Chapter 3: The Griffon/Pony War

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

The very night of the council in Evesica, the ponies had agreed on what tactics were to be used. The ponies had never seen acts of violence so indeed there had been confusion on how to proceed. They decided to us the Unicorn Ponies to enhance healing power and destructive forces. The Earth Ponies were ordered to the act of archery and close quarters combat since they were the strongest. And the Pegasus Ponies were to set horrid weather upon the griffon’s side of the battlefield to disrupt them. With these plans set, the pony army had set out on a war whose results were all but certain. Outmanned and outnumbered the ponies were confident, despite all odds. They believed that the magic of determination is what will aid them in advancing through this war for anti-greed. Little did they know that their very own creator, Cybele herself, was going to aid in their desperation. She induced them with the ability to find out their unique abilities through the magic of imagery depiction. In the eyes of Cybele the easiest way to know who you really are is to find out yourself. Through this she created the Cutie Mark. These markings are the visual encryption of a ponies own self being. The image that appears on one’s flank shows what their special talent is. The first battle against the griffons took place on the small island of Elir. As they were traveling towards the first battlefield on a different island of Earth, an unfortunate misinterpretation of currents had occurred. This had sent the ponies in an uncertain direction. As they conceived this mistake as a curse, it as well was a blessing from Cybele. Due to this miscommunication with nature, the ponies had discovered the land of Eddona. This was a distant island in which refugees from Zebrica had immigrated. The Zebras were incredibly skilled warriors and were to aid the ponies in battle. Because they as well were forms of equine, they had chosen to aid the ponies in battle. Cybele also had blessed the Zebra race with the ability to earn Cutie Marks because of their aiding in the war. And so the two races set off toward Elir to face their fate. A few hours had passed and the ponies and zebras had arrived on the shores of Elir. The griffons looked fierce and ready to destroy anypony that came near them. Though the ponies were engulfed by fear, they had been determined to face these intense foes. The Zebras had no fear for death; for they had believed in the ability of reincarnation. The Zebras’ optimism sparked confidence in the ponies. The Zebras’ aid is what just might enable the ponies to have a chance against all odds. As the ponies, griffons, and zebras lined up for battle, King Lionheart had been seen on his throne atop a hill. He looked so determined that he would win; not an ounce of fear even existed on his grim look. Then at that moment it appeared as if time had stopped dead. It was the feel that all time had slowed as the king had shouted with a deafening roar, “ATTACK!” It was that moment where the first battle in all of Equine Rule had begun. The battle had been fierce. The pegasi had endowed the griffons with fiery rain and lightning had struck all those who remained unable to avoid it. The griffons were brutal for they didn’t fear loss one bit as the stampeded the ponies. The Earth Ponies really showed their true strength and courage that day, for they were able to face and even defeat griffons face to face. Their strength in the ability to stay accurate in archery had also been proven to be a gracious tool in maintaining distance between them and the unicorns who were aiding the wounded so quickly. The unicorns’ brains were unable to save all of them due to magic overloads. This caused quite an unfortunate downfall in the ponies’ strength. And finally, the Zebras were the most ruthless ones on the battlefield. They looked fear in the eye and challenged it. They were aiding the earth ponies in hoof to talon combat for the most part as well as making potions for the unicorns. They had proven themselves a very loyal and needed ally to the ponies. The griffons now seeing a chance at failure had stepped up their game. They had now taken on the skies as they attacked the pegasi. This is what had caused the griffons to push forward an offensive. The pony army could sustain a line of defense no longer as the retreated to their boats and balloons. Do keep in mind that this was simply the first battle; the whole war awaits its fate. As King Lionheart chuckled at the ponies’ feeble attempt to overthrow his army, he secretly felt compassion towards his own troops. As he stared at the wounded griffons he realized that the ponies do have some power after all. This is the mentality that had weakened his emotional depth. Over the course of three centuries these battles raged on. The ponies had surprisingly won a rather impressive amount of battles. This actually warmed King Lionheart’s heart as he had decided to impose a peace treaty. It read,

“Dear my opposing foes,
I wish to enlighten you that you have indeed proven yourselves as worthy opponents. This, to my demise, fills me with joy rather than anger. With this, I shall impose a truce between our races in return for a second chance. We wish to not live in the same place, but to be granted the right to come and go as we want. We also admire your ability to reason and wish to abide by it more often. Because of your great ability to reason, I suppose you will accept this offer humbly.

Signed,

King Lionheart”
The Pony Hierarchs had let out a grand cheer as they read this letter. They had agreed on the offer the second they finished reading. The Zebras, on the other hand, felt as though they were surrendering. Against the ponies will, the Zebras had fled from the Ponies’ side and set back to Eddona. The war had finally ended. The Griffons then found land to the eastern hemisphere of Earth in which they claimed their own. They had named this place Gryphus. Peace can now be re-achieved for the ponies.
