Bubble Berry was at the Carousel Boutique bright and early, unusual for him since he usually preferred to sleep in. But this was a special occasion for him, as Elusive had created a new ensemble his latest party. “Are you ready to see it Bubble?” Elusive asked with a small chuckle, holding his hands over his friend's eyes as Bubble bounced hyperly.
“Yeah i'm ready to see it! Show me, show me, show me!!” Elusive laughed and removed his hands, revealing the bright pink tuxedo and top hat. Bubble Berry walked over and looked interestedly “hmmm...”
Elusive's smile faltered. “D-do you like it?”
Bubble nodded “Yeah...but can the top hat be a cupcake? With sprinkles?!” He looked excited and bounced as he asked “Huh? Can I, can I, can I?!”
Elusive frowned and shook his head firmly, “I'm sorry Bubble, but you MUST retain more class than that. I mean, seriously, a cupcake? It ruins the outfit.”
Bubble Berry stopped bouncing “But it's a PARTY outfit! It NEEDS a cupcake!”
“No!”
“Cupcake!”
“I said NO Bubble!”
“MAKE IT A CUPCAKE!” Bubble berry walked up, glaring at Elusive as he stood close.
Elusive pushed him away slightly “I said no, and that's the end of it!”
He turned away, or rather, started to before Bubble's punch sent him in the other direction. “It's MY outfit! You ARE going to make it a cupca-”
Bubble never finished the sentence as Elusive's fist connected with his jaw, sending him to the floor. Bubble jumped up immediately, blood trickling from his mouth as he glared at Elusive, whose left eye had turned black. Without a further word the two started hitting, kicking, and biting at each other, randomly yelling 'Cupcake!' and 'No!' throughout the altercation.
“Hey Elusive, I have that book you wanted on advanced stitchi- WHAT'S GOING ON?!” Dusk Shine's lavender magic encased the both of them, sending them to opposite walls.
“He wouldn't make my top hat a cupcake......”
“He wanted a CUPCAKE for a top hat! A CUPCAKE!”
Dusk sighed, another typical day with his sometimes erratic friends.
Bubble's Diary - I can't believe me and Elusive fought over a stupid top hat! I mean SERIOUSLY, A TOP HAT! But, I guess we're all silly ponies now and again, hopefully he's not still mad at me... Also...Something was...weird when we fought.... I didn't feel it at the first punch but..afterwards....it felt good....Not when he hit back......but when I hit HIM, when he crumpled beneath my fists as I held the power..the rage....as I hurt him......I feel terrible, but I loved it, more than any party.......Maybe Gummette can help me if I tell her....Unless she's mad at me for fighting....oh I don't know what to do anymore! - Bubble Berry
Elusive's Diary –
Journal entry # 236
I'm so, so just, disgusted with myself. I actually got in a fight! Not just that, but with a client. Oh, I guess it's just so hard to imagine, but with Bubble Berry! I hit my FRIEND! How low have I sunken? How far have I fallen to not only debase myself with such a barbaric act, but with someone I should never feel any need to harm. Though, if I'm entirely honest, I don't think I was even focusing on hurting him. I don't know how else to put it but, looking back. I could have definitely hit him harder. It was almost like I was trying to, bait him. It was like part of me just wanted it to go on, wanted to BE hit. What the hay is wrong with me?! Oh, dear. I think I need to rest. Perhaps Onyx will be able to comfort me. I couldn't have truly liked it, could I've? ~Elusive
Ch. 1: First Questions (CC)
Elusive and Bubble Berry went to their beds, resting only as much as their minds would allow them. As the night went on, they both had so many questions, the main one on both of their minds being: “How in Equestria could I have LIKED that?!”
The morning came and the two felt they simply had to make up for the fight. The main thought on their minds, however, was feeling bad for liking the fight. They couldn't shake how they felt personally, but they were very capable of assuring themselves that the other must have felt horrible over it.
Bubble Berry was nervous about going back to the boutique, and was almost as relieved as he was surprised to see the familiar purple mane and white coat walk through the doors at Sugarcube Corner. The thing that really caught his attention, though, was the blackened ring around the unicorn's left eye. There was something odd about it to him. It was a reminder of the fight, but it was also a slight reminder of how the fight made him feel.
