Rarity's Lament

"Well I guess today is the day!" said Rarity as she finally closed the door of her boutique for the final time.

She had thought that selling fantasy gifts and treats to all the residents of Equestria would bring her happiness, but it actually brought her close to tears on some previous occasions because of how bad it was and it got almost too much for this small horse.

As she shuttered up shop with magic she wondered how it had all come to this. She thought back to how she had made her first sale, her last sale, and one in the middle which was particularly memorable. Then she put these thoughts to the back of her mind. On the way home she remembered them again and then forgot them again. Such is the nature of memory.

As she lay in bed that night she remembered something tragic and immediate which shocked her immediate! "Oh no!" she exclaimed, sweat beginning to seep into her blanket. "I have forgotten my diamond hooves at the shop!" She rushed out of bed, and as she galloped back to the shop she saw a shocking sight which shocked her to the core. Her shop was gone. In its place stood a Horse-Mart, the chain that had bought the store out from under her despite her resistance.

"Oh yes," she said, in a brief moment of lucidity, "I sold my shop." Then she started crying again. What a bad situation to be in.

The next day, Rarity was still very upset about the situation, and wondered what could be done. She called her friend Rainbow Dash over to see what she could help with, but she couldn't help with anything as she wasn't that great at business law. She decided to go to the park to clear her head and feel like a real pony for the first time in damn ages.

As she opened the door of her house she saw something really good! Her diamond hooves were there on her doorstep, with a note saying 'I think you forgot these ;)'. She took the box inside and opened it and there were her diamond hooves, just as she'd left them at the shop. A note attached to the box said 'I think you forgot these!' Well she was just really happy. She wondered who had not only found her hooves, but sent them back to her too.
