Why Not?
The First Day
Previous ChapterNext ChapterJordan wiped his brow and paused to take in his surroundings, he was currently in a dense and lush forest. The plant life here was quite diverse and he was only able to recognize a few plants. The same could not be said for the wildlife, he had only seen some birds and bugs, a few bunnies, some deer, a fox, and one snake. He'd been walking for what felt like hours, he took his phone out and looked at the time 'damn, only been two hours'.
He put his phone away and looked at the sky, the sun was slowly making its descent. Jordan needed to find shelter before it got to dark. He adjusted a black backpack on his shoulder and continued walking. The backpack was a gift from Discord, it carried basic survival gear such as flint, a serrated hunting knife, some rope, a canteen with a built-in filter, and oddly a journal with three pens.
He turned his attention back at hand and continued his walk. After 30 minutes of walking he came across a small clearing and decided to make camp before it got to dark. He began to gather some firewood and returned to the clearing. He placed the firewood in the middle of the clearing and made it oven shaped so as to let off more heat. Being a pyro taught you a few cool tricks and techniques.
Jordan than grabbed some nearby rocks and placed these around the soon to be fire so it wouldn't spread. Satisfied that the fire had no way of spreading he began to forage for any edibles, luckily he came across some blueberry bushes. These would be enough to fill him for the time being. After gathering a healthy amount at his camp he looked at the sky, the sun was just disappearing behind some mountains.
Jordan brought out the Flint and his knife and started the fire. After a few tries he had roaring fire. He set two logs on top so the fire would burn slow and last through the night. He leaned against a tree and breathed deeply, this was real, he was no longer in his world, no longer feeling suffocated. He felt free, he felt relaxed, and most of all he felt happy.
He looked at the sky again and took note that the stars here were brighter and clearer. He ate a few berries and washed them down with a drink of water. Just as he began to contemplate about tomorrows goals he heard a twig snap and the sound of padding. He assumed it was a passing animal and reached for his knife. He poked the fire, causing the flames to momentarily flare, illuminating the surrounding area.
To say he was surprised was an understatement, the fire had revealed five wolf like creatures except these wolves were made from bark. Jordan' first thought was to yell some very vulgar words and work from there but something told him to hold that thought. He carefully sat up a little straighter and relaxed his hold on the knife.
If these Wolves wanted to kill him they would've done it by now, 'Maybe they just wanna play with their food'. "Oh shut up conscious."
The Wooden Wolves ears perked up at his voice and tilted their head, "Fuck," Jordan said quietly. One of the Wolves began to move forward directly across from him and sat on its haunches. Now that is was closer to the fire, he could make out more of its appearance. Its eyes were a florescent green and its fangs were sharp looking splinters that looked like they could still tear a throat if need be. Its most interesting trait to Jordan was its body, it was made purely from wood but in a way that fitted the creatures.
The funny yet strange thing was the fact that the Wolf looked as if it were studying him. "Nah, couldn't be," he said waving his hand. The Wolf gave him a curious glance and barked questioningly. Jordan looked at the Wolf and shook his head, "Its nothing, so go away I have some sleep to get to."
The Wolf barked once more and looked at his Blueberries pointedly. "What, you want my berries?" he asked curiously. The Wolf nodded and barked once more. Jordan was about to say go ahead but paused, "You can understand me?" The Wolf nodded once more and Jordan just stared before chuckling. Not even a day here and he met Wolves made from wood that could probably kill him with ease and here they were asking for his damn Blueberries, with manner too.
After his chuckling he said "Go ahead and help yourself, I'll find some more later."
The Wolf looked to his compadres and barked, they trotted forward and they all began to eat the berries. 'This moment right here made it to the top 5 weirdest things that I've done'. The Wolves ate in silence and Jordan pulled out his journal and a pen. He opened it up to the first page and wrote 'Day:1, My time here has already proved to be new and different. I have encountered new plants and new wildlife. The night skies are clearer and more beautiful than I could have thought. I currently appear to be in a forest and it seems to contain most of our basic species, but I have come across something quite peculiar, a Wolf made entirely from wood save for its eyes which appear to be filled with an uncanny green glow. The Wolves seem friendly enough but I would assume like most Wolves at home they are semi-friendly because I have yet to be seen as a threat. Their diet seems to be made up of fruits and judging by their teeth, meat as well. I have met Omnivore Wolves and even now as I write this they continue to eat my Blueberries which I came across. So far my deal with Discord seems to be a fine deal I've made but for how long, I don't know. I do know that Murphy's Law will soon kick in and that I should expect the unexpected but also unexpect the expected. Tomorrow I continue with my journey in search of civilization and or at least evidence of it.