Elusive gave a soft smile as he saw Bubble Berry, finally taking notice of just how unscathed the earth pony had gotten off, especially compared to himself. He felt odd walking in with his blackened eye and bruised face. It was only a few small bruises, but there wasn't a single one on his friend, and it brought a few questions that were rather quickly shoved away.
“Hello, Bubble Berry. Is there any chance we could talk about yesterday?” Elusive looked at the empty building, only open because of the cleaning and orders that have already been handled, leaving the stallions essentially alone for hours to talk. “You know, about the, uh, the fight?”
Bubble Berry scratched the back of his head as he made a bit of an awkward smile. “Yeah, I, uh, I think maybe we should.” He forced a chuckle before noticing just how badly he bruised the unicorn, and then how little he was bruised himself. His expression changed as it was obvious he was thinking. After a moment he spoke back up. “Hey, wait a sec.”
Elusive stopped, a bit nervous, entirely unsure of what had the earth pony was thinking. “Um, yes?”
“You have a black eye, and bruises. That's understandable. The thing is that I just realized that my knuckles are about the most sore thing on me.” Bubble Berry had a bit of an accusative look, though not intentionally.
Elusive froze. Before this, and in fact all night, he'd thought he hadn't really tried to fight back, but this essentially cemented the fact. He thought it over quickly and hurriedly tried to respond. “Oh, well, what about it?” He hoped he could buy some time with the question, but knew it would only push things further if he didn't act quickly.
Bubble Berry gave a slight, slow nod as he slowly stepped closer. “Well, I know you can hit pretty hard, probably harder than I can.” Elusive wanted to step back, but almost felt like he was walking closer as well. “Were you holding back or something?”
Elusive had no idea how to respond, so he just said what first came to his mind in hopes his nature was as close to instinct as he once figured. “I don't know. Maybe?” It took a second for this to sink in for the two, but Elusive was the first to get it, immediately regretting not thinking his words through. It took about a second after for Bubble Berry to get it. The look on his face told Elusive all he needed. They exchanged looks, a mix of confusion and mild understanding between them before Bubble Berry broke the silence.
“I'm sorry.” He felt there was little else he needed to say, or rather, that he could.
“No, I'm sorry.” Elusive wasn't sure why, but he wanted to antagonize his friend. He knew part of him wanted to see if he actually liked it, so he had to try.
Bubble Berry knew in the back of his mind he should have left it where it was, but something stronger was telling him to keep going, to take it further. “No. I'm the one that hurt you. I'm sorry.” He made sure there was a bit of aggravation in his voice.
Elusive stepped forward, subconsciously leaning in just slightly as he spoke. “And I shouldn't have kept it going, so I should be the one apologizing!”
“Why can't you just accept that I'm the one to apologize?!” Bubble Berry was leaning in, his face only inches away from Elusive's, both blushing very slightly.
Elusive couldn't hold back anymore, he couldn't say he was angry, but he had to make a move. He reached out and gave a shove, pushing back the pink stallion. He didn't push hard, but definitely hard enough, and it didn't take long to show through.
The push was all it took, as almost instantly Bubble Berry drew his arm back and punched Elusive with everything he could muster, though he felt there wasn't much anger in it.
Elusive stumbled and fell, not sure what to expect, but definitely not expecting such a blow. He wiped the blood from his mouth on his sleeve. The two looked to each other, but they saw the cakes coming back and quickly get themselves back into a more casual stance. The rest of the time was spent in an awkward silence, but their minds were far from quiet as they left each other's company.
