//-------------------------------------------------------// Elemental Mastery -by TexPony- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue Strange beginnings In the world of magic there is a very rare and forgotten type. It is so rare that people almost entirely deny that it even existed. I am talking about elemental magic. Elemental magic comes in four types; these being earth, air, fire, and water. What is particularly strange about this magic is the fact that you must be born with the ability to use it, in other words you cannot learn it. When a foal is born with this type of magic it is up to them to find out for itself. The magic will also affect his or her personality. A common misconception is that a user may be able to harness multiple elements. This is very much a lie. Elemental magic comes from the very soul which means that only one element can be harnessed all together. But the most daunting part of elemental magic is the danger; this will be explained as we take a closer look at these magic’s characteristics, starting with fire. Fire-The element of fire can be very versatile in any form. Be it on the battlefield or in everyday life. It can be channeled from the horn or hoof when called upon. But while using this element you must be wary of the dangers. With fire you can cause harm to yourself and those around you. While with elemental flames you can somewhat control there is extreme risk of igniting something and that particular something catching everything else around it as well. You can also burn yourself and cause extreme tissue damage. Since elements are channeled from your very being you can also….. How do I put this…. Spontaneously combust. And for those of you who don’t know what spontaneous combustion is, its’ when you ignite seemingly out of nowhere. But with this and with all other elements you can also manipulate it with other basic types of magic, for example; spray flames out and trap them in a bubble. Then proceed to throw the ball at your desired target. When it comes in contact with the target or the ground the magic will shatter and spray the captured flames that were in this case, pressurized, all over the ground near the point of collision. For those of you who either have this element your personality are also affected. Since you have a fire burning inside you, you may have more ambition than most. Also you may have a very short temper. That’s all I can explain for fire let us move on to another of the four. Earth-Earth is a safer element. There are no real dangers besides causing a tectonic rift o freezing you in stone. I guess that sounds pretty bad? Well you’re right. A user of earth must be extremely disciplined Too much power and it could result in the creation of a new tectonic plate or even splitting the very world in half. Earth is a battlefield element. It has almost no uses outside of the warzone. The reason this is used primarily on the battlefield is because the fact that you can manipulate the very ground that the enemy is standing on; making it collapse, spikes fly up from it, or even just making a wall. Earth does require a lot of strength; both mental and physical, because of the fact that you must be able to push and to withstand the push back. Withstand the push back? Whenever an earth elementalist uses his or her element the world will literally push back at them as sort of recoil. This can cause severe tearing of tissue and breaking bones. Going back to the point of earth being the one that requires the most discipline out of the four; it has the most requirements. But strangely enough it is still the safest. The way it affects one personality is they may become very opinionated. Their mind will be harder to change than pushing a boulder uphill. Excuse the pun. Manipulation of this element is more the manipulation of the body. You can cast earth to coat your body and then freeze the earth. Then you can almost detonate and send shards of ice and rock at anything around them and become kind of like a living bomb. Air-Air can be one of the craziest of them all. It revolves mostly around lightning. They can conjure storms and direct the flow of lightning. The fact that they use lighting and can channel it through themselves can be their downfall. If the channel too much energy or too much energy at one time their heart could overcharge and stop. Also if they are in the water and they start to cast lightning, well let’s just say….. Water is a fantastic conductor. Air can also be used to direct storms elsewhere which can be helpful in everyday life. But on the battlefield they can be used to produce powerful tornados or fierce thunderstorms. It is very hard to talk to someone of air though; they are very talkative and jittery. But they sometimes can be the most unpredictable at times, Kind of like lightning in a thunderstorm….. I’m sorry. But in all seriousness they can be really spontaneous which can lead to really bad decisions and even cause severe injury. They can’t really manipulate their element but they can chain it. Since they can conjure storms they can cause the ground to become flooded and then they can electrocute the water causing anypony who happens to be standing on it to go into fatal cardiac