The Aurora Boreallis

I appeared twenty miles from the coastline of Vanhoover over the Pacific ocean. I stretched my legs while suspended in the air. I was no longer flapping my wings.

I yawned once more, "...Need to finish, sleep after...." .

I shook my head and waved my hooves in the air. I could feel the power surging through my body. My eyes formed into slits as glowing white mist began swirling over the ocean where I was floating. More mist surrounded me as I generated energy from my body, into the air. I spread my arms apart and the mist slowly rose high into the night sky. I then clapped my hooves together. The mist compressed upwards into the air and disappeared.

"Ok, that's done.......now I'm really tired......" .

I thought to myself as I released my energy and relaxed, my eyes turned to normal. I apparated out of sight and back into Ponyville.

Using my wings again, I didn't see not a cloud in the sky.

"The Weather Patrol must have been on it today, I can't even find a single cumulus." .

I sighed and took a deep breath and blew into the air. A small cloud formed in front of me, big enough to fit five pegasi. I gently lowered myself on the cloud and curled up into a  ball. I rested my head and slowly closed my eyes,

"For a descendant of The Aurora Family, I'm really pathetic when it comes to mares..." .

I thought for one last time before sleep overtook me.

As I could feel the morning rays of the sun beam into my eyes, I heard small bits of excited conversation coming from all sides of me. I was starting to get annoyed. After five more minutes, I decided to finally see who was talking around me.

I slowly lifted my head and opened my eyes to see a large group of pegasi surrounding me.....what a surprise.

I slowly sat up on my haunches and stretch my wings and forearms. The pegasi gasped and backed away a little, but still kept watching me.

I looked around and thought to myself, "...where the hell did these ponies come from..." .

I finally looked up and saw a massive collection of cloud buildings and flowing rainbow waterfalls. I was sleeping right under Cloudsdale.

"....oh.....duh..." .

I spoke to myself as I stood up on all fours, preparing to address the ponies around me.

"Do not fear. It seems you guys have discovered me. How are you guys? I absolutely love this area of Equestria. I've watched you ponies everyday when you do your job at the Weather Factory, and let me say, you guys do a outstanding job on keeping the weather patterns in correct order. This is why I chose this place out of all locations on this planet to stay at. Now that I am here, I guess you guys can take a day off, just be ready to increase the humidity in the air soon, I've seen a Low Pressure off the West coast and its on its way here."

The ponies didn't seem to budge. Their faces were of complete shock of two things. One, they've actually seen the person who drives the atmosphere, and two, that same person just told them they can take the day off.

For about thirty long seconds, nopony seemed to have said anything, until a pony with crossed eyes, popped out of the crowd and shouted.

"No Work Day!!!!" .

It was at that moment that everypony responded and cheered. They all bowed to me.....ugh with the bowing.

"No need for the formaliti-..." .

Before I could finish, everypony left in a mix of cheers and gossip. My mouth hung open for a second, then I shook my head.

"I'll find a way to get them to stop that...." .

I left my cloud and flew into the Everfree Forest to find some water to drink from. As I flew deeper into the woods, I saw something scurry across the ground. I slowed down and land on the ground to investigate. As I walked to some bushes, I saw a lone cockatoo walking across the median. I lowered myself into the bushes and watched him closely.

It seemed to be noticing nothing........perfect.

I could feel the rumble in my stomach as I peered even closer to the creature. It was only a matter of time before the creature turned and caught the green slits of my eyes peeking out of the bushes. The cockatoo turned and started to fly away. Not gonna happen. I jumped out of the bushes and stood in front of the creature. I roared loudly, showing my teeth, ready to attack.

The cockatoo had a face of absolute terror. Too bad.

I lunged forward and knocked it down its back. It struggled and whimpered as I pinned its wings with my forelegs. I reared my head back and began to rip my way through his neck with my teeth. Blood immediately splattered everywhere. The creature stopped moving as I began tearing off chunks of meat off its body. After several minutes, I spat out some leftover blood and backed away. The mangled carcass of the cockatoo layed there, lifeless and completely torn open.

"The decomposers will finish it off...." .

I said to myself as I walked to a nearby watering hole and dipped my head in to wash my face. As I shook my head to dry off, I heard a rustle above the trees.

I quickly looked up. I saw nothing.

I shrugged it off. My mind began to wonder onto some other matter,

"...Maybe I should apologize to Celestia for blowing out like that yesterday..." .

I opened my wings and took off into the sky, banking East towards Canterlot.

Little did I know that the rustle in the trees was a familiar rainbow pegasus mare, that watched me the whole time I was in the forest.

I circled around the royal castle and slowly came to a landing at the front gate. All the ponies who were walking around gasped and scrambled back. Even the guards were surprised as they quickly bowed. I didn't care who was reacting, I needed to see the princess. I approached the guards in my most casual way possible,

"Do you mind if I see the princess for a sec sirs'?" .

The guards looked up in even more surprise.

"Uh...yes your supremeness." , one of the guards said as they lowered the gate. I gave then a smile,

"Don't worry. No formalities for me please, save that for your princess. And you can just call me Aurora, ok?" .

The guards looked at me as if this was some kind of test, but didn't press the matter any further.

"Yes your su-..I mean, Aurora. It is a pleasure to see you again." , The one guard said.

I nodded my head as I walked through the gate, "Thank you." .

