Family Reunions Part 1

The princesses of the day and night were enjoying lunch together on the grand balcony just off of the throne room. Princess Celestia sat in a white wicker chair and was enjoying a fruit salad. She wore a breezy white dress that showed off her tanned skin and beautiful white wings. She wore her usual golden necklace and crown, each studded with purple jems. Her multi colored hair flowed freely even though there was no wind. “Are you ready for our guest today Luna?” she asked her younger sister.
“Yes dear sister, though I just wish that they didn’t come so early.” Princess Luna yawned. She sat in a dark blue wicker chair in a long deep blue and black dress, hiding most of her pale skin and deep blue wings. She also wore her usual jewelry, a black necklace with a crescent moon design on it. Her dark purple and blue hair flowed behind her like a starry night. “I’m not accoumstomed to waking this early.” She took a sip of her blackberry smoothie through a straw.
"I know Luna but It's not very often that he comes and visits us." Celestia smiled. "Just bear with it for the rest of today and you can sleep in a bit tomorrow."
"When was the last time he visited?" Luna wondered aloud. "He just dropped in out of nowhere for a day or two then was gone the next day." She frowned deeply into her drink. "Then, decades later he shows up in the courtyard and apologizes for not dropping by in a few months."
"You can't be so upset by that Luna." Celestia said sadly. "He physically can't comprehend time like us. A decade to us could be just a month or two for him."
"And centuries are years and years are days." Luna sighed. "Sometimes I envy him in that regard. It would make some things so much easier."
"And others incredibly difficult.” Celestia nodded. “But don’t think like that Luna. He’s on a very important journey right now. We just have to be supportive.”
“I know dear sister. But I only wish that he could be a bit more...aware of the passing of time. To this day I still can not comprehend how days and years blur together like he claims, yet he is still aware that time fleets from him.”
“It’s strange for me as well, but just remember that he has spent almost his entire life studying and training with his uncle. Without any real duty to gage the passage of time for himself it would almost be expected for him to lose track of time frequently. Though you have to admit that he has gotten better in the past century.” Celestia smiled. “We have a certain town to thank for that.”
“More like a certain farmer.” Luna laughed lightly, but straightened her face as she heard some commotion from the throne room.
“Sounds like our guests have arrived.” Celestia chuckled and stood up. Luna rose as well but was beckoned by her older sister to sit back down. “Stay here for a minute Luna. I want to see what they’re arguing about.” she said and walked through the stained glass door that lead into the throne room.

Twilight Sparkle was perplexed by what she saw. Never in all her years of being Celestia’s student did she see a nightclub bouncer guarding the door to the grand balcony.
“Sorry, no von ist allowed to see princess unless on list.” The muscular man said with a thick Germane accent. He pushed back the black glasses on his face and flipped through some papers on his clipboard. He wore a black t-shirt that read “STAFF” in bold white lettering and a pair of black dress pants. “Sorry, no Smarty Smarty Pants or Douche McGee.”
“But this is an emergency.” Twilight urged. “We need to see the princesses right now.”
“Unless you’re on list I can’t let you in.” the man repeated. “Unless you can provide me with some sort of...incentive.” He held out his hand and in it was an empty bit pouch.
“What? Surely you can’t be serious!” Twilight demanded.
“I am serious. And don’t call me Shirley.” the muscular man replied.
“What makes you think that’s it’s acceptable to take bribes in order for someone to see the princesses?” Twilight bit angrily.
“I just don’t understand what he needs with money,” D grinned, “shouldn’t causing little bursts of chaos every Thursday be payment enough.”
“Oh you never were any fun Little D.” the bouncer grumbled, his accent gone. He reached up and grabbed a zipper at the top of his head and began pulling down until Discord, the god of chaos, stood atop his piled up body suit. “However it is good to see you brother.”
“Not your brother, also, you look a little different. New suit?” Little D looked at Discord thoughtfully. He was wearing his usual tattered brown suit with the sleeves stitched on. His hair was still shaggy and white like his goatee. “No? You...sharpened your horns?” Discord rolled his eyes at that remark. “Oh I know!” D said with a smile. “You’re not trapped in stone. That’s it.”
“Yes, well, I suppose my reformation is a bit of a surprise to you brother dear, but it’s true. I am using my powers to aid Celestia and Luna in whatever it is they need help with.” he grinned wickedly. “But that doesn’t mean I don’t cause a little mischief every once and a while.”
“What’s this about causing mischief, Discord?” The god of chaos’ smile fell off of his face and shattered on the floor as he turned to face the voice.
“Ah! Celestia! How good it is to see you dear. How are you feeling today?” he stammered.
“I’m fine thank you.” Celestia said with a small smile. “Playing dress-up again I see.” she eyed the piled up body suit at Discord’s feet.
“Princess Celestia!” Twilight cried happily and ran to her teacher.
“Hello Twilight.” The princess smiled happily and embraced her student. “What are you doing here today?”
“Little D and I wanted to check the archives for something to spark D’s memory.”
