Discovering What She Never Thought She Had

It was night time out in the woods and you were resting up in your cabin, watching TV. You moved into to woods and bought yourself the cabin so you could finally live in peace away from all of the bullshit that went on in the city. You never knew your father because he passed away from lung cancer when you were just a baby and your mom was the only family you had left before she died of breast cancer.

It was no surprise that you inheritd every penny as stated in her will. You used the money to finally move out of the city of greedy people and move in a nice quiet place. You had a nice flat screen set up in the living room, a well-stocked kitchen with food and cooking utensils and a beautiful view of the forest through your sliding door to admire every day.

Right now, as you were watching TV, you got a little thirsty and got up from your chair to go see what you had stashed away in the fridge. You opened it up and saw that you had a bunch of cans of soda, a gallon of milk and a carton of orange juice. You reached into the fridge a took out a can of pepsi and closed the fridge. You opened up the can and took a few big sips out of it.

You walked back to the living room and sat down on the couch. You kept watching TV with nothing else better to do, other then gaze at the dark woods through your sliding door. But at that moment, something told you that you were being watched by someone or something... from outside.

Feeling threatened, you got up out of your couch and grabbed your gun from the coffee table. You slowly approached the sliding door and put your hand on the switch on the wall. You flipped the switch and the light outside went on, exposing a wandering poacher with a knife. Right away, you slid the door open and pointed the gun at the poacher, making him run for the woods.

"HEY!" you shouted. Now, normally you don't chase after people just to prove that you're tough, but you chased after the poacher because he was running recklessly into the woods at night. You were fully well aware that the woods are very dangerous at night. You closed the sliding door behind you before chasing after the poacher with your gun still firmly in your hand.

You traveled deep into the woods, but the more you did, you couldn't even see 3 feet in front of you except for the pitched darkness around you. But you kept venturing deeper into the woods in order to make sure that poacher doesn't get caught by any predators that live in there.

"Hey! Where'd you go? You gotta get outta here, it's not safe!" you shouted.

But just then, you heard th sound of a male voice screaming. You couldn't tell from which direction, so you followed your instincts and ran straight ahead. But this somehow proved to be a big mistake because you soon found yourself suddenly losing your balance, falling into a deep pit. It felt like you were falling endlessly. But then you felt your head hit something and lose conciousness soon afterwards.

You woke up later with a pounding head. You placed your hand over your head, rubbing it lightly and you still felt a bit dizzy from the fall.

"Ugh, how the hell did I even survive that?" you ask yourself. You got up slowly and checked your surroundings and could tell you were in some kind of forest. You had to find a way out of there before you would end up as a midnight snack to any wandering predators. You wandered the forest, reaching out in front of you so you wouldn't bump too hard into any trees.

At this point, you were getting nowhere. Especially with all the twigs snapping. You felt like you were giving away your position as you progressed. Your vision soon gets caught by some kind of light in the distance and you walked towards it. What catches your eye was an opening in the forest with a lake and you had a clear view of the beautiful night sky.

"Wow, it's beautiful." you say. You walked towards the lake and sat near the edge. You knew you had to find a way back to your cabin, but something told you that this forest and everything around you made you feel far away from home. You let out a sigh of defeat and got up onto your feet.

Just then, you heard rustling in the bushes behind you and turned around. The sounds of the bushes rustling and a deep low growl was all you could hear. You moved to the side slowly, ready to dart out of there, but just as you were about to run, you tripped on a rock and fell down. Just then, the creature jumped out of the bushes, a creature known as a manticore and he had his sights set on you.

The manticore slowly advanced towards you, licking its fangs. You crawled backwards, never taking your eyes off the creature, for you thought you might end up getting killed if you looked away. And just as it pounced, you crossed your arms, guarding your face. You waited and waited for the manticore to lock its jaws on your flesh, but for a while, nothing happened at all.

Feeling curious, you seperated your cross-arm block and saw the manticore still floating in the air, being held in a strange green aura. You quirked an eyebrow at this. But then, your eyes locked on another creature behind the manticore, and it was like any other creature you saw. What you see was some kind of anthro insectoid type of creature with light blue long hair, insect wings that were probably 7 feet wide and had a bent horn. Her skin was black and she had green eyes with slid pupils and bared fangs. She wore a teal dress the went all the way down to where her feet should be, but she had hooves instead of human feet.