My head was turning in all directions as I observed and walked around the royal hallways. I think I heard the term, "Sweet Celestia! He's Returned!" at least five hundred times from any wandering pony who happened to spot me. I needed to get that straightened out later. I turned the last corner as I found the door to Celestia's chambers. I gave a light knock. A muffled voice came through the door.

"Yesh, who ish it?" , was all I heard.

I answered, "It's me...Aurora." .

The next thing I heard was the shattering of a couple glasses and the sound of dropped silverware. A few seconds later, the door opened, revealing the princess.

"S-so nice to see you on such sudden notice your supre-...I mean, Aurora." .

I asked, "Was I interrupting something, princess?" .

Her eyes seemed to have widened as soon as I used the word "princess" .

She answered, "No no no I was just....eating.....some cake..." .

She moved to the side to reveal a broken plate and spilled cake on the floor.

I sheepishly responded, "Whoops.....sorry..." .

She reacted instantly, "Oh no no no don't worry, I'll have my waiter get that for me. You needed something Aurora?" .

I walked in her room and closed the door behind me. I sat down in front of her bed while she sat on it.

I first spoke.

"Last night, I told them..." .

She looked at me with concern.

"Are they giving you any trouble? I can fix that in a split second for y-..." .

I held my hoof up to her.

"It's not that. I mean, I told them a piece of what happened during the "ice age" and what caused it, from my perspective..." .

She had a look of utter confusion and curiosity on her face. I didn't even tell her what happened during that time either because it was that bad, but I had nothing to lose now. The story was already out.

After twenty minutes of re-telling what I had told the ponies at Sugarcube yesterday, I stopped to look up at her. There were tears on her face. Her mane stopped flowing. She was actually crying.

I tried to reassure her, "Please, you don't need to pity my mista-..." .

I was stopped as she embraced me in a tight hug. I felt her warmth and tears as her wings draped over me. I didn't hug her back. There was no reason to cry over something I clearly made as a foolish error, yet, I felt a tear escape from my eye.

She finally let go of me and looked into my eyes. She had an expression as if she lost something dear to her, and yet, in my eyes, a dead, glazed expression reflected back to her. No life what so ever.

I spoke, desperate to quickly change the topic.

"So how's the sun? I can't wait to welcome the heat for the Summer Sun Celebration." .

She immediately beamed. her mane went back to flowing again as she wiped the remaining tears in her eyes.

"Oh it's actually coming along wonderful! Got plenty of solar flares ready to give that summer feeling." , Celestia responded.

I wondered about something.

She's Daymare Sun. How come they fear me more than her? I mean seriously, when she's like that, she's.......damn......frightening.....even for me. I asked,

"Hey Celestia, when was the last time you ever turned into Daymare?" .

She seemed to frown and hesitated at the question, but responded.

"It's been a long, long time actually..........about the time when I had to banish my sister to be exact...".

Oh that's right. She had a sister. Princess Luna I think. She was given the duty to control the night and such.

Princess Celestia continued,

"It was that one fateful day. I'm not sure if you were here for that, but my sister wanted to put half of the entire world into darkness because she was angry of the fact that most ponies were active during the day, and slept right through her night without even noticing. That anger turned her into Nightmare Moon, which is a dark alternate form of herself." .

I thought to myself.

"....Nightmare Moon.....?.....Daymare Sun......wow ....they are related." .

She continued.

"One night , we got into a huge argument that could only be resolved by me turning into my alternate form as well. I had to make the hardest decision of my life, to banish my own sister for the sake of this planet. So I summoned my highest energy and blasted her off into the moon for 1,000 years." .

The gears clicked in my head as my mind went to the memory of that one day while I was in space and I saw that sparkle from the night side of the Earth, and then the sparkle shooting out past me and impacting the moon.

That was Nightmare Moon!

So that's what that unicorn, or, alicorn, imprinting on the moon meant. She got banished there......damn.....that's some tough sh*t.

"After those thousand years were up, she returned, more vengeful than ever. But with the help of a young and powerful unicorn by the name of Twilight Sparkle, she and her five other friends were able to reform Nightmare Moon back into Princess Luna and save Equestria. They are now known across the nation as The Elements of Harmony. My sister currently resides in this castle, taking control of the night. We rule as co-rulers of Equestria." .

I felt well informed on what was happened lately on the ground for the past one thousand years, but a question still rose in my head.

I asked her, "Why didn't you tell me about this? You wouldn't have had to ever banish your sister." .

She looked down with a frown on her face.

"We feared you at that time. May God forbid if you were to ever found out about what was going on, I feared that you've might've struck Luna dead with lightning at a moment's notice for threatening ponykind. So I suppressed the matter and made it quick and quiet by banishing her to the moon." .

I thought to myself.

"....what the hell was I doing at that time....oh yeah..........sleeping.........I'm such a lazy brute...." .

We both parted ways with a goodbye and a hug and took off from her balcony. I saw ponyvillie below me and decided to head there to meet Twilight to hang out, maybe check out a couple books on me to see how badly they've falsely wrote about me out of fear and observation. I looked to my left and saw Rainbow Dash flying in the distance. I yelled,

"Hey Rainbow!".

She looked at me with straight fear and flew away in a rainbow blur.

I stopped mid air.

"Was there something on my face?" .

I turned around full circle to see if there was anything on me.

Nothing.

I left the matter alone and flew down towards the center of Ponyville. I thought to myself,

"....Now what was all that about just now.......?"
