Another explosion hit the roof of Doctor WoodWhinneys home. Tile and plaster crumbled down onto his head, but that did not stop him from staring at his new invention. The Flux Capacitor had taken much time needed to secure and prepare, but today he finally managed to get the machine to stabilize its powerful core. It kept pulsing, and light emitted from the circuits into it. Many years of research had been pulled in order to make such a device, but according to his philosophy, there wasn't anything he couldn't invent. And somehow his own willpower kept him from fainting from sheer joy. The only sacrifices put into it were over 50,000 bits, A hard breakup, and possibly his Sanity, but he was too concerned.

"Sweet mother of Princess Luna herself, It worked!" He brushed his messy black mane with his hoof and slowly approached the Flux Capacitor. As predicted it was hot to the touch.

"Now...what am I gonna do with you?" He said at his new invention. At the instant he spoke, the front door opened, and his dear friend RedWind walked in, surprised by the light of the Flux Capacitor and the fires from the roof.

"My Stars! What did you do here WoodWhinney? Demolition? This place is a pigsty!" As he gestured, the entire household was in fact more than a mess, a dumpster of a home. Books, newspapers, and copper wire littered the home like confetti.

"I don't have time to clean! I just need to work!"

"I think you need to take a break from working and start getting some...wait a moment..." WoodWhinney turned, and RedWind stared straight into his eyes. "When was the last time you’ve rested?!" he asked.

"Oh, about four days ago or so...I really don't remember, but all I need is some coffee and I'll be as bright as a light, eh?" For the first time, RedWind was more than concerned about WoodWhinney than he had imagined.

"This kind of stuff is unhealthy for a pony your age!" he explained.

“Oh? And you think sixty-five might be a bad age for me to be more...performed in science?"

"Yes! Don't you see that all this science crap is destroying your life? You lost your job, most of your fortune, possibly your sanity, and your marefriend! Not to mention that part of the roof has been destroyed...and who's gonna fix it? Certainly not me! You can't just-" He was immediately cut off by the Flux Capacitor shoved in front of his muzzle. A large glove wrapped around Wood Whinneys hoof.

"Do you know what this is?" RedWind was about to answer, but was again cut off by Wood Whinneys chatty mouth."This is the award from my years of work! Don't YOU see RedWind?! My entire life has brought me to this one moment in time! Inventing the first device to aid me, and possibly others, in the great leap of time and space, through the eternal Space Timestream, into any forgotten period I want to be in! This could change everything! The lives of other ponies, the fate of relatives, and maybe I could stop the unquestioned death of Princess Celestia! I can't just stop now!"

"You're gonna stop soon enough, WoodWhinney. I've read WAY too many books to see the outcome of what happens next. But, so long as you have that device in front of me, I'll humor you. So, what's it do?"

"I'm glad you asked." WoodWhinney smiled.

Doctor WoodWhinney pushed RedWind into his large red armchair and quickly pulled out his chalk board. With his levitation spell, he drew with the chalk, and as he drew , he explained the purpose of his research.

"Now this here, is the Flux Capacitor. It is the essential core to make Time Travel possible. What it does is stimulate a time-bending sequence that creates its own...how should I say this...temporary pocket wormhole to travel through! And warp through time! But, with the proper tools and precautions of course. These three Geissler Tubes transmit the energy in a cycle, so that it won't stop the process once it has started. It needs the necessary power! 1.21 Gigawatts exactly to generate it! And the only thing that can transmit that kind of power is either a bolt of lightning or plutonium. Now-"

"Plutonium?!" RedWind shouted. WoodWhinney was a bit puzzled by his sudden outburst, but soon understood his concerned glare.

"Don't tell me that this...thing is powered by one of the most powerful and radiation-filled elements?"

"No! Not this thing! It's currently being powered by normal electricity, but the car in the garage is!" With no time to waste, RedWind stormed into the small and compact garage. Instantly he gazed at the DeLorean. Steam exhausted from it, and the headlights blinked white, almost like it was ready to drive. Wires and valves mixed from the back, and lights flashed from inside.

"Your old DeLorean?"

"Yeah, ain't she a beaut'? Used her because of her aluminum plating. Took me a month to prepare it. All I need to do is install the Flux Capacitor, and this baby is ready to break the time wall!" As Doctor WoodWhinney left, RedWind had nothing more to do but stare at the DeLorean.