Bubble Berry - I'm.....confused. Elusive admitted he was holding back in our fight the other day, and today it was...almost as if he was trying to start another one. Could...could he ENJOY me beating him? I mean, I know it sounds crazy and all, but it seems as if he tries to goad me into it. And I, I am happy to comply. I hate to say it.....but it's fun to hurt him....What's wrong with me?! - Bubble Berry

Journal entry # 237
What did I do? Did I just start another scuffle? Was I just trying to get Bubble Berry to, to hit me? More than that, I wasn't even angry that he hit me so hard. He knocked me to the floor and I didn't even care. I, I think I actually may have even, dare I say, LIKED it. I wonder... Is there a chance that Bubble Berry, maybe, likes hitting me? He seemed, how should I put it, happy? No, excited? No, no, no. Eager? Yes. He seemed eager about hitting me. He didn't seem like he was necessarily enjoying the idea, but he wasn't angry. I didn't see the anger from the first fight. I saw, well, I saw almost like a sparkle in his eyes as he pulled back. Whatever the case is, I know I felt something from that punch, and pain wasn't the end of it. I think I might want to try it again. I'm not sure. What if he doesn't enjoy it and I'm just being selfish? I don't know, I guess I need to pay more attention. I think I know, maybe I can test to see if it really hurts him to hurt me. If it does, I'll stop. If not... I can't say I would. Am I a bad person?~ Elusive
Ch. 2 Curiouser and Curiouser (GN)
Bubble Berry woke fitfully from a strange dream he had, his normally curly mane short and covering one of his eyes. He couldn't remember what the dream was about, he just had vague flashes. The glinting of chains. A reflection of himself in a knife. Elusive was there too. Although right now, Bubble was more concerned over how his mane flattened when he remembered the dream as rather pleasant. After a few minutes of thought, he shrugged and sat up, his mane curling again on it's own. As he yawned he looked over and noticed a plain white card marked with Elusive's cutiemark.
“What's this?” He opened the card and read the fancy handwritten script inside; it was an invitation to a picnic. He smiled, but he was also slightly confused. Why would Elusive, who lately seemed to be interested in nothing more than antagonizing him, want to go on a picnic?
Bubble frowned, come to think of it, 'Antagonize' wasn't the right word. The look on Elusive's face when Bubble hit him the day before was almost happy, but Bubble shook his head, confident he was misremembering. As he pushed away these questions and doubts, he instead smiled as he eagerly got ready for this opportunity to repair the rift that seems to have come between him and his friend.
Elusive smiled as he saw Bubble Berry bouncing towards him. “Hello Bubble!”
Bubble grinned and tackle hugged him “Hey Elusive!”
Elusive gasped and pushed Bubble off of him, brushing off his suit “Bubble! Don't get my suit dirt- er, I mean, hi to you too Bubble!”
Bubble Berry grinned and sat down "Thanks for inviting me to the picnic Elusive!”
Elusive smiled and began taking out the food from the picnic basket “It was no problem darling. I figured we could both use some time away.”
Bubble nodded and smiled “Yeah, it is nice to get away sometimes.” He began munching on his sandwich, a sharp contrast from Elusive's more restrained eating habits. “ I had a weirdo dream last night Elusive!” Elusive choked slightly and Bubble looked concerned
“Hey, you okay Elusive?”
He nodded “Oh, yes. Please continue Bubble.”
Bubble Berry nodded after a second, still worriedly eyeing his friend. “I don't remember most of it. I remember a really dark place, like a basement. I saw my reflection in a knife, my mane was flat and over one eye, and I was grinning. I remember you, smiling in a...defiant way if nothing else, like you were daring me to try something. Then I heard myself laughing and I woke up, my mane flat like it was in the dream. But-” He hesitated, wondering if he should admit to his enjoyment. “I, I kind of liked it.”
He looked up and saw Elusive nodding, trembling slightly. “Mmmhmm.”
Elusive nodded absently and Bubble looked worried, his mane flattening as he worried he had scared or worried his friend. "Are you okay?”
Elusive started “What? Oh! Yes! I'm sorry Bubble, I was thinking about, er, things. Yes, an order from a rather tricky client. Nothing you need to worry about.” He smiled reassuringly and Bubbles mane curled again as he smiled, reassured.
The picnic went off without a hitch, it was a bit quiet, but at the end of the day they left smiling, each with their own questions and worries, Elusive more than the other.
