2 The first Sight.
It's late, in fact it's so late it's early. The clock in the room reads well past one in the morning. So, what is it that makes this single night any different from any other one that she has lived through? What strange occurrence occurs that makes it stand out? That changes her life forever? That changes the course of the world.
The night was cold, despite this, the home's space heater wasn't on. Neither was the heat turned up. Outside, rain pattered against the home's roof. Had someone been standing outside, the light drizzle would have misted in their hair. The streets were slick from the downpour, while brown and dying leaves lay caught in the run-off on the sides of the road. This far north, trees lost their leaves much earlier in the season.
The first sign that should have registered as danger to the princess was the lone street light on the road. Its shine brightened and intensified in its nightly purpose, until it burst and was replaced by sparks showering onto the asphalt below. It didn't catch the young alicorn's attention though, her eyes were skyward. Over the dim of the storm and among the flashes of lightning, the solitary light's life faded away, unseen.
Suddenly, the air crackled and rippled tenfold. A massive fork of lightning cascaded in the distance towards the ground, stabbing at the Earth as though it held a grudge. Her eyes widened disbelievingly at it, and a smile carved its way onto her expression. It had been so close, and she'd never seen its like before. The noise which traveled past her immediately after was deafening. She whooped in the wind, cheering, but the outcry was lost to the roaring atmosphere.
What stood in her path as she went to go back to her room was something... unexpected.
With the only light of the single candle from the room, the newest princess stares shocked at the creature in front of her. The creature in front of her moved quickly, weaving in and out of the princesses sight, intriguing the alicorn. "What are you?" The sentence went on but that was the only thing that could be heard as the force of the rain increased. The mysterious creature was no longer there, or was she?
"Twilight Sparkle..." A voice whispered from the shadows. "Do not forget my name... I will be back, and be prepared..." As the voice and the creature faded away it whispered, "Midnight Estelle..."
The bewildered and astonished princess rushed from the balcony of the roof to inside of her tree home then yelled out, "Spike! I need you to take a note to the Princess."
"What? Twilight, its 2 in the morning... Why'd you have to wake me up?" The tiny dragon spoke as he rubbed his eyes.
"Something has happened! Take a note Spike!" The dragon picked up a scroll and a quill. "Dear Princess, I understand the lateness of the hour. Something has happened. Please Princess... If you know anything about a creature named Midnight Estelle. She came to me tonight... There is something wrong, very wrong. As I got a small glimpse at her, I realized she was an alicorn... Spike send that, now."
The only sound that could be heard for the next two hours was the sound of hooves clopping along the wood floor of the library. "Twilight! A letter." She picked it up in her magic and opened it.
Dear Twilight,
I am sorry to inform you but there is no records of any pony, let alone an alicorn, with that name. Twilight, don't worry. You may of been seeing things. "I wasn't seeing things!" Come to Canterlot immediately if you think that this is important.
-Celestia
"Spike. We're going to canterlot." Those were the only words that were heard to the dragon before he got lifted up and placed on her back, almost immediately falling asleep. "I hope she was right..." Then in a bright purple flash, she saw the alicorn again, but it was too late as she teleported herself into canterlot.
"Hey, Twily! What brings you here this early in the morning?" Shining Armor said as he watches as his sister walked through the halls of the castle on her way to Celestia's chambers.
"I'm here to see Celestia. It is important. We can catch up later, BBBFF. This can not wait." The princess rushed her way through the halls of the castle to Princess Celestia's chamber. After a moment of thought, she barged in the room. "Twilight! Don't you know to knock?"
"This is important." Her voice raised in loudness, almost reaching the royal canterlot voice. "Celestia. Look through my memories. She is there, I know it. I was not imagining things when I saw her." The Princess walked closer to the younger one and pressed her horn to her forehead, looking though her memories to see the most recent ones.
By the time she pulled away, Twilight had almost fainted. "Twilight... I have never seen any pony like that before." She spoke as if she was scared in a way. "We must be prepared for whatever that alicorn has planned for us."