arrest. Water-Water is possibly the element I find the most interesting. It can be used to completely obliterate a foe. But the reason for it being the strangest is the fact that it can heal allies or even revive the fallen. The reason for this is almost a mystery but I have some sort of theory for it. Since the water has magical qualities it will seeks out the wounds and literally removes it. I can’t explain how it does because it makes almost no logical sense to me. It just kind of makes the wound disappear. But take this quote to grave importance “Water can calm and sooth and water can rage and destroy.” This is the most accurate information you can receive while working with or against a water elemental user. Don’t take their lithe appearance and calm personality lightly. They can wipe you from existence in the blink of an eye. They can summon a tidal wave from their very core. But the most peculiar thing about a water elementalist is the eyes. When casting the eyes almost shimmer like waves. The wavier their eyes the more power they are using. Typically you will see water on the battlefield. They have excellent ways to help their comrades in battle. Although healing takes the most practice to learn. So most people take the more deadly art of the water, but the few that stray into calming waters are often the bravest. It takes beyond willpower to learn the art of healing because some say you can feel the wounds of the pony you are healing. Dangers of water are possibly the most brutal. If channeling too much energy at a given time and it can result in bone crushing force. Water can become unstable and thus becoming uncontrollable and with no one to control it….. It will come crushing down on the user; causing almost instant death. I have taught you all there is to know on the four elements. I hope you use this knowledge to your advantage either in learning your element, helping find the element of other, or even just spotting the element on the battlefield. “Silver waves?” A light blue filly with deep blue eyes and silverfish hair was torn from her book. She had been so absorbed in her reading that she hadn’t noticed her teacher had called on her. “Yes?” She responded with an innocent smile on her face. “Can you tell me what we just learned?” Her teacher replied with a stern look on her face. She wasn’t a mean teacher at all she just cared too much. She was rather young too, with bright eyes and a slender form. Silver Waves just stared at the bored. It was like reading a foreign language. After a few more moments the teacher sighed and dismissed the class for recess. “Except for you Silver.” She said as a certain filly tried to sneak out. Silver Waves dragged her hooves as she walked shamefully towards the mare. “Silver this the third time you haven’t been paying attention. What are you even doing back there?” She asked in more of a motherly tone. The filly looked up at her and mumbled something. “What was that?” “I said you wouldn’t know. It’s about elemental magic.” She said looking away. “Why on earth would you be reading about that? You can hardly even cast a levitation spell.” “Because of this,” Silver pulled out a necklace. On the necklace was a blue crystal about the same color of her eyes but was carved to look like a wave, “My mom gave it to me when I was five and told me that one day I would find out what it meant. I’m sure it has something to do with water.” “Look we’ll talk about it later, for now go outside with the rest of your class.” The older mare dismissed the filly. Silver Waves walked outside to the playground. She trotted over to a tree and sat under it with her book and began reading. A few minutes later three older colts walked up to her. “What are you doing here? This is our tree.” The first colt said. “What? You can’t just own a tree.” She responded. “What are you reading?” He grabbed the book from her against her complaint and started reading. “What? You actually believe you can do this? This is ridiculous how could a little brat like you even begin to do this?” “It’s true! This necklace says I can.” She defended. “Ha. Yeah right. You can’t do anything.” “Yeah I can. My mom said this necklace meant it.” “Well you mom is as crazy as you are.” He countered. “Don’t you dare call my mom crazy!” She was starting to scream and her eyes were beginning to water; But not with tears. “Oh look. She is gonna cast some magic. But with her eyes.” The three colts started laughing “No. No. No. NO!” Silver screamed. Water started to lap at her hooves. She opened her eyes to reveal them to be shimmering, but still no tears. The water that was lapping at her hooves rose up and launched outwards; pushing the colts away with it and hitting all the way to the playground. Everypony stared at her with horrified looks on her face. Silver turned around and started to cry; galloping towards home. Although there was one pony not horrified but more so impressed. He was the pony that every class had to have; quiet, shy, small. He had a dull grey coat resembling iron. His eyes were a deep brown color and his mane was long and black. He just kept staring at the spot that the little filly was with a small smile on his face. That is one strange filly. He thought to himself.
