It has been 5 years since the coronation of the new princess. Twilight Sparkle now residing in Canterlot, she has been studying diligently the roles of being a leader, under the wing of her beloved teacher, Princess Celestia. Twilight has done many things over the short 5 years, including her biggest achievement, founding the United Equestrian Academy of Magic. With the help of Discord she has discovered that earth ponies and pegasi can use magic!

But not all is well, up in the far lands of the Frozen North, an ancient race of ice golems is awakening once more, these golems were the perpetrators of the Great Freeze that almost ended the three pony races when they first arrived to the lands of Equestria. The Frozen Giants were banished, with the actions of the three races uniting, both princesses were able to use the elements and defeat the leader of the Frozen Giants, Elderust, banishing him to the farthest reaches of the Frozen North. But now, after three thousand years, Elderust awakens and he plans to cover not just Equestria but the entire planet in bitter, cold, ice.
