Pain of Love

'Luna, I'm coming to show you the pain you left me in.' I think as I start to channel magic into my horn. My magic opens a portal to the world below, known as Equus. I step into the portal. When I come out of the silver and black mass I see myself looking at a small town. I start walking to this town, knowing that I will find somepony there.

I pass by a cottage with plenty of animals behind it. I continue walking.

"Where is the center of this settlement?' I ask myself. Just then I see a tall building with a few lights on inside. I step up to the door and knock a couple times. After a few moments of standing in the full moon an ivory unicorn with a royal purple mane answers the door.

"I'm terribly sorry but business hours are during the day, so would yo-" The unicorn finally takes a look at me. She doesn't speak so I say in my deep voice,"We are sorry for coming at such a late hour, but we were wondering if you could lead us to town hall?" this snaps her back to reality.

"I'm sorry but I've never seen a stallion alicorn, so who might you be?" she asks.

"We are The Prince Artermis, Guardian of the Moon." I tell her, "We are usually on the moon watching over this world."

"Oh, well it is an honor. Town hall is just over there." she motions with a hoof. I nod and say, "We thank you." I turn and start on my way to the town hall, but the unicorn calls out to me, "The town hall isn't open until morning." I stop and return to her threshold and say, "We thank you once more, but now we must ask where the nearest inn may be."

"The inns are no place for royalty, I will allow you to stay here in my guest room."

"We could not allow you to do that, for you have done so much already." She shakes her head.

"No,no, I insist, come on in." I chuckle as I step into the mare's home.

"We haven't heard your name, fair lady."

"Oh, how rude of me. I am Rarity."

"Well Lady Rairity, may we be shown to thine guest room?"

"Yes follow me." She replies and turns around to go upstares. I follow her up to a royal purple door and we enter the room. The room wasn't like my royal chambers on the moon but it will have to do.

"Well I hope this is fitting for you, Prince. I will be going to bed soon, so goodnight."

"Goodnight Lady Rairity." She leaves the room, closing the door behind her.

I lay on the bed, not intent on sleeping on such a beautiful night. So I pull a small sound recorder from under my chest armor. The recorder was about the size of an apple. I was shaped like Celestia's mark of destiny, simbolizing that this was her song. I rotate the center with my magic starting the [url=youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4tyvJJzSDk]song.

Once the song was finished, the center peice clicked back into place. I was soft asleep, dreaming about Luna.

The next morning before sunrise.

I wake to the soft song of a mocking jay. I slowly stand up and put the sun sound recorder back under my chest armor. I walk towards the door of the room and exit. I walk downstairs to see Rairity working on something. I notice that she is focusing intently on whatever it was that she was making. I just take a seat on her couch and wait for her to finish. The sun starts to rise and I here soft hoofsteps coming down the stares. I turn to see a young unicorn filly looking at me in wonder. I just chuckle and look back out the window to the coming sunrise. Once the sun is up in the sky, I turn to look at Rairity who is looking back at me.

"Good morning Lady Rairity." I tell her.

"Good morning Prince." She answers.

"WOW, your a prince?" asks the young filly. I turn to the filly.

"Yes young one, we are a Prince. We are Prince Artermis, Gaurdian of the Moon."

"WOW, thats so cool!" I stand up and channel magic into my horn. I feel the moon rotating and once it is at the desired position I stop my magic.

"What did you just do?" asks the filly unicorn.

"We just did our job of rotating the moon. We are responsible for the phases of the moon." I answer as I sit back down.

"Oh, but what happened to you?" asks Rairity.

"Hmm? Oh that, The Moon and I are linked with deep ancient magic, so when the moon is full we apear as we were before. However, when the moon is new, we are completely dark, our mane turns into a flowing black mass, our coat is a deep blue, and even our mark of destiny changes. Our mark shows the moon's status. So as you can see the moon is now smaller than it was last night." I explane with pride.

"That is just... oh I don't know what word fits the description of how awasome that is." says the young filly. I chuckle and look out to the sun and see that it is coming time for me to leave. I sigh and turn to Rairity.

"Lady Rairity, it is almost time for us to continue our search for the princesses." I tell her with a slightly regretful tone.

"If your looking for the Princesses, then you should visit the unicorn Twilight Sparkle, she is Celestia's personal protege." says Rairity. I think about this for a while then ask, "Will you take us to this unicorn?"

"Of coarse, she should be awake by now so whenever you're ready we shall leave." She replies. I stand and the sun sound recorder falls out beneath my armor. I sigh and pick it up and put it back under my armor.

"If I'm not asking to much, may I know what that is?" asks Rairity.

"You can never ask to much lady Rairity. The object you just saw is a sound recorder that has a song made by Celestia on it. We can't let you here the song for it is only for Princess Luna." I stand and strech my wings and legs and say, "Let us leave for Twilight Sparkle's home." Rairity nods and walks towards the door. Before she leaves she turns to the young filly and says, "Sweetie Belle, make sure you make it to school, and when school is finished for the day you can play with the other crusaders."

"YAY!" Shouts the young unicorn. I chuckle and head out of Rairity's home. Rairity follows me out and we head off to the home of Twilight Sparkle.

As we traveled trough the small vilage I notice ponies giving me long confused looks. I just shrug them off and continue to follow Rairity.

