Your New Loving Queen
The Dream That Told Her (Almost) Everything
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAs Chrysalis drifted off to sleep, she found herself in one of the most devastating dreams she never wanted to have, and that dream was when she flew away from her former hive. She was crossed with how her own army betrayed her, so she kept her eyes turned away from them. But when she was far enough away from them, she found herself crying in the Everfree Forest.
As she flew through the forest, she came across the opening where the lake was at. She landed near the lake and looked at her reflection in the water. She kept pondering about what went wrong and why all of her subjects had abandoned her over their new leader. All her life, she had done what her previous mother had taught her to rule a changling army when she first succeeded her first hunt.
Chrysalis felt a pain in her chest. She didn't know what it was, but it felt so bad that she felt like she wanted to burst into tears for her previous failed attempts to rule Equestria. Never had the former changeling queen felt so angry, so crossed, so alone... and so full of sadness. She dropped down to her knees and started crying softly in the palms of her hands.
"What have I done to deserve this, you ingrates?! I tried my hardest to fill your damn stomachs with love, but you all just went and stabbed me in the back! Don't expect me to show any mercy to any of you if you ever cross me ever again!!!" she shouted at the top of her lungs.
She buried her face in her hands again, crying her eyes out. But then, a beautiful bright glow shined beautifully above the former queen. She stopped crying and looked up in front of her and sure enough, you floated down and took a few steps towards Chrysalis. She scowled at you.
"What do you want, you disgusting hairless ape?" she asked, still scowling with tears in her eyes.
"Calm down Chrysalis." you said.
"What for?! I just lost my hive! I lost my title! I LOST MY SOLDIERS! WHAT GOOD WOULD A HAIRLESS APE LIKE YOU DO FOR ME ANYWAYS?!"
"First off, you need to relax, Chrysalis and let me explain." you replied calmly. You kneeled down to her level and place your hand over her shoulder. "I may not know much about being the leader of a hive, but I do know that sulking and yelling won't help solve your problems."
"Well then, what am I suppose to do?!"
"First, you need to learn to control your temper. It isn't right for a queen to hate and scorn and jeer at every little thing that goes on. Now I'm not saying that losing your throne was little, because I can understand, I'd be upset if I lost my throne the way you did."
"I just..." Chrysalis didn't know what to say next. She just felt her fist trembling until she loosened it up and planted both hands on the ground. Her hair drooped over her face. "I just wanted to show how much of a better ruler I am than those pathetic ponies of Equestria. And I just wanted to make sure my changling army would have enough love to feed off of."
"I understand, Chrysalis. But you must listen to me when I tell you this." You placed your hand under her chin and brought her up to face you with tear-filled eyes again. "Ruling a kingdom isn't about taking over someone else's land or causing pain and suffer to others. It's about helping your followers stand together, bringing peace and harmony to each other and being there for those in the direst of situations."
"B-But all I've ever done was try to help my changling stay full."
"Maybe there's the way for you to actually be filled with love without having to take it from others."
"There is no other way."
"You know that's not true Chrysalis. There is a way. You just have to look deep inside yourself and listen to what your heart tells you is right."
"M-My heart? But... changelings don't have hearts!"
"Come now, Chrysalis, if you didn't have a heart, then how come you can feel this?" you grabbed Chrysalis' hand and placed it over her left chest. She could feel something pounding inside her chest, yet she couldn't believe what she felt.
"W-What is this?"
"That's your heart, Chrysalis. It's been there all along. You just couldn't feel it up 'till now. Don't let your mind be clouded by your thoughts on revenge. Think about all of those around you before you lost your throne and how you could've made their lives easier. You already have all the power you need to help change your life for the better Queen Chrysalis. You just have to try."
"I... I..." Chrysalis tightened her eyes shut and then sighed. "Oh alright, but I just don't know how to give love without taking it, though."
"Don't worry. You'll know soon when the time is right." After you said that, you leaned in your whole body and gave Chrysalis a big hug. Her eyes widened and she started to blush. Her chest felt like it was beating fast and pretty soon, she lifted her arms and wrapped them around you.
"I promise I will try... somehow." Next thing that happened, everything around you and Chrysalis suddenly became white and blurry.
Chrysalis opened her eyes slowly and saw the light coming from outside her window. She turned to see that you were still sleeping soundly in the floor all covered up in your shirt.
She used her magic to teleport you onto her bed while she climbed out. You were still sound asleep, surprisingly when she had just teleported you onto her bed. She then leaned against the wall, waiting somewhat patiently for you to wake up.
About 5 minutes later, you began to stir and open up your eyes. You sat up and rubbed your eyes, yawning peacefully after a well deserved rest. You looked around and, to your shock, you weren't on the floor, but on Chrysalis' bed when you remembered how she told you that you couldn't sleep in it. You climbed out immediately and put your shirt back on.
"Finally awake, human?" she asked. You felt every last strand of hair was standing on end when you heard her voice from behind you. You slowly turned to see her unamused expression. "Guess it's nice to see that even the strangest of creatures had himself a good night sleep."
"Oh crap, Chrysalis, I-I'm sorry if I climbed into your bed! It wasn't my intention in the first place! If there's anything I can do to make it up to you, just tell me." you rant on.
"Oh just shut up already, you looked uncomfortable on the floor so I put you on my bed. I just felt... generous when I woke up this morning. But if you want, then I want you to find me something in the forest that tastes like love, I'm getting rather hungry right now." she replies.
