CHAOS NOW!
(A MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENSHIP IS MAGIC STORY)

CHAPTER 1
HOPE SURVIVES

A village scene.
The sound of rapidly flapping wings, drawing nearer.
The legs and torso of a Pegasus pony appears, moving from left to right.
A song begins to play.
More sounds of rapidly flapping wings. The legs of a second Pegasus pony flying by appears.
The following lyrics are heard just as several village houses explode into flames:

This is the end, beautiful friend
This is the end, my only friend
The end
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I’ll never look into your eyes again.

Can you picture what will be?
So limitless and free
Desperately in need of some stranger’s hand
In a desperate land

Lost in a royal wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain.

The dragon woke with a start. He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes as he realized that it was just the nightmare. It was the same nightmare he had been having for days, now! He was reliving the incident that started the war in the first place!

He was Karkovice Drake, Kark to his friends(or whatever friends he had left. The ongoing conflict had cost many lives!). He was the former Dragon Ambassador to Canterlot and Equestria. He was a ten foot tall or so bipedal red dragon, weighing approximately two tons, with two jet black horns protruding from the top of his head. The claws on his hands and feet, as well as his wing spines, were of the same colour. Those wings were twenty feet across, when they were fully outstretched. He had deep brown ponylike eyes that were quite distinctive.

He got up from his bed, and slowly walked towards his bedroom window. He squinted as the outside light came in as he opened the shutters to gaze outside. He became lost in his own thoughts.

Another gloomy day in Canterlot! How long have I been here? I’ve lost count! Ever since the war started, the days just seem to blur together.

It was an unexpected attack from the Diamond Dogs that started it all. They struck the outer colonies without warning, and steadily moved further into Equestrian territory. Soon after, the Griffons joined the fight; and the pony armies were quickly overrun.

The Dragon countries remained neutral, preferring not to jeopardize their economic relations with the Diamond Dogs and the Griffons. Had the Dragons sided with the Ponies, the Diamond Dogs and Griffons would’ve certainly launched an economic and trade embargo. There was too much at stake to risk that!

It wasn’t long before the combined Diamond Dog and Griffon armies reached the limits of Ponyville; and in one fell swoop, conquered the town. Canterlot would be next!

When they reached the gates of the palace, the offense was halted. They knew we were defeated! Princess Celestia went into exile before the invading armies’ generals could make her decree Canterlot’s surrender.

He went back to his bed and reached for a picture of Princess Luna that was on his nightstand.

When they captured and executed Princess Luna, it was as if my whole world had come to an end! Dear, sweet Luna! When she confessed her love for me, I knew it was an impossible love from the start. But we loved each other, through and through. How I miss you!

With tear filled eyes, he kissed Luna’s picture.

A few minutes later, he stood looking up at a smiling picture of Princess Celestia and her pet phoenix Philomena. It was said that a phoenix could help bring Luna back to life. But when Celestia went into exile, she took Philomena with her; and every hope I had of ever seeing Luna alive again at the same time.

A short time later, the invading armies withdrew, looting everything they could as they went, leaving Canterlot and Ponyville lying in ruins. Whatever ponies left alive were taken away as slaves, no doubt made to work the diamond mines in conquered Equestria, and in the Diamond Dog Fiefdom!

Because I was a member of a neutral party, they didn’t bother enslaving me. Had they known, though, that I did my part in helping the ponies fight this war, they would’ve surely killed me! Instead, they left me here, thinking that I would be heading back to my home country of Draconia.

Truth is, because of my involvement in the war, I was accused of treason by my home country’s government. Not wanting to stand trial for my “crimes”, I chose not to return to Draconia. Canterlot was my home now! It was a prison of my own making!

A short time later, Kark returned to his bedroom with a large bowl of heated oatmeal. He had gone down to the palace kitchen to make himself this sustenance dish, like he had done many times before. There was enough food left in the palace to last me a long time, if I rationed it properly. Sitting down on the bed, he started slowly eating it. He had sweetened it just enough with maple syrup and a sliced banana. Kark, being omnivorous, could definitely stomach something like this. The sweet stuff he put in it made it somewhat pleasurable to eat.

