The new virus known by the name of “Pony Flu” had made a massive outbreak, all through Equestria.
The first pony to become infected was none other than the dim-witted mail mare of Ponyville; Derpy Hooves.
She awoke one morning, feeling unusually sick, and sluggishly rolled out of bed.
“Ughh, I feel terrible...” Derpy groaned.
She dragged herself to the bathroom where she examined herself in the mirror.
She was shocked at the reflection staring back at her.
“Oh my... is that...me?”
Her face was a sickly green color, her eyes -usually googly- were straight and bloodshot, pupils dialated.
“What’s wrong with me?” She flapped her wings nervously.
Derpy decided it would be best to visit Nurse Redheart before anything get’s worse.
She stumbled into the doorway, vomit dripping from her mouth. “Somepony...please...help me...” Derpy was gasping for air. Nurse Redheart bursted through the door and grabbed the stumbling mailmare by the hoof. “Oh my goodness, Derpy? Are you okay? What happened?”
Derpy stared into Nurse Redhearts’ eyes. “...Something’s...happening...”
Her eyes slowly rolled into the back of her head and turned a disgusting, pungent yellowish color. “Derpy?!” The Nurse checked her pulse. "She's...dead?"
All of the sudden, as if on queue, Derpys' seemingly lifeless body jolted violently. Startled, Nurse Redheart drooped her to the floor. There was no other pony there at the moment.
"Derpy...are...you alive?" The nurse whispered slowly.
Derpys' eyes opened quickly and she grabbed Nurse Redhearts' hind legs. "No! Let me go!"
The Nurse screamed in terror, her eyes widened.
The zombified mailmare pulled Redhearts' leg close to her snout, and ripped out a chunk of muscle and sinew with her teeth. Blood squirted violently in all directions as the Nurse fell to the floor in defeat.
Derpy sat upright, chewing on the leg bones of the fallen Nurse Redheart. Blood was dripping from her teeth.
The nurses' eyes opened, revealing the frightening yellow eyes caused by the infection. She stumbled to her hooves, and shambled slowly out the doorway, as Derpy got up and joined her.
"Hey guys, I foun' somethin'!" Applejack shouted with her head burrowed inside a cardboard box.
Rainbow Dash looked at her. "What? Is it anything good?"
Applejack pulled her self out of the box holding a SPAS 12 gauge shotgun.
"Wow!-" Said Pinkie Pie "- I don't remember using that to bake anything. Why would I have that anyways?"
"Hoo wee! This sure is somethin'!" She held the shiny gun out in front of herself, admiring it.
"No fair!-" Rainbow Dash scoffed "- I only got this crappy little pistol..."
"Girls, girls! That's enough! We'll find better weapons soon, I promise." Twilight exclaimed.
"But Twilight... where are we going? There are too many zombie-ponies out there!" Pinkie shrieked.
"I heard Celestia's army was holding out in Manehattan." Rainbow Dash replied with a sigh.
"Alright then. girls. We're heading to Manehattan." Twilight announced confidently. Pinkie Pie began to bounce up and down with excitement. "We're going to Manehattan, we're going to Manehattan! Weee!"
The four tired, worn out ponies walked out of the bakery and into the abandoned streets of Ponyville.
"Damn...this place sure is a wreck..." Rainbow Dash muttered to herself. "Well, think 'a what's happened in the las' day or so." Applejack responded.
"Wait, I have to see if Spike's okay... I left him alone in my haste to see what was going on...I sure hope he's okay." Just as Twilight was about to walk off, she stepped on a twig. Five near by infected stood up fast, honing in on the source of the noise. "I wanna do it, I wanna do it!" Yelled Pinkie Pie as she gripped her crowbar tightly.
She ran up to one of the infected ponies and smashed them square in the head, knocking it clean off it's shoulders.
Blood flew through the air, splatting on Pinkies' soft, pink coat. Another zombie-pony lunged at her from behind, but she quickly ducked down as the zombie continued stumbling. Pinkie swung at the zombie's hind legs, bringing it to the ground.
As she raised her crowbar, ready to finish the job, suddenly something wet and moist wrapped tightly around her body. She looked down to see what looked like a long, slimy tongue, constricting her as she was being slowly lifted off the ground.
"Smoker!" Yelled Applejack as she began blasting shots onto a near by roof.
Rainbow Dash spread her wings and flew up to the roof. "Hang on Pinkie!" She yelled down as Pinkie Pie was being dragged up the side of the house. Rainbow Dash pumped six shots into the Smokers' head, bits of skull and brain matter flew in all directions as the tall, slender, mutated stallion fell to the ground with a thud.
Rainbow flew back down to the ground as Twilight and Applejack rushed over to help Pinkie.
"Ewwww... this is nasty!" Pinkie Pie exclaimed as she unravelled the long tongue from herself.
"Come along now 'yall. We best be headin' 'ta Manehattan soon before it get's dark out." Apple Jack said.
"A.J.s' right guys, let's get moving." Rainbow Dash added.
As they were crossing through Ponyville, Twilight was surveying the area when she noticed her library. She looked into one of the windows to see Spike's lifeless body, slumped up against the glass pane. Twilights' heart skipped a beat as she could almost feel her stomach drop.
"Oh sweet Celestia..." She murmured softly. Rainbow Dash noticed her. "C'mon Twilight, what are you doing? It's gonna get dark soon!" She groaned impatiently. Twilights' eyes were open wide as she started into the window.
"'Yall okay, sugarcube?" Applejack was worried. She looked across the street at library, and then noticed what she was staring at.
"Oh...Oh my... Twi, I'm so sorry..." She whispered quietly. Twilight stood still, fighting back tears, as she thought of all the memories she shared with the little purple dragon. "Let's just...keep moving, please..."
The four ponies walked on quietly through the streets, not saying a word. "Hey, uh, Rainbow. Do 'ya think we should stop by Fluttershy's house? I haven't heard from 'er in a while..." Applejacks' voice was shaky. Rainbow stopped dead in her tracks.
"Rainbow Dash? What's wrong? Are you okay?!" Pinkie Pie was becoming nervous as Rainbow Dash stood silently.
"C'mon RD, not you too!" Applejack sounded as if she was about to cry.
Rainbow Dash began to see images play back in her head of the day when the outbreak first started.
