootaloo, Sweety Belle and I are goin’ over to Sweet Apple Acres with Applejack, do ya wanna join us?" asked the yellow filly by the name of Applebloom. Scootaloo just simply shook her head and rode off in a certain direction. "Do you think she's ok?" asked Sweety Belle. "I'm not sure, we should ask Applejack if we should follow her. The white filly gave an agreeing nod and they both waited patiently for Applejack to arrive.
Today was the 25th of April. Scootaloo despised this day, not because of the weather, or the temperature, but because this day had this certain date. This merciless date that stole everything away from her. This date took away her happiness and safety and instead left her with sadness, despair, and fear. This date had stolen what was precious to her; this day stole her mother away from her and blamed it all on her.
Scootaloo finally reached her destination at the Ponyville grave, as she entered the gates, a drop of rain fell on her nose, then another fell on her back and then another, soon it started to rain heavily and the once dry ground turned into wet mud, the young filly followed the path until she found the familiar rock. She sat in front of the grey rock not caring about the mud, rain soaking her purple mane and orange coat, memories flooding back.
It was wrong of the day to blame her for the accident, she didn’t mean to fall. She didn’t mean to hurt anyone, especially not her mother. Why couldn't she just listen?! Why couldn't she just have listened to her mother's warning and tried not to jump. She knew she wasn't like the other Pegasi! She knew that she couldn’t fly. All Scootaloo ever wanted was to learn to fly, she didn’t know that, that one mistake would end her mother's life. She didn’t know.
"I didn’t know!" screamed the filly. "It's all my fault!" The orange filly shut her eyes, trying to suppress the tears that were trying to flow out like a river, it was useless, all that did was force more tears to flow out. She stared at the letters crudely etched into the rock. They spelled "MOM". It wasn’t her mother's real grave. Her mother's grave was in Cloudsdale, Scootaloo could go to her mother's actual grave. But she wasn’t able to fly, and didn’t have enough money to get a hot air balloon to Cloudsdale.
Even if she could, it was hard enough being at the grave she made for her mother, and to actually be at her mother's real grave would shatter the young filly's heart into a billion tiny pieces. Besides she wasn’t welcome in Cloudsdale, being the only Pegasus that could not fly would get her teased and laughed at. Not even her own father could look at her in the eye after her mother's death. He threw her out of her home the day after her mother passed away, he got her on his back, flew her to the ground, gave her the scooter and helmet he had got her last hearth’s warming eve and took off without another word.
The filly stood there broken hearted, tears dripping on the saturated ground. "Mom, I'm sorry, I should have listened to you, you were my only protector and now...now you're gone, forever."
"I-I feel so lost, so confused without you and I-I cry everyday for you to come back. You fill my dreams and make me feel safe and every morning I wake up and I hope that you will be there standing above me but...I'm afraid mom, I'm afraid to open my eyes every morning, because I might open them and see that you are not there, and that I was dreaming and that I'm still alone." She sobbed.
"I'm still alone and there is nothing that I can do to forget you or to truly make me happy." "And I'm sorry, truly sorry that I was the reason you died"
She put her hooves over her eyes and brawled into them. I'm sorry...
