Chapter 1 - The Man And His Box

Load Full StoryNext Chapter

Somewhere out in the universe, there was a large blue box flying around. This box was the spaceship for a great man. The mans name was unknown, but preferred to be known simply as the Doctor. He's been flying around for over 900 years, saving the universe and protecting humanity carefully.

Without a companion and on a course for the little blue planet in the year 2015, the Doctor was sitting in his TARDIS thinking about his life.

He took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly.

"Well, I've been protecting humanity for a long time. Wonder how that lot would ever survive without me."

He chuckles lightly and sighs.

"Imagine if I never borrowed you."

He looks around the interior of his TARDIS with a grin.

"Well, the Daleks would've beaten the Timelords and destroyed all life anyway."

He jumps up from his seat and slowly walks around the central console of his TARDIS, lightly touching it with his fingers as he walked. He stopped and clapped his hands together.

"Right, time to go-"

Before he could complete his sentence, the TARDIS shook with a mighty force, knocking the Doctor to the railing.

"What the bloody hell?!"

He stood up and walked towards the doors of the TARDIS, struggling while it continued to shake. He grabbed hold of the doors and threw them open. What he saw made his jaw drop. The TARDIS was flying through the Time Vortex, but at the same time it was flying away from a gigantic tear inside the vortex. The Doctor grunted in anger.

"Brilliant! Just what we needed!"

The Doctor could barely hear himself over the TARDIS' struggle.

He shook his head and sighed, closing the doors of the TARDIS. He spun around and walked towards the central console, again with difficulty due to the attempts of the TARDIS struggling to escape the tear. When he reached the console, he placed both hands on the devices scattered on the console and began pulling and pushing on the many knobs and buttons.

"We can't leave a tear in time alone!"

He reached up and pulled a rope, making a bell noise as the TARDIS continued its shaking.

"We need to go inside and find whatever is keeping it open, then we close the tear! If we leave it, the results could be catastrophic!"

He grunted as he pulled a lever and squeaked a rubber ducky.

"Unfortunately, we might be trapped wherever we're left! Do I have a plan to get back here?! Nope! Let's go!"

He mashed his hand onto a large red button with a big smile as the TARDIS stop struggling and was flung through the tear. The interior shook and spun rapidly as it lost control. The Doctor held on for dear life onto the central console, trying not to let go.

"Alonns-y!"

"Lyra, honestly. You need to stop this obsession with those "hew-mens" or whatever they're called. Don't you need to practice playing your lyre, anyway?"

Lyra shook her head.

"No way, Bon-Bon! They're just too fascinating for me to ignore! I want to meet one someday!"

Bon-Bon shook her head with a small smile and went back to her salad as Lyra continued scanning her Mythology book for any information on bipedal apes.

"Hiya, girls!"

Bon-Bon looked to the new voice with an even bigger smile and a wave.

"Hay, Derpy! How are you?"

When Derpy approached the couple, she giggled.

"Ah, you know. The usual. I got a letter for you!"

Derpy reached behind herself and into her saddle bag, pulling out a letter and hoofing it to Bon-Bon. She grabbed it and nodded.

"Thanks, Derpy."

Derpy smiled and looked to Lyra with a puzzled look.

"What's that book about?"

Lyra looked up from her reading to Derpy.

"Mythology. I'm trying to find something about humans, but I can't find anything!"

Lyra banged her head down onto the pages and groaned in defeat. Derpy giggled and gave Lyra an apologetic smile.

"Don't worry, Lyra. If you look hard enough, you'll find them! Or if you're lucky, they'll find you!"

Lyra lifted her head and sighed with a sad look.

"Yeah, I guess so."

Derpy turns around and walks off, waving back to the two friends. Derpy started humming to herself as she walked through the streets of Ponyville. She loved it in Ponyville. She had loads of friends whom she loved dearly, and plenty of ponies who didn't mind having a small conversation with her.

As Derpy was walking through the streets, she glanced down one of the alley ways. She stopped walking completely and stared at what she saw.

A very large, blue box.

She stared a few seconds more before deciding to walk up to it. Taking cautious steps, she slowly made her way to the foreign object. It was covered in strange lettering and seemed to have doors. With a careful hoof, she reached out and knocked on the doors.

~Inside The TARDIS~

"Uugggghhh. Well, that was rough."

The Doctor slowly lifted himself from the floor of the TARDIS, rubbing the back of his head with caution.

"Bloody hell. Where are we?"

He looked down upon his figure, hoping that none of his limbs were missing.

What he saw was a pair of brown hooves and a tail. The Doctor's eyes grew wide with shock and leaped up from the floor.

"AH! WHAT?!"

