Frost Bite
That went surprisingly well, mostly?.?
Previous ChapterNext ChapterA light shined bright from a lamp, and the light glistened off the ice covered wall. Next to the lamp, was a chair, a darker shade of red, with diamond patterns all over. There was a couch right across from it, which acted as more of a bed than a couch, for it’s owner found that it was better than any bed Celestia could provide. It added an aspect of home to the room, which was hidden from all sight.
There was a blanket, thick, with the picture of a tiger sewed into it’s pattern. It was a very nice blanket. It kept even the alicorn of ice cozy. But then again, he never really felt the cold which emitted from his very statue. Not that he was immune, but the sensation, COLD, just, it seemed to hover just above his pelt, not far enough, that somepony who would hug him wouldn't feel it, but not exactly touching. Less than a millimeter above his pelt, or if one got an exact measurement, I wouldn't know it, for I don’t think there is one for something so small. Like the width of a piece of paper.
Bookshelves lined the walls, which closed in on him. A thin layer of snow rested on top of some of them, but never fell down as to touch any of the much valued books. There were towers of pillows, that stacked all the way to the roof.
There was one door, well, two; the door which hardly ever opened, and the door to the restroom. There was no neglect in the sense of deprivement from things. But the Alicorn didn't like his prison. He tried to just stare at a wall for like four years. It only came to the invention of the martial art known as karate. But after a few weeks at looking at anything, but a wall that is, he was cured of the crazy which had rooted in his mind. And he then realized something, how long had it been since he had actually seen the outside? When was the last time he felt the breeze of the morning winds against his pelt? What was the last wild flower he had smelled, or animal he had seen?
He didn't want to be stuck up in the over furnished dungeon. He wanted to be free, and to live a normal life. After all, it was the nature of any life form, except a select few, to be wild and free. He had done his share of asking and pleading for Celestia, or Luna, or even the newly coronated Princess Twilight. It had been a little while since he had seen faces other than those. Cadence used to visit, and Shining Armor did too for a smaller time, but other than the ones who have already been mentioned, he didn't really even see pictures of other ponies. But he knew they were out there.
So, he hatched a plan. It was completely against his nature to do any such thing that was part of the plan, but if he wanted to get out, he would have to compromise some things. Like he knew that there was a reason that only a select few came to see him. So, he decided to hide his alicorn-ness. Simple enough, just put on a jacket, which covered his wings. There was little else he could do.
But he didn't want to just disappear. His guardian’s would be completely shocked, and most likely furious. He had to make it look like there was a reason, and that is where we pick up.
(10:00 p.m.- Just before the get away.)
“Princess please, I don’t wish to stay here. It is old, and boring. I wish you’d listen.”
“You know perfectly well why you can’t go outside.”
“Yea, for reasons that have been proven to be not true.”
“Well, ... you can never be too careful.”
“So, lets lock you and Luna and Twilight, and Cadence in a cell just like me, or else too much sun, or moon, or love, or magic will be exposed.”
“Were different.”
“No Celestia, were not. In the same way you control the sun, I control ice.”
“Yes, but no. We are different, and yes, you ‘control’ ice the same way I control the sun.”
“You can’t keep me locked up in here forever. I will get out.”
“I can’t, of that, you're correct. But I will keep you in here as long as I can.”
“No, that’s not right... It’s not fair!”
“Don’t you raise your voice at me, I am the princess.”
“I don’t give a care in the world! You're a tyrant!”
Celestia stared at him, anger soothing her strengthening will to slap that colt silly. “My subjects would say different,” She said with the little calm she had left in her body.
“I am one of your SUBJECTS,” Frost Bite shouted. “I’m like the only one of them locked up in a prison at that.”
Celestia turned, and walked outside the room. She was far too lost with patience for this.
There was so many other things that she had to deal with. This was just a complete and just about pointless waste of her time.
Guilt seized her as she glanced back at the thick steel door. She was truly not too fair with him. After all, it wasn’t his fault he was in there, but her own.
The door slammed shut and the light from the outside disappeared, and now he was alone. “That was your last chance.”