Elusive's Diary-
Journal entry #238
I don't know how I should feel. He basically just admitted to me today that at least a part of him is just like what I figured. He actually likes it too. It's very obvious now. I just, I'm unsure how I'm supposed to feel about such a revelation. How is one meant to feel when one learns a dear friend enjoys causing him/her pain? Is it normal to feel how I do? I don't know, I don't think so. I don't think it's right but... I think I like it. I think I want to know what else happened, and, I don't know, try it? Oh, Solaris! I can't truly mean that! Can I? Oh, dear, I think I'm losing it. I should probably rest. I just hope my dreams will be my own.~ Elusive
Bubble Berry's Diary- Today was weird. First I had that crazy dream and then Elusive invited me to the picnic and freaked when I told him about it. He tried to explain it off, but I know it affected him. I feel bad for these feelings i've had lately...I can't stop thinking about that dream, and I remember more and more about that dream.....It was me and Elusive, but he was tied up. The weird thing is, most would struggle in that situation, but he looked almost.....eager for something. I still can't remember anything more after I picked up the knife....it was a pretty knife, shiny and sharp...reminds me of one in the Cakes kitchens....They have a lot of knives, would they mind if I took that one? As something to...I don't know why I want it really...to look at it I suppose. It's funny, I've never thought a knife could be anything but pointy before, but now I want to stare at it, sharpen it, touch it, cut with it. Oh dear sweet Solaris what's happening to me?!!?! I don't know, and Gummette is out of ideas too....I think i'll go stare at the knife now, maybe bring it back to my room....- Bubble Berry.
Ch. 3: Popping the Bubble (GN)
Bubble Berry giggled as he stroked the knife. He was laying on his bed in the darkness, licking his lips as he remembered the dream, cutting Elusive and drinking his blood like a crimson punch. He had decided last night not to fight this anymore. It was who he was, and it was wrong to deny what you are right? So he embraced the darkness, questioning not why he enjoyed causing pain, questioning only when and how he could do it next. He missed it, he missed Elusive. He yearned to once more hurt his friend, but this time with his knife. He was eager to show off the new him to his close friend, and he hoped Elusive liked Berryswainer as much as he liked Bubble.
Bubble's Diary- I've finally realized who I am! It was silly of me to fight it earlier. This is part of my identity. I don't know why I enjoy it, but I love hurting Elusive. I know he'll love it too, or at least, I hope he does. But eh, i'll figure that out when I get to it. In the meantime, I've decided I don't like the way Bubble Berry sounds. Elusive has far more elegant tastes, and I don't want him thinking I'm silly when I try to have fun...perhaps i'll go back to my old name.....Yes, that's more to Elusive's tastes, I know he'll love the new me- Berryswainer Amadeus Bubble.
Ch. 4: The Elusive Truth (CC)
Elusive had done some looking into what he thought was wrong with him. It led him to the place he knew he would likely end up in a search for knowledge on anything, but he'd hoped it would have been another library. Elusive took a deep breath as he stepped forward and knocked on the door to Dusk Shine's library, his mind whirling about enough to have needed days to actually process, though in reality only moments passed before he was brought back by a slightly worried looking unicorn.
“Wow, still got that black eye, huh Elusive? You want a book on how to get that to go away?” Dusk wasn't sure how long they were supposed to stick around, considering he'd never had one himself, but he didn't think they lasted about four days.
Elusive had gotten so used to the blackened ring around his eye, more from his being more concerned about bigger things than from his trying to overcome the change in his face. He wanted to reach and touch it, but caught himself and instead smiled a bit before speaking. “Oh, this? It's nothing. Should be gone before the end of the week. But since you mention a book, I am looking for one. I heard it was in the library here.”
Dusk almost instantly lightened up and smiled as he pulled Elusive inside the library, happily levitating books from their shelves, reading off titles excitedly before Elusive stopped him. “Uhm, Dusk, darling, I'm looking for a very specific book. If I remember it's called, um..” Elusive trailed off as he thought over how to ask for the book, but soon decided to just throw the dignity card out the window. “I'm looking for The Book on Pain and Punishment, the one by the famous gimp from years back.” He stood calmly, but firmly.
Dusk froze, his horn no longer glowing as the books all fell to the floor before he whipped around, mouth agape. “Wh-what book? I'm sorry, but I could have sworn you just asked for the most fucked up book in the library.”
“I believe you heard correct. I want The Book on Pain and Punishment.” Elusive didn't seem nervous, or even as though he may have confused the title. He seemed to know exactly what he was asking for, and that was what made Dusk a bit uncomfortable pulling the book from its place on the shelf and floating it to his bruised friend.
