Pain of Love

I am currently standing on Luna's balcony, looking over Equestria. My attention is on the small village I came from. I feel Luna lean on my side so I turn my head to see her.

"What are you looking at?" she asks.

"The village I came from." I answer. I sigh and gaze at my moon. I lite my horn with magic and rotate the moon til only half is showing. My coat is now a light shade of blue, my mane slightly darker. I stop the magic as I hear Twilights voice calling at the moon.

"Twilight is calling, I will return shortly." I tell Luna. She nods and I spred my wings and take off to the small village.

I land on Twilights balcony and see her there, looking at me.

"You called?" I ask the young mare.

"Yes, I was wondering if we could talk." She replies. I give a soft smile, giving a silent yes.

"What do you wish to talk about?" I ask.

"Well first we should go inside, it is cold out here." Twilight says with a shiver. We both head inside, via a glass door. We both head downstairs into the main part of the library. I take a seat on the couch. She sits next to me.

"Alright Twilight, what would you like to talk about?" I ask with a chuckle.

"I want to know about you." She replies.

"Well ask questions, and I will answer to the best of my ability." I tell her with a nod.

"Okay, first off how did you end up on the moon?" She asks.

"Celestia's father asked me to stay there and guard Equis from the threat of outer world threats, like the shadow, and the shards of the jewel of death. The king also told me to prepare for visitors. He wanted ponies to origanally live on the moon, I, at the time, was open to such a wild idea, but then the draconiqui came from out of nowhere. I used my moon as a shield, making it fly aroung the planet so fast that to those on the world would see a white stripe across the sky. I smashed almost all of the Draconiqui on the dark side of the moon, all except one. A baby draconiquis made it passed my moon shield and landed on the planet. I never saw what happened with that young draconiquis. I asked the king if he wanted me to search for the infint creature, but instead he told me to stay on the moon and continue my job. Well, eons passed and eventually a black female alicorn apeared on my moon. She called herself Nightmare Moon. I senced a second pressence however, and seppparated the two. One being Luna, the other being my sister Dream. I sealed Dream away in the highest tower in my castle, for she was corrupt with anger and jelousy. I kept Luna with me at all times. Keeping her safe from the dangers of the moon. An eon later she dissapeared, and I was left alone on my moon once more. Can you keep a secret Twilight Sparkle?" She nods her head.

"I have fallen in love with Luna." I tell Twilight. Twilight's eyes widen at this.

"How and when?" She asks. I chuckle lightly.

"It was when she sang her lullaby to her sister when she was on the moon. I was first thinking I was just doing my duty to the king, but my heart led me to other reasons as well." I sigh before continuing, "which gave my heart all the more pain when she just disappeared. I searched relentlessly across my moon, tortured countless creatures, and even search the dark side of the moon before I even thought of returning here." A tear escapes my eye as the pain of losing Luna returns for a few moments.

"Are you okay?"

"Yes Twilight."

"If it's not to much trouble, who was Celestia and Luna's father?"

"He is still in existence. He is just an acended alicorn, as well as the first alicorn to exist. He doesn't have a name, for he is the creator of the multiverse, Luna and Celestia's mother was the second alicorn. She put the stars in the sky. She has a name, but I am not the one to tell this to you."

"Oh, so what alicorn are you?"

"I am the forth. I am the bringer of the moons, as well as dark magic." I say, filled with pride.

"Who is the third?" This struck a cord in my heart that I never wish to strike again.

"She was my previous lover. Her name is Terra Nova. We had a daughter before she ascended. Our, well now only my, daughter's name is princess Mi Amore' Cadenza." I raise an eyebrow as Twilights face turns to one of pure awe.

"You're Cadence's Dad?" asks Twilight as she starts to pace around the library. She is talking to herself at a dizzying pace. I light my horn and put a telekinetic force around her mouth silencing her. She looks at me in surprise.

"I'm going to let you speak now, but please slow down." She nods so I let my magic fade away.

