I'll Show them All
Spike goes out
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe next day after Twilight's return from Camp, Spike had spent the morning in his room reading comics. Since it was a Saturday the students who attended camp still had the weekend to unwind after coming home. Not that it mattered to Spike of course since every day felt like a weekend to him. Finally deciding to get out of the house and get some air, he grabbed his hoodie and hoverboard before leaving his room.
As he was heading for the door, Twilight caught him, “Spike, where are you going?”
Spike stopped before scowling and looked back at her, “I don't have to answer you.”
“Spike!” Twilight tried to stop him, but he already went out the door. Knowing better than to add fuel to that furnace given how he was last night because of her decided to leave him be for now.
Out in the city, Spike was riding his hoverboard around. One of the only few talents he had was how skilled he was with riding a hoverboard, but unfortunately it still wasn't much compared to others talents. As he rode around he found several earthers using their super strength to carry heavy loads from one place to another with ease. Above him were flyers flying from one place to another. Finally Spike would see mages using their magic to levitate stuff around setting them in one place or another making things easier for them.
Spike frowned, and thought, 'It's so easy for them.' but brushing it off he continued to ride around looking for something to do.
The boy eventually made his way to one of his fave fast food establishments Surfer Burger. Spike sat outside the place at a table under an umbrella enjoying his double cheeseburger, fries, and drink. As he took a bite of his burger he looked at it before sighing.
“This is one of the few things I can enjoy outside the house without anybody getting on my case.” he took another bite before eating some of his fries.
“Spike?” came a voice belonging to a woman.
Spike looked up and saw two adult women approach him. He recognized them as Principal Celestia and Vice Principal Luna, the two celestial sisters who run Canterlot High, the school Twilight and the girls attend. The two each had a tray with an ordered meal of their own.
“Ms. Celestia and Ms. Luna.” Spike greeted.
“Well, this is a treat.” Luna admitted.
“I didn't expect to find the two celestial sisters at a place like this.” Spike quipped.
“We may be two of the few celestials in the world.” Luna began.
“But that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the simpler things in life.” Celestia finished, as the two sat down at the table across from Spike.
“Point,” Spike admitted, as they decided to eat together, “So, how was camp?”
“It was very nice revisiting the campgrounds where we attended as students ourselves.” Celestia answered in nostalgia.
“And the students enjoyed it themselves.” Luna added.
“Lucky them.” Spike answered, but the two adults could sense the bitterness in his tone.
“Spike, is there a reason why you were not present at camp?” Celestia inquired while narrowing her eyes.
“Actually, yes,” Spike answered ready to tell them, “Because I was not informed there was an offer to me.”
“Not informed?” Luna asked in confusion, as Celestia continued.
“But I told Twilight-” Spike cut her off.
“Yeah, you told her. But she automatically forgot and didn't remember until after she got home!”
Celestia was in shock and surprised that her top student who had always made sure to follow her orders and instructions for whatever purpose or project she assigned her in the past would suddenly forget something that involved her own sibling.
“Spike, I am so sorry you were not informed and left out on the camping trip.” Celestia apologized.
“You don't have to apologize,” Spike began, “It's not your fault you chose the wrong person to deliver a personal message to me.”
“Even so, Twilight should've known better than to forget to ask you when she's always remembered so much more than a simple message.” Celestia insisted.
“Yeah, well I guess a message to me isn't as important as all her studies and reports to you.” Spike answered bitterly.
Celestia and Luna knew this has greatly left Spike bitter against Twilight, as Luna tried to apologize, “Spike, if there is any way my sister and I can make it up to you.”
Spike looked at them, “I don't need pity. Because all that does is give everyone around me another excuse to patronize me.”
“Spike, we do not wish to make you feel inferior. We may be celestials, but we care about all our people.” Celestia spoke up.
“And that includes you.” Luna assured him.
Spike feeling somewhat moved that they consider him one of their people, but his negative feelings still kept him from seeing it completely, “I don't feel like one of your people. Because your people have special abilities. And I got none of those.”
