Prologue: Over the years

In Canterlot the streets were busy with life as the ponies and humans rushed down the streets to get to their various jobs and meet ups. In a small school, not too far off, the bell rang signalling the days end allowing all the children and foals to flee from their educational prison and happily run home. One boy in particular walked out into the air and took a deep breath before letting it out in a relieved sigh. He was the age of ten and had Ice blue eyes along with coal black hair. The black circle that was upon his palms and the tops of his hands were a sign that he was from a family of Mages.
He adjusted the bag on his back before he began walking home to finish up his homework and actually have time to himself. He turned to go down a less crowded street that was quieter than the busy main street of Canterlot, along with it going straight to the living district of Canterlot. As he walked down the cobblestone road, he heard a rather peculiar flapping noise from above him.
“Never seen one of you take my path.” A feminine voice said haughtily as a young skinny girl landed in front of him. She looked to be about nine with jeans and a purple shirt, which had slits in the back so she could open and close her snow white wings, her eyes were brown and her long straight hair was brunette.
“What do you mean ‘One of you’?” The boy asked with a raised eyebrow as he looked at the girl.
“I mean a mage.” The girl said. “Why don't you just use your all powerful magic and teleport home?” The girl made air quotes when she said ‘all powerful’ and smiled. The boy just let out a quiet snort before shaking his head.
“Because I can’t teleport. That is for advanced mages. Why do you ask?” The boy said as he began to walk again.
“Because, I can ask whatever I want.” The girl said, getting in the boys way.
“Oh come on, don’t do this. I’m tired enough from going to school, I don’t need this too.” The boy groaned as he rubbed his eyes.
“Here I thought mages never got tired.” The girl remarked as she opened her wings and flew a few feet in the air to be above the boy.
“You try doing the same spell in a continuous stream and see how long you can keep it up.” The boy snarled as he began to walk again. “Oh wait! You can’t!”
“Why would I want to be a person who ruins the earth with their magic? It’s better to fly, but I bet that you would be afraid of heights anyway.” The girl said haughtily.
“Yeah, and I bet you are afraid of being stuck on the ground, am I right?” The boy said as he turned and looked at the girl.
“No, I have been stuck on the ground a few times, not bad, but the open air is much better.” The girl said dreamily.
“Good for you... I am leaving. See ya.” The boy said waving a hand in the air before turning and going on his way.
“Goodbye, enjoy getting wet.” The girl said laughing before she flew quickly by him, making his hair get windswept.
“.... Now I know why dad says to keep away from angels...” The boy said as he used a hand to fix his hair before he continued walking, until he got soaked by a raincloud that the girl had put over him. He blinked and wiped his eyes to clear the water, before glaring upwards to see the girl laughing from atop the cloud. He shook his head before he thought for a moment. His hand lit up with a blue glow before he looked up and tugged out one of her secondary feathers and caught it as it fluttered down.
“Hey!” The girl said confused as she looked down at him. He smiled wryly and waved the feather in his hand at her.
“Need a quill?” He asked snickering.
“No I don’t. My parents seem to be wrong about some mages, you seem alright.” The girl said, flying down carefully to stand in front of him, “I’m Wind Song.”
“Mellow Flow. Nice to meet you.” Mellow said holding out his hand before he saw Wind hesitate. “Oh come on, I am not going to melt your hand or whatever you have been told.”
“You can never be sure.” Wind joked as she returned the gesture.
“Well, it’s been nice. But I have to go. See you around.” Mellow chuckled out as he turned and walked the rest of the way home.
“See ya. Maybe mom and dad were wrong...” Wind muttered as she flew up to her cloud home.

It had been around fours years since the little encounter Mellow and Wind had with each other. Today was going to be another meet up, but in the worst of ways.
“Come on, Son. We need to get these parts if we are going to get that damned contraption to work.” Mellow’s father said in his usual gruff tone. Mellow only nodded as he was bored out of his mind. He looked around the shopping district while his father bartered with the pony at the stand. The area was filled with unicorns, pegasi, mages, angels, earth ponies and normal humans. He sighed and shook his head at how the three species of humans mostly kept their distance from each other.
“Come on sweetie, lets get what we came for so we can leave.” A light female voice said as it got closer to Mellow and his father. Mellow looked towards the voice to see a female adult angel flying over with a teenaged angel beside her to the stand he and his father were currently in and felt a sudden feeling of dread as he knew what was going to happen next. Yelling, verbal abuse, and plenty of insults. The female angel cut in front of his father, who was almost done with his bartering, and started talking to the pony in the stall while the girl stayed a few feet behind her, looking unhappy with her head lowered and her hair over her face.
“Just what do you think you are doing featherbrain!?” Mellow’s father yelled as he groaned and facepalmed.
“Oh, I’m sorry I didnt notice you.” The woman said absently, not turning around. Mellow’s father growled for a brief moment before speaking up again.
“Then why don’t you go to the back of the line and wait like everyone else?” He said grinding his teeth slightly.
“Because I am already here and we don’t have time to wait for a mage to finish with his little magic act.” The woman said as she turned around. Mellow hissed slightly as he backed away from his now fuming father and accidently bumped into someone. He turned around to see the girl that was here with her mother, whom was aggravating his father, and he smiled sheepishly.
“Eh heh, sorry.” He said, nervous of another small fight.
“Its fine, my mom seems to like doing this with mages.” The girl said, looking up as she landed and parted her hair, she looked at him quizzically for a second before asking, “Do I know you?”
Mellow blinked for a moment, confused before his eyes widened with realization. “Wind Song?!” He whispered astonished.
“Sadly... Wait.” Wind said before she realized who she was talking to and smiled. “Hey, your that Mellow dude!”
“Easy!” Mellow said before looking back at the arguing parents. “I don’t think this is a good spot to catch up. Wanna go somewhere more... Calm?”
“I was going to do that anyway, I hate when she fights with others.” Wind said shrugging. Mellow nodded and gestured for her to follow as he walked away from the stand and to a less populated area of the market. They stopped and sat atop the wall that overlooked most of the district before Mellow sighed and leaned his head back.
“So how have you been?” He asked as he looked at Wind.
“I’ve been good, if you count ‘having your parents try and brainwash you into hating every other race and make me try to believe that god sent us here and we are the best race’, good.” Wind sighed.
“Nice... I guess you could say the same, ‘cept scratch the ‘Sent by god’ part. Plus all those rouge bands of normals roaming the streets doesn’t help at night.” Mellow said as he pinched the bridge of his nose. “What have you been up to... Other than the brainwashing that is..”
“Looking for a way to leave my racist parents.” Wind said.
“Heh, join the club. If only I was like those other advanced kids, I could just snap my fingers-” He said snapping his fingers to try and emphasise his point, but instead accidentally had a apple land in his hand. “... Yeah that. Want an apple?”
