"Vinyl Scratch?" Looking up from the musical notes she was working on, the young mare flicked an ear towards the familiar voice of her secretary, as the younger greenish mare poked her head in.
"There's someone to see you," The other mare finished her sentence.
"Who is it?" Vinyl Scratch answered, wanting to get back to her music.
"A mare named Rarity, she's here to make a request." The greenish mare looked up from the clipboard in hoof.
"Send her in."
Moments later, a pearly white mare with an elegant mane walked in, her Cutie Mark consisted of three diamond gems.
"Hello, darling, nice to meet you," Vinyl Scratch nodded and muttered a 'Nice to meet you, too,' in return.
"I'm Rarity," Rarity stuck out her hoof, which Vinyl shook happily.
"So, what's up?" Vinyl asked.
"Well, dear, my friends' birthday is coming up, I'm sure you've heard of her," The white Unicorn rambled. "Princess Twilight Sparkle, and well, she's been a big fan of yours for so long and I was wondering. . ."
Vinyl Scratchs' mind went blank as she thought upon what Rarity had just said to her. No longer listening to the diva, she wondered off to her own little 'zone'.
Twilight Sparkle, the Twilight Sparkle, admired her works as a DJ. Vinyl thought back to when she played at a gig a few months back, it was a wedding she hadn't been invited to, but had been asked to play.
She had been drunk that day, her mind in a constant blur from the loud music, and the cider only making it worse.
'I wonder who got married. . .' Vinyl thought to herself silently, hoping to keep a stoic expression so her new client wouldn't know she had tuned her out.
'I believe I saw Twilight, but I can't be sure. . .That was some heavy cider. . .'
"Vinyl?"
She blinked.
"Huh-what?"
"I asked if you would like to DJ at the party." Rarity asked, leaning forward. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, fine. Sorry, thinking about music possibilities." Vinyl lied. Rarity nodded.
An awkward silence ensued for a few moments, before Vinyl remembered the question at hoof,
"Oh, yeah, sure, I'd love to. Next week, right?"
Rarity nodded, and looked at the clock beside the door,
"Oh my!" She gasped. "Look at the time, I must get going, it was nice meeting you, Vinyl, dear. Can't wait to hear you at the party!"
And with that, the elegant mare left, leaving Vinyl to take a few moments to think about what she had just agreed to.
Vinyl Scratch sat at the edge of her balcony, the stars twinkling down at her as she thought of all the problems at hoof. It seemed as though a billion thoughts raged through her mind. Looking up, the superstar glanced up at the stars, which were no more than darkened blurs of light to her, in her trademark sunglasses that she wore all the time, even at night.
She let out a long sigh, casting her gaze downwards, her head drooping. Tears began to gather at the base of her eyes, threatening to spill. They were burning hot with anger, but freezing cold with sadness.
Beneath her hooves was a piece of crumpled paper, the words smeared over time. She had planned to send it to her older brother several years ago, but she doubted he would care, if he even remembered her.
The letter was nothing important, more a note, really. It held five words, a comma, a period, and her name. There were more like it, longer ones, too, but they never got sent, either, and most likely never would.
She trotted around nervously on her balcony. The thoughts inside of her mind threatened to cause the tears to spill, her breath began to jitter as horrible thoughts penetrated her mind, horrible, awful thoughts that she never wanted to think about.
'I want to-No, I need to tell him.' She thought to herself, her frustration causing her to whisper angrily,
"I need to tell her, too! Celestia almighty, these things will never get sent. . ."
She shook her head, letting her blue spiky mane get tossed to the side, before walking inside, leaving the note to fly away or get rained on, it didn't matter to her.
Dear Shining Armor,
I exist