Elusive opened the book to the section he knew to be what would either explain what was happening or send him on yet another wild chase, but he soon found it was the former. His eyes widened as he read through the chapter about how the author had first discovered his masochism from a short scuffle with a friend, and that was all he had to see to convince himself, but he knew that the book would be his best way to explain things with Bubble Berry... Why was he the first thing to come to mind now? Deep down, Elusive knew why, but he only smirked as he asked to checkout the book. Dusk agreed and Elusive left for his boutique, though he made sure to slide a special card under the door of his favorite bakery on his way.
Elusive's Diary-
Journal entry #239
I've done it. I've set the wheels in motion. I've also learned what I once feared would be true. Now though, now I'm glad it is. I would love to expand on the plan, but I simply can't wait to see the sun rise, so I'm off to bed. I hope I was right about Bubble. If I am, then tomorrow can't come quickly enough.~ Elusive.
Ch. 5 The End of the Beginning. (GN,CC)
Berryswainer awoke early, he couldn't sleep much, as his dreams wouldn't let him. He yawned and stood, his mane now permanently flat, but he didn't mind. He liked the new style. He got dressed and went downstairs for something to eat, but then he noticed a note from Elusive. He opened it and read:
“Dear Bubble Berry,
I would like to invite you to my boutique. I know things have been a bit strained between us lately, so I wanted to see if we could talk some things over. I have something I want to show you, and I hope you've something to show me as well. If you wish to, I shall have my doors unlocked shortly after dawn, and I've informed all of my clients that I am taking a short break from work, so we will have neither distraction nor worry.
Yours truly,
Elusive”
Berryswainer smiled, he put the note in his pocket and grabbed the knife he now took everywhere, twirling it as he walked to the Carousel Boutique, interested to see what Elusive had in store for him, and wondering what he himself had in store for Elusive.
Elusive was taking deep breaths as he readied, unsure how long it would be before Bubble Berry showed up. He had the book out in the open, practically beaming towards the entrance to his store. He hoped that would be enough to start things off. He had the whole first few minutes planned out in his mind. He would open the door, Bubble would notice the book and smirk. There would be a short moment of silence as Bubble would turn around an--
Elusive was brought back from his thoughts by a knock at the door. He was surprised at first, his first thoughts being that he shouldn't have a client so early, but soon remembered the only pony that would be knocking on the door today would be the one he was waiting on. As he looked through the peep hole, he smiled, as he was not disappointed.
He opened the door and examined Bubble's new appearance with interest “Hello Bubble Dar-”
He was cut off by Bubble raising his finger and saying softly “It's Berryswainer now. I decided to use my real name. Berryswainer Amadeus Bubble.”
Elusive nodded. “Alright....Berryswainer.”
He smiled and Berry noticed the book floating in air “What's that? Did you invite me over just to read to me?”
“Hmm?” Elusive looked to the book and chuckled inwardly. “Oh, no Bu- Berryswainer. Though, I must say, I found it such a delightful read I couldn't put it down all night.” He smiled and closed the book, the title now easily legible. He closed the door behind Berryswainer and locked it. “I was, however, hoping to get your opinion on it.”
Berryswainer nodded as he looked at the title, intrigued. “Alright Elusive, i'll skim a bit and tell you what I think.” He picked up the book and flipped through the pages an interested look on his face. “Hmmm. Quiet the interesting read. But it's not really my thing. Got any books about hurting other ponies instead of being hurt by them? That's more my speed.” He smirked in a playful manner.
Elusive smirked as well as he stepped closer to Berryswainer. “Well, I apologize for the lack of fitting literature, but I don't believe such a book is quite my speed.” Elusive was planning to bait Berryswainer into a short, very one-ended brawl, but a glint from something caught his eyes, stopping him a few steps away. He thought for a moment it may have been just his imagination, but it took only one moment more before his imagination was what he'd hoped was right as he raised his eyes with a more defiant smirk than before.