“Not exactly advanced, but at least you got something going for you,” Wind said laughing, “and yes, I would like an apple, I'm kinda hungry.”
“Oh yeah, I got something going for me alright.” Mellow joked as he handed her the apple. “Watch the great magician create apples! Almost the same save for the tangy aftertaste!”
“You’re just the same as before, still funny.” Wind said laughing as she bit into the apple.
“Thanks, but really, that is going to taste like a orange after you finish it.” Mellow chuckled.
“I like oranges.” Wind said as she chewed. Mellow just laughed as he looked over the city and shook his head.
“How come we get along just fine and the grown ups act like kids?” Mellow sighed as he rested his elbows on his knees.
“I think its because their parents brainwashed them into thinking they were better than the others and we met each other before the same thing could happen to us.” Wind suggested.
“Yeah and the ponies settled their differences what, a millenia ago?” Mellow said throwing his hands in the air in exasperation.
“I borrowed a book from a library, I learned that we were around during that time, and while the ponies settled their differences, we never did and continued being who we are now.” Wind said, not at all sorry about taking a book.
“Yeah, the only difference between now and then is we aren’t killing each other.” Mellow groaned. “And that is barely holding together.”
“Yep...” Wind said as she finished the apple and put the apple core on the floor. They talked a little bit longer and made jokes here and there before Mellow heard his father calling for him.
“Crap... Welp, see you later Wind. Let’s try to meet up again.” Mellow said as he hopped off the wall.
“Yep see ya, and Mellow?” Wind said.
“Yeah?” He replied looking back up at her.
“The apple didn't taste like an orange, it still tasted like an apple.” Wind said smiling as she flew to her mother.
“Huh.... Guess that book really did help.” Mellow said as he walked back to the sound of his father’s shouting. From then on the Angel and the Mage both continued to see each other, without their parents knowing of course lest they incur their wrath, where they first met each other on the cobblestone road.

Two years had passed since the incident with Mellow’s Father and Wind’s mother. Mellow walked away from his school, an old and used backpack on his back. He was wearing a grey zip up hoodie with a Yellow T shirt underneath and blue jeans. He smiled as he saw not a single cloud in the sky. He stopped as he found himself on the old road he used long ago before shaking his head and chuckling.
“That cloud trick isn’t going to work twice, Windy!” Mellow said looking up to see a grey cloud.
“It was worth a shot.” She said as she flew down to the road. She was wearing sky blue shorts and a bright red shirt.
“Maybe on a day it wasn’t a clear sky, then yeah.” Mellow said chuckling before he began to walk towards a dirt road that branched off from the main road next to Wind’s home. “Shall we?”
“Sure, beats going back home to more ‘Schooling’.” Wind said shrugging.
“I’d imagine so.” Mellow laughed before he began to run down the road. “Race ya!”
“Your on!” Wind said as she opened her wings and flew by him, laughing as the wind messed with Mellows hair.
“Hey! Wings are cheating!” Mellow laughed as he ran.
“You never said that as a rule!” Wind shouted, circling back and landing, before running quickly after Mellow.
“Yeah, well, now it is!” Mellow laughed again before he continued sprinting. The duo continued running until they arrived at a small rundown abandoned shack and leaned against it. “I still don’t understand, why we can’t just eat at a cafe or something.” He said panting slightly.
“Because some cafe’s don't like angels, and some cafe’s don't like mages, we can't go to the same cafe.” Wind said sadly.
“Oh right...” Mellow said as he shook his head and opened the door to the shack before walking in and leaning against the walls as he let out a relieved sigh as the shade cooled them down.
“So, have you found a place yet?” Wind asked. Mellow slid down the wall and sat on the floor before running his hands through his hair.
“Somewhat yes. But we are going to need to get some jobs if we are going to pay the rent.” Mellow said smiling.
“The rent won't really be a problem for me.” Wind said.
“Well good for you, but I still need a job. I am no freeloader.” Mellow said as he leaned his head back. “Sad thing is, not too many places to get decent, well paying jobs.”
“You think I’m a freeloader?” Wind asked, hurt, as she looked at Mellow.
“No no, I just meant I don’t want to mooch off you!” Mellow said quickly.
“Ok.” Wind said as she walked around the room.
“Oh and one more thing, we are gonna have to share the house.” Mellow said as he stood up and looked out the window.
“That’s fine with me, who are we sharing it with? A pegasus, unicorn, earth pony?” Wind asked.
“Unicorn. This purple and weird one too. All consumed in her books... And don’t you dare say I am the same!” Mellow joked as he pointed a finger at Wind.
“Awwww...” Wind said pouting.
“... Fine, make your joke.” Mellow sighed as he facepalmed.
“The moment is gone now.” Wind said laughing.
“Great, now I will never know my humiliation! OH THE TRAGEDY!” Mellow said dramatically throwing an arm over his eyes.
“You’re the same except with a sense of humor.” Wind said smiling.
“Oh son of a...” Mellow said before facepalming again. “Happy?”
“You walked into that one.” Wind said.
“Yeah, that is true.” Mellow laughed as he looked out the window to see the castle. “Ever wonder why Celestia doesn’t just step in and ask why the hell we are all so angry at each other?”
“No I don't, but I guess it might be because all the ponies have already tried, and its no use for her to try. She might be a princess, but the adults strongly believe what they were told is right.” Wind said.
“Pfft, like they are going to stand against the word of a being that moves the sun...” Mellow said rolling his eyes.
“My mom has openly said that she doesn’t move the sun, that she fakes it so she will be a princess.” Wind admitted.
“Yeah and I am a flying blue dragon with pigeon wings.” Mellow said chuckling.
“That wouldn't work well unless you’re super skinny, otherwise you wouldn't be able to fly.” Wind said.
“Would be funny to see though.” Mellow snickered.
“Yes it would.” Wind agreed, smiling. Mellow just sighed and rolled his neck before stiffening up as he heard several cracks emanate and then relaxed again.
“Well, I guess easiest thing to do now, is search for help wanted posters.” Mellow sighed out as he looked outside again.
“I think the first thing we need to do is find a way to leave and get to the house.” Wind said.
“Well that’s easy. Here, I will show you.” Mellow said smiling as he walked out the door with Wind behind and looked around before walking back towards the cobblestone road.
“Whatever you say.” Wind said with a mischievous smirk as she followed him. They continued on their walk until they found the road again and Mellow stopped before furrowing his brow.
“Oh damn it...” He muttered as he looked at the roads. “I totally forgot where to go from here...”
“Hmmm, are you afraid of heights?” Wind asked, never losing her mischievous look.
“Not necessarily... Okay a little bit.” Mellow said sheepishly.
“Well my parents were right about mages being afraid of heights.” Wind said as she slowly opened her wings as she walked behind Mellow.
“Why am I getting a sense of on coming terror.” Mellow said.