She slowly approached the manticore, turned it around and hissed at it in a hostile way. Then, strangely, with a swing of her arm, she sent the manticore soaring back into the forest. Everything was okay... for now, but then she approached you, licking her jaws like she was starving.

"W-W-Wait a second, what are you doing?!" you ask in a panic. She chuckled.

"Isn't it obvious? I'm going to feed." she replied. Her horn started to glow and she levitated you over to her using some kind of magic. You stared into the eyes of your killer with your heart pounding rapidly. Your breathing grew heavy and even though you were able to move your body, you were frozen with fear. You felt like this was the end and you closed your eyes very tightly.

But just then, you felt your body drop to the ground and you opened your eyes. She had gotten jumped by the manticore she sent flying earlier. The manticore had its paw on her face and the other on her arm so it'd be easier to for the beast to feed off her. But for some reason, you didn't want that to happen. You felt a bit of courage rushing through your whole body and you ran towards the manticore and surprisingly tackled the beast down to the ground. You locked you arms around the manticore's neck, which only made it mad.

The manticore roared and squirmed, trying to shake you off it. You grunted trying to keep your grip on the manticore as long as you possibly could. Eventually, the manticore proved to be far more stronger and flung you off its back, landing you flat on the ground. You got up quickly and charged at it without even thinking and you got tackled by the furocious beast. He roared into your face. Just as it was about to sink its jaws onto you, it gets lifted back up into the air, surrounded by a green, magical aura.

You turned to see that the insectoid woman had gotten up, glaring at the manticore. She brought the manticore face to face with her and threatened it.

"I don't ever want to see your face around here EVER again!" she hissed. The manticore... nodded nervously and then she used her magic to poof the manticore away before collapsing.

"CRAP!" you shouted. You rushed over to her to see if she was alright. Your eyes locked on a vicious claw mark on her left arm and she was oozing what looked like green blood. "Shit, that's not good. But at least it didn't cut right through the bone or that'd be a big problem."

You started to wonder where she lives, so without any further delay, you picked her up bridal style. She stirred a bit and opened her eyes. She locked her sights on you and hissed, but then gave a grunt of pain, gripping her left arm.

"Damnit!" she said.

"Don't move so fast, you'll make it worse." you replied.

"SILENCE!!! O-Ouch! This is the last time I ever fight off a manticore for a meal."

"Casting that aside, where's your house?"

"It's in the forest, I live by myself."

"Yourself? Look I mean no disrespect, but shouldn't an anthro insectoid creature like you be living with a bunch of other anthro insectoids?"

"For the record, you hairless ape, I'm a changeling queen!"

"Okay, a changeling queen, sorry. Now where's your house so I can take you there?"

"Just let me do it." she replied, making her horn glow again. Next thing you knew, you found yourself poofed in front of a black house with random holes in it and green lights emitting from each and every one of them, except for the one in front of you. "Now let me go and get out of here, you hairless ape, I don't need you caring me inside my own house like I'm your queen!"

"Hey, for the record, I'm a human. And second of all, the least you can do is show a little graditude after I risked my neck to stop that manticore from eating you."

"I did not ask for your help, human!"

"Too bad, you got help, now come on, we've gotta get your wound healed." You stepped inside the house and looked around the house to see where you can set her down. You noticed there was a tall chair in the middle of the room positioned a few feet away from th fireplace, which had green flames. You walked over to the chair and sat her down on and she sighed. "I'm gonna go get some warm water."

"What for?"

"Well, we gotta clean up that wound of yours, then we gotta bandage it up." you pointed to her left arm where the green blood had dried up a bit.

"Fine." she sighed, all annoyed. She then points to the right. "The kitchen is in there."

"Alright, thanks." you say before you walked over to the kitchen. You went inside and turned on the hot water in the sink and waited for it to warm up. You searched the cabinets for any cloths. You only found one and luckily it hasn't been used. You took it out and closed the cabinet door and looked to see the water was now emitting steam. You grabbed a bowl and put it in the sink waited for it to fill halfway.

While you were waiting, you placed your hands in your pockets. You felt something smooth and it felt like it was all rolled up so you took it out and saw that you had your bandage tape. You felt lucky that you had some to spare when you dropped into this strange world. You put it back into your pocket for later and turned off the water in the sink.