Berryswainer looked confused “What?” He traced Elusive's gaze and saw the knife glinting from his pocket, which he pulled out and started playing with “I see you like my toy.” He took a step forward, the blade pointed at Elusive as his heartbeat quickened, not daring, not hoping, to even imagine the rout e this course of action might take.
Elusive's breathing became less controlled as his heartbeat sped. He saw the knife in full view and then the look in his friend's eyes. His imagination whirred for a few moments before his smirk vanished, replaced by a calm smile. “Oh, I believe you misunderstand. I don't simply 'like' things, darling. I love them.” With that he covered all but a few inches of the remaining space between them, letting his arms rest behind him, his posture as open as he could comfortably be while standing, his stare still defiant. His eyes still daring his friend to let go, to let this unfurl.
Berryswainer grabbed his friend by the throat, grinning as he traced the knife over his cheek “This is my favorite toy, so I love it too. Why don't I show you how to play with it?” His smile became sadistic as he chuckled, tracing the blade over Elusive's cheek, the tip penetrating skin and carving a shallow heart into his flesh. With this symbol, the last vestiges of doubt, and possibly sanity, were expunged from Berryswainer, committing him to his new identity without a regret as the sight of blood made him sharply intake his breath in anticipation, licking his lips as he salivated at the thought of tasting the warm, crimson, salty, and probably delicious liquid.
The feeling of the steel knife slicing his cheek was like something Elusive had never felt before. Sure, he'd made many a mistake when sewing, pricking himself, nicking his hands or his arm, even slicing his finger open while preparing a meal, but never did it feel like this, never had it felt so good. He tried to hold back his response physically and looked to see the expression on his friend before feeling the blood trickling from his new wound. He smirked as he could hardly help his response, though you could hardly say he tried to either. “Not to be rude, but I believe I always told you how much I hate getting my suit messy. You aren't about to let it get stained, now are you?”
Berryswainer grinned with a mischievous idea at his friends words. He bent close, whispering as he licked the wound, the blood tasting as good as he had imagined. “Of course not dear Elusive. Though, your going to be bleeding a lot more, so it might be a good idea to divest yourself of anything you wish to stay clean.” Elusive blushed and grinned, happy with the way things had turned out as he magically closed all the windows, enveloping them in the embrace of perfect darkness, and ensuring no prying eyes would see them. Oh yes, this was a fun day indeed.
Berryswainer's diary- Today was...wow...just..just wow. I don't have any other words for it. Is this how love feels like? When you want to carve your name into somepony's flesh, to make them carry a heart on their skin forever as a reminder of you? To want to be a part of them...forever? It's how I feel about Elusive....We have so much fun together, I was dissapointed when I had to return home, but we promised to do it again sometimes. In the meantime, I need to find....supplies. - Berryswainer Amadeus Bubble
Elusive's Diary-
Journal entry #240
Words simply cannot express this day. I finally owned up to what I am, and, I must say, it was glorious! I've never felt so alive in my life. The first cut was amazing, but then it just got better. I found some rope for him, but tangled it a bit so I'd have time to undress. I know it irritated him a little, but even I had to have a little fun. I think he noticed I'd done it when I laughed... He made sure to make up for the time lost. I'm not complaining a bit. The first thing he did after he tied me up was ask if I had anything I wanted to try. I haven't the slightest clue why, but I asked for him to hit me. He was a bit confused, so I told him to 'refresh' my blackened eye. He gave that devilish grin of his and gave me what I asked for. It still stings, and I love it. I do kind of wish I could've had a chance to start that 'fight' though. I must say the hit was quite dry without the rush from before. Again though, not that I'm complaining. I certainly felt much more force with this one. He didn't hold back a bit. Should I feel so aroused by the thought of him beating me senseless? Does it matter? Why do I care? If he does, I won't complain. I won't resist. If he doesn't, I'm sure it's just to make sure I'm awake for whatever else he has plans. I think I'll have to have him back over soon. Oh, maybe I can teach him to stitch. That way if he cuts too deep he can make sure I don't bleed out. I wonder if he'll make it painful. Maybe he can cut deep just to stitch me up? Too many ideas, too little time. I need to go clean up my blood anyways. Maybe try to stop the bleeding. I can't have my bed sullied, afterall.~ Elus- Lil' Sir Elusive