“Because you have good instincts.” Wind said as she grabbed hold of Mellow’s arms and flew into the air, flapping her wings hard to compensate for the extra weight.
“Holy shit!” Mellow screeched as he clung to Wind’s arms. “What the hell Windy?!”
“You didn’t remember, so it was time for a birds eye view!” Wind said happily as she flew over the paths. Mellow just trembled slightly as he looked down. “Fortunately, I count as a bird.”
“Lovely! Now, ground again please!” Mellow said as he was debating whether to clutch his eyes tightly to avoid puking with fear or simply get this over with as soon as possible.
“Do you remember the way?” Wind asked as she stopped and hovered.
“Kinda hard to remember when I am fearing for my life!” Mellow said looking up at her.
“You do know that you're ten feet off the ground, that isn't very high.” Wind said frowning.
“Ten feet is too many!” Mellow whined.
“Alright, I’ll put you down.” Wind sighed as she flew to the ground and set Mellow down as she landed. He shakily stood for a moment before he sighed and shivered once more to get the feeling of goosebumps out of his system.
“Pleeeease, don’t ever do that again.” Mellow said looking at Wind.
“Seems like more of a phobia then a fear right now.” Wind said.
“I was referring to the surprise lift off...” Mellow said shaking his head. “I don’t care about flying, you just scared the hell outta me.”
“Alright, I won’t surprise fly you again.” Wind promised.
“Thank you... Now if you really want to help me remember, could you fly up and tell me where Haybale lane is?” Mellow asked as he reached into his backpack and pulled out a small book.
“Sure.” Wind said, before she reopened her wings and took off, looking at the roads and the signposts before returning to Mellow, “Its the middle path.” She said, pointing.
“Thanks, now let’s go!” Mellow said as he gestured for her to follow and he began to walk. The duo walked around the city, getting a few stares here and there from the other humans, before they arrived at a large home. “This is it. Onyx Street, Two-Five-Eight-Zero.”
“Nice house.” Wind said.
“Indeed. Still surprising she is renting out rooms. You’d think she wouldn’t need the extra income.” Mellow said as he walked up to the door with Wind.
“Well... you said she is super into studying, maybe she needs the money for a lot more books?” Wind suggested as she knocked on the door.
“Probably. And that is what I call obsession.” Mellow said as the door opened up to show a small purple unicorn standing in the doorway.
“Hello, Mellow, I am assuming this is your friend Wind Song?” The unicorn asked smiling.
“Yup. She was curious about where we are going to be staying, so I thought I’d show her. Wind, this is Twilight Sparkle.” Mellow said gesturing to the Unicorn.
“Hello.” Wind said waving at the pony.
“Its nice to see at least a few humans are friends with each other, regardless of their race.” Twilight said.
“Tell me about...” Mellow muttered. “Anyway, may we come in?”
“Of course.” Twilight said, moving away from the door to let them in. Mellow gave a nod of thanks before walking in and looking around, smiling happily.
“Nice to be out of the hot sun and into the cool air of a home huh?” Mellow said to no one in particular.
“Yes.” Wind said as she walked in.
“So where is Spike, Ms. Sparkle?” Mellow said as he looked at Twilight. “Don’t tell me he is out on his own for once.”
“No, he isn't, he is upstairs putting some of my new books into the library.” Twilight said, “and you can just call me Twilight.”
“Alright. Well may I show Wind up to the spare rooms?” Mellow asked smiling.
“You may.” Twilight said. Mellow nodded again before heading towards the steps and waving for Wind to follow. Wind opened her wings and flew after Mellow. He stepped up onto the second floor and walked over down a hallway before three doors where on the walls. Two on the left and one on the right.
“Okay, so these two are the rooms we are getting, and that one on the right is Twilight’s.” Mellow said as he walked over next to a door. “And you can pick which one you want I guess since they are both the same practically.”
“Ok, I guess I'll have this one.” Wind said, going to the door furthest to the left. Mellow just shrugged before following.
“Okay, they both have a bed, dresser, and a closet. And a desk if you need it.” Mellow said.
“That’s already better than my room at home.” Wind said. Mellow only shrugged again before walking back towards the staircase.
“Now you can move in anytime you’d like, but I am going out job hunting.” Mellow said chuckling.
“Have fun.” Wind said waving as she opened the door to the room.
“Oh I am going to have a riot of a time! A riot I tell you!” Mellow shouted back in mock seriousness.
“Good luck with that.” Wind said, poking her head outside the bedroom door to look at Mellow.
“Yeah yeah, I will be at the help wanted poster board if you need me.” Mellow said as he walked down the stairs and walked out the door. With that Wind and Twilight went on with their days knowing that things were going to get better for them. Hopefully.

Chapter one: A Day in the Life
Written by: Penbrush and Slayerbrony!
A week has past since the duo found their new living space. Mellow had found a job working at a local cafe and had gotten a decent income for his rent while Wind had made a bet with Twilight that she could read all of Twilight's Library’s books in the span of two weeks, she was halfway through. It was night now and they were all in the house.
“I’m going to get your bits Twilight!” Wind yelled from the living room as she lied on a couch.
“I’d make sure you double check for series!” Twilight said chuckling. Mellow just rolled his eyes as he walked in and sat down in a plush chair.
“I have!! I have already read all the series books you have in the house.” Wind said.
“Why are you two doing this again?” Mellow asked as he picked up a small bowl of nuts and began to snack on them.
“To show that I can read all of them.” Wind replied, looking back to the book.
“And this will accomplish... What?” Mellow asked
“Learning how to read faster and stuff. I don't know.” Wind said shaking her head.
“Your head is going to split open when you are done.” Mellow said chuckling and shaking his head.
“I have been meaning to ask...” Twilight said as she walked into the living room of her home. “What is your guys plan?”
“We don't have one, all I know is my parents wont be looking for me, since angel parents think when their kids are gone without saying anything, they think God took them back or something stupid like that.” Wind shrugged.
“My dad and mom just don’t care. I literally told them all everything, and they ignored it.” Mellow said shrugging.
“They probably didn't believe you, and besides, you're seventeen, you can leave whenever you want.” Wind said as she sat up and leaned back on the couch to read.
“Be that as it may, I still think I should be a little cautious for the next week or so. I don’t know about Angels, but Mages are sometimes very protective.” Mellow said as he leaned back in his seat.
“Angels are protective, but when a kid disappears, they don't think anything bad happens...this is interesting.” Wind said as she read the book.
“That sounds very flawed...” Twilight said as she rubbed her chin with a hoof.
“What do you expect when a race thinks they are from god? Anyway, this book, ‘Human mythology through the ages’, seems like a silly name for a book but anyway, it says here that there used to be two alicorn humans, but they ran away for reasons unknown.” Wind said, getting up from the couch and over to Mellow to show him the page.
“...Huh... Word for word too. What’s that about?” Mellow said.