Every minute I stay in this room, I get weaker; while “Doggy” squats in the bush, getting stronger. He sighed.

A short time after, Kark was lying back in the bed, with his hands tucked behind his head, staring up at the ceiling. All hope seemed lost! Until that one fateful day, when hope unexpectantly rose again, seemingly out of the blue.

“Hellooo-oooooo! Anybody home!?” came a female voice from down the hall.

This made Kark jump up. The voice sounded very familiar to him, but he couldn’t be sure. “Down here!” he called from his place on the bed.

The galloping footfalls drawing nearer told him that whoever called out was a pony. The bedroom door creaked open to reveal the head and neck of a pony he was well acquainted with.

“Kark!” she exclaimed.

“Rainbow Dash!” Kark cried out in joy.

The female pony pushed the door fully open and made a galloping leap in the air as she took flight. Kark immediately jumped off the bed and ran towards her.

Rainbow Dash slammed into him as Kark wrapped his arms tightly around her. “I never thought I’d find you here!” Rainbow Dash sobbed, her eyes wet with tears of joy.

“And I thought I’d never see you again, you crazy trickster!” Kark said, his eyes also wet from overwhelming joy.

They stayed like this for a few more moments, comforting each other. “Why’d you come here?” Kark asked as he finally lay Rainbow Dash down on the floor.

“Big Macintosh sent me here to find you!” she said in answer. “There’s been some progress in our fight to reclaim Equestria.”

Rainbow Dash was wearing a Royal Guard uniform, thus identifying her as a member of the fighting infantry in the Pony Armies.

“What sort of progress?” Kark asked.

“Well, for one thing, we’ve reconquered this whole territory, including Ponyville.”

“Did the Diamond Dogs and the Griffons put up a fight?”

“That’s just it! When we arrived here, there wasn’t a Doggy or Griff to be seen. It looked like they pulled out a long time ago.”

“Why?”

Rainbow Dash shrugged. “I think this area is not strategically valuable to them. Doggy only wants the areas in Equestria that have diamond mines.”

“What about the Griffs?”

“Well, since they’re working for the Diamond Dogs, they do what they say; which is essentially protecting their interests. In return, they get a fair share of the profits from the resale of the diamonds.”

“That’s collected off of the back of ponies, who are the slaves in this whole picture!” Kark said in disgust.

“Pretty much.”

“Come on!” Rainbow Dash continued. “Time’s a wastin’! My orders are to get you to Base Camp ASAP.”

“How far is it from here?”

Rainbow Dash pondered. “It’s about twenty klops outside of Ponyville. We thought about establishing Base Camp in Ponyville, but there nothing left there but rubble and rats.”

“If it’s twenty klicks outside of Ponyville, that means it’s pretty far from here. It’ll take us awhile to get there on foot.”

Rainbow Dash smiled. “No need! The No Fly Zone’s been lifted in this area.”

Kark’s expression brightened. “It has?”

“You can thank Twilight Sparkle later!”

“Twilight! She’s still alive!?”

“Alive and kicking!” She made the motion with one of her hind legs.

“Awesome!” Kark exclaimed.

“Let’s go!” Rainbow Dash ordered as she made her way out onto the balcony.

Kark followed her from behind. Both simultaneously took to the air. He was exhilarated! It felt good to fly again! I can’t remember the last time I actually flew. Soon after this area was conquered, Doggy sent in their magi to cast a No Flying spell, thus creating the “No Fly Zone”. No pegasi or other flying creatures could fly more than a few feet off the ground, except for Griffs. Good old dependable Twilight Sparkle fixed that! I’ve never seen a unicorn as gifted as her in the art of spellcasting! I’m sure Rainbow Dash appreciates this as well.

“YAHOOOOO!” Rainbow Dash cried out as she spun in mid flight. Kark couldn’t help but laugh at the playful Pegasus mare.
