Engineering Apples
Working on the field
Previous ChapterNext ChapterMe and Applejack had just placed about...hmm, four times fifty...two hundred! that's it. Two hundred baskets around the tree's. and we also had two carts with us.
"Alright. Now this is what ya gonna do. Ya chuck the baskets here onto one of them carts. And once ya feel its got enough, ya take it back to tha barn and grab another cart and come back here. Unless ya can get these apples down." She said with a challenging tone.
"Yeah, I could have a crack at it." I said as I walked up to a tree, I gathered my strength and did a roundhouse kick. I hit the bark hard enough that the apples all fell down. I was impressed, I looked back at Applejack whose jaw had been dropped.
"Impressed?" I asked, she shook her head and just gave me a glare.
"Fine, ya can help Applebuck." She said as she got on her fore hooves and hit a tree with her hind hooves. This made all the apples fall into the baskets. Now my jaw dropped, making Applejack put on her own smug grin.
"Impressed?" She asked, I chuckled and picked up the baskets.
"Well played." I said as I them into the cart. Applejack did the same.
We continued to 'Applebuck', and every time the cart was filled, we took turns of who would take the cart back and get a new one. Although throughout the time. Applejack would give me the same unwelcoming glare, like she was telepathically talking to me. 'Ya better watch out, human.' Soon we had cleared up almost every tree, I think we had taken about four carts back, this being our last. I also noticed that the sun was about to set. But as I threw a basket into the cart, I saw a rainbow blur headed straight for Sweet Apple Acres.
"Where did I see that before." I said to myself.
"When those ponies attacked you." My brain said.
"Oh yeah...I better hide." I said as I walked into a convenient bush that happened to be next to a tree.
"What in the hay are ya-" I heard Applejack say right before she cut herself off. She must of seen the blur to. I hide In the bush as I heard the conversation between Applejack and whatever the blur was.
"Hey Applejack" I heard the blur say.
"Howdy Rainbow, what are ya doing here." Rainbow? That...actually makes sense.
"Eh, i was just practising my awesome moves and decided to come and see how you were going."
"Nothin' much. Just another day at work." Applejack said.
"Yeah. Be the way, Have you heard that search party's are going after that human?" Oh. My. God. Why is the Princess Celestia so desperate to get me!?
"Uh, nope."
"I hope they get him. If I ever get my hooves on him I swear..." I heard what sound like cracking knuckles. But how can pony's do that? They only have hooves. Oh wait. Different world.
"Ha ha. Yeah."
"By the way. Tomorrow night me and the girls are going out for drinks. Wanna come?"
"Sure."
"Well, I gotta go. Later." The Pony called Rainbow said as I heard a flapping that slowly decreased in sound. I looked up to see only Applejack and a Rainbow blur in a distance.
"Who was that?" I asked.
"That was Rainbow Dash. She's a bit full of herself but she's pretty loyal."
"And determined to kill me." I said. I saw Applejack lower her head a bit before shaking it and giving me a glare.
"Come on. These baskets won't haul themselves." She said, I just sighed and started to chuck the last few baskets into the cart. Since it was my turn to push the cart, I got ready to go as Applejack chucked the last few baskets on.
"Can we go now?" I asked.
"Wait a minute." I heard her say, I then felt some extra wait on the cart. I went around to see Applejack in the middle on the baskets.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"Gettin' a ride. Now mush human!" She said as she pulled her hat down and laid back. I sighed and started to pull the cart back to the barn.
The sun had started to fall behind the barn as I pulled the last cart into place. As I let go of it, I walked out towards the farmhouse. As I entered I sat myself down on the couch as Applejack followed and walked upstairs. As I took my breath, Granny Smith popped out of the kitchen.
"Hey there Jack." She said to me.
"Hey Granny Smith." I said.
"So, how many did ya get?" She asked.
"Fifty trees, or about five carts worth of apples." I said.
"Boy howdy, that was a lot for today." She said.
"How much do you averagely get?" I asked.
"In about a week. Ah'd say two hundred trees. At least three hundred." She said. Man that is a lot.
"So does Applejack have to work everyday?" I asked.
"Nope. She can have about two days off. She usually goes off on weekends."
"Ah, okay." I said, just then Granny Smith went back into the kitchen and came out with a little brown bag.
"What's that?" I asked.
"Ya payment sonny." She said.
"I can't take this ma'am. You've given me a shelter, food and water. I don't need to be paid." I said.
"Are ya sure?" She asked.
"Yes." I said, she shrugged and placed the bag on a nearby table. She then walked up to me.
"Ya tired?"
"Yeah. Very." I said.
"Well don't ya worry. Dinner will be ready soon." She said as she walked back into the kitchen. I waited a while until Big Mac came through the door.
"Hey Big Mac." I said.
"Howdy." He said as he walked upstairs. I waited a bit more until Applebloom came in covered in mud.
"What happened to you?" I said as I got up and walked over to her.
"It's very hard ta get pigs ta stay still when ya cleaning them." She said.
"Looks like ya need a bath little filly." Granny Smith said coming out. She looked at me.
"Can ya clean her up Jack before dinner?" She asked.
"Sure, where's the bath?" I asked.
"Upstairs, first door on the left." She said right before leaving. I picked up the little filly and walked upstairs. I entered the room to find a bath, a shower, a sink and mirror. I placed Applebloom down and turned on the tap, letting the water pour into the bath.
As I turned it off, and the bath was filled. I grabbed the muddy filly, who had taken her bow off, and put her into the water. The some of the mud seemed to wash off.
I grabbed some nearby shampoo. I poured the shampoo into my hand and start to rub it into the fur, mane and tail. I noticed Applebloom giggle a little bit. Anyway, the mud seemed to start to come out. I started to grab some water and splashed it onto Applebloom. Causing her to giggle, and a grin grew on my face.
"So ya like that?" I asked, before she could respond, I splashed a huge amount of water on her, causing her to start laughing and rolling around in the water. I let the filly stand up again, it seemed all the mud had been washed off of her.
"Alright, out ya get." I said picking her up and placing her on the floor, I pulled out the plug and let the water out. And Applebloom seemed to have grabbed her towel.
"Can ya. Um...dry me of?" She asked.
"Sure." I said grabbing the town and drying of the little filly. Soon she was all dry.
"Thanks Jack." She said as she tied her bow up again.
"Soups on!" I heard Granny Smith call from downstairs. We both left the bathroom and walked downstairs. Applejack, Big Mac and Granny Smith where already sitting down with an apple pie on the table and on there plates. Me and Applebloom each took a seat. Granny Smith placed a piece of pie on our plates before sitting back down.
As we ate, the whole time Applejack gave me the same stare she had been giving me the entire day, so I didn't really pay attention to it. But anyway, once we had finished the pie, which was delicious. I decided it was time to go to sleep. So I said goodnight as I walked up to my room, put my bag down and got into my bed. I closed my eyes looking at the moon, although I swear, I thought something was looking at me. Question is, what was it?