We make it to a large hollowed out tree that still lives with the aid of petty magic. Rairity knocks on the door, and a few seconds later a young drake opens the door. Upon seeing Rairity he clearly becomes smitten with her. I just chuckle at the sight. This brings the young drake to look at me. Upon seeing me he cowers and asks, "What can I do for you?" I look the young dragon in the eyes and say, "We request an audience with the unicorn Twilight Sparkle." The young dragon nods his head and says, "Sure let me go get her, in the meantime come in and take a seat." I nod and let Rairity enter the home first, then enter myself. I look around the house and see books lining the walls. My magic grabs all the books, turns the pages towards me, and starts flipping through the pages so quickly that a soft breeze is created from all the pages moving. My eyes start to glow white as knowlage starts flowing into my mind.

After three minutes of this all the books are showing their back covers to me. I reorganize the books to be in the royal order then shelf them all. I close my eyes for a few moments, letting the knowlage I just copied into my mind, settle. After all the knowlage settled, I open my eyes to see a lavender mare unicorn looking at me in awe. I chuckle and wave a hoof in front of her face. She shakes her head and asks, "What did you just do with all my books?"

"I just read them all, scanning the contents of every page into my mind."

"How can you do that, I can only scan two books a day."

"Ah, you see, I am the creator of the spell. And being the creator allows me to use the skill as much as I want."

"Not even Celestia herself can do what you just did. Who are you?"

"I am the Prince Artermis, Gaurdian of the Moon. 'Coarse you wouln't know this because it seems history has forgotten me. I will fix that later, but for now what is your name?"

"Oh, I am Twilight Sparkle, personal student of Princess Celestia. May I ask where you came from Prince?"

"I came from my castle on the moon. I am here to see the Princess Luna. Will you notify them of my pressence in Equestria."

"Sure, let me notify them right now. Spike." she calls out.

"Yes Twilight?" asks the young dragon I had seen before.

"Take a letter please. Dear Princesses, I have met a male alicorn by the name of Prince Artermis. He wishes to see you. He is here at the library with me. Your faithful student, Twilight Sparkle."

"Got it." says Spike as he rolls up the parchment he was writing on. He blows a green flame of fire onto the scroll, sending it off to where ever the Princesses are. A few moments later Spike belches a green flame that forms into a scroll.

Twilight takes the scroll into her magical grasp and begins to read it.

"My faithful student, Luna and I are very happy to here this, we will be there momentarily. Princess Celestia." After Twilight finished reading, the two Princesses walk into the library. I sense the use of magic as the door shuts.

Luna sees me and runs at me tackling me to the floor in a hug. Celestia just sheds a tear.

"I thought I would never see you again." Luna cries into my chest.

"Come now dear Luna, I told you I would return." A tear escapes my eye and rolls down to my chin. I hug Luna tighter and say, "I promised I would return." Celestia, now silently crying, comes up to me and embraces me. We all stayed like that for a few minutes before Celestia pulls away and stands a couple feet back. Luna just holds me tighter. I levitate her onto my back and stand up. Luna is now silently crying into my ethereal mane.

"When did you return?" asks Celestia still trying to recompose herself.

"Just last night. I created a portal to bring me here. I closed it after I was here in Equestria."

"Excuse me, but I don't know if you are safe to be around." says Twilight looking at me suspiciously.

"I am Prince Artermis, Guardian of the Moon. I cared for Luna while she was there. Which reminds me. I have something for the both of you." I tell the three mares. Twilight just nods and turns back to her books.

"What could you possibly have for us?" asks Luna. I pull the two recorders from under my armor. One shaped as a golden sun, the other shaped as a half moon.

"These are what I brought you both. I would like you to use them only after we all return to the castle, but if you want, you can listen to them now." I say as I give the sun recorder to Luna, and the moon recorder to Celestia.

"I think we should listen to his wish sister." says Luna as she looks at the sun recorder before putting it under her regalia. Celestia nods and does the same with the moon recorder.

"I'm sorry this visit is cut short, my faithful student." says Celestia nuzzling her prized puple.

"It's completely fine Princess, I believe you three have a lot of catching up to do." replies Twilight while nuzzling Celestia back.

"Oh, Twilight if you ever wish to see me, just look to the moon and ask for me. I will come." I tell Twilight as I prepare to teleport to the royal palace.

She nods so I start channeling magic into my horn. In a dark blue flash the princesses and I appeared in at the castle's front gate. The gaurds let us through without even a glance my way. We all go to the royal study and sit down across from one another.

"So what are these?" asks Luna while looking at the sun recorder.

"Both of the objects I gave you two, are sound recorders that I made. To activate the sun you rotate the center, to activate the moon you slide the top peice around to make a full moon. After that is done they will replay what I have on them for you. Luna we should listen to yours first." I tell them. Luna rotates the center, making the recorder play thesong.

Once the song finished Luna is in tears staring at the recorder. Celestia then takes the moon recorder and activates it, making it play the song.

When that song was finished the two sisters were hugging each other, tears streaming down their faces. I give a soft smile and wait while the two to finish their moment. After about a minute they separate and Celestia asks, "When did you here these songs?"

"I heard them every single time the two of you sang them. Although I added the music they are still your lullabies that you sang to each other. I recorded them the second time I heard them. And knew that you would both want to hear the other's song, so I held onto these for the last thousand years making sure that you two would here them. Besides this is what your father asked of me."

The rest of the day went to us spending time together and telling stories.
