In the sky, two pegasi were flying around. The first is a pink pegasus with blue hair. The second is a blue-green pegasus with matching hair. As they laugh, they slid down a rainbow into a waterfall.

All the little ponies ran out of a pink castle, ready to play. A blank-flanked, lavender baby earth pony with pink hair watched them fly around, and decided to try it, too. She jumped into the air, but landed in the river, where a yellow earth pony with blue hair was washing her hair. The yellow Earth pony ended up soaked. The lavender baby pony just giggled.

A blue earth pony with pink hair in pigtails, as well as a white unicorn with red hair, were running to a cliff, and the two of them jumped off of it. A pink unicorn approached it, but was a little hesitant about jumping. She has white hair with a purple streak and 5 purple stars for her cutie mark.

As she was contemplating a way down, a voice behind her shouted, "Look out, Twilight! Here I goooooo!"

The voice behind Twilight was another white unicorn. She has purple hair with a blue streak like Twilight and has a purple shooting star for her cutie mark. She roller-skate towards Twilight as she jumped over her to prevent hurting her.

The blue pony dodged her before she landed. She had nearly landed on top of her!

"Now it's my turn!" the blank flank pony shouted, and she jumped right off Twilight's head.

She nearly hit the ground when the pink pegasus caught her.

"Awww!" she shouted, disappointed. "I could've made it!"

"So you can hurt yourself? Fat chance!" The pink pegasus said as she puts the baby pony down on the ground.

"I wish! I wish! I wish!" Twilight shouted, and she disappeared off the cliff, and reappeared right behind the blue pony.

The pegasi duo were flying along, and the baby pony was running beside them.

"I'm goin' for the double inside out loop!" The pink pegasus shouted.

"But it's dangerous, Firefly!" The blue-green pegasus warned. "You might get hurt!"

"Danger is my life, Medley!" Firefly shouted.

"Firefly! Look out!" Medley shouted.

Firefly plowed right into her, sending her into a dizzying spin.

Twilight's and the baby's hair and tails blew along with Firefly's gust of wind.

Unfortunately, Firefly was heading right for an orange pony, and a big basket of apples, and she couldn't move away in time.

CRASH!

Medley, Twilight, and the baby pony were practically rolling on the ground laughing. Firefly had the basket on her head, and both she and the orange pony were covered with applesauce.

"Applesauce anyone?" she asked.

"Sorry, Applejack." Firefly apologized, sheepishly. Medley flew over and took the basket off Firefly's head. The white unicorn came up to Applejack to see if everything was all right. Applejack shook the applesauce off her, and sprayed one of them with it. Then Applejack proceeded to lick it off.

Later, all the little ponies were taking it easy, and the baby pony was cuddling up next to Twilight. The two of them watched a butterfly flutter past.

"Twilight," she said. "Will I ever fly like Firefly and Medley?"

"No Ember," Twilight laughed gently. "Not all little ponies can fly. Besides, you have no wings."

"That's true." Ember said sadly. "But will I jump far like Bowtie? Or disappear like you can?"

"Oh Ember, one day you'll grow up to be your own special little pony. I promise."

Twilight nuzzled Ember. That was one of the happiest mornings of her life. But that won't last long though, for something bad is about to happen!

KRAKA-BOOM!

Everypony's heads immediately jerked in the direction of that sound, looking up at the sky as a vortex formed high above them with lightning shooting out of it. Suddenly, a large pony/dragon-like creature that was mostly obscured by some kind of black smoke (only the silhouettes of its mouth and purple eyes could be seen) pulled itself out through the vortex with a loud roar.

The ponies run for the pink castle, before the creature closes in on them.

In the outskirts of Ponyville, Twilight Sparkle is taking a walk. Today is a peaceful day, ideal for a picnic. But not just any day; it's... you'll find out if you read through.

All of a sudden, her companion Spike approaches her, nearly exhausted as he tries to catch his breath, while he was sweating.

"What is it Spike?" Twilight asked.

"Twilight, I'm so glad to see you!" Spike replied. "Come here, quick!" And then he runs off. Twilight follows him.

Soon, they approach the hill where the picnic takes place.

"What's the problem, Spike?" Twilight asked.

Spike nodded, "Well..." He gestured towards the bottom of the hill, and as Twilight looked...

"SURPRISE!" everypony shouted at the same time, followed by party poppers being shot off, as well as a blast of confetti from Pinkie's cannon.

Twilight looked down and saw, in addition to cupcakes and a variety of sweet stuff, there was a white birthday cake with pink frosting and a decoration that looks like her cutie mark on top, sitting on the picnic table, which all of her friends were standing around.

