chapter four: night
Previous ChapterNext ChapterI feel like a baby. I asked to dual. I was confidant. I fainted, well, died for a moment. I lost. Now I have to teach her something. I do not want teach her invisibility. As it is my specialty, I want to be the best at it. I know that if I teach her, she will practice and get better. She is the protege of a god. She will get better than me. I don't want to be worse than her. I train for my life and I lose what's most important to me. Though I am bound by my promise to teach her what she asks about. please don't ask me about invisibility.
"Hey blue pony. I'm not sure if this means I win, but having a heart attack is kind of like surendering." She started at me after a few minutes of me thinking of what had happened or may happen. She said blue pony. If she asks for a name, I can tell her... uh... Glass. That name is stuck with me till the day I die anyway. And that day was almost today. "I think we both can agree that you lost. Now I get to decide what you teach me." Here it comes. don't say invisibility. "When you hit me with that big ball and it popped, you didn't pick it up or anything. It just appeared there. Your horn wasn't glowing. How did you do that?" Welp. Shit.
"I thought I already told you that I could do invisibility." This one is odd. She pays all attention when it matters but when it doesn't, she has no memory. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding this.
"You did, yes. But in order to make your glow invisible, you must cast a spell to make it invisible. I want to know the ceramics of invisibility." Pffffff. She is persistant. And observant. I'm not sure if I should be annoyed by this or exited. Well, at least I can get out of the hospital.
"I will tell what ever you want to know about it once we get out of this place." These blankets are itchy.
The doctor came over to unplug the machines that are connected to me and take off all the I.V.'s. I was now free to leave. I got up out of bed and threw my saddle bags over my back with a slight jolt of pain. I can't believe that I had a heart attack. We both started to walk out of the hospital when the doctor came over to and stepped infront of me.
"I'm sorry sir but it's hospital law that I have to walk you out of here on a wheelchair." Hrmph. Wheelchairs are super uncomfyable.
*Grumble* "Yeah. Sure. Law is law is law is law, right?"
The doctor pushed me outside where I could stand up and he could go back to whatever he was doing. Me and twilight started to walk down the path back to town when I realise what time it is.
"Woah! it's night time. I got here in the morning. I must have been out longer than I thought." The stars are so much more clear and easy to see at this time of night in this little town. I love this place.
"Yeah, well, I have to go home now. Spike's probably worried. I spent all day out at this hospital waiting for you to wake up. Where are you staying?" She asked me and I stopped walking. I didn't even have time to book a room anywhere.
"Oh. Staying. I, actually, don't have anywhere to go. I was going to get a room at the inn but I died. So I didn't get a chance." I didn't even think that I would have to. I was just going to find a log to cozy up by and make a tent.
"Well, ponyville doesn't have an inn. If you need a place to stay, I have a spare room in the library. You could maybe stay up a little longer and tell me how the invisibility works." Yes! this is great. I have got a mare who is asking me to sleep at her house with her. I didn't think it would- Woah! Woah! Woah! Hold on buddy. This is just a because you were not able to get another place to sleep. You're lucky you didn't have to open the hole.
"That would be great. Thank you. I would have just camped outside anyway, but thank you. I hope I am not a burden." This adventure is starting out very well. I've got a friend and a nice place to stay. This is wonderful.
"No. I think spike will like you. He likes mostly everyone. Besides, I have to put him to bed anyway." I hope spike likes me. Wait a minute. Who's spike?
"So, is spike your... son? I didn't see him when I was there before." I had to ask her. He sounded like son material.
"Well, not really. I guess you could call him my son, but we are not related in any way. I'm just taking care of him to help me in my studies and keep the place clean." That still doesn't answer my question.
We kept walking through the town while we talked about the history of this town. It has been the center of two apocalyptic events so far and with possibility of more. Seems like it must be hard to live here.
Finally we arrived at her house. The tree. "And then he was turned back into stone. It was pretty scary." We just finished up as we got inside.
"Twilight. You have been gone all day. I didn't even get to have breakfast. I had to get some gems from Rarity." There he was. Spike was not her son. Not even a pony. Spike was a small purple dragon. I can now understand what she meant. I would guess that this is like a perk to being Celestia's protege.
"I'm so sorry spike. I had given this pony a heart attack and I couldn't leave. I promise to make the best breakfast you will ever eat in the morning, but right now, you have to go to bed." Yup. She is definitely a mother. blood related or not.
"What?!? But you. Nevermind. Goodnight, twilight. Goodnight, other pony." He looked at me for a moment and then walked up a staircase that was carved into the wall into a room.
"Nice meeting you." I called to him as he went out of sight. I was able to catch a little mumble but not enough to understand.