Afterwards, you took the bowl of hot water and the cloth with you back to the living room where the changeling queen was still sitting. Shortly after, you took the cloth in one hand and swished it around in the hot water before taking it out of the bowl to squeeze out the water. Your attention turned to the queen who was was attempting to lick her wound.

"Whoa there, that's not a good idea." you say. She hissed at you. You ignored the fear of her trying to feed off you and approached her with the wet cloth. "Just hold still." You then placed the wet cloth on her wound and she hissed out loud in a hostile tone.

"THAT HURT!" she shouted.

"Well if you hold still, it wouldn't hurt so much!" you argued back.

"Why exactly are you even helping me? You know I tried to feed off of you, yet here you are, sitting next to the same changeling queen who wanted to feed off you. Tell me... WHY?!"

"Because even though you tried to eat me, you saved my life from that manticore! And if I hadn't saved you we'd both end up as a midnight snack!"

At first, she was wanted to yell back, but she couldn't come up with the right words.

"Now hold still, this may sting a little." you say, placing the cloth back on her arm. She grunts in pain, trying to avoid eye contact with you. "I meant what I said earlier about saving my life. Thanks." your sincere words had made her look back at you with a confused look.

"Y-You're welcome, human." she says with hesitation.

"So, what's your name, anyways?" you ask.

"My name is... Queen Chrysalis." she replies. You tell her what your name is as you kept cleaning off the green blood from her wound gentley.

"By the way, what did you mean by "draining ever last ounce of love inside me?" Is that literally what changelings eat or was it something else?" you ask.

Chrysalis sighed. "A changeling's diet is very different compared to other creatures that exist here. If you're a changeling, the only thing that can satisfy your hunger is love. Love takes the form of this magical pink aura whenever we feed off it. But ever since that day when all of my subjects changed their forms and betrayed me, I lost control over them and now I'm forced to feed off creatures here in the Everfree Forest while having to keep my ass from getting eaten alive by predators!" she explains in frustration.

"What was the reason they betrayed you?" you asked.

"It was all the fault of that stupid Starlight Glimmer and her stupid friends! She ranted on about how changelings should give love instead of taking it! Now, the changelings are being lead by that one changeling who rebelled against me: Thorax!" she hissed angerly.

"Calm down. Look, I don't know exactly how it all went down, but holding a grudge over something that happened in the past isn't gonna help. I'm sorry your subjects left you and I know this might not make a difference, but I'll stay with you." you say.

Chrysalis just looked at you with a confused look. She had never been treated so kindly by anypony before, even when she was still in charge of the hive. But there was something about you that felt different, something that made her feel strange deep inside her. Chrysalis felt like something was beating in her chest and she placed her hand over her chest, confused.

"I suppose that would be alright." she replies. "But I don't have any guest rooms, so if you want, you can sleep near the fireplace or upstairs in my room. But not on my bed."

"Well, even though the fire is warm, I think I'll go upstairs."

"Fine."

Chrysalis got up off her chair and grabbed your hand, guiding you upstairs. At the very top of the stairs was a door, which she opened, revealing a huge bedroom. Her bed was a queen-sized bed with two pillows and a huge, fluffy blanket. Her nightstand had a little lamp emitting a green light. She walked towards her bed and got under the covers, trying to avoid eye contact with you.

You shrugged and walked over to where her bed was but didn't climb in. Instead, you took off your shirt, layed yourself down and covered yourself up with your shirt.

'I know she acts mean, but somehow I just know she's just confused. I feel like she deserves a second chance, and maybe have somebody there to look out for her.' you thought.

With Chrysalis, however, she had her back turned to you but she was still wide awake, wondering why she feels so weird all of a sudden.

'I don't understand! Anypony who's ever seen a changeling would easily run, scream and hide, or in some cases, try to fight me, but that human, he didn't do either of those! Perhaps, I haven't been looking at this whole "leadership" thing the right way. N-NO! That preposterous! I am a far superior leader than anypony and I will not allow not even one of them to think otherwise! But... the human's words, it's like they speak to me in so many ways that I never knew was possible and it makes me feel so... NO! He's nothing but a hairless ape! But, he might actually make a suitable king and I guess he's quite handsome. Wait, what did I-- GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!' she thought to herself, tossing and turning in bed.

The heavy feeling in her chest started becoming known to her more and more and she still felt confused about it and a little annoyed as well. She forced herself to try to go to sleep, which took a lot longer than she expected, but finally she ignored that heavy feeling inside her.