“A lack of ability like everyone else does not make you less than that.” Celestia told him.
“I want to believe that, Ms. Celestia, really I do. But sadly barely anybody makes me feel the same,” Spike finished his meal and tossed the wrappers in the receptacle close to him, “I got to go.”
Spike turned and was prepared to mount his hoverboard until he was restrained on both sides by the two women, “Hey! What're you doing?”
“We can't let you leave this way, Spike.” Luna replied.
“Like what?”
“With all this pent up hate and bitterness.” Celestia answered.
“I can deal with it on my own.” Spike replied, as he tried to get free but to no avail.
“Nobody says you have to do it on your own.” Luna assured him.
Spike stopped struggling realizing it was pointless. He dropped his head and couldn't help but sob. The two adults hugged Spike on both sides comfortingly.
“I just wanted to be involved and included,” Spike sobbed, “Is that so wrong?”
“It's never wrong to want to be wanted.” Celestia assured him in a motherly tone.
“And I've felt that way before.” Luna assured him.
“How?” Spike challenged her.
“Despite both of us being celestials, I also felt I was living in the shadow of my older sister. Many always seemed to prefer her over me because she was the oldest and more popular,” the younger sister explained, “Because of that I had grown bitter and eventually became a recluse feeling if nobody needed me then I didn't need them.”
Celestia carried on, “I tried so many times to reach out for her, but she always ignored it. Until one day I wouldn't back down and she finally unleashed her deep emotions on how she felt about me and always feeling like she'd never amount to anything. I comforted her assuring her she didn't have to be like me and not let what others say about me affect her. It took awhile but she finally came around and opened up to me and everyone else. I had my sister back.”
“So you see, Spike. I know what you're going through.” Luna assured him giving Spike a new perspective.
“We're not asking you to forgive Twilight or anyone, only to understand that you're not as alone as you think.” Celestia comforted him.
Spike sighed, “I get it. But it doesn't change the fact compared to everyone else I can't do shit. Thanks anyways, but I gotta go.”
Spike walked away before mounting his hoverboard and left. The two sisters watched Spike take off feeling bad for him. They knew there was nothing they could do to change him, but Celestia knew there was something she could do.
Spike returned home and went inside. Before he could get to his room, Twilight called out, “Spike!”
The boy groaned, before looking over seeing Twilight who looked miffed, “What?”
“Did you see Principal Celestia or Vice Principal Luna today?”
“What's it to you?”
“Just answer me. Did you?" She continued to question him.
“Yeah, I met them at Surfer Burger. So what?”
“Principal Celestia sent me a message about wanting to meet with me. What did you tell them?”
“I told them the truth.” he confessed.
“Spike!” Twilight gasped.
“What was I supposed to do?” Spike challenged Twilight, “Lie to them? Tell them I really wasn't interested? Not a chance.”
“But who knows what Principal Celestia will say or do?” Twilight panicked.
“Oh, give me a break!” Spike shouted, “The most she'll do is reprimand you. You have got to stop acting like the smallest mistake will get you expelled or worse. And you say I overreact? That's your thing.”
Twilight sighed knowing Spike was right. So many times in the past she overreacted over the most minor of things and convince herself that she would get in serious trouble. Whether it was Spike or even her own friends calling her out on her 'Twilighting' she always seems to keep up that bad habit. Even just now.
Spike was turning to go back to his room, until Twilight stopped him again, “Spike, wait!” Spike sighed again as he stopped in place, “I know you have no reason to believe me, but I want you to know I truly am sorry for all this,” Spike said nothing as he kept his back, “And I have every intention to make it up to you, somehow.”
“I'll believe that when I see it. Goodnight.” Spike went into his room leaving Twilight to herself.
As Spike relaxed in his room he thought about what Twilight told him along with what Celestia and Luna told him about their sibling relationship.
“We'll see if Twilight and I are as lucky as they are.” he told himself.
