A Son's Concern
The very next day, on a bright, sunny morning at 8 A.M, Blazing Waters awoke to the sound of his phone alarm going off and turned it off. He yawned and sat up, stretching his upper and lower body to loosen up the joints in his limbs. Next thing he did was dial his mom's phone number. He waited patiently for her to pick up, but then got concerned when she didn't pick up on the 2nd ring. She usually picks up on the 1st or 2nd ring unless it was lost in her purse or if her battery was dead. But if it was dead, it'd automatically send him to voicemail, so why wasn't she able to pick up?
"Strange, why didn't she answer?" Blazing asked himself. Soon, on the 5th ring, it sent him to her voicemail, so he left her a message just in case. "Hey mom, it's me. I called you just now and I wanted to know if you were okay with me and Rainbow Dash visiting you today. Call me when you get this message, bye."
After he finished, he hung up and jumped out of bed. "Well, there is a chance she might have had too much to drink last night and she's oversleeping. I guess I'll call back in an hour or two," he said. Blazing went over to his closet and changed into a nice pair of clothes. Afterwards, he left his room and went straight for the bathroom to take care of his personal hygiene and a shower. Still, he help himself but worry about his mom.
Speaking of which, Aqua Stream was actually at her house... in the shower. She accidentally left her phone in her bedroom because of how sidetracked she had gotten, thinking about Flash Magnus.
Even if she wanted to try and get him out, it wouldn't matter. To her, Flash Magnus was unlike any other guy who tried to get with her. All her life, she's had to spend her years raising her son as a single mother. She's never had the luxury of having a man want her for her since the day she met her boyfriend. But back then, she was naive and reckless with who she got with. Now that she's matured, she's careful with who she sees and she knows Flash is not like the other guys.
"It feels so wonderful. I wonder if Flash's feelings for me are... real. It's only been two day, yet he's been so kind to me and not once asked if we could sleep together. On top of that, he's quite handsome," Aqua then chuckled to herself from the stuff she said.
"Listen to yourself, Aqua, you're sounding like an excited school girl who's getting her first boyfriend. Though, I don't see how it'd be bad to have him as one. Still, I wonder if Blazing'll accept the fact that I'm finally seeing someone who's special to me," she said. "Well, let's hope for the best." After she got done washing herself, she turned off the water and got out of the shower to dry off.
Afterwards, she left the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her body and a smaller towel wrapped around her hair and headed straight for her bedroom.
She walked up to her phone, which sat on top of her drawer straight across from her bed. She was about to see if she got any texts from Flash, but then forgot that her battery was dead. She brushed it off as a minor mistake and left it to charge on her nightstand. Then, Aqua proceeded to get herself dressed for today. She had invited Flash over for dinner she had to make sure she was prepared.
After getting dressed in her normal clothes, she left her room and walked out into the kitchen and checked the fridge and the freezer. "Damn it! I forgot to get the steak!" she scolded herself.
She closed the fridge back up and waited a little bit for her phone to at least charge up to half battery and to pass the time, Aqua Stream went into the living room to watch the news. She wasn't worried about her phone being dead, it was not having her ingredients ready for her date tonight. After that walk yesterday, Aqua and Flash had been texting nonstop up until midnight.
After about an hour of watching the news, Aqua headed back into her room and grabbed her phone, purse and car keys before finally leaving out the front door.
The time now was 7 PM and Flash had arrived at Aqua's house right on schedule. Flash Magnus and Aqua Stream sat at the dinner table with all glasses of wine and each of their plates had a large steak with some pasta and broccoli with some sliced carrots. Flash was enjoying the meal Aqua prepared for the two of them. Aqua was pleased to know that Flash appreciated her cooking and was even more happy to strike up another friendly conversation, talking about pretty much anything they haven't told each other.
"Oh, there was this one time back at boot camp when one of the guys actually catapulted his orange, then accidentally made it land on our drill instructor's tray, getting that slop all over his uniform and face. It was priceless, I couldn't stop laughing a week after that!" Flash laughed.
"He must've been pretty mad after that. I'd be too," Aqua giggled.
"No kidding. He made that guy run laps around the entire camp until it was time for bed. The poor sucker couldn't stand up right for days," Flash said.
"Well, let me tell you something, Flash. I wasn't always this perfect little angel back in school. Back then, when I was still a sophomore in high school, there was this one chick who pissed me off because she was always breaking other boys' hearts. The second I saw her, I knew I had to show her who's boss. Of course, my mom didn't like the idea of me having to pick a fight with anyone. But that wasn't gonna stop me from putting this bitch in her place and do you know what I did?"
"No, what?" Flash asked.
"I took pictures of her making out with multiple men and gave those pictures to the newspaper club. That bitch was so ashamed of herself, she transferred to a new school in order to avoid yet another public humiliation and turned over a brand new leaf within a week," Aqua said.
"Damn, when you deliver cold-hard justice, you really deliver cold-hard justice," Flash praised.
"I can also be a bit of a prankster. Like this one time, when my son was about to turn 7, I asked him if there was anything he wanted for his birthday. What he told me was so cute, I just had to let him have it," Aqua tried her best to hold in her laugh.
"What? What'd he want?" Flash asked.
"He wanted a cake in the face," Aqua said before laughing out loud. "I... I even recorded the whole thing when he made his wish on his birthday. It was so funny. we couldn't stop laughing for 20 whole minutes. Blazing ate every single bit of the cake that got on his face, you should've seen it."