“I have wondered that too. I even asked Princess Celestia about that, she didn’t have anything on it.” Twilight said scratching her head.
“Who made this book?” Wind said, closing the book to look at the name on the front cover, “Clover the Clever, that pony from Hearths Warming Eve?” Wind wondered.
“Yes! Humans actually were with the corresponding pony back then. Angels with Pegasi, Mages with Unicorns, and normals with earth ponies.” Twilight said smiling.
“We knew we went back to that time, but we didn't know that.” Wind said, turning back to the page.
“Oh yes, when the ponies of our history found the humans, each race found the same. So Unicorns found mages, Pegasi found Angels, and Earth found Normals, Although they didn’t get caught up in any of the wars between the humans.” Twilight said grimacing.
“Yeah, Humans never were a peaceful bunch. Still aren’t in some areas.” Mellow said.
“At least we stopped killing each other, like...a few years ago?” Wind asked.
“Thirty years.” Mellow said. “At the end of that big civil war. Or what the press called it ‘Big Civil dispute’. Yeah people killing each other is a simple dispute.”
“Maybe it is for people who didn't see it.” Wind suggested.
“That may be, but it’s still sickening no one acknowledged it.” Mellow said.
“Well, it’s all in the past. There is no need to worry about that anymore.” Twilight said smiling.
“Apparently Mellow still has to worry about rogue normals.” Wind said, looking back to the book.
“Only when they are in big groups. I can handle myself thank you.” Mellow said.
“So, Clover met some alicorn humans or she heard a rumor about them.” Wind said, reading.
“That is the prevailing opinion. Although some theorize that they either never existed in the first place, or left because they knew of the future conflict that would arise.” Twilight said as she walked over and hopped onto the couch.
“If they knew about the future, if they are real, then why didn’t they try and stop it?” Wind said as she went back to the couch and sat next to Twilight.
“Well I would assume they knew nothing would have worked, or they simply wanted the human race to learn on its own.” Twilight said shrugging.
“They obviously didn’t take into account how stubborn humans can be.” Mellow said grimly.
“Considering they were humans, they could have just been oblivious to everything.” Wind muttered.
“Well, maybe I can find another book on this. one moment.” Twilight said as she began to search before she turned towards the stairs and shouted. “Spiiike!”
“What Twilight!” Spike yelled as he walked into the living room.
“Do you know where the other book on Human mythology went? I can’t find it.” Twilight said as she searched another shelf.
“Not everything is going to be in the living room, the rest are in the library room, under ‘H’” Spike said.
“Oh.. Right.” Twilight said chuckling sheepishly before she walked out of the room and towards the library.
“How do you like it here?” Spike asked, looking at Mellow and Wind.
“It’s nice.” Wind said.
“Better than living with my mom and dad, that’s for sure.” Mellow chuckled.
“That is very true.” Wind said smiling.
“That’s awesome.” Spike said before looking at Wind, “What’s it like to fly?” He asked.
“It’s...a rush, its fun to feel the wind go through your hair and your feathers and you feel so alive when you look down and see everything below you.” Wind explained.
“That sounds amazing.” Spike said.
“Sounds like skydiving.” Mellow said as he looked at the shelves of books.
“Only your not plummeting where the only thing that is there to save you is a paper parachute.” Wind replied.
“That is true. You know that there is three times this amount of books in the library right?” Mellow said looking at Wind.
“Where do you think I went to get the series books?” Wind asked.
“Just saying. Lots more.” Mellow said shrugging as he put the bowl down and got up before stretching. He muttered a ‘Ow’ as he heard several snaps and pops come from his shoulders and elbows.
“You know the worst thing about having wings?” Wind asked.
“Hmm?” Mellow hummed.
“You have to preen them so they will stay the right way and work correctly.” Wind sighed as she opened her wings and looked at the loose feathers.
“Huh... I guess that is worse than mental exercises.” Mellow said shrugging.
“Can you help me?” Wind asked.
“Um... How?” Mellow asked tilting his head.
“Use your magic to take them out I guess.” Wind said.
“Really? You asking the guy who makes an apple when he wants to teleport, to preen your wings with magic?” Mellow deadpanned.
“It probably isn't as hard as teleporting.” Wind said.
“You’d think that. But grabbing every loose feather then pulling them out is a lot harder than it looks.” Mellow said.
“Its very hard to take them out without magic, takes me a few hours, and it annoys me, could be doing something more productive than taking feathers out.” Wind said.
“Fine...” Mellow said rolling his eyes. “Don’t they have brushes or something for preening?”
“Only for pegasi.” Wind said.
“Couldn’t it work the same?” Mellow asked as he walked over.
“Angels have bigger and thicker feathers than pegasi, so it wouldn't work.” Wind said as she kept her wings extended. Mellow just shrugged before his hands lit up in their normal bright blue glow. He looked over the wings and coated several loose feathers on her left wing before tugging them all out in a small clump.
“That hurt too much?” Mellow asked as he threw the feathers into the trashcan he magicked into existence.
“No...” Wind said.
“Alright... Bigger clumps then.” Mellow said as he kept up his job of magicking away larger and larger clumps of feathers. “Jeez, how many loose feathers do you have?”
“Why do you think it takes me hours to preen?” Wind asked as she watched. Mellow just rolled his eyes again before he looked at a clump of feathers and plucked out several ones that were still somewhat stiff. He grabbed some string from a drawer and tied them all together making a small bracelet.
“Haha! You want this?” He asked as he levitate the small bracelet to Wind while he resumed the magical preening.
“It looks cool, sure.” Wind said shrugging as she took the bracelet. Mellow just continued on his job while Twilight came back.
“I found the book!” Twilight said happily as she trotted in with the open book in her magic.
“Really?” Wind asked, turning to look at Twilight. Mellow accidently kept up his preening, but accidently pulled out a much larger feather than the rest he had been getting. “FUCK ow!” Wind yelled as a primary feather got pulled out.
“Oops...” Mellow said sheepishly as he held the large feather. “Heh heh... You got a nice quill now though.”
“A nice primary feather quill that hurt like tartarus.” Wind said as she looked at her wing.
“Then you shouldn’t have moved! I told you this was hard enough.” Mellow said as he handed her the feather.
“Thanks, so Twilight, what does it say?” Wind said as she took the feather and brought her attention back to twilight, who was standing next to Spike by the couch.
“Well, it didn’t give much, but it did say there were several, if not hundreds, of sightings of a winged mage. Though it says that it was most likely just a defect from an Angel and Mage couple.” Twilight said shrugging.
“Those couples are sort of rare, considering the hatred between everyone.” Wind said.
“Rare? Try near impossible. Like one out of every millions of couples.” Mellow said as he finished her left wing. “There... And you do this every time you need to preen?”
“Yes, otherwise I might pull out a feather that isn’t loose and hurt myself, and might I add, my wing feels like it is on fire.” Wind said.