She grinned, "Aw, you guys." She then followed Spike down the hill towards the picnic table as everypony began to enjoy the birthday spread.

All of a sudden, Pinkie approaches her, talking very fast.

"OhImsoexcitedarentyouexcitedtwilightbecauseiamexcitedespeciallygummywholikespartiesveryveryverymuchaswellasbirthdaypartieshangingaroundwithyouguys!" She gasps and shouts so loud that windows can shatter. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TWILIGHT!!!"

"Calm down, sugarcube." Applejack said as she is picking her ears with her hooves, thanks to Pinkie's shouting. "You're more hyper than a jitterbug working in a sugar factory."

"Oh, look at the fanciful dresses I made for you! They're simply devine!" Rarity remarked to Twilight.

"Thanks," Twilight said with an expressionless tone. "Yippee." "At least it's gonna be more fun than my previous birthday back in Canterlot." she thought.

"Aren't you having fun, Twilight?" a voice calls to her.

The voice comes from her mentor, Princess Celestia.

"Princess!" shouted Twilight as she approached Celestia, Shining Armor, and Cadence. "I'm so glad to see you!" she continued with a pony hug to the three.

"Twiley! Glad you came!" welcomed Shining Armor.

"You're as energetic as usual," added Cadence.

"Of course I am, though I'm not this energetic, but today, I am! Who whouldn't want to miss my birthday especially when Princess Celestia has invited you with the help of my friends?" Twilight responded.

"I am always happy to see you and your friends, Twilight Sparkle," Celestia said in a calm voice. At the same time, Twilight's friends gave their respectful gesture to Celestia. "I hope you have been keeping up with your studies about the magic of friendship with your friends," she continued.

"Always have, Princess" Twilight answered.

"That's good, but let's not ponder about your studies. Now, let the party begin." Celestia spoke. "As long as Pinkie doesn't eat all the sweets." she thought.

Just then, Luna approaches, completing the group. "Princess Luna!" shouted Twilight waving her arms unceasingly to get Luna to come closer. Luna did just that, she approached the group, all covered in festive material.

Luna exclaimed in her royal voice as she focuses on Twilight and her friends. "Come Twilight Sparkle and friends, we shall have fun! Let us not waste any time and-"

Rumbling interrupted Luna speech. At that moment, everypony stopped partying, except Pinkie Pie who was still dancing. "What in tarnation is goin' on?" inquired Applejack in a shaky voice.

From the sky, a spacial hole tore open. "Look over there!" alerted Rainbow Dash as she pointed to the ominous purple-colored anomaly. Everypony focused their eyes on the portal. Fluttershy was shaking and whimpering; she covered her eyes from the sight.

Spike pointed up at the void as a creature surrounded by black smoke pulled itself out of the gateway it had created and exclaimed, "Twilight, look!"

Out came the creature moving in a serpentine manner.

Deeming this a threat, Shining Armor erected a barrier. Cadence used her magic to amplify Shining Armor's barrier, but the creature smashed through it as if it was made of paper.

"Oh no! The barrier!" shouted Shining Armor with a migrain. Cadence rushed over to comfort him.

"That thing just tore right through my brother's barrier?! What is this?!" asked Twilight in anxiety.

As it began to create portals that floated in the air, Spike asked, "What's it doing?"

All of a sudden, Fluttershy was caught up in the fierce wind that was being created by the creature's portals and was pulled towards one, despite Applejack and Pinkie's attempts to grab her. They soon followed after her, as did Rainbow Dash and Rarity screaming to Spike, "SPIKEY-WIKEY!" They were all pulled through different portals, each one closing around them.

Twilight ran towards the creature, ignoring the pull of the wind, and shouted, "Hey! That's not what happened on my birthday!" Twilight barrels straight toward the creature, her horn firing up as she goes, aiming for the creature's face. Unfortunately, it pulled its right arm in front of it and slapped her away, Twilight hitting the ground and bouncing back over the picnic table and over the fence, coming to a stop the grass between the fence and the lake.

As he lay on the ground, unmoving, Princess Celestia with Princess Luna were pulled into one of the three remaining portals and Shining Armor with Princess Cadence into another. Spike, as he struggled to hold onto the grass, looked up at Twilight and called, "Twilight… Help us…!" He then lost his grip and was pulled towards the last remaining portal, shouting, "TWIIIILIIIIIGHT!!"

Twilight tried to fight the haze clouding her head at her companions's shout, but was unable to do anything more than twitch a little as the last portal closed, blackness moving in and covering her vision...

Here's my first chapter. I hope you like it. By the way, if you weren't familiar with the beginning of the chapter, it was a word-for-word remake of the beginning to Rescue at Midnight Castle, the MLP 80's pilot, with additional dialogue.