"Oh wow, what a birthday bash. I bet he'll remember that for a long time," Flash Magnus chuckled. "Speaking of which, what do you and your son usually do regularly?"
"Hmm, he usually gives me a call during the weekends to ask for a visit. Speaking of which, I think he might've called me at some time, but I never got the chance to get back at him. I'll check to see if he has," Aqua said, reaching into her purse and pulling out her phone. She took out her phone, noticing it was turned off the whole time and the moment she turned it back on, she gasped. On her phone, it said she had 13 missed calls from her son and felt a little guilty for making him worry about her.
"What's wrong, Aqua?" Flash asked.
"I think I might have given my son a scare. Hang on, I'll just be a minute," Aqua said. She strolled through each of the calls she missed, listening to each voicemail. All of them were nearly the same as the first few ones and Aqua felt a little silly for not returning his calls.
"Mom, it's me again. If you're not available for another visit, that's fine. I can always try next week. Just let me know what's going on. I'm worried about you, you know. Take care. I love you, bye," Blazing said in the very last voicemail, which made Aqua sigh.
"Oops, I guess I made Blazing Waters worry about me. The least I can do is give him a call back," Aqua redialed her son's number and waited for him to pick up. On the third ring, she heard him pick up and say "hello." "Blazing, honey, I'm so sorry for not picking up. I should've returned your calls earlier, but I had my cell phone off, I'm really sorry, sweetie, please don't be mad at me." she put on a guilty smile.
"Relax mom, no need to beat yourself up. I should be scolding myself for not visiting you these past few weeks, but no use in paying a visit this week. You're probably busy," Blazing said over the phone.
"I'm sorry for forgetting, sweetie. Would it be alright if we get together next Saturday? I have something that I want to show you that's given me a more... positive view on life. And as a bonus, we'll all go out to eat for breakfast and it'll be my treat," Aqua said.
"You sure, mom? You don't gotta go through all that trouble just to make up for one blunder."
"I insist. There's no sense in talking me out of this. It's the least I can do for not getting back to you. Besides, we'll get to spend time with each other, so it's a win-win scenario. Tell your sweetheart she's welcome to join me if she's not too busy. I'll pick you up on Saturday at 9 A.M. Think you can be ready by then?"
"Umm... okay, mom. If you're okay with this, I'll go along with it," Blazing said.
"Great. I'll see you then, honey. Have a good night," Aqua said. Blazing said his good-bye then both of them hung up almost simultaneously afterwards. Aqua then resumed eating dinner with Flash, sighing. "I guess I really screwed up this time."
"We all make mistakes, Aqua, no need to beat yourself up. Trust me, I've been there," Flash said.
"Yeah, I guess you're right. Now that just begs the question remaining: Are you free Saturday? I hope it's not too late to show you to my son," Aqua said.
"Sure, I haven't planned anything next Saturday. A nice breakfast sounds scrumptous," Flash agreed.
"Wonderful. Now then, how about we finish up our current meal and enjoy each other's company? The night is still young and I'm sure you don't want to go home on half a full stomach," Aqua said. Flash merely nodded and the two continued to eat the delicious dinner and continued chatting.
Meanwhile, at Rainbow's house she was playing GTA Online, going on a heist with a couple of her friends. "Grr... damn it, I'm cornered over here!" Rainbow said into her mic.
"I'm doing everything I can, Rainbow, this isn't exactly the easiest heist setup in the game! Just try and hang on for a little while longer and I-- FUCK!!! These fucking bastards capped me!" Sunset shouted from inside Rainbow's mic, getting more frustrated than before. "Damn it, what more does this fucking game want?!"
"Now, don't go blowing your top off, Sunset. This here's just a game," Applejack said in Dashie's mic.
"Yeah, I mean this game isn't half-bad. There are a few gaming errors that could've been improved, but overall, it's a pretty entertaining game," Twilight added inside the mic. As Rainbow and the other were having their little dispute, Rainbow's cell phone started ringing.
"Oop, hang on, girls. I'm gettin' a call," Rainbow said. She took off her mic and reached over to her phone, which she placed on her pillow.
Rainbow pressed the answer call button and then put it up to ear. "Yo, go for Rainbow," she said.
"Dashie, it's me," Blazing said on the other line.
"Hey, babe. What's up? I haven't heard from you in a while. Did you finally get a hold of your mom? I take it she's too busy for a visit right now," Rainbow guessed.
"Yup. But she's invited us for breakfast next Saturday. She'll come and get us at 9 A.M. You want in?"
"Breakfast... at 9 A.M? I don't see why not. I ain't got any big plans. Just let me know ahead of time and I'll head on over to your house as soon as possible," Rainbow replied.
"You got it. See ya then," Blazing said.
"Catch ya on the flip side, babe," Rainbow said before hanging up and putting her mic back on. "Sorry about that, girls, looks like I got some breakfast plans this Saturday with my boyfriend's mom.
"Doggone lucky bitch," Applejack said with envy. Rainbow knew she was still having her mood swings.
"Easy there, Applejack. You don't want to make your water break too early. Remember your breathing exercises and always remember to stay calm. As for you, Rainbow Dash, have a good time with Blazing. Tell him and his mother we all said "hi," Twilight said.
"Can do. Now let's open up a serious can of whup-ass!" Rainbow said. The other girls cheered on from their other ends of the game and restarted.
'Hmm, all this time and she's inviting me to her son to breakfast. This is a first. It's about time we finally had ourselves a little get-together. But still, what's the occasion?' Rainbow thought to herself.
