The Return of a Leader

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Firefly is making her way back to Dream Castle. On her back is a blonde-haired girl with blue eyes, blue overalls over a white shirt and pink shoes. The girl herself is wearing a pink bow in her hair.

Firefly spots Dream Castle on the horizon.

"Hold on to my mane," Firefly said to the girl, which she did as Firefly makes a landing at the front of the pink castle.

As the girl got off Firefly, a pink unicorn named Buttons approaches her.

"Firefly, you're back!" exclaimed Buttons. "And you brought Megan with you just in time."

"I had to make that decision," Megan said. "I trusted Danny to watch Molly for me."

"If you can come with me and sit along with the ponies, that would be great." Buttons said.

"It's okay," Megan said. "But I wouldn't."

"I understand," Buttons said. "You and Firefly, come inside."

Firefly and Megan head in.

The ponies inside Dream Castle are excited to see Megan again, unlike Modern Twilight, which she didn't see her.

"What in Equestria is going on?" Modern Twilight said.

"Now that Megan's here, the crisis meeting is about to begin," Gusty said who is standing next to her.

"Who's Megan?" Modern Twilight said.

"She always helps the little ponies when they're in trouble. Maybe she'll help us." Gusty said.

The lights dimmed. Buttons began speaking.

"As most of you already know, we are here today with Megan to discuss a terrible being that has been terrorizing much of Dream Valley. A monster known as…" she paused for dramatic effect, "A TIME EATER!"

"Time Eater?" Modern Twilight thought. "Is that the monster who terrorized this Dream Valley terrorized my birthday party?"

"The Time Eater is a creature, outside of Ponyland, gifted with the power to erase time and space!" cried Buttons, causing the ponies to worry.

"The horror!" a blue pony named Bow Tie cried. "Such a thing has never happened in Dream Valley since the Stratodon incident!"

"But don't worry," Buttons announced. "Megan will use the Rainbow of Light to defeat it! Nonetheless, it's our only hope."

"Rainbow of Light?" Modern Twilight thought.

However, that didn't help as more ponies begin to worry.

"What if the Rainbow doesn't work?" asked a pink pony named Lickety-Split.

"I suggest we panic!" cried a purple unicorn named Powder.

"We're in some pretty pony feathers now!" yelled a white unicorn named Moondancer. "If it attacks again, that's it! Game over! What are we supposed to do now, huh, what are we gonna do?" Moondancer then burst into tears.

"Megan," said Buttons, "If the Rainbow..."

"They're right," Megan interrupted. "Maybe the Moochick would tell us what to do."

"Hear that? The Moochick would know what to do!" Buttons announced, cheering up the ponies.

"But first," Megan announced. "Who will join me? I had Firefly and Sundance. That wasn't enough."

"Excuse me, Megan!" called Gusty from the crowd.

"Yes, Gusty?"

"My friend Twilight Sparkle would join you."

"As do I." said Medley, who is joining Firefly. "And I hope my friend Firefly is okay."

"Aw, horsefeathers!" said Firefly. "Danger's my life, remember?"

"I know that already," said Medley. "But--"

"Trust me."

Megan asked Gusty, "Would you introduce me to your friend?"

"Uh-huh," Gusty replied as she guides Modern Twilight towards Megan, ponies moving hurriedly aside to clear a path.

Face-to-face with the human, Modern Twilight was slightly speechless. Megan smiled kindly at them with enough sincerity to make Modern Twilight doubt her natural instincts. This human, whatever a 'human' was, may have been different but was surely benevolent.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Twilight Sparkle." Megan said sincerely, smiling.

Twilight was vaguely aware from the human's inflection that Megan was talking down to her, almost forgetting her pony friends. However, given the overall frivolous nature of the ponies she had seen, it was probably commonplace for the populace to be treated as a foal.

"My name is Megan Williams," the human said, though at this point her introduction was unnecessary. "I come from a far-away place. I hope you enjoy yourselves here, as well as Gusty."

Twilight's eyes fell upon a large, heart-shaped red locket affixed to the human's neck. Megan, following her gaze, laughed lightly. "Would you like to see the Rainbow of Light?"

Not waiting for a response, Megan opened the locket. A ribbonlike rainbow burst across the room, swirling about like a flag in the wind. The ponies oohed and aahed while it snaked across the air. Megan reopened the locket, and the rainbow disappeared into it.

"The rainbow is the most powerful magic in all of the land," Megan explained. "It can do anything from chasing off evil monsters to healing the most deadly wounds."

"But why would you have a rainbow do that?" Twilight said, unthinking.

A light murmur fell across the room. Megan's face scrunched up momentarily, then relaxed. "Perhaps in where you live, you do things a little differently. Here, everybody is protected by the Rainbow of Light. There is no need to worry about any danger, because there is nothing that I and the Rainbow cannot overcome. Are you saying that you're more powerful than the Rainbow of Light?"

Modern Twilight remembered herself and remained silent, although memories of a brash and boastful blue unicorn and large and scary baby starbear floated into her mind.

"It must be scary to live in a place like that! But here at Dream Valley, we are free and can do whatever we wish. I have fought hard for your freedom, and you should come with us to the Moochick!"

The room relaxed in a cacophony of conversation as the ponies began to cheer. Modern Twilight, Megan, Gusty, Firefly, Medley and Sundance left the castle. Megan climbed on Firefly's back and holds onto her mane.

"Hold on tight, Megan!" Firefly said as she took off. The ponies began to follow her. Medley is the only pegasus in Megan's group to fly, while the unicorns and Sundance had their hooves on the ground.

As the group heads for the Moochick, Classic Twilight, with Spike on her back, watches them.

"Could I please rest?" Spike complained, exhausted. "

You know, Twilight? As the princess' mentor, you do have a lot more energy than I can think o-- WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!"

Spike desperately hangs on to Classic's mane as she catches up to Megan and her group.

Along the way, all she can hear is Spike's shouting. "Twilight! Where are we going now?! I don't feel so good! TWILIGHT!!!!!"

Author's Note

That's a toughie chapter. Anyway, I'm so proud that I got three likes now. And I would like to thank the users at FIMFiction for favoriting. Anyway if you were new to the Brony community, we all know that Friendship is Magic won't exist without Generation 1, the cartoon series that started it all. BTW if you spot the Aliens reference, that would be nice. Anyway, enjoy and Happy 30th Anniversary!
