After the victorious battle against King Sombra, everything seemed peaceful once again in the Crystal Empire. Crystal ponies were rejoicing, Princess Cadance and Shining Armor were now the princess and prince of the Crystal Empire, and the main six vanquished another antagonist from Equestria, until now. King Sombra has came back from the Artic North, and wants revenge. He has plotted a new plan by breaking apart the Crystal Heart and put all of the pieces in the deepest parts of Equestria where no pony kind has ever dared to explore.