“Time Travel?” Somehow, the words had a better ring in his ears.

"By the way, where did you get the plutonium?"

Everything seemed perfect. The moon was high up in the sky, the street was completely empty, and the DeLorean was filled up with pure gasoline. It revved and heated, prepared to drive. Doctor WoodWhinney pulled out more schematics to make sure he was doing the necessary precautions for the time jump.

"So, what time period do you plan to go to?" RedWind walked up next to the puzzled doctor.

"Not sure. Can't go into the past, so the only logical thing is into the future! But I'm not sure what time...maybe ten minutes to test it out..of course! Yes! That's what I'll do! A test run!" Doctor WoodWhinney rushed to the side of the DeLorean and opened the door. It reeled upwards and revealed the main controls: The Time circuits, the Flux Capacitor resting in the back, and the control stick ready to be pulled.

"Perfect!" Wood Whinney yelled, and turned to his friend who was still staring at the DeLorean in awe.

"So...how does this doohickey work?" he asked.

"Easy science really, As soon as the car reaches a certain speed, the Flux Capacitor will react to it, and start to fuse and twist the matter around it, and will then break the wall of time and space, allowing me to go into any time period I want!"

"What speed limit?"

"Oh, about eighty-eight MPH or so."

"88?! How much road do you need to get up to that mileage?"

"Actually a small amount! I just need space, and time." Doctor WoodWhinney hopped inside the car and started to prepare the jump, but stopped once RedWind looked inside.

"Wait a moment...this is wrong..."

"What's wrong?"

"You, you seem too calm for this. I'm about to make a breakthrough that blows away all old forgotten and untold magic. All of science will reward me if I succeed, and I could even earn the honor of changing the course of history....You don't believe I'll succeed, do you?"

"Honestly I... can't say I do. I believe as soon as you make ninety miles, you'll just keep going, and give up afterwards like you always do after a failure."

"But this time is different! I know I will make the jump! I know I will! And I'll prove it too!" Doctor WoodWhinney shut the door of the DeLorean and started the engines, then started to drive. Instantly RedWind had regretted what he said, but part of him still believed that the DeLorean wouldn't 'Time Jump' like WoodWhinney had predicted. But soon the car drove and reeled around the driveway into the open road. RedWind kept watch, spellbound by curiosity. Only until the car was at the end of the street did he see the blue sparks.

The cables on the back of the car began to light up with a blue aura.  The whole of the car was surrounded by the lights, until a large explosion came from the front twice, before the DeLorean flashed, and vaporized into thin air. All that was left was the scorched tire tracks. Frantically, RedWind dashed to the road and to the remains of the car, but there was still nothing but the marks and the smoke.

"Damn!"

The DeLorean instantly broke through time and space, releasing a cluster of energy while time jumping. The immense light from the Flux Capacitor temporarily blinded him, causing him to spin out of control. The car managed to stop abruptly, swiveling on its right side. Confused but aware, Doctor WoodWhinney hopped out of the car and grasped his concept of reality. Behind the DeLorean was its fiery tire tracks, and the large amount of smoke from its Time Jump. Ironically, the entire DeLorean itself was completely coated in a thin layer of ice.

"Damn!" he yelled. The doctor smiled, a bigger smile than he had imagined in years. The Time Machine had worked! He had created Time Travel! Quickly he took out his small leather booklet and pen, and started to write down his experience.

I want all of the world to know about this!

Once he was done he threw it back inside the DeLorean, and still admired his work, and how all his studies managed to lead him to this.

But something was wrong. He knew it aside from his excitement. It was late in the evening, but somehow the road was plain, lazily placed gravel. And instead of his home behind him, was a small hill, populated by large oak trees.

"Hold on a minute..." He quickly ran inside the machine and checked the time circuits. The last time and past time were unchanged, but the future scale was a randomly flicking number, until it finally stopped on its final stage.

May/12/1053

"What?!" Minutes later, Doctor WoodWhinney had taken his time to check every wire connected from the Time Circuits to the Flux Capacitor, and finally he found the problem. Some of the circuits themselves shortened and malfunctioned, randomizing the chart, and sending him to a completely different time period. And since the DeLorean was out of plutonium to use, he was stuck in the past.

Just ten minutes...