"How are you Cadence's father?"

"Well I assume you understand how to reproduce, correct?" Twilight blushes and nods, "Good, well it's no different for alicorns." I feel my wings start to stiffen but I over power the urge.

"But, Cadence is Celestia and Luna's neice."

"That was a lie the King put in place when Cadence was put under the Queen's care."

"It.. was... a lie?"

"Yes, even Celestia and Luna don't know this, so please don't tell them. The only problems I had with this lie was that I couldn't be there for her childhood, and she doesn't even know I exist. I hope to change that in the near future."

"Wait, if your the forth alicorn, how old does that make you?"

"I am old enough that you wouldn't be able to count the numbers in your life time." I say. Twilight is stunned to say the least. I break into laughter. I eventualy calm down, wipping tears from my eyes.

"Please Twilight, I am only a little over eight thousand years old." I say, chuckling a bit at the end. I stand and stretch my wings planning to head back to Canterlot.

"Prince, why did you really return to Equestria?" asks Twilight.

"I'm sorry Twilight, but that is for me to know, and only me. I need to be heading back now so I bid you goodnight. Twilight, and you need to stop trying to pry information out of my mind. I have mental barriers in my mind that will put you in a coma, so please don't try anymore." I head for the door, but before I exit the library I put a quick spell into the mind of Twilight, making her fall asleep. I then exit the library and take flight to Canterlot.

I land outside the palace gaits. I walk up to the gaurds, expecting them to allow me through.

"HALT, state your buisness at the palace." says one of the gaurds. I sigh.

"I am the Prince Artermis, gaurdian of the moon, I am returning form a visit to Ponyville."

"There are no alicorn princes. I'm going to have to ask you to leave." I sigh once more, this time out of annoyance.

"I was planning not to have to do this." I say as I light my horn. I weave a summoning spell right before the gaurds. When the spell was complete, one of my personal Lunar wraith gaurds appears next to me.

"You called Prince?" asked Tirrany.

"Yes, I have an objective for you. Make these two allow me access to the palace, then follow me through the castle." I say with a look of pure bordom on my face. Tirrany bows and moves up to the gaurds. Before the gaurds could do anything Tirrany placed a simple knowledge spell on them. once said spell was complete the gaurds opened the gaits. The gaurds bow to me as Tirrany and I walk into the castle grounds.

I make it back to Luna's bed chambers without insident. I releaved Tirrany once I entered her room. Looking for Luna, I find her out on her balcony, looking at the stars. I light my horn, rotating the moon till it was new, making me turn into my darker form of a flowing black mane, deep blue coat, and my mark of destiny has a black moon in it.

Luna notices the change in the moon and turns around to see me. I walk up to Luna and say, "It is easier to see your mothers stars when the moon is new." She hugs me with tears once again falling from her eyes.

"Now now dear Luna, I'm right here." I say, trying to comfort the godess of the night.

"I know you are. I still thought I would never see you again. I will always remember how you cared for me." Luna is now a mess of tears, and sobs. I levitate her onto her bed and began to sing.

Fate has been cruel and order unkind

The blame was my own; the punishment, yours

Once did a pony who shone like the sun

So great was her reign and so brilliant her glory
That long was the shadow she cast
Which fell dark upon the young sister she loved
And grew only darker as days and nights passed

Lullay moon princess, goodnight sister mine
And rest now in moonlight's embrace
Bear up my lullaby, winds of the earth
Through cloud, and through sky, and through space

Carry the peace and the coolness of night
And carry my sorrow in kind
Luna, you're loved so much more than you know
Forgive me for being so blind

Soon did that pony take notice that others
Did not give her sister her due
And neither had she loved her as she deserved
She watched as her sister's unhappiness grew

But such is the way of the limelight, it sweetly
Takes hold of the mind of its host
And that foolish pony did nothing to stop
The destruction of one who had needed her most

When I finished Luna was asleep. I then walked back out onto the balcony and reversed the moons rotation to its half empty state.