“You want me to try and numb it?” Mellow groaned.
“If you can.” Wind said nodding.
“Okay.... One moment.” Mellow said as he looked at the wing before his hand glowed again and he placed it over the area he plucked the primary. “Feeling any better?”
“Yes, it feels nice now.” Wind sighed as a cool feeling went through her wing where the pain was.
“Alright then. Now, I am just going to finish up and then I will get a bag of ice for your wing.” Mellow said as he went back to plucking loose feathers. This carried on until there was simply a pile of feathers where the trash can used to be. “... You should really just preen more often.”
“I would rather not preen every time I feel a feather out of place.” Wind replied.
“Well how often do you preen?” Mellow asked as he picked up all the feathers and sent them into a larger trash can.
“Once a month.” Wind said as she retracted her wings.
“Try once a week.” Mellow said chuckling. “Or once every two weeks.”
“Fine.” Wind muttered as she went and sat at the couch.
“Oh don’t be all pouty with me.” Mellow said rolling his eyes as he walked off towards the kitchen.
“I’m not.” Wind said.
“Yes you are.” Mellow said sticking out his tongue as he walked back with a small bag of ice. “Here, for your wing.”
“Thanks.” Wind said as she took the ice bag and opened her left wing, before putting it on the area, quickly feeling the freezing cold of the ice, “That’s cold.”
“Better than your wing being on fire.” Mellow said shrugging before he sat back down in his chair.
“I guess you're right.” Wind said as she held the ice to her wing.
“I’m happy I won’t have to deal with preening when I get my wings.” Spike remarked.
“You’re still going to have to watch them. You're going to have a membrane instead of feathers and if that gets damaged...” Twilight said looking at Spike.
“Ouch... That sounds worse than a paper cut.” Mellow muttered.
“Feathers sound better than dragon wings now.” Spike said worriedly as he walked over to Twilight.
“Less maintenance, more risk. Sounds like an awful trade huh?” Mellow said looking at Wind.
“There is a lot of risk with feathered wings as well, you can get them broken and you might not be able to fly anymore is one of them.” Wind said.
“Dragons have finger like bones running through theirs and they can be broken. Kinda the same risk if you think about it.” Twilight said.
“True.” Wind said.
“Why are we terrifying the poor dragon with things that could happen?” Mellow asked.
“I’m not scared, I am brave!” Spike said as he puffed out his chest.
“Spider.” Wind said, looking at an empty space above Spike’s head.
“Get it off!! Get it off!” Spike yelled, running in circles as he batted his arms around his head to try to swat away the imaginary spider. Mellow just burst into laughter and fell out of his chair. “That doesn't count...” Spike muttered as he stopped running.
“Had to do it.” Wind laughed.
“Don’t worry Spike.” Mellow said standing up and patting Spike on the head. “Everyone, and pony or in your case drake, is brave when they need to be.”
“Thanks.” Spike said sarcastically.
“Yeah yeah, just think about what I said squirt.” Mellow chuckled as he walked back to his chair and sat down.
“I will.” Spike said as he looked at Twilight. She was snickering ever so slightly as she shook her head.
“Well, I have to go get ready for a small trip, so I will talk to you guys later.” Twilight said smiling as she began to trot out of the room.
“I’m going to!” Spike said as he walked after her.
“Have fun on the trip.” Wind said as she took the melted ice pack off her wing and gingerly retracted it against her back, “Catch!” She exclaimed as she threw the pack at Mellow.
“Ah!” Mellow yelped as he clumsily caught the bag. “Why you do dis?”
“To see if you have quick reflexes.” Wind replied, smiling.
“I have enough to know how to catch something when I expect it. Not when it’s just randomly thrown at my face.” Mellow said chuckling slightly. “Your wing still hurt, or are you okay?”
“Hurts a little bit, but it will be fine.” Wind said shrugging.
“Right!... So wait what is Twilight packing up for?” Mellow asked as he levitated the bag into the kitchen.
“I dunno, A summer Sun celebration in a country town called Ponyville or something.” Wind said, picking up the book that Twilight had brought from the library.
“Huh... Sounds fun.” Mellow said shrugging.
“I don’t know why she is packing already, she won't be leaving until next week, long enough for me to win the bet.” Wind said, smiling slightly.
“Meh, pays to be prepared?” Mellow suggested.
“I guess.” Wind sighed.
“Well, I have to hit the sack. Gotta get up early tomorrow for those stupid morning shifts.” Mellow chuckled as he got up and began to walk towards the staircase.
“I am going too, I want to fly for a while now that my feathers are tidy.” Wind said, getting up from the couch and walking over to and up the stairs to her room.
“Night...” Mellow yawned as he walked over to his room and opened the door before just collapsing onto the bed.

A week later Wind was in her room picking up several books and putting them into a box, before discreetly hiding them under her bed and smiling.
“They won’t know.” Wind said to herself. She opened her bedroom door and walked downstairs to the living room where Twilight was packing her final things with Mellows help.
“Do you really really need to pack this encyclopedia of human history?” Mellow asked as he picked up the book.
“Well, there are a lot of Normal humans in Ponyville. I’d thought I’d just refresh a bit before I got there. Wouldn’t want to agitate any of them. Everypony knows how easily aggravated some of them can get.” Twilight said as Mellow nodded and packed the book away with the other things.
“Do you have my gems packed?” Spike asked as Wind sat down on the couch.
“Noooo, I totally forgot to pack the massive sack of gems...” Mellow said sarcastically as he looked at the little drake. “Don’t worry, top pocket of your suitcase.”
“Awesome.” Spike said smiling.
“I have been meaning to ask, who won the bet?” Mellow asked as he floated a few other of Twilight’s supplies to him before packing them away.
“I won, I read all the books.” Wind said nonchalantly, smiling.
“Really?” Mellow said looking up and giving Wind a strange look.
“Is it surprising?” Wind asked.
“Considering you had a good two shelves left yesterday, yeah, kinda is.” Mellow said before shrugging and going back to packing. “No big deal though. You did say you were a fast reader, just didn’t think you were that fast.”
“Not many books on those shelves.” Wind said.
“Well congratulations then!” Twilight said smiling. “Although considering how many books you read, you probably aren’t going to pick up another one in a while.” She remarked with a chuckle.
“I might.” Wind said, “Anyway, you owe me one hundred bits.”
“Yeah yeah, I’ll go get them.” Twilight said rolling her eyes. “A deal’s a deal.” She walked off and up the stairs while the trio left behind continued to pack up hers and spikes’ things. There was a bunch of chatter before Twilight came downstairs with a rather smug smile on her face.
“Ooooh Wiiiind!” Twilight said in a singsong voice as she walked over to the couch.
“Yo?” Wind asked.
“Could I ask you something?” Twilight asked innocently.