Frost bite went to one of the book shelves, and looked at it. It was about two heads larger than he, for it was quite small, or he quite large, one or the other. A white aura surrounded the shelf, as it was moved away from where it stood. He gazed upon a wall, that could be easily hidden, and appeared to be thinner than the others, or at least hallow. He set down the shelf gently, as to not make a single sound. He then took in a deep breath, and blew on the wall. A layer of thin ice covered the wall, Frost Bite closed his eyes and whispered a few words, “May the bonds break free, and my cell have a door open to me wide.” He opened his eyes, and they glowed bright, and strong. The wall slowly began to crystallize, and after a few seconds, you could nearly see through it, had it of not been so thick.
His eyes stopped glowing, and he closed his eyes. A new layer of frost set over them. He touched the ice with the tip of his hoof. A silent and invisible pulse flowed through, cracking the ice, which was eight feet thick. He turned and grabbed a jacket, with arrow shafts, and a bow in it. There were no tips on the arrows, just the feathers, and shaft. He zipped it up, and then turned to the newly formed hole in the wall.
Some parts of him screamed to stay, for who could know what was past the boundaries of the castle. But the rest all pushed him out, for this had been his prison for ever since he was born. He wasn't sure as to if his time of planning was enough, but with reluctant bravery, he lifted his hoof, and took his first step, his first step into freedom. The caverns around him seemed to be full of diamond and crystals, and other such beautiful mineral. They sparkled, and shined in the light emitting from his horn. He stepped again, this time, it was almost a leap. He positioned the bookshelf behind him, as to conceal his escape point.
The crystal glowed, and cast off reflections of him. He went out into the old mine. There was a cart, which had fallen, from the rail track just above his head. He jumped in, and levitated the cart, with himself in it, up to the top of the shaft, and onto the continued tracks. The cart accelerated forward at a trots pace. It shifted, as the track began to become bumpy, and rusted. It must have been a while, for the young alicorn slipped off into a state of sleep.
He awoke, as there was an opening in the roof, shining the bright light of Luna’s moon onto his face. It was a big object. He hadn't ever actually seen it, due to him being locked in that castle for his whole previous life. The cosmos above echoing the brightness back at him, filling him with excitement and wonder. For a moment, the frost melted away from his eyes, as to give him a more personal perspective on the wonder, and splendor, of the fall night sky.
(Ti’s a rare thing to see his eyes, due to them being hidden behind frost, but for the moment, the frost melted away, exposing the eyes of the young alicorn. They were almost exact replicas of the constellations above. {for any of you who didn't read the prologue, or pick it up, you can see the stars in his eyes.})
He diverted his gaze to something else, which was moving. The frost came back over, and re-covered his eyes. The clanking of armor, and sound of marching soldiers was heard in the background. He was quick to make a magical staircase, which was all the way to the tip of the hole. He climbed them softly, as to not make so much as the tiniest of noises. If this operation of his were to fail, he would most likely not turn out on the better side of it. He rounded a corner, and took to the shadows. He had a spell, which would have made him invisible, but it wasn't quite ready for the field yet. He could only disguise himself, and somepony would see a cloak floating around, with no owner in sight.
He slid along the wall, like he was a spy, sneaking about to do his spy business. He rounded a corner, and went down an alleyway.
His plan was to slip onto a train, acting as somepony else child, and get off at the crystal empire, where he would stay with his cousin, Cadence. If that failed, he would just pay his way through. Celestia had given him money, for reasons that are completely unknown, and over the years it built up. Needless to say he was probably the richest pony his age.
Anyways, back to the topic: He slid down the alleyway, and around a corner. Trash was heaped up, and rotting outside some slum houses. The smell was petrifying, but the young alicorn shoved it aside, as he continued on his journey.
Some soldiers were searching abandoned houses, and apartments, looking for him undoubtedly. He continued on his journey, taking more caution than before. He didn't wish to get caught, not now, when he felt like he was so close. The train station was close, he could see it, through the gloomy streets, poorly light by the night lamps on either side of the street. He kept to the sidewalk, which was relatively dark.
He was well concealed, and could hardly be seen by any eyes looking for such, but of course, when there is a chance of being seen, your seen, (otherwise there is no real story).
“Hey!?! You!” Somepony with a deep voice and strong manehattan accent shouted.
Frost Bite pretended to not hear him, and continued, hoping he would bug off. But just to be safe, he pulled the hilt to a bladeless knife close to him. He blew on it, forming a shank of ice.
(If you're squeamish, skip down to the three stars)
The guard closed the distance between the two, at a trots pace. “Hey, you! Let me see your eyes.”