He leaned on the railing and examined himself. Yep, he had hooves. And a tail. He reached his han- hooves in front of himself.

"Well, this is odd. Talk about a new face and body! I don't even look anything like a Timelord, I'm a horse! Wait, I'm too small for a horse. So I'm a pony?! Why am I a pony?!"

He reached up to the top of his head and pulled his hair down.

"Not ginger. Again."

He let go of his hair with a creeped out look.

"Wait, how did I grab my hair with hooves? And on another note, why am I a pony?"

*Knock, Knock, Knock*

The Doctor cringed at the familiar sound. He got up and sighed, looking to the doors with a sad look.

"Yeah, just a second!"

He looked down to his hooves with an unsure look.

"Okay, let's see if I can walk or not."

~Ponyville, Alley way~

Derpy flinched away and shut her eyes as she knocked afraid of what would happen.

"Yeah, just a second!"

She opened her eyes and stared at the box, confused. Somepony was inside?

With a nervous voice, Derpy spoke up.

"Um. H-Hello? Is s-s-somepony in there?"

A loud thud resounded from inside the box.

"Ow! Yes, there is somepo- somepony?"

The doors shook a bit before opening. Derpy watched in awe as a brown coated earth pony exited the mysterious blue box. The mystery pony looked to Derpy with a cocky smile.

"Hullo! I'm the Doctor!"

Derpy squealed in surprise and fell back on her flanks. The Doctor looked down at her strangely.

"What are you doing down there?"

Derpy gave the Doctor an angry look and started getting off the ground and back onto her hooves.

"What am I doing here? What are YOU doing in some strange box-thing?!"

The Doctor turned to the blue box and back to Derpy.

"It's my ship! May I introduce my TARDIS!"

Derpy cocked her head to the left in confusion.

"Your ship? It's just a box!"

The Doctor chuckled and smiled at Derpy.

"On the outside, yes. It's just a box. Now, if you'll excuse me..."

The Doctor pushed passed Derpy and strolled by her and out the alley way, as if nothing happened. Derpy shook her head and ran out of the alley way, following the Doctor by his side.

"So, um, who are you?"

The Doctor was looking around the town. He seemed to be amazed at the things he saw.

"I already told you, I'm the Doctor."

"Doctor who?"

The Doctor chuckled and sighed.

"Just the Doctor."

Derpy gave his form a quick check. He had a brown coat and mane, along with a tie of sorts around his neck. On his flanks was his cutie mark, an hourglass. The Doctor caught her staring at his flank.

"Oi! Stop looking at my bum."

Derpy quickly looked back to the Doctor with a sheepish smile.

"Sorry, Doctor. I just wanted to know what your cutie mark is."

"My what?"

Derpy laughed and motioned her head towards her flank, which had bubbles on it.

"You know, a cutie mark? It shows up when you discover your special talent!"

The Doctor looked back to his flank and saw the hourglass. He laughed and returned his look to Derpy.

"Well, that would make sense."

She glanced back to his flank with a puzzled expression and looked back to the Doctor.

"How does it make sense? It's an hourglass! What is your talent, time or something?"

"Yep, that sounds about right."

Derpy shook her head and frowned.

"My head hurts."

The Doctor laughed and smiled widely.

"Yeah, that'll happen when you talk to me. Happens to all my friends."

Derpy's face lit up with a massive smile.

"I'm your friend?"

The Doctor stopped and turned to her, smiling.

"You can be if you want to be."

The Doctor's face suddenly looked shocked.

"Since when were your eyes like that? And I never caught your name Miss..."

Derpy frowned and sighed.

"My name is Derpy, and my eyes...well-"

A loud, piercing scream echoed through the town. The Doctor turned his head away from Derpy and towards where the sound was coming from.

"Talk later, run now!"

The Doctor went into full sprint towards the sound of the scream, leaving Derpy with a few seconds to react then run after him towards the commotion.

~Sugarcube Corner~

The Doctor ran up to the windows of the bakery with Derpy following behind. He looked inside and saw what appeared to be a pink pony curled up in a ball, lying down on the floor with a look of terror. He pushed the door open and ran up to the pink pony with Derpy by his side. He leaned down to her level and grabbed her hooves. She looked absolutely terrified.

"Calm down, now! What happened? Is something wrong?"

The pony nodded and curled up tighter.

"Where is it?! What's wrong?!"

"Life form incompatible. Upgrade impossible. Delete. Delete. Delete."

The Doctor froze with fear when he heard that. He looked to the entrance of the kitchen where the pony was looking with absolute fear.

Standing in the doorway, was a full sized Cyberman with his hand outstretched.

"Delete. Delete. Delete."
