National Liberation Federation
Celestia could not believe what he royal guardian had just told her.
“General Stardust would you please repeat it?” asked the white alicorn hopping to all that she knew that what Stardust said had just been a mistake
“Of course your highness; I have received an inform from an officer of the Equestrian-High Fire frontier, High Fire, the griffin kingdom had just suffered an immense civil war, he reported seeing tons of griffin citizens smashing and destroying every single picture of Endril, the now former king of High Fire, this was revealed to be true as when I arrived to High Fire, the royal palace was covered in flames and almost completely destroyed, the king and the rest of the royal family were nowhere to be found, however the officer also noticed me that the people lifted a new flag instead of the old one” spoke Stardust
“A new flag?” asked Celestia trying to process what her general had just told her
“It was a simple white flag with three single words, new kingdom of High Fire; the weirdest thing was that inside the ruins of the palace we could see some weird creatures inside of it, they seemed to be walking in two legs, after they left they led a weird of painting, it only said: ‘NLF’”
“NLF?” asked Celestia completely unfamiliar with the signal
“If I might add princess, I kind of know those letters, somepony told me that there exists a clandestine organization that had been causing a lot of noise recently, it’s called the National Liberation Federation, the organization is said to conduct operation upon kingdoms that aren’t working like how they should, it’s said that first they send a formal warning and if the king or queen does not answer they recur to act, some say that they had been the responsible ones of the fall of previous kingdoms and even the actual fall of High Fire” informed Stardust to a now completely surprised Celestia
It was true that recently a lot of kingdoms had fallen and new kings and queens had been elected, it was also the first time she had heard that the people choose their king; she had heard of the NLF in the past but she believed them to be only a rumor, a bad joke just to scare the royalty.
“Thank you for the report Stardust, I’ll be sure to investigate the case” she told to Stardust as he saluted and went back to the vigilance post
Celestia walked slowly to her room with only one thought in her mind: She had to pay the NLF a visit. It would obviously be very difficult; an organization of such caliber wouldn’t be outside at plain sight right?
She casted an invisible spell upon herself and went outside; after wandering through the city she decided to rest in a font, she was glad that she casted the spell, because if she hadn’t, she would be surrounded by a crowd of pony-fans and the pony-press, leaving her no time to relax and think straight.
When she was about to give up and go back to Canterlot, she saw a tall figure that seemed to be walking in two feet, curiosity made her follow the creature, she hadn’t been outside since more than a month but she would have remember a creature as strange as that one.
As she followed him, she thanked god that she didn’t bring her formal shoes, for the man walked a lot and fast; they went through half Canterlot until they arrived to a house located behind the castle ‘How I never saw it before?’ thought Celestia as she followed the man to the door of the house, it had to be the simplest house she had ever saw, even Fluttershy’s cottage seemed like a mansion compared to it, in the door stood yet another bipedal figure, this one however seemed to be a guardian as he wore an armor, the man walked beside him, he was about to enter the house when he stopped and faked a stretch just to get close to the other man’s ear
“You can sense her don’t you?” asked the man, as silently as his voice could possibly sound. The guardian simply nodded
“Let her pass, I’ll deal with her” whispered the man before the guardian opened the door for him, as he passed Celestia walked in ‘Why did he left the door open?’, the man suspected that Celestia might be asking that question so he turned to the guardian.
“You can close the door now” he spoke and the guardian did so.
With her doubts cleared Celestia followed the man through a series of ladders that seemed to never end, after 10 minutes of walking they reached a silver metal door, the man simply walked through it before disappearing.
‘What?’ thought Celestia as she proceeded to touch the ‘door’, as her hoof made contact with the surface it trespassed it ‘An illusion’ she thought as she walked through it; behind the door laid a magnificent military like base, Celestia walked through the base before she noticed that she didn’t see the man anymore, but she didn’t care as she was lost from thoughts from the sight of the base, it was incredibly huge, tons of different creatures walked through the establishment, ponies, griffins, those weird bipedal creatures, and even some others that she couldn’t remember; after a short walk she saw a big room in the bottom, it contrasted with everything else as it was the only room that did not had a guardian guarding the door, which was open.
She walked through the door and found the man staring at the door, she felt nervous for some reason but the feeling ended when the man walked beside her, however it came back at full force accompanied with a wave of confusion when the man closed the door.
“You know that I can feel you right?” asked the man
Celestia stood paralyzed by the man’s question, since when had he known that she had been following him? How did he know if the other ponies couldn’t see or feel her?
“Drop the invisible act Celestia, you and I know that you’re here in my office” said the man.
Celestia didn’t reply as she simply dispelled the spell.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Leader of the NLF” spoke Celestia with a cold tone in her voice
“Pardon me, your highness I think we haven’t been formally presented to each other” said the man as he turned to Celestia and dropped his cloth.
Celestia was speechless, the man was a human, she could still remember when her mother told her about them when she was still among the living, he was a tall pearl skinned man with elbow length plain brown hair, he wore an opened formal black shirt with blue jeans and a pair of black shoes, he wore a pair of thick black sunglasses despite the fact that there wasn’t any powerful light at all and because of this she couldn’t see his eyes.
