Chapter One: Just another Day
It was just another morning in Ponyville. Like every morning, I sat on the grass watching the sun rise every morning, listening to the birds sing and also the beautiful silence of morning…it was peaceful. I never really began my mornings like most Pegasi; I never really went flying or stretched my wings in the early hours. Neither did I wake up in the late hours of the mornings. I just sat with a cup of coffee and watched the sun rise, just me and the sun, both waking up to start a new day.
“Good morning Tornado.” A pony, carrying flowers to her house greeted me as she walked.
“Good morning Miss.” I smiled softly at the pony and just continued watching the sun rise. I sat back, leaning against a tree, looking out into the sun just reaching the peeks of the mountains in the distance, letting the light beam past the rocks and lightening up Ponyville. I noticed a silhouette of a Pegasus in the sky. I began squinting my eyes to see if I could see who it was, it looked like Spitfire.
“It’s Spitfire!” I thought to myself, “What would she be doing out here? Maybe an early morning fly? Or just to stretch her wings?” I kept saying in my head, I slowly took off and flew towards her. I saw her leaving a trail of fire and smoke. When I got close enough, I slowly landed on a cloud and began peeking over it at the beautiful gold mare. I had to hold the urge of being a fanboy around her, oh sweet Celestia that would be embarrassing.
“It’s always nice to stretch my wings.” She said to herself, while hovering in the sky and looking towards Cloudsdale. I kept myself behind the cloud, looking at her.
I sighed softly and then slowly went out, nervously. “Y-yeah, it is isn’t it?” I slowly approached her, scratching the back of my head, “I normally enjoy a nice relaxing morning, watching the sunrise and the sound of leaves rustling in the wind. It helps take things off my mind.”
“That sounds nice.” She responded, smiling at me. She actually spoke to me and smiled at me, I’d never felt so shocked in my life, but in a good way of course. “Well what’s your name?”
“T-Tornado Dash, but call me Tornado.” I shyly held out my hoof to shake hers, hoping she would accept the hoofshake of friendship.
“Nice to meet you Tornado, you obviously know who I am. But on the safe side, my name is Spitfire.” Spitfire gently grabbed my hoof and shook it. “You seem shy, is everything okay?”
“Yeah.” I nodded, “I just didn’t think I’d be here, shaking hooves with a Wonderbolt, especially my favourite.”
“Did I just say that, did I just say that?!” I spoke in my thoughts, “I thought I told you to stay away fanboy self!”
“Hey do you maybe want to go get breakfast or something?” Spitfire asked, looking at me with a smile. Her beautiful orange eyes sparkled in the sunlight.
“I would love too.” I nodded slowly, just smiling. “Got any places in mind?” I hovered before her, still looking into her eyes.
“Well, we could always go back to my place.” Spitfire looked back towards Cloudsdale, blinking.
“Well, lead the way.” I found myself blushing lightly; I never knew a Wonderbolt would invite me back to their house for breakfast. She began flying back to her house; of course I followed closely behind. Once we arrived, she opened the door and let me in first. Surely Spitfire was a little stricter than this. Unless she’s not the pony everypony thinks she is. Maybe she’s a stern, strict pony at the academy and at shows. But maybe when she’s not performing or commanding, she’s a sweet pony.
“Well, welcome to my home Tornado.” She walked in after me, “feel free to sit down.”
“Thank you Spitfire.” I sat down on the couch, admiring her house. Oh Celestia was it huge! I looked around at the various Wonderbolt posters she owned, and the several trophies and awards in cases and mounted on the walls.
“Wow.” I started talking again in my thoughts. “She’s so amazing, and I cannot believe I’m here, with the Captain of the Wonderbolts!” I almost squeaked in excitement, but I managed to hold it back.
“Well, breakfast is ready.” The Wonderbolt said, carrying the plates with her wings to the table. “Pancakes.”
“Did you say pancakes?” I felt my nose sniffing at the sweet scent of pancakes. I slowly trotted towards the table and saw a pile of pancakes with syrup on them.
“Yeah, I haven’t got a show until tomorrow. So why not.” Spitfire chuckled softly and sat down at the table, and then I sat down across from her. “Well, eat up.” Spitfire smirked and began eating.
“Thank you.” I started eating my pancakes slowly, just in case I make myself throw up like last time.
Spitfire instantly started a conversation. “So what else do you do around here Tornado? Anything other than watching the sunrise?” She giggled softly and continued eating.
“Yes actually, I do like to fly and make tornadoes.” I chuckled. “Of course, you have to be careful of where you put them…last time, I was lucky that I didn’t harm anypony.” I looked away in embarrassment.
“Hey don’t sweat it, accidents like that happen every day.” She waved her hoof with a smile and once she finished, she took the plates back.