“Sure...” Wind said.
“Why is there a box of books hidden under your bed?” Twilight said with her grin turning into a knowing smile.
“I was going to read those books again later, they were my favourites.” Wind said quickly, smiling.
“Reeeeally?” Twilight said leaning in closer.
“You have no idea how creepy it is to have a pony right next to your face.” Wind said worriedly.
“And you know what I think? I don’t think you read those books at all.” Twilight said.
“It was worth a shot at least.” Wind said shrugging, “You got me, here.” She opened her wings and took out a small pouch with one hundred bits in them, before handing it to Twilight.
“That’s where you hold your money?” Mellow asked looking at Wind as Twilight pocketed the bits and smugly went back up the stairs.
“It’s the safest place for an angel.” Wind said as she closed her wings.
“I keep mine in an enchanted pouch. Seems easier and more comfortable.” Mellow said shrugging.
“I don't notice, its in a place that is comfortable enough.” Wind shrugged. Mellow just mimicked the action before zipping the bag closed and sitting in a nearby chair.
“There! Jeez... How much crap do you need to pack at once?” Mellow muttered to no one in particular.
“Enough for a week to prepare apparently.” Spike replied.
“Tell me she doesn’t do that weird thing where she double packs...” Mellow groaned and looked at Spike.
“Ok, I won't tell you that.” Spike said.
“Thank you.... Wait she does doesn’t she?” He said.
“You said not to tell you, so I won't.” Spike said, holding up his hands. Mellow just groaned and facepalmed with both of his hands.
“That mare is crazy...” He muttered.
“You haven't seen her checklists...” Spike muttered.
“I have.” Wind said, her eyes suddenly looking tired.
“You okay?” Mellow asked looking at her as his hands dropped back to his sides.
“I have seen her checklists, and she has a checklist for a checklist for a checklist, she has so many checklists in her room.” Wind sighed.
“Ah...” Mellow said nodding his head.
“Hey! I don’t make that many checklists!” Twilight defended as she walked back into the room.
“Then why do you have twenty in your room last time I checked?” Wind asked.
“Because I need to stay organized!” Twilight defended again.
“You don’t need a checklist for another checklist though, the checklist for the checklist takes up more space.” Spike said, walking over to Twilight.
“Oh pshaw, you just don’t like how organized I am.” Twilight said sticking her tongue out.
“I do, but you are too organized.” Spike said.
“There is no such thing!” Twilight stated. “You can never be too organized.”
“You can.” Wind interjected.
“No, you can’t.” Twilight said as she stuck her tongue out again.
“You are such a child...” Mellow said shaking his head and laughing lightly.
“Nu uh!” Twilight said shaking her head.
“Yeah huh!” Mellow said before he realized what he did and facepalmed again. “Oh great, now I am doing it.”
“So why else are you going to Ponyville besides the Summer Sun Celebration that was so important for Celestia to send her prized student?” Wind asked, trying to stop the bickering.
“Uhm... No reason!” Twilight said quickly.
“Ok...” Wind said.
“Because she told Celestia about an old mgff.” Spike started before Twilight put a hoof in his mouth.
“Unimportant detail. Don’t worry about it.” Twilight said chuckling nervously.
“Oooh kay...” Mellow said as he raised an eyebrow.
“I hope you enjoy your trip?” Wind said questioningly.
“Oh I will! Don’t you guys worry about it! I’ll send you a letter when I get there!” Twilight said quickly as she grabbed her packed things and rushed out the door.
“She forgot someone.” Wind said, looking at Spike.
“Sooo... Why is she going nuts?” Mellow asked.
“Well, she was going nuts about an old-” Spike tried again before Twilight ran back into the house and used her magic to put Spike on her back.
“Sorrygottagobye!” Twilight quickly said before she rushed out the door.
“Well then.... Ask when they get back?” Mellow said looking at Wind.
“I’m not sure I want to know anymore.” Wind said uncertainly.
“Good enough for me...” Mellow shrugged before he got up and went to the kitchen. “What do you want for dinner tonight? I’m cooking or we can get take out.”
“Unless you know how to cook lamb, I say we go to one of those griffon restaurants to eat.” Wind said, getting up and walking after him.
“Eh.... Okay, then grab your coat, Windy we are going out!” Mellow said walking out of the kitchen and levitating his coat over to him and slipped it on.
“Alright.” Wind said, walking over to the coat rack and taking a long purple coat off the hook and putting it on. Mellow merely opened the door and did an unnecessarily exaggerated bow.
“Ladies first.” He said snickering slightly. Wind rolled her eyes and walked out the door. Mellow walked out and locked the door before they began to walk towards the town. “Okay you remember where the place is?”
“Yes, its a couple blocks away.” Wind said, turning left once she reached the end of the driveway.
“So what route we taking, the sky or the road?” Mellow asked as he walked up next to her.
“Depends, how is the height problem with you?” Wind asked.
“Don’t scare me like last time and I think I could handle it.” Mellow said shrugging. “Also the fact that I have to clean the ceiling in the rafters at my work, that kinda helps.”
“Why do you have to do that?” Wind asked, confused.
“Because my boss is one of the strangest ponies I have ever met.” Mellow said shaking his head.
“Alright then, hold on.” Wind said, opening her wings and flying above him, before grabbing his arms and flying in the air. Mellow stiffened up and clutched Wind’s arms before slightly relaxing.
“Heh heh.” He chuckled nervously. “This... This isn’t so bad!”
Wind rolled her eyes above him, “Please, this is boring and it would take awhile to get there this way.” she said as she started to fly faster and faster, building up more and more speed.
“We may be going slow, but at least I won’t die of a heart attack!” Mellow said, shuddering slightly at the speed increase.
“Calm down, it isn’t that bad.” Wind said as she continued flapping her wings, “This is why my parents named me Wind Song, if you listen closely as I fly fast you can hear the wind singing a song as I fly.” She said cackling slightly. Mellow just shook his head and kept quiet, letting the wind pass by at incredible speeds.
“We are almost there.” Wind said as the restaurant came very quickly into view. They quickly landed onto the concrete, with Mellow wobbling a little as he got used to solid ground again.
The griffon restaurant consisted of wood and logs with a thatched roof on top and an open bar inside. As well as wooden tables put all around the restaurant floor. The floors looked to be polished planked wood, as well as several brawny looking griffons waiting tables. Even the kitchen had a small open window for ponies and people to look inside and watch them cook.
“Looks cool doesn't it?” Wind asked as she folded her wings back.
“As long as I don’t lose my hands in an argument with a griffon, then yes. It looks like a wonderful place to eat.” Mellow stated as he shook his head to clear the motion sickness he was feeling.
“The good news is that no other Angels are in here right now, which is good good news for us.” Wind said.
“I’d be more worried about the normals.” Mellow muttered as he adjusted his jacket.
