Chapters I was alone on Route 116, walking and hoping to find a safe place soon. I've never been the kind of social person, but I do miss the others. Crazy how everything went to shit so quickly. I have been attacked, shot at, and even my right wing is torn to shreds. After a while of endless walking in the scorching heat, unable to fly in the cool wind current above, I finally found a small town with a billboard that portrayed neon letters, spelling "Pleasentvill". Looked safe, no one seemed to be in there from where i could see, so I decided to make my way in. I jump over a rugged fence to get to the other side, but then I noticed there were barbs all along the other side of the fence when i landed. I heard some groaning noises coming from different places and I knew I made a mistake by coming here. I started to walk again and look around. All the buildings seemed abandoned, but there was ponies here for sure.
There was a house on the right which seemed to be a nice place to stay. The windows were all boarded up and the door seemed blocked. I wanted to make sure no one was in there so I decided to knock on the door first. During a few seconds, I didn't hear anything. Then I heard some hoofsteps coming closer to the door quickly. I heard banging noises and groans. I slowly started to walk back but then the door exploded into pieces and two creatures came out. Dammit! All I had is a military combat knife which was attached to my hoof. I swung it in the air and I hit the first zombie pony right in the neck and killed him. Then the second one came to attack me, but I fought back and pierced him right in his chest. He fell on the ground and died. I never ever thought I would have to kill someday to survive.
A smell of rotten flesh slowly started to get to my nose. Ugh! That makes you want to throw up all of your guts. I decided to get in the house and look for supplies. The smell was still there, but I was slowly getting used to it. I got lucky and found a few good things inside this place. There was a energy bar left in a shelf inside the kitchen and a cleaver on the table inside the living room. I left what I had in my backpack here but I kept my knife on me. I knew I would come back because I would make refuge here and stay for the night. I went outside and I saw a seafood restaurant across from this house on the other side of the street. The windows were broken and I could see there was nopony inside. I decided to go in and look for something to eat and maybe other types of supplies. I found nothing at first, but when I went in the kitchen, I found 4 fillets of salmon and a 2Lt bottle of milk. I have to admit that I smiled. I looked around even more and found a blender and a portable electric stove. I didn't really know if it would be useful but I took it with me anyway.
When I got out of the restaurant, I saw something...just...horrible. There was a bunch of zombie ponies over what seemed to be another restaurant. They were eating other ponies, I could tell by the screams and all the noises they were making. I felt so...weak because I knew I couldn't help them. All I could do is...watch them being eaten alive. I didn't stay any longer and went back to the house quickly. I knew I still had some time before night so I decided to fortify the house more to be safer. Especially with that horde of zombies outside. I went upstairs and discovered a bed. It didn't take too long until I decide to jump on it. Ahh! I was finally able to relax after all I've been through today. I fell asleep quickly and slept for the night.
I woke up early in the morning, feeling stronger than yesterday. I heard my belly growling for food, but I didn't listen to it. I knew I had to try my best to save my supplies for when I really need them. I carefully opened the door and looked outside. No sound, no movement, nothing. The place really seemed deserted this time. I decided to grab my backpack, fill it up with all my stuff and went out.
I went to what seemed to be a Ponydex building. As I looked through a window, I saw two zombie ponies inside the place. I decided to go in the back of the building and I saw a door opened. I sneaked in and went behind one of the zombie ponies. I tried to stab him in the back but I missed and fell down on some dusty shelves. The noises alerted the second zombie pony who came right away. I cut the first one in the face with my knife and he fell on the floor, groaning in pain. The second came to attack me. He used his right hoof and whacked it in my face. Oh, that bastard was not going to get away with this! I swung my knife in his neck and decapitated him. AH! He got what he deserved! After all of this, I look around to find stuff. I successfully found 3 rolls of duct tape, 1 box of nails and a glow stick. As I went outside the building, the first zombie pony grabbed me by the hind leg and tried to bite me. I tried to push him away and I fell down, knocking my head on the ground during the shock. It hurt, but I was feeling good enough swing my hoof in the air and stab the zombie pony right in the neck as he tried to attack me again.
