I have never been afraid of the dark. Not in my entire life, but now I am.
After the accident that took out half my family.
I am one of the few left.
It might not be much to you, but in my family I am now the only night pony, the only one who more enjoys the dark then the light. My mother was one too, but she passed in the accident and now I have no one left to relate to.
It is not fair and now I stay in the withered home I have lived all my life while the others move away, closer to town.
I watch from the window as their forms retreat into the forest and heave a sigh that comes from my mind as much as from my body.
With all the lights off, I go around and make the cottage like structure glimmer with stars, making it look like the night sky, even as sunlight slants in through an open window. Seeing the night I wish with all my might that I could just vanish in it, become one with it.
Life would be so much easier that way.
As I am thinking is when a bell sounds, making me turn to face the doorway.
Standing there is a pony, with light hair, a golden main and tail and eyes that seem to see into my soul. Her cutiemark is glaringly obvious as a patch of cloudless blue sky, with the sun shinning down, turning trees and grass into a golden crisp.
I glance back at my cutiemark, the opposite of hers, the sky black and stormy, grass dead and brown and the trees naked and twisted.
I made myself turn my attention back to the stranger. "Who are you?" I asked, lifting my head high.
"I am Glowrunner. I have been traveling for some time and I thought this place might be an inn." Glowrunner replied. Her voice was smooth and made me feel light and sway-like.
I cleared my throat. "No, it's not an inn. But you can stay the night if you would like. My family doesn't really like it here, so far from town, so they left. Now there is plenty of room."
Glowrunner smiled at her, which made my room of night turn to one of a white sunny day. "That would be wonderful."
In response I couldn't help but smile back at her.