Frost looked down at the ground, and stopped walking. The guard lifted his hoof, and placed it heavy on the young lad’s shoulder. “Son, I just need to see...”
Frost Bite whirled around, and slit his breast plate. The guard began to fall to the ground, but not from blood loss. Ice began to slowly crystallize all over his body. Soon, (as in ten or so seconds,) he was a giant icicle, frozen, and unable to move, or scream for help.

Frost Bite was now in a hurry, it wouldn't be long before he was found. Then the area would be searched. But even worse, was that once the guard thawed out, he could tell everypony, from the haggard’s to Celestia. Fear had a firm grip all over him, as he began in a fast paced trot to the station. As if it were planned, and it was, a train pulled into the station, making all the noises a train does. It’s horn blew four times, letting any late night travelers know it was here. Somepony’s jolted up, out of their sleep, and rubbed their eyes.
Frost Bite observed some guards standing at attention at the entrance. The only way in, was to go around, and Frost Bite didn't wish to fly, for fear of his pelt glowing in the dark, and one of them seeing him. But like an angel in the night, a memory came, he could be invisible. He whispered his spell to himself, as he took off his jacket. It was the first time he had fresh air flowing through his wings in, ever. It felt so good, he wanted to fly.
“By day or night, I am alone, nopony can see me, I am hidden from all, though as present as day, I’m as absent as ghosts” And as if it were a blanket covering him, he disappeared into the night. Noiseless, and sightless, there was only one way one may find him, and that was if they bumped into him. (Now, there would be an overly excessive story if he got caught here, so he gets through).
He resorted to pushing his jacket in front of him, only fast enough to keep him moving, and not miss the train, while it was slow enough to not make a large enough sound to bother somepony.
One of the guards standing at the station had something in his ears, most likely foam, to stop any noises. If one got close enough, they would realize that this specific guard was asleep, for celestia knows what time it is. Frost Bite decided to slip past this one, in order to get this over with.
After this, there wasn't much action. He went into one of the public restrooms, and put back on the jacket, where he then continued to disable the spell. Then he went and got onto the train, and because of the time of night, it was completely empty, and he had it all to himself. He slept through the rest of the night, even though it was dangerous to do so. (Luna being the mare of the night and all.)
When he woke, it was just daylight, and the sun had just peeked its head over the mountains, which seemed to sparkle in the sun. The train was honking its horn, letting everypony within five kilometers know it had arrived. Birds chirped in the air, and a small breeze picked up, allowing the grass to sway, and bow to its might. It was a beautiful sight. His first time looking at a field like such. It was a pretty thing, to see for the first time, in real life, and not just some picture.
The train screeched, and came to a stop, where it blew its whistle once more, to let everypony know it was time to get off. Frost Bite followed somepony and his mare friend, making it seem that he was one of their offspring, or at least leaving the adults to assume that. Once they had cleared the station grounds, he broke away from the temporary tools, and continued off to the castle, where he would go to see his cousin, Cadence. He had it all planned out. He was just going to go and slip in through one of the windows, and find her somewhere about the castle.
Well, up to this point he had it all planned out. From his own interaction with her, she was very trustworthy, and wouldn't spill a secret for anything. He thought he could trust her, generally. He didn't forget to factor in the fact that anypony could go turncoat on you, but he didn't see it happening with Cadence. He trusted her fully.
He got clear of the crowd’s of pony’s waiting or walking about, where he took off his jacket, and made cut out holes for his wings. They could be sewed back up, and it was only for the time being.
His timeliness couldn't be more perfect than it was now. The end of October, and just before the winter started. He did wait until then, because he had started planning this escape quite some time ago. At least two months ago. Anywho, back on track.
He felt the nice breeze fill up his feathers, and he relaxed. It felt good, to fly outside a box made of thick stone and concrete.
He took to the skies, almost uncertain of his capabilities when it came to flight. For as he accelerated, and ascended, the drag from the wind became more and more. Not something to worry about, but at the same time, it was on the back of his mind. From the ground though, it just looked like a Pegasus on a daily flight. Nothing out of the ordinary. So he did it right, his first time at flight.
He circled the palace until he saw a balcony, where somepony’s were standing about. He didn't want to be seen as an alicorn, otherwise, whatever secret Celestia wished to keep would be let out, whether it be him, or his history.
He came in through a window, where he slipped his wings back into his jacket, and preceded to go find Cadence...