I slowly got up, still feeling a bit knocked out and slowly walked over to the other restaurant across the street and next to the sea food restaurant. On my way there, I saw those two ponies from yesterday...well, what used to be ponies. All that was left of them on the ground was bones, flesh and a lot of blood...Damn. I didn't look at them any longer and went to the restaurant. The windows were broken on that building and I saw that there was a zombie inside. He was just standing there, looking up at the ceiling. I don't know why, but I didn't trust that zombie. I mean, why would he just stay there? I don't know. I didn't take any risks and decided to go around the restaurant to sneak in from behind. When I went there, I heard a huge machine noise. The typical "Katchik!" noise. I slowly turned around to see that there was a pony in a military suit on the other side of the river. He was on top of a big fence and he had his weapon aimed at me. I was really scared and I didn't want him to shoot, so I raised my right hoof in the air and said "I'm not a zombie, please don't shoot!" He still flipped the cap of the firing mechanism and got ready to shoot.
Without hesitation, I ran away to be out of reach. All I heard after is a big explosion noise. I saw the restaurant being destroyed and falling apart into the river. I decided to go to the gun store. On my way over there, I saw that one of the two devoured ponies on the ground was holding a Henry rifle which had 6 rounds out of 12 left. I decided to take it with me and get inside the gun store. As I looked inside from a window, I saw two more zombie ponies. This time though, they saw me. They started to walk fast toward me and I decided to use the rifle I just found. I took it with both of my hooves as I leaned against the door way. I looked down my sight and shot two bullets into the zombies' heads. Before they started to smell too much, I pull their rotting bodies away from the store.
Then I entered the gun store and looked around for supplies. I discovered a workbench and I decide to leave the duct tape rolls and the box of nails on it. I looked around a bit more and found a medium sized military backpack which contained 4 empty water bottles in it and some Henry rifle ammo. I then filled the 4 empty bottles I found with the 2Lt bottle of milk that I had. After, I plugged the blender and the portable electric stove in an outlet. luckily, there was still electricity in this town. I fortified the store so I would be able to stay there for the night, since it was now too late to go back in the other house. Good thing I had all my stuff in my bag. There was no bed, but I used my backpack as a pillow and fell asleep quite quickly.
I woke up early in the morning, after I heard a very loud vehicle engine coming from outside. I took away one of the wooden planks that I nailed to the window and looked outside. I saw a dark purple mustang coming up the street very fast, leaving a trail of black smoke behind. The car was heading toward the water purification center. I nailed the plank back on the window and went outside to see it better. All of a sudden, the car slowed down and stopped to let a purple pony come out of it. The stallion aimed his .44 magnum pistol at me and said "Okay, now you will slowly move away from the building you're right next to, alright? Don't do anything stupid or you'll regret it."
I looked at him with a little smile, just to show that I wasn't scared and then I aimed my Henry rifle at him and shouted "Don't shoot or I'll shoot too. I'm NOT a zombie, okay? I am not here to hurt you or anypony else. I just want to survive like everypony else that's left, so please don't make me waist ammo by using a bullet on a normal pony!"
The purple pony looked at me for a few seconds, then he said "Dammit!" I was confused until he added "Alright, you got me!" He then put his gun on the ground and said "I have no ammo at all! I'm sorry, I was trying to bluff with you to get you away from the store. Looks like you're a smart mare! Well, this is all I have: my shitty car, my useless gun and only a few supplies. I got robbed. Sorry again for what I just did, I was kind of desperate."
I put my rifle down and looked at him with a smile and I giggle a bit. He didn't seem as happy as me though, but I didn't care that much. "Can you please let me stay here? I won't cause any trouble!" he suddenly asked.
I replied, "Alright, come in." He took all his stuff in his bag and started to walk calmly toward me. He passed me by and tipped his hat while saying "Thank's, ma'm!" I blushed at that moment. We just had a connection, eyes to eyes. I don't know why, but it gave me goosebumps. I was having a weird feeling inside, it was hard to tell if I was happy or just nervous. I looked at him again once he was inside. He was sitting on the floor, unpacking his stuff. As I walked toward him to get closer, he took a sandwich out of his bag and started to eat it by doing loud noming noises. I laughed a little and he looked at me with a little smile. Well, I guess it was. It's kinda hard to tell if somepony's smiling when their mouth is full of food. He then started to talk with his mouth full! I laughed harder that time and he laughed too!
