A visit from the upper half
It was summer in Canterlot when Magnus arrived at home after his day at work.
He headed directly to the living room and levitated one book out of the bookshelf.
“The Pegasus could have waited with the thunderstorm ´till I got home and not making my coat completely wet.”
Magnus now looked at the cover of the book he levitated out of the bookshelf.
“Well, they had to let it rain, the farms were getting dry and at least rain means that we will have something to eat for some time.”
It was named “The Magic within the Tribes”, and began to read it.
“Mh... sounds interesting. Pegasus and Earth Ponies are having a form of magic? I were always wondering how Pegasus could fly, but which kind of magic should Earth Pony’s have? Working magic?”
Magnus was laughing after the last sentence, but suddenly someone was knocking on his door.
“Wait a moment, I´m coming.”
When Magnus opened the door, he saw two female unicorns standing in front of him, which were looking like they were sisters.
The older sister had a white coat with a pink mane, the younger had a blue coat with a blue mane.
“Come on in, you can have a cup of tea if you like.”
When Magnus were saying that, he suddenly felt something in the presence of the two unicorns which were nodding on his offer. He opened the door further and suddenly realized that the two unicorns were still standing in front of his door. He realized that he didn´t tell them were they should go.
“The living room is to the left, you can make yourself comfortable while I prepare the tea and the dishes. Well, I have no sandwiches or something else to eat for you, I don´t have often visitor at home.”
The two unicorns were already walking towards the living room while he was saying that and he left towards the kitchen. When the sisters arrived at the living room her white sister were whispering something in her ear after watching if Magnus was nearby.
“Do you think we can really trust him? If he can´t accomplish this task, if we were wrong about him, then there might be no other chance for it.”
The blue unicorn looked at her surroundings and replied then.
“We have no other choice, either we trust him or we are lost at this task, we have nobody else we could trust. Besides, he is one of the few unicorns which understands magic and the theoretical part behind it. We can just hope that everything works as planned.”
The blue unicorn was sunken in thoughts when Magnus arrived in the living room behind her.
“What is the reason for your visit?”
When Magnus said those words he just realized how serious the expression on the faces of the sisters were. But before he could ask further questions about that, one of the sisters was already answering one of his questions.
“The reason why we are visiting you is a matter of concern which we believe only you could help us to overcome.”
Magnus levitated the teacups and the tea can in place and, while he was making himself comfortable, the other sister started to talk.
“Our matter of concern is the creation of a new magic, which should give talented unicorns the ability to travel back in time for a short while, but nopony in Equestria is as talented in manipulative magic as you are, mister Magnus.”
Magnus looked at the blue unicorn and answered directly.
“Excuse me please, but your statements are a bit questionable.
For example the reason you are creating the magic for. I will surely not provide any help to any plan which could harm anypony in any way.
Am I right in the assumption, that you are not interested in practical formulas, but just want to know if this is possible and that you already have permission from the princesses or Starswirl? This magic could cause some serious havoc in the wrong hooves.
But I would gladly accept your offer and help you if you were sent from Princess Celestia, Princess Luna or Starswirl.”
Magnus looked closely at the two unicorns and continued his answer.
“But I would still like to get the confirmation from Starswirl directly, I don´t think I would need one from the royal highnesses in this case.”
The two unicorns looked at each other with confusion after this statement, but Magnus just continued speaking.
“ You knew that I am a specialist in manipulative magic, so why do you try to hide yourself in such magic?”
It looked like the blue unicorn was close to laughing about this statement, but then she began to speak.
“It really looks like we found the right person for this matter of concern, but don´t be afraid that you couldn´t handle this task, Starswirl will assist you in this. If you succeed, you would earn the rank of a high magician and assist Starswirl the Bearded together with Clover the Clever in the development of new magic.”
Magnus was thinking about what the blue unicorn, or better said Luna in unicorn form, offered him and answered directly.
“Even if the rank of a high magician sounds great, I must ask for a favor from you, Princess Luna. You already offered me a place as a personal student of yours many years ago which I denied back then, and I am not a fool and know that I would gain this position with your offer. But I can´t let my pupils down when they could still need me. That is the reason why I would still deny your offer until you found a replacement for me as a teacher at the school.”
It looked like Luna was surprised from his words but she answered him without showing it.
“Very well, then it is settled. From today on will Clover the Clever replace your role as teacher in the school of Canterlot for you so mister Magnus can, together with Starswirl the Bearded, expand the prosperity from all of Equestria and prepare us for any upcoming dangers which might occur.”
After Luna finished that last sentence, she teleported herself together with Magnus to her personal bedchamber in the castle of Canterlot and levitated some forms over to Magnus.
“But before we can begin, you must sign these forms, otherwise you would be legally unable to begin with your work.”
Magnus looked around himself and realised that Luna had taken the form of an alicorn again.
After a big sigh he began to sign all forms Luna had given him.
“Paperwork, my favorite work... But now we can begin with science.”
It was a normal day in Equestria, more precisely in Canterlot which was still being build.
In this Time, there was the problem with the choose of a Leadership.
The Unicorns thought they should provide a leader, to provide an intellectual Leadership to all three tribes.
The Pegasi wanted a leader from their tribe, to lead all ponies with loyalty and to prepare the tribes against all odds which could occur doing the existence of the equestrian union.
The Earthponies wanted somepony from their tribe to be the leader, so all tribes could work with the best productivity and they wouldn´t need to fear food problems again.
But sadly, nopony wanted to see somepony from another tribe reign over them, which was beginning to ignite a new war in the new formed union, when all out a sudden two regal sisters appeared from a race which was unknown to all off the three tribes and were named “Alicorn” later.
The sisters had influences of all three tribes, but owned big magical abilities, which were superior to the power of all three tribes, even the Unicorns.
While a big group of Unicorns where needed to lower and rise moon and sun before the sisters' reign, both sisters could easily rise or lower the celestial bodies alone, which was even represented by there cutie marks.
The younger sister, a blue Alicorn named Luna, was capable of controlling the moon with all its power within, while the older sister, a white Alicorn called Celestia, was able to control the sun likewise.
There were many ponies who weren´t happy with the decision that nopony from any of the tribes were chosen to reign the newly established union and watch for order equally for all three tribes, but the voices against this decision suddenly vanished when all ponies recognised the two sisters as an symbol of all three tribes which showed that when they worked together with their abilities, every kind of task would be more easy to accomplish.
Councils and groups were formed to reflect all the needs in Equestria and to manage tasks much easier.
This is the time were Magnus the Manipulator was living in his foalhood.
Magnus was still a pupil in the newly build school of Canterlot and Starswirl the Bearded was already an old magician with high reputation.
He already created magic which would give the caster the ability to teleport and some magic which were more like a proof of concept and hat no practical use.
Magnus on the other hoof hadn´t found out what his special ability was, but when he was able to create magic which could shrink or embiggen objects , he was offered a post as pupil under Luna's watch like Starswirl, who was studying under Celestias wing.
He surely liked the idea behind this, but he refused this offer because he were frightened that he couldn´t accomplish what the princesses would request from him, so he started to learn everything about magic on his own and became a teacher at the school of Canterlot.
Magnus was already seen as an adult when Canterlot, his place of birth, was already completed and lived his life relatively simple, but this was about to change...