“Please, the normals don’t care for this kind of stuff, the only people who come here are angels because they love lamb. Normals I think are vegetarian.” Wind said as she walked over to the doors and opened them.
“Um... Alright.” Mellow said raising an eyebrow and following after her. “Hope they serve fish. I love fish.”
“Griffons serve all kinds of meat, fish constitutes as meat.” Wind said. They walked in and took a seat at one of the booths, close to the kitchen window and with a nice view of the outside area. Before they knew it a large griffon walked over and pulled out a pad and pencil.
“Velcome to Zhe Rusted Blade, may I take you order?” The griffon said in a thick Germane accent. Mellow just stared at him for a moment before looking at Wind and mouthing ‘Why am I suddenly afraid to speak?’.
Wind rolled her eyes and mouthed back ‘Don’t be scared of a restaurant name.’ Mellow just shook his head and nodded towards the burly griffon next to them. Wind sighed and looked at the griffon, “I would like some cooked lamb and my friend here who seems to have lost his ability to speak would like fish.” She ordered.
“Very gud. Any particular vay you vanted it cooked?” The griffon asked, looking at Wind with a small grin and a chuckle.
“Well done.” Wind said.
“Filleted please...” Mellow practically squeaked out. The griffon let out a hearty laugh and nodding and quickly writing it down.
“Drinks?” He asked, looking at the two.
“Lambs blood.” Wind said, smiling. Mellow just stared at Wind for a moment before shaking his head.
“Crystal water if you got it.” Mellow said as the griffon nodded and walked off. Mellow let out a small sigh and stretched his arms out before slumping in his seat. “I can’t wait till I can get into some of those spell books Twilight has.”
“I bet, you always act like a little kid when you learn a new spell.” Wind said.
“Hey, it’s pretty awesome! I mean, controlling fire and water! Who wouldn’t want to do that!” Mellow chuckled. “You watched an hour long special about flight stunts.”
“So I could fly and do stunts better! Besides I can fly in a circle and make water rise into the air, it seems like the same thing.” Wind said shrugging.
“Oh you would think that.” Mellow said sticking his tongue out at her.
“I hope you aren't squeamish about blood as well as heights.” Wind remarked.
“Considering how many times I have botched up a spell and had to get stitches, I’ll be fine... Just don’t... Gurgle it or anything please.” Mellow said shuddering slightly.
“Gurgling blood is disgusting.” Wind said.
“Drinking it is worse. It’s like you're a vampire.” Mellow said chuckling.
“Its the drink of the gods, lambs blood.” Wind said.
“I’ll stick with ground up crystals in water thank you. More fruity, less metallic.” Mellow said shaking his head.
“You get used to the taste of lambs blood when your parents force you to drink it all the time.” Wind sighed.
“Eh had to be better than studying the same spell book until you could literally recite it...Twice.” Mellow said shaking his head. “That is the only time I don’t pick up a book.”
“You can’t imagine how thick lambs blood actually is.” Wind said.
“Okay! Change of subject before I lose my lunch.” Mellow said clapping his hands together. As he finished talking, the large griffon walked over with the food and drinks expertly balanced on his wings before setting the dishes down on their table.
“Enjoy, if you need anything else, please don’t hesitate to ask.” The griffon said with a click of his tongue before he walked off to go serve somepony else. Mellow took his plate closer and sniffed the food briefly before smiling and chowing down as Wind did the same.
Soon Wind finished her lamb and picked up her cup and started drinking. As she finished her cup of blood she put the cup down and her upper lip was stained red. Mellow just looked at her before giving a small chuckle and finishing up his food.
“I didn’t know you wore lipstick.” He said with a small suppressed laugh.
“Its usually worse if I get really thick blood some dark black blood will stick to my lip.” Wind said shrugging her shoulders as she licked her lips of the remaining blood. Mellow just laughed quietly before he sipped at his own drink, leaving a small thin line of sparkles along his upper lip. “Nice sparkle Edward.”
“Wha?” Mellow asked before looking at his drink and facepalming. “Oh of course... Now I remember why I don’t drink this stuff often.”
“Now your the vampire.” Wind said laughing.
“Oh har har...” Mellow said rolling his eyes before finishing his drink and wiping his lips with a napkin. “Shall I pay, or you?”
“I think you should pay.” Wind said. Mellow just nodded and pulled out a sack of bits from his pocket and pulled out a good twenty bits to pay for the meal, as well as a small tip for the kind and overly buff griffon, before standing up.
“Shall we?” He asked giving a grin and doing a mock bow.
“I think we shall, it looks like while we were eating when the sun went down and the stars are beautiful tonight.” Wind said as she got up and walked out the door with Mellow.
“Oh being a hopeless romantic are we?” Mellow said with a chuckle.
“Hopelessly romantic with who?” Wind asked.
“You have no sense of humor do you?” Mellow laughed as he began to walk towards their place of residence.
“I have a sense of humor, I just do not believe in hopeless romantic people.” Wind said as she followed.
“Pfft, they are the funniest ones to watch!” Mellow said chuckling. “Not to mention awkward.”
“I’ll give you that, but honestly they are depressing to watch because they are so hopeless.” Wind said.
“It’s sweet to watch though.” Mellow said before looking up at the sky.
“Its too sappy.” Wind replied.
“Meh, same difference.” Mellow replied shrugging his shoulders.
“You know something I don't trust?” Wind asked suddenly as they walked.
“Hm?” Mellow hummed as he continued to watch the sky.
“I don’t trust bridges.” Wind said as she pointed to a bridge a few feet away that they were going to have to walk over to get home.
“Why? Think a monster is going to pull you under?” Mellow chuckled out.
Wind shook her head “No, I think they are going to crumble and fall apart.” she said as she opened her wings and flew into the air.
Mellow walked onto the bridge, and balanced onto a single foot. “Look at me, ma! I’m doing it! Im doing it!” He stated with a childish tone.
Wind rolled her eyes as she circled over him, “You're in the middle of a bridge, that isn't impressive.” she said. Mellow pouted a moment, crossing his arms as he settled back down onto both feet.
“Party pooper.” He muttered going back to crossing the bridge, hopping onto the railing and balancing his way down.
Wind smirked as she flew above him, wondering if she could send him over the edge into the water with a gust of wind as she heard something moving in the dark of the night, “Do you hear that?” she asked, pausing in the air.
Mellow stopped and glanced around him, putting a hand to his ear and listening for a moment. Shaking his head he looked up at her. “Nope, didn’t hear anything.”
Wind frowned as she looked around, “I swear I can hear something.” she said, hovering as she turned in circles.
“Bah, it’s probably just the wind.” Mellow stated, snickering at his pun.
“I know the wind! It isnt the wind, but fine, lets just get going...” she said, looking around a final time as she started flying slowly back across the bridge again. There was a brief moment before a loud splashing filled the air and a rock was hurled at Mellow, striking him across the head and forcing him to the ground.