I said "Wait until you're done!" while laughing. He did a nod with his head and swallowed. I slowly stopped laughing as he said "Sorry, I was just so hungry I had to eat something! Anyway, all I wanted to say is, there is not much ponies nice as you these days! Thanks again for letting me stay"
I smiled and replied "You're very welcome. I'm glad to finally have somepony to talk to. Speaking of you, what's your name?"
He put his right hoof in the air as if he wanted to do a brohoof and said "Name's Ian Ceol, nice to meet you!" I giggled and lifted my right hoof to give him a brohoof.
Then I said "My name is Sunrise Tune, nice to meet you too!" while clocking his hoof with mine.
Ian smiled and said "You're probably wondering how I got here, right? Well, let me tell you what happened back there with my car and the bastards who stole my stuff!"
I asked "The zombie ponies?"
Ian said "Nope! Far from it! The militia ponies! I was entering from the south side of the city, on the main road, I thought it was a nice place without zombies since I already had to deal with a lot of them. I continued on the road and I spotted some zombies. I thought 'well, shit! this place got overrun like the others' but I kept going past the super store and I saw these very large iron fences and an intercom. I drove next to it, pressed the button and somepony said "come in". I came in and I noticed a lot of ponies wearing old fashion clothing and some with full militia armor with weapons on their back. I stopped to a parking lot and got out of my car. I looked around and I noticed a park.
A unicorn wearing a white suit came over to me with a floating glass of clear liquid. He told me "hello good sir, how was your day?" as he extended the glass toward me".
"What a strange question to ask in the situation we're all living lately. I still took the glass and said 'Thank you sir'. I asked 'what is this place?'
He said 'oh, that's not important, but if you look over there, you'll see that the liquid you're about to drink was made here by excellent craftponies who made that drink out of the resources we have in this park!"
I said 'thanks!' and I drank it. After that, I noticed the pony swung at me, aiming for the back of my head with his bear hoof. All I remembered was black. I woke up and I saw that I was in one of the houses I passed when I was in my car. A mare and a colt where there and they thought I was that mare's husband and that kid's father. I was trying to get out but they kept pushing me to stay. I finally got out of there at night. I took all my stuff, my gun and some supplies, got in my car and I drove up the high way. I drove through the fences and broke a part of them. The guards tried to shoot me but they missed and I've been able to make my way out. It was pretty early in the morning, but I didn't care. I just wanted to get out of there. Then I arrived here and now here I am! But when I was in that house, I heard a big bang coming from one of those big metal guns on top of the roof of one of the houses. I also saw when I came here that a building was destroyed by the river. Any idea what happened there?"
I wasn't really surprised about that question so I answered "Oh, that. Yeah it's because I went to that building, which used to be a restaurant. It got destroyed because when I wanted to sneak in from behind, one of militia ponies saw me and he aimed his big gun at me. I raised up my right hoof to show him I wasn't a zombie and I wasn't harmful, but then he got ready to shoot. I was so scared. All I thought about is running away from him and that's what I did. I ran back to the front of the building and he shot at the restaurant. The roof fell down first and the whole building followed its fell in the river. He must have shot a kind of explosive thing. I went back here right after, hehe." He looked at me a bit surprised, like he didn't expected me to say that.
He smiled and said "I see. Well, I'm pretty tired. I didn't really get any sleep with these bastards so, I'll take a nap if you don't mind, okay?" Did he really expected me to say no?
I said "Of course, make yourself at home. I'll be outside for a while so stay inside until I come back please." He nodded his head and opened his sleeping bag to get inside. He looked cute with only his head coming out of it. I went outside and looked around to see if there was any zombie ponies. Nothing.
I decided to head toward the building that looked somewhat like a fish store.. I didn't go there yet and I thought that more supplies could be helpful. I walked slowly to the place, making sure i didn't make any loud noises that could have alerted the zombie ponies. Luckily, no zombies showed up. Once at the little building, I decided to sneak in to be careful. I slowly opened the front door, which was the only thing that wasn't blocked by a plank or something else. There was an horrible rotten fish smell inside the place and the place was a total mess. There was a lot of garbage on the floor and some broken rods. I saw three zombie ponies, all in a corner.