The room stood quiet for a moment. I looked at her and she looked back. She was the first one to speak up. "Well that's spike." She trotted past me, beconing me to follow. "Your room is right in here." She said as we walked into another room. 'Lot bigger on the inside. She lift her hoof to show an empty room.
"lt doesn't have any beds or couches in it, but l can get a spare mattress from the basement" I stopped her before she could walk off. She is giving me enough already. She shouldn't have to do much more.
"No, thats fine. This is a good place to start our magic talk. l've got something here that you will really love to see. I discovered this while I was messing with magic as a colt. lt's called, The Hole." I guess I will use this anyways. Just can't let her use it. lt's to painful.
"Good, I couldn't think of a good way to start anyways." Neither did l.
l took off my saddle bags and set them on the ground. I went to a side pocket that was only meant for the hole. Never know what could happen with pure magic. As l took it out I began to explain. Her eyes widened as l pulled it out. "When I was a colt; When I first learned light magic. I was messing around with the spells in my head when something very powerful happened. I came across a spell that only I can explain. When I tried this combination, I wasn't very powerful myself. I cast the spell, but when it got to hard to keep going, I tried to stop but couldn't. The magic was pulling it's way out of my, not by my control. It sucked so much out that I fainted. When I awoke, laying next to me, was this black hole of sorts. I went to touch it and it really, really hurt. Though my hand went through it. I felt nothingness. I took one of my practicing balls and dropped it in. It just bonced right off, not going through at all. I picked it up and tried shoving it in. This time, I only felt a little zap. It went through only when I was touching it. I dropped it and it dissapeared. When I thought that it was gone forever, I got sad. I wished that I had my ball back. Then magically, it was there. I have used it to carry my stuff for years. When I tried to throw it away. It came back. Until I figure out how it works, I can't throw it away." She sat with awe and interest as I talked on. " My tongue is hurting now. I'm going to take a little break and hear what you have to say."
"That's pretty amazing if you ask me. You could store as much as you could want. Could I try using it? Do you even know where it goes?" She is a good listener. I can't let her use it though. Unless.
I have an idea. "Well. I think it goes to a pocket dimension. A place between the cracks of the universe. Outside of our comprehension. I stuck my head in it once and I couldn't breathe. It was pretty scary. When I breathed out first, the air got stuck inside. Every now and then, I get a warm breeze coming out of it. Like I said before, I am the only thing that can go through it. So that means you can't go through it. With that said, if I touch anything I want to bring inside, that thing can go through. So if I hold onto your hoof while you go through, then you should be able to move freely if I let go. In theory." I have started rambling again. I should have just said 'No I don't know where it leads' and 'Sure, lets find out if you can go through it.' I hope that she doesn't mind. Her job is to collect information anyway. And so is mine. Huh.
I placed it on the floor and used my hoof to call her over. She walked to me slowly with a glow of astonishment.
"Now before we proceed, I must warn you that the hole can hurt on first contact. Maybe not for you because you are considered an item, but it will definitely hurt for me. With every good thing, there is a bad thing. What it does is, it steals all of the magic from my body in order to sustain itself while I pass through. give me one moment to get it ready." I explained before we began, then stuck my hoof straight through it.
A worried face struck her as I cringed in pain. It feels like you are taking the sould out of your body with a rusty old hook. It feels so painful that I could feel myself losing consiousness, again. same thing happens every time and I'm still not used to it. Suddenly, no pain. It has sucked everything out. no more magic for at least twenty minutes.
*huff* *huff* "Well. should be ready now. Give me your hoof." She was hesitant. She reached out and pulled back. I took my hoff out of the hole. "Go on. It wont bite for a while. neither will I."
She reaches out and allows me her hoof. I grab it above her hoof and slowy push it into the hole. When it goes through, both our faces light up with glee. Mine stayed but hers faded.
"I can't feel my hoof. It fells like its not even there." he pulls out of my grasp and out of the hole. I looked in surprise as she pulled out her hoof and it wasn't there. She looked down at it without the slightest bit of surprise.
"Does this happen often to you?" I asked seeming like a joke but partly serious. She looks up at me with out amusement.
"Put it back." She demands. Woah woah. You don't have to get all pushy.
"Give me one moment. Never done this before." I reached into the hole with the slightest little tickle. What came to mind was pillow. Took it and threw it behind us. Next was blanket. And finally twilight sparkles hoof. Of course, there it was. I pulled it out and grabbed twilights arm while sticking it on. Thankfully, it didn't fall off.
"Okay. Have a good night sleep." She says to me as she walks out of the room and turns out the light.
"Hey, wait." I call back but get no answer. Seemed pretty funny to me. I don't know what her problem is. I set up my little pillow and blanket bed.
Snug tight, I try to fall asleep. First day and still alive. Achievement get! Now I have to think about what to do tomorrow.