"W-Wait a minute, you put me on your bed? Why the sudden change of heart?" Asking this made Chrysalis' cheeks turn pink, puff up a little and then she turns away with her arms crossed.
"D-Don't be ridiculous, it's not like I like you or anything." she says.
You almost felt like you wanted to laugh at her cute expression, but instead, you held it in and let out a sigh and walked towards the door. "If I find anything out there that tastes similar to love, I'll bring it back as soon as I can, okay, Chrysalis?"
"Fine, just make it quick." she says, shooing you away. You nod and walked out of her bedroom and closed the door before walking down the stairs. You approached the front entrance and walked out into the forest, searching for any kind of food she might like. You wandered the forest, searching high and low to see what kind of food might actually satisfy her.
Suddenly, you came across something that made you speechless. Hanging from a tree, you found what looked like cocoa bean pods. And judging by the looks of them, they were already fresh and ready for picking, so that's what you did. You picked a couple of cocoa bean pods from the trees and were about to walk back to the house, but then your stomach began to rumble.
It was apparent that you never had anything good to eat since you got there. But you had to hold off on hunting for your own food so you headed back to Chrysalis' house with the cocoa bean pods in your hands, hoping she might like them. It took you little effort to find her house this time and you went inside and towards the kitchen, setting the cocoa bean pods on the kitchen counter.
"You best hope you found something good enough for me to eat!" she said from behind. You tightened your eyes closed but opened them back up and looked behind you to see the impatient queen with the same unamused expression with her arms crossed.
"So do I." you reply. You then grabbed a knife and cut the pod open, exposing the cocoa beans. "I don't know if you're gonna like these, but I made sure to bring enough for you."
"And just what are those, exactly?"
"They're cocoa beans. I believe they're the main source from which chocolate is made."
"Hmm, interesting. Fine then, I'll try them."
Chrysalis walked up to the counter and you moved out of the way. She examined the cocoa beans and scooped a couple of them into her hand. She sniffed them before putting them in her mouth. As she chewed them up, her expression began to change slowly.
"Are they good?" you asked.
"I... I never knew cocoa beans could taste so much like love, if not better." she said, surprised.
"I'm glad you like it. I wasn't sure what love tasted like. But when I came across those cocoa beans, I figured love might actually be a sweet taste, so I got the beans."
"Well... you certainly did a good job of finding them."
Your expression grew surprised. You hadn't heard Chrysalis being so nice to you. But then you just smiled and nodded before you were going to walk out of the house. But just as you were about to leave, you felt something grab your shoulder. You turned to see Chrysalis with a more concerned look now.
"Is something wrong?" you ask.
"N-No, it's just... well, there's something that happened last night when I was sleeping that I wanted to tell you, and it's kind of been bothering me."
"Alright then. What's on your mind?"
"I... I can't say. At least, not out here. Let's go upstairs in my bedroom."
"You seem to be acting different than usual, Chrysalis."
"I'll explain when we go upstairs."
She then takes you by the hand and guides you up the stairs and opens the door, letting you in and closing the door behind her before walking towards her bed. She sat down and patted her hand on a spot for you sit down next to her. You shrugged and did as you were told.
"So, what is it you wanted to tell me?" you asked.
"Well... last night, I dreamt of the day when... I lost my throne. I felt like I was so utterly humiliated and I couldn't stop crying and yelling about my subjects betraying me. But that's when I saw you. You appeared out of nowhere in some kind of shining bright light. You told me that there was actually a way to give love and not have to take it from others and... you mentioned something about... "listening to what my heart tells me and whether it was the right or wrong choice to make." she explained.
"I said those things in your dream?"
"Yes. But then, before I woke up, we..... we hugged."
"Did we now?" you asked, blushing a bit.
"Y-Yes."
"You know... somehow that actually does sound like me. And somehow I believe you."
"Can I ask you something?"
"Sure, what is it, Chrysalis?"
"Why are you always so nice to me? Even when I act so sour with you?"
"Because, when I first saw you injured by that manticore last night, seeing you laying on the ground reminded me too much of my mother. She died some time ago from breast cancer. She was the only family I had and was the best mom I ever had. She loved me very much. We spent most of our lives playing in the park, baking lots of treats and even helped donate to people less fortunate than us." you explained, a bit down.
"But what about your father?"
"I never got to know my dad. He died when I was only just a baby. But somehow, even though he wasn't there with me physically, I knew I felt his presence. It was like he was watching over me. But now that I have no parents, I had to move away from the city and into the woods."
"But why?"
"Sometimes, the town or city you grew up in leaves so many painful memories that you just want to get away from it all so you can start a new life. I felt like if I stayed longer, I would just end up breaking my own heart and I couldn't live with that."
Listening to your speech about your parents made Chrysalis a bit guilty. She thought she was the one who had it rough, but hearing your story made her think about what she might do to make you feel better. She didn't realize that her hand was placed over her beating chest. But somehow, she finally understood what it was that was beating inside her this whole time.
Without saying anything, she wrapped her arms around you, making you blush.
"C-Chrysalis wha-?"
"Shhhhh, don't say anything. Just let me hug you for a while. You've been through a lot."
At this moment, you could feel yourself getting choked up. Your face began to grow a little wet and you buried your face into her shoulders, quietly sobbing. You wrapped your arms around Chrysalis softly while she rocked you left and right. The more she hugged you, the more the beating in her chest grew faster. And she knew what it was that made her feel so relieved and so satisfied.
For the first time in her life, she finally discovered that she actually had a heart. But it wasn't just any heart, it was a heart of pure gold.