I didn't see what they were doing and I didn't even want to know. Again, I got lucky. I've been able to sneak in without a sound and I found a metal fish net, four hooks with strings on them and a cleaver. I slowly made my way out and I heard a loud noise. The same kind of noise I heard when that militia pony saw me at the restaurant yesterday. I didn't even get the time to turn around that I heard a very big explosion noise coming from behind. I turned my head and saw the same militia pony with his machine gun aimed at the this fishing building. he shot at the structure and The building seemed to be half destroyed. The zombie ponies probably got killed.
I ran toward the gun store and I tripped over something. I knocked my head on the ground quite hardly but I didn't stay on the ground for too long. I knew I had to go away quickly. I looked and saw that I tripped over a baseball bat. I thought it could be very useful and I put it in my backpack. I went back to the gun store before it got dark outside. When I got inside, I saw Ian on the work bench. He was working with a lot of stuff.
He turned around and asked me "Hey, do you have a baseball bat, by any chance?" I felt surprised, since I found one a few minutes before.
I replied "Well, what do you need it for?"
He smiled at me."You'll see" he said. I shrugged and tossed him the baseball bat and he nodded a"thank you". He put the bat on the bench and said "Uhm, I don't really like people looking at me when I work. Do you mind looking away for a moment?" That was a strange question, but I didn't say no.
I simply replied "sure" and I turned around to look at the door. I heard a lot of "Bang! Bam! Boom!" noises for about 5 minutes and then nothing. I heard hoofsteps coming closer to me. He said "alright, you can look now."
He was holding a spiked baseball bat in his left hoof. When I looked at his face, he said "Take it! I made it for you."
I smiled and said "Thank you very much, but are you sure you don't want it?"
That made him giggle a little and he replied "No, don't worry about me." I took the spiked bat and he walked toward his stuff.
"What a nice stallion" I thought to myself. He looked over to me and said "Hey, do you have a flashlight or something like that?" I didn't hesitate and I gave him the glow-stick I found yesterday.
He quickly took it from my hoof and went in a dark corner of the store. After a few minutes, he came back with a big crate on his back. He put it on his sleeping bag and started to take the stuff that was inside out of it. There was one big ammo crate inside which seem to have some bullets since I heard a noise coming from it when he moved it. He stood up and went back in the darkness. He came back quickly with a Henry rifle in his mouth. He sat on the ground right next to his sleeping bag to look carefully at the rifle. He said "It's fully loaded! I'm lucky!" Then he took the box he found inside the crate and threw it at me. He said "Here. You can have this."
I looked at him, very surprised, and replied "Oh. Well, thank you very much, that's very nice of you." He winked and said "Hehe, you're welcome!"
I don't know why but I started to blush. I never had anyone so nice to me, it felt great. I asked him "So, you're gonna stay here for the night, right?" He replied "It's already night outside?!" with a very surprised face.
I giggle and said "Well, yes, it is. You've been here all day and I was away. I almost got killed again but I've been lucky and ran away. I think you should stay here, it's too dangerous to go outside at night and even more if you're alone."
He smiled and said "oh, I thought you couldn't come with me, hehe!"
I blushed even more and said "Oh, hehe, well, not at night."
He laughed and said "Nah, it's alright. I guess we should just go to sleep now." as he was slowly taking his clothes off. I just stood there, watching him taking off his shirt, his boots and his belt. He slowly got in his sleeping bag and tried to make himself comfortable. I was blushing like crazy. Oh my, that stallion was so...so...I don't even know what to say to describe such a handsome pony. He asked "You're not going to bed?"
I looked at him, still blushing, and said "W-well, I-I don't have a-anything to s-sleep on. D-Do you mind i-if I sleep w-with you?"
He didn't even notice that I was blushing even more! He smiled at me with a very sweet smile and said "Sure, come with me."
I said "Oh, thank you" and I started to take my dark blue hoodie off. I kept only my light blue shirt I had under it.
I slowly walked toward him, nervous and happy at the same time. He moved a bit to give me some space and I slowly got inside with him. The warmness of his body was just so sweet. I missed that feeling. The feeling to have someone right next to you, that you can talk to and maybe even hug. I looked in his sky blue eyes and said "Well, hehe, goodnight Ian."
He seemed to blush and said " 'night Sunrise." We both closed our eyes and slept for the night in this small but very comfortable sleeping bag.
