“Okay, Dashie! Welcome to your new room!” Pinkie skipped along as she pushed Rainbow Dash’s wheelchair to one of the back rooms of Sugarcube Corner. The first thing Rainbow Dash noticed was the bright pink paint that had been used on the room. Then, she slowly saw some other things, like the blast marks in the ceiling, the confetti ground into the wall, and the layer of crystalized sugar covering everything. This room was obviously a victim of some of Pinkie Pie’s most extreme parties, among other things.

“Pinkie?” she asked tentatively. “What exactly happened in this room?”

“Well,” answered the pink party pony, “A lot of things, but the most memorable one is that this is the room where I developed my patented party cannon! The first few models tended not to work well, they just exploded. You might have gathered that by the char on the ceiling. Oh, and I made my first exploding cake in here! That’s why there’s sugar everywhere!”

Rainbow Dash was beginning to regret agreeing to stay here. “It would have been much safer in the hospital.” she thought. “Wait! What am I thinking? I’m Rainbow Dash! I’ve never cared about safe! This accident is already changing me!”

“Okay, Dash!” Pinkie Pie’s voice interrupted Rainbow’s thoughts. “What do you want to do first? Oh, wait… there’s not much you can do…” She plopped down onto the floor. “This isn’t going to be nearly as fun as I thought.”

“Pinkie, I'm really tired. These painkillers are seriously taking it out of me.” Rainbow Dash let out a massive yawn. “I think I’m just gonna take a nap for now. Maybe we can do something when I wake up, though.”

“Okay then.” said Pinkie. “I’ll just go make some cupcakes for when you wake up.” With that, she walked out of the room to her kitchen. Rainbow Dash’s eyes drooped lower and lower, until finally she fell into the fathomless depths of sleep. The dreams came, and they weren’t pretty.

Rainbow dreamed of falling. Falling through endless darkness. She saw faces floating around her. Pinkie Pie, the doctor that treated her, a pair of nurses, and a singing cupcake. She wasn’t really sure where that one came from.

“Raaaiiinboooowwwww! Raiiiinnbooooowwwww Daaassshhhhh! Wake up! C’mon, Dashie!”

Rainbow Dash opened her eyes to see Pinkie Pie’s face just millimeters away from her own. She jerked back in surprise, almost tipping over her wheelchair in the process.

“Are you okay, Rainbow Dash?” Pinkie Pie looked very concerned. “You were tossing and turning and saying something about cupcakes. Do you want to eat the cupcakes I baked for you?”

“Ummm, I guess.” Anything to take her mind off that dream she just woke up from. “Bring on the cakes of cups!”

“Okie dokie lokie!” said Pinkie cheerfully. She brought out a small tray with four cupcakes on it. She pulled off one for herself and one for Rainbow Dash. After taking a large bit out of her own, Pinkie reached over and gave the other treat to Rainbow.

“Oh wait, you can’t hold it cuz your arms are still in casts. I guess I’ll have to feed it to you.” She held the cupcake close to Rainbow’s mouth. Rainbow Dash chomped down and took a massive bite.

“Wow, this great!” she said, finishing it off. “Give me another on-“ Suddenly her eyes widened. “EEYYAAHHHH!!! WATER! GET ME WATER!”

“Okay!” Pinkie ran into the kitchen. A few seconds later, she walked calmly back out and handed Dash a glass of ice cold, clear water. “Sorry about that.” she said apologetically. “I just got so bored while you were napping, so I decided to sprinkle a bit of Dragonbreath pepper on one of the cupcakes.” Rainbow Dash glared at Pinkie for a second, and then smiled slyly.

“You know, Pinkie, that just reminded me of a great secret I know.” She knew Pinkie Pie would never be able to resist a secret. “Ooooooohh! Tell me!” A look of excitement crossed Pinkie’s face.

“Okay, lean down here so I can whisper it. Closer… closer…” When Pinkie’s face was right next to hers, Rainbow spit a full mouthful of water directly into Pinkie’s face. Pinkie looked shocked, and then grinned sheepishly.

“I guess I deserved that.” she said. “Let’s call it a truce for now. When you get out of your wheelchair, we’ll finish this!”

“Agreed.”

“Good. I'm glad we’ve got that sorted. Now, what do you want to do?”

Rainbow Dash thought for a minute. “Hmmm. I guess I’d like to read the newest Daring Do story. But I can’t, because I won’t be able to hold it…”

“That’s okay!” said Pinkie. “I can just read it out loud to you!” She plopped down on Rainbow Dash’s lap. “Is this it?” There was a stack of books beside Rainbow’s wheelchair. On top of it was a thick volume of Daring Do. “Okay.” said Pinkie. “Daring Do and the Storm of Demons. Ooooooh, sounds exciting!”

She began to read the story, but Rainbow Dash barely heard it. Pinkie’s weight on top of her lap was too distracting. It seemed like her legs where tingling and the feeling was spreading to a warm spot in her chest. “What the hay? Am I getting sick? Or maybe Pinkie is damaging my legs.” As she continued to think about it, her eyes drooped lower and lower. Suddenly, her head hit the metal post of the wheelchair and she jerked up in pain. Pinkie stopped reading. “Are you okay, Dash?”

“Um, Ye- yeah. I’m good. Sorry.”

“That’s okay. If you’re tired, I understand.” She looked out of the window. The shadows were growing longer and it was already becoming hard to see. “It’s getting time for bed anyways. I think we should both turn in for the night.”

“Okay.” agreed Rainbow Dash, still slightly confused about the odd feeling in her chest. “Can you lift me onto the bed by yourself? I’m pretty heavy.”

“Don’t worry.” said Pinkie. “I’m strong enough!” With that, she lifted Rainbow Dash straight out of the wheelchair and dropped her onto the bed.

“Wow, Pinkie! How in all of Equestria did you get to be that strong!?”

“I lift bags of flour and sugar through here all day every day. I’ve put on a little of muscle.” She flexed her front leg, showing a pretty impressive bicep. Rainbow Dash found herself staring and quickly turned her head. ”Why am I suddenly feeling so weird about Pinkie?”

“That’s pretty cool, Pinkie.” She inhaled sharply as her mouth stretched wide in a massive yawn. “Wow, I’m really tired. I’m going to go to sleep now. G’night!”

“Gooooodnight, Dashie!” Pinkie Pie jumped into the bed beside Rainbow’s and snuggled into the sheets. Rainbow Dash sighed quietly. She would ponder her emotions more in morning. For now, she was going to sleep. Hopefully she wouldn’t have any more nightmares about falling again. Slowly, she slipped into a deep sleep, and there was silence.