“My name is David Verum, founder and leader of the National Liberation Federation, or NLF as you had said” said David to Celestia, who was glaring at the man with curiosity and doubt “Now before you ask, nor me nor any of the ‘humans’ you saw back there are actually that, all the creatures that resulted unfamiliar to you were once humans, we came from a different realm called ‘Earth’, however when we arrived here the magical environment had changed our bodies, now we are what you might call ‘hybrids’, each one of us had been naturally injected a sample of the blood of one of the species of ‘Terra’, me alongside one of my man are half alicorn”
“I have no questions about that, but I must ask you the reason of the NLF” said Celestia, finally speaking after David’s little speech “Were you the responsible ones for the fall of the kingdom of High Fire?”
“It will take a little until I am able to fully answer you that, if you might take a seat?” said David while signaling a seat, as he and Celestia where now sit.
“As you might have been told, the human civilization had a very different behavior than the ponies or the zebras, the ‘passive’ species of Terra, our ancestors had a common feeling, greed, we wanted power, we wanted territories, money, love, sex, whatever it was the humans wouldn’t stop until they had a piece, but in the deep of their souls they wanted it all. This greed often caused conflicts, fights and even battles, but as the battles turned worse and worse the humans discovered a horrible and chaotic way to ‘solve’ their problems, if I’m right you must be at least a little familiar with the term: we found war.
War is the highest point where the violence and cruelty can even achieve. In the recorded history we have seen magnificent civilizations fall because of others invasions, me, myself had been a witness of the consequences of war, people dying, suffering, children starving because all the money goes to war, crying for their parents death, or the feeling of insecurity if their parents will come back from the battlefield alive. It is the nearest place to hell, and very few are able to come back with their sanity intact.
There is also another way to start the wars, and that is the main goal of the NLF, as you might know there is no perfect kingdom right?” asked David only obtained a silent nod from Celestia
“And as you might know, sadly not all the monarchs are as well hearted as you, princess; the king Endril was a horrible one, he has absolutely no respect for any citizen in his kingdom, treating them as a kind of servant or slaves, in a single visit I could see it Celestia, the people were suffering, they wanted a change, they NEEDED a change, but Endril was too selfish to let the change happen, he would never do anything unless HE was the benefited one; that was the time when we sent a message, our warnings work with a series of anonymous notes, in these notes we ‘treat’ if you’d call it that way the king to change his behavior, we were very patient with Endril, we usually only send 15 letters until we start with the activity however we sent him 30 letters, and guess what? No answer. We had to lead the people to a revolution, we only wanted him to quit the title of ‘royal family’ and go to another land, hell we were even going to give them 100 000 bits to support them until they found a new home! But it turned out that the citizens of High Fire had more hate to their king than we expected, in one single attack they interfered and destroyed completely the castle, burning the official flag to ashes and changing it to the new one representing the new kingdom, before you ask our contacts have told us that the king and his family are alive”
“That explains the situation a little, but couldn’t you find a more pacific way to do it?” asked the princess still against the use of violence to solve a problem
“Celestia, would you believe me if I told you that this wasn’t the most horrible end? Let me tell you a story; France 1814, one of the most powerful countries in their time, it had also a kingdom like High Fire, with the only difference being that the king was a little less selfish than Endril, Louis XVI was a good king but the people had hunger, hunger for equality and justice, they took the situation in their hands and started a revolution, the French Revolution, it was a constant battle between the people and the royalty, it turned into 10 years of blood, battle, death of innocents, until in 1816 the kingdom fell and ended with the decapitation of Louis XVI and his family, they all died for ‘the sake of the cause’. The revolution of High Fire could had ended worse and you now it”
Celestia stood silent analyzing what David told her, he was right, the situation could had ended worse, as much as she hated to admit it David had a point.
“And would you mind telling me how could you see the situation when no one else could? They didn’t do anything about it” said the princess
David did not answer as he just took off his sunglasses, Celestia gasped at the sight of his eyes, they were literally rainbow colored; every single known color appeared simultaneously in his iris, after 5 minutes in which Celestia did not apart her eyes from his, he put his glasses back
“You remember that I told you that I and another one are half alicorn? Well, unlike my other comrades the change of environment didn’t changed me physically, it changed my eyes and gave a certain power, the power to see the things as how they are, nothing can escape my eyes, emotions, intentions, there is no lie that I can’t see, as no one can fool me”
“Celestia with all sincerity, are you able to tell me that there won’t be any situation that requires our actions like it happened in High Fire” asked David with a serious tone of voice
“No, I would be lying to you if I told that, they will occur, I don’t how severe they will be or how will they end, but they will happen” said the princess with a notable sadness in her voice
“Princess Celestia, you’re a huge difference in my plans, you alongside your sister are by record the only rightful monarchs that I’ve ever seen. I would thank you if you did not interfere, I’m sure that one day the other kings will follow your example, so until then Princess” spoke David as he opened the door, the others saw the princess but calmed down as they saw David beside her, they knew that the boss had a plan and could continue with their work.
Celestia found herself unable to sleep, all the things that David told her resonated in the deep of her mind, she had to do something for them, as unorthodox as their actions were the NLF’s goal wasn’t bad, she wanted to help but she would have to convince the royalty in order to do it, she could be the princess of the sun, but she wasn’t omnipotent in some issues, and the security of Equestria was one of them.
She stood up and quickly called Stardust
“What is it Princess?” asked Stardust
“Call the Security Council, tell them we’ll have a reunion” said Celestia
“When will it be princess?” asked Stardust wanting to tell the full information
“Tomorrow in the morning” she said as she came back to her room
‘Things will start to go wild’ thought the princess as she came back to her bed, finally being able to sleep fully.