“Mellow!” Wind yelled, flying quickly around in the sky to try and see what hit him.
“Shoot the bird!” A voice shouted out before a normal human ran out, pulling out a bow and aiming at Wind. Before he fired his bow off, another ran out and stopped him.
“Hey, wait a minute there, Swift Bolt, lets get some fire onto it.” A voice laughed as fire blew onto the arrow Swift was holding back. “Roasted bird is much better then just speared.”
A malicious grin spread across Swift’s lips before he took his aim at the sporadically flying Wind Song. He waited a moment before letting the arrow go, the flaming arrow flew through the air and ripped its way through her left wing, charring and partially cauterising the flesh.
“Ahhh!” Wind screamed, feeling the deep rooted pain of the burning arrow in her flesh as her wing started to catch fire. She lost control of her wing and fell out of the air, landing into the water, which doused the flames as she swam up, the cover of darkness making her invisible to the people on the bridge as she painfully swam to shore.
“Ha ha! See that trick shot?! I’d like to see your flame balls do that!” Swift shouted with a cackle, putting the bow onto his back while several other normal humans came out from the bridge to go get Mellow.
“I set it on fire man! I think that got the bird better then the arrow. I ain't called Flame Strider for no reason!” Flame said. “Shame though, the catch was kinda a beauty...to bad she was a bird”
There was a collective chuckle before a normal was launched off of the bridge with a loud crack and a flash of azure light. Mellow shakily stood up, a hand on his head while the other began to cackle with energy. Two others began to come after him as he began to stumble away.
“The magician is awake, here to save his dove.” Flame muttered, drinking from a blue bottle before shooting fire out of his mouth towards Mellow. He laughed, “Too bad she is gone already.”
Mellow stumbled backwards, falling onto his back and beginning to push himself away. He looked left and right before noticing something curious. He lifted his hand a moment before ripping a loose stone from the bridge and chucking it at the two normals. They both easily dodged the rock as it flew by.
“Is that the best you can do?” Flame asked, nudging Swift to get him to have an arrow ready. Mellow just put a hand on his bleeding forehead before pointing down. The two normals left, as well as Flame and Swift, glanced at the bridge before noticing a large, spider webbing crack making its way around the bridge. The normals on the bridge started taking large steps back as they saw the cracks starting to form under their feet. Before they knew it, the bridge collapsed, causing them all to jump backwards to avoid getting crushed by the debris.
As the bridge came down, dust, water, and debris was flung everywhere, masking everyones field of vision. As the smoke cleared, and the coughing began to slow, Flame and Swift glanced to the other side of the river where Mellow and Wind were beginning to dash away, both occasionally staggering or falling from their wounds. Swift glanced at the two Normals on the bridge before throwing a hand in the direction of the two fleeing friends.
“Well?! What are you waiting for?! A party?! Go after them!” Swift bellowed.
The two normals looked down at Flame and swift, before looking at each other, “No way man! We are getting out of here! Assault is one thing, destruction is a complete different thing!” one of them said, pulling the other normal in the other direction.
Flame turned in the water to look at Swift, “Your brothers suck.” he said.
Swift sighed and put his face into his hands. “Just shut up, Flame.” He muttered quietly.
Mellow grunted and shifted in place as he clutched the gash on his head. He glanced over his shoulder and sighed in relief as he found no one to be following them. Looking at Wind, he saw the burnt arrow barely stuck inside of her wing, the flesh and feathers around it burned horribly. “By the sun, they got you bad....” He muttered as he gently grazed a hand around the burned area.
Wind hissed in pain as she felt his hand, “Yeah, I noticed, get this arrow out of my wing!” She yelled.
“That’s not a good idea, it may get infected. We should get to the hospital before we do anything.” He grunted out as he shakily stood up and leaned against a building.
“Get the arrow out.” Wind said again as she winced at the pain that shot through her extended wing. He sighed and gently put a hand on the arrow, snapping off the charred and useless arrow head before getting a firm grip on the stick.
“Alright. On three. Three-” And in one swift motion he yanked the arrow out eliciting a loud yelp of pain from Wind. “There it’s out.” he said handing her the blooded arrow body.
Wind bit her lip, “Yeah, thanks. I see what you meant by the gangs of normals now. Fire Normals suck.” she sighed, “Won't be able to fly now for awhile, and my feathers will have to grow back.” she muttered, looking at her wing, soaked with blood and water.
“You won’t be flying at all unless we get you to a doctor. Now let’s go!” He grunted out, staggering down the street with a hand on his forehead. “Gods above, my head is killing me...”
“You were hit with a rock.” Wind said, standing up to follow him. Mellow only groaned in response. They both walked until they found a large red cross shining in the night. As they both walked inside, several ponies gasped at them while a nurse rushed over to them.
“By Celestia’s beard, what happened to you two!?” The pony cried as she began to look over both of them frantically. Wind just pointed at her wing as she threw the stick onto the floor. The pony glanced at the arrow before sighing sadly and shaking her head. “Ooooh, those stupid!... Errrgh!” She fussed over them a moment before a doctor came out with a tray full of supplies.
“Sorry, we are a bit backed up at the moment. Several of these attacks have been happening lately.” The unicorn stallion stated as he gently began to tend to Wind’s wing.
Wind frowned, “Yeah, I bet, Ow!” she exclaimed, moving away from the doctors hooves after a sensitive part was touched. The doctor simply huffed and pulled her back and continued his work as a nurse stitched up Mellow’s head.
“Now, I am going to call the authorities and see if we can’t find your attackers. Until then we are going to keep your heads clear and provide you with water and food. Can you both hold out a few minutes until the guards get here?” The nurse asked.
Wind stared at her wing, which had gause carefully and tightly wrapped around it, “I guess so.” she said, “Can I put my wing against my back, or does it have to stay extended like this for awhile?” she asked.
“For a few days so the muscles can heal properly. And then you will need to have them rewrapped and rechecked. We are going to give you some antibiotics to clear any infection.” The doctor stated as he began to pick up the bloodied tools.
Wind frowned, “Shouldn't I have a cast around my wing then instead?”
“If the wing was broken yes, but for now I have wrapped the gauze tight enough to keep it from closing. As long as you don’t force anything you should be alright in a few days time.” The doctor stated.
“Alright.” Wind sighed. The doctor turned to Mellow and quickly wrapped a bandage around his head with a cloth wet with medical alcohol.
“And you don’t use your magic for a couple days unless you want a horrendous migraine.”
“Yes doctor...” Mellow said.
The doctor gave them both a firm nodded and walked towards one of the offices. “I will return shortly, but for now, please do not move. It will only exacerbate your conditions.” He started, walking away. The two only groaned in pain as they nodded. They briefly glanced around their surroundings before they both began to subcomb to exhaustion, passing out in their seats.