“But I nearly hurt somepony.” I sounded a little stern, not offended but stern.
“You didn’t mean to do it intentionally did you?” Spitfire looked at me with a smirk.
“Of course not Spitfire.” I chuckled softly. “Well, I also spend my days on my own.” I then felt my smile drop. I looked down, remembering how I spend nearly every day alone.
“Oh, Tornado.” She sat down and held my hoof. I felt my cheeks fire up with a fury blush of red. “I’ll spend the day with you.” She smiled softly, gently lifting my head up. My blush was so bright, it began to glow off of my cheeks.
“Y-You will?” I spoke softly. “Are you sure?”
“Positive.” Spitfire nodded reassuringly and got back on her hooves. “Just because I’m famous, doesn’t mean I won’t spend time with you or anypony else does it?”
“Well you are right.” I looked up at her with a small smile, with the blush slowly fading away.
“Of course I am.” Spitfire slowly headed towards the door, as the sun was starting to finish rising over Equestria.
“Well, what are we going to do?” I asked in a soft, soothing voice.
“I want to see how good you are at flying, Tornado.” She smirked challengingly and stepped outside. I slowly followed her out as she closed the door. She took flight and headed for an area beyond Cloudsdale.
“You do?” I felt like this could be the chance to prove to her that I could make a good Wonderbolt.
“Of course, and could you show me one of your tornadoes?” Spitfire requested, while she flew towards a valley nearby.
“I think I might.” I answered, following. We reached the valley. It went on for miles; the valley had a wide split down it so I had enough room to make tornadoes. It looked beautiful. Still not as beautiful as Spitfire.
“Well, first of all.” Spitfire thought to herself for a moment. “Let’s have a race from here all the way to…where the river ends.” Spitfire followed the river with her hoof and then finally reached the end which was fortunately just a few miles away, deep into the valley.
“Ready when you are.” I smirked at her, ready to go.
“I am always ready.” Spitfire and I both got in line, preparing to dash off down to our destination. Once we both counted down to three, we darted off down into the valley. We were neck and neck, but Spitfire managed to overtake me and smirked.
“Oh I’ll catch up!” I called loudly, trying to overtake the Wonderbolt.
“Well do it then!” She taunted me, increasing her speed as we raced into the valley, deeper and deeper. I managed to keep up with her. It was neck and neck again. The Valley started to get thinner and now two paths were visible. Both would take us to the end of the river, but one would be quicker than the other. I could only hope the one I was going to go down would help me win.
“I’m going to win!” I yelled, shooting down the path on my side. The path was crooked and deadly, not as safe as I imagined it would be. Luckily I didn’t get myself killed.
“Sweet Celestia, this path is deadly!” I said in my thoughts. I heard rocks falling above me and I looked up. “Oh that can’t be good.”
“Come on, I can make this!” I encouraged myself to push harder and then I just managed to make it out. I saw Spitfire heading towards our finish line, she was trailing fire. I quickly took off after her, gaining my speed per second. Unfortunately Spitfire won me by a split second.
“I won!” Spitfire cheered. “You had a great attempt though.” She placed a hoof on my shoulder, just smiling greatly.
“Thanks.” I smiled softly, “now you said you wanted me to show you one of my tornadoes.”
“Of course, it’s in your name.” She smirked at me and looked out into the field of the valley.
“Well keep your distance, this could get hepatic.” I flew down to the field calmly, looking around to make sure there wasn’t anypony around to get in the way. “Okay, here we go.” Spitfire flew to a safe distance while I waved at her to show her I was ready.
“Go!” Spitfire called, placing her hooves around her muzzle so she could be heard.
“Don’t be worried Tornado, you were born to make these things.” I said in my thoughts, then taking a deep breath and starting to fly around in circles at a steady pace. My pace began to pick up the longer I went on. Slowly a blue figure of a tornado started to form, the more clear it became, the more wind started to wind started gushing out of it. It then became a fully formed tornado and then sent wind blasting all around. I quickly reached a safe height and saw Spitfire sitting there…amazed.
I landed next to her, watching the tornado spin. “It’s pretty awesome, isn’t it?” I said, placing a wing around her.
“That it is.” She nodded, “if not, more than awesome!” She giggled softly and kept watching the tornado.
It started to get unstable and I quickly darted off to kick it away. Once I got close, I bucked it into the distance and watched it fade away. “That was close.”
“How can you kick a tornado?” Spitfire titled her head slowly.
“Well, only I can do it, so it’s hard to explain.” I chuckled. I looked back at her with a smile and slowly flew back to her.
“Well, it’s my turn to impress you.” She smirked. “Come on, follow me.” We both began to fly back towards Cloudsdale. Well it was going great so far, I couldn’t wait to see what she was going to show me.