“Oh?” Celestia asked. “Then does this mean--”
“Our big brother is finally becoming human again!” Discord cried happily and wrapped his arms around Little D. “Oh I always knew this day would come! We have to celebrate!” Discord reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a large three tier cake and passed it to Little D. “Hold onto this, brother dear, I have to decorate the banquet hall!” The god of chaos giggled manically and flew off down the hallway, shouting jovially all the way.
“I’m not you brother.” Little D grumbled to the discord-shaped dust cloud next to him. “Hey Celly, you want this cake?” D asked and held out the giant confection to the princess. She looked around then nodded.
“Hold it out a bit more and I’ll send it to my vault.” Celestia said. D obeyed and the cake was enveloped in a soft yellow aura then promptly disappeared. “Now then D. You said that you’re looking for something in the royal archives? Then you’ve started your journey correct?”
“Yeah. This is the first step, research,” D said, “Twi’ and I are trying to find out just how long I’ve been this way and try to get a rough guess as to where I should start looking for my old home.”
“And what about Steel?” Celestia asked seriously.
“What about him?” D smirked but faltered at Celestia’s gaze. “Ok fine. I don’t really know much but what I do know is that he is training a large army, exact size I don’t know but if the members of said army have been trained under Steel specifically, well,” he shrugged, “we might as well be facing War himself.”
“I shudder to think what they are capable of.” Luna said from the balcony doorway. She stepped inside with a sheepish smile. “Hello D.”
“Hey!” D smiled widely and ran to Luna. He grabbed her by the waist and spun her around with a laugh. D held the princess of the night out at arms length. “By Faust you’re getting so big! You must be, what, thirty one by now?”
“D, you know I’m older than that, right?” Luna laughed. “You can stop treating me like a child.”
“Never.” D said quickly and brought her in for a tight hug. “So how’s my Widdle Woona doin’?”
“You’re crushing me.” she wheezed painfully.
“Oops! Sorry.” D set her down gently.
“It’s fine.” Luna said with a smile. “So, you’re becoming human?”
“Yeah I am. Twilight’s helpin’ me out here today with some research. We’re trying to get something to spark my memory, and maybe something to drink. I’m, like, super thirsty.”
“Thirsty?” Twilight asked incredulously. “You had twelve gallons just this morning!”
“Yeah, but that was hours ago.” D said with a shrug. “So, got any rain barrels around or something?” he asked Celestia.
“I think we can find something better for you to use Little D.” Celestia said with a smile. “But in the meantime, why don’t you and Twilight head down to the archives and start looking around?”
“Sounds good to me.” D nodded. “I’ll see you in a bit Lulu.” he gave her a quick hug then walked out of the room. “C’mon Twi’, we have books to read.”
Princess Luna watched sadly as Little D and Twilight Sparkle ran down the long hallway on their way to the archives. “So, he’s finally doing it.” she said to Celestia softly. “We’re going to lose our big brother.”
“Oh Luna don’t think like that.” Celestia said comfortingly.
“How can I not think any other way?” Luna shot back. “He’s been my best friend ever since I can remember and now he’s off to become human and face an entire army himself!” she bit back tears and tried to calm herself. “What if he becomes fully human Tia? What if he loses his magic or his healing ability? What if--”
“Don’t worry Luna.” Celestia shushed her little sister and wrapped her in a hug. “Everything will work out in the end. I promise you.”
“But he’ll die if he fights Steel, Tia. I don’t want him to die.” Luna cried.
“I know sweetie, neither do I, but he wouldn’t want you to focus on this. He’d want you to be happy and safe. You know how he feels about grieving.”
“I know.” Luna sniffled. “He thinks it’s ridiculous, being sad that someone is gone. Remember when he told us that at Mother’s funeral?”
“Yes,” Celestia chuckled. “I almost burnt him to cinders.”
“Was that before or after Father strangled him to death?” Luna smiled faintly.
“After, I think.” Celestia smiled back. “It was after he woke up that I gave him a piece of my mind.”
“Did you ever forgive him for it?” Luna asked softly. Celestia was quiet for a minute before she spoke.
“No. I know it was years ago but he doesn’t know how much it hurts to lose someone you care about. Until he learns this I don’t think I’ll be able to forgive him for what he said." Celestia said truthfully.
"What will you say to him when that day arrives?" Luna asked curiously.
"I don't know." Celestia said honestly. "All I can say is that I'll be supportive and understanding."
"That's all anyone can be." Luna replied softly. She looked back towards the direction Little D ran off and smiled. “I hope he makes some friends on his journey. He’s always been so lonely.”
“I think he’s off to a good start.” Celestia smiled. “He and Twilight certainly seem to be faring well together.”
“True, but I’m worried about Applejack and how she will treat D after she finds out about he and her grandmother.”
“Oh I can’t wait to see that!” Discord’s voice chimed in. Suddenly, the god of chaos formed in between the two sisters. “The look on her face will be priceless! Oh and speaking of dear old brother, where is he anyway?” Discord but a hand over his eyes and looked about.
“He and Twilight Sparkle left for the archives a moment ago Discord.” Celestia said.
“Awwww! But I just finished decorating!” Discord groaned. “If we don’t start the party now the ice cream will get cold!”
“We’re just going to have to wait for them, it shouldn’t take too long.” said Luna.
“Oh fine.” Discord huffed. “But if his cake melts it’s going to be his fault.”
