Prologue

Prologue: Your current living state

Your name is Tom Folk. You are 18 years old, a relaxed soon to be student at U of MS (university of magic and science). At this school, you study sciences and the relations to magic. You got a full scholarship because of your amazing studies on magical creatures and the scientific possibility of their existence. You also wish to study alternate universe theories. You believe somewhere, there are universes just like ours, except that the dominant species are other creature (say ponies or dogs or even dragons). You also believe they'd have talking abilities as well. You are also quite good at mechanics. You figure that this will help with your studies. Devices to simulate creatures or open portals would be cool.

It is late June in the summer. You live in Kentucky (the blue grass state, also known for horses), so it is usually pretty nice out this time of year. You are living in a house only a street or two away from the university. It is one story with a basement. You own this house with out having to pay for the house it self. It was abandoned, so you moved in without having to consult the government. You knew the family that abandoned it, and they loved the idea of you owning it. For indoor plumbing and electricity, your mechanics came in handy. You have solar panels for electricity, and the university let you use their showers. For toiletry and hand washing, you used the conveniently close forest and stream in the backyard of your house. (Yeah, your house is at the outskirts of a forest, deal with it!)

Your house is gray bricked on the outside. Your front door enters to your living room. It is pretty basic. There is a red couch on the left wall and an hd tv on the right. There is a hall way to the right that leads to your bedroom. It has a bed and a couple posters of Doctor who and Batman. To the left of the living room is a small kitchen. It has a microwave built into the wall, a stove under the counter, and a toaster on the counter above the stove. The fridge is on the opposite side of the kitchen with a cabinet for non refrigerated goods. In the basement, which you left locked, was your mechanics and sketching room. In there, you built devices and wrote and drew schematics, as well as mythical creatures. Though your book shelf upstairs held basic novels, the one down here held your journals and reference guides.

That left only groceries, tv, and laundry your only expenses. There is a laundry mat near by the university, and there was a near by Target as well. To pay for these, you work shifts at the college library, and mow lawns of near by houses. Most college expenses will be covered by your scholarship, but your college fund saved up for you by your parents. With your parents recently departed to heaven, you gained quite a lot of money, considering your a college student. You work the jobs, still, because you are using some the will money to build a portal. Some of the money also helps pay for the satellite for tv. You keep it hidden in your basement, so no one can find it. You have gotten quite close to finishing it. You've also made it accessible via watch, for when your on the other side. You start classes in late August. Today, your portal is ready to be tested.
