Chapter 1:

It Was Found in That Forest

Princess Celestia and two of her guards stood at the entrance to the Everfree forest. “Captain, please read me the report again” the Princess asked the guard on her right.

“Yes, your majesty” the Captain said pulling out a scroll from his saddlebag. “According to the report, the ponies from the nearby town of ponyville have been hearing odd noises coming from the forest at night. They say it sounds a lot like a foal crying, but most are too scared to look. Those that do try all seem to get turned around and end up back here.” The Captain said then closed the scroll and put it back in his saddlebag.

Celestia looked into the forest. “Ok, let’s go then” she said walking in to the forest. The two guards tensed but followed after her. As they walked the princess used her magic the move the sun past the horizon and start bringing up the moon.

Now a ways the group could now hear the crying that was reported by the ponies of Ponyville. Celestia took off at full speed towards the sound deeper in to the forest. Her guards tried to keep with their princess, but soon lost sight of her. The two guards soon found themselves back at the entrance to the forest. Celestia kept going through the twists and turns the forest leads her though.

Celestia soon found herself in a clearing. The crying seemed to be coming from nearby.  She turned around to find she had lost her guards and the path being blocked by trees. “DO NOT WORRY worry ABOUT YOUR GUARDS THEY they ARE FINE. WE HAVE LEAD lead THEM BACK TO THE ENTRANCE entrance.” A voice called out from everywhere yet nowhere.

Celestia turned back around “forest why are you scaring the ponies of the nearby town with the crying”

“THE CRYING WAS NOT US us, BUT THE CHILD!” The forest said

There was an orb made of branches at one end of the clearing. Celestia approached the orb. Some of the branches moved, opening the orb. The crying seemed to be coming from the orb. She peered inside. Inside the orb lying on a blanket was a small pink creature with only a little bit of a mane and no hair anywhere else on it. It was also wearing small bits of clothing. “Where are this being’s parents?” Celestia asked

“THEY ARE DEAD dead, OUR INHABITANTS DID NOT TAKE TO KINDLY kindly TO THEM!” the forest said.

Celestia looked back in to the orb her eyes filled with sadness. She reached into the orb with her hooves and pulled the crying being and cradled it like a newborn foal. Celestia started singing softly.

“Come stop your crying

It will be alright

Just take my hoof

Hold it tight

I will protect you

From all around you

I will be here

Don't you cry”

The small child stopped crying and now looked up at her with deep blue eyes. Celestia smiled down at him then looked out in to the woods. “Forest what should he be called?” she asked the forest

“HE he, HAS A NAME name, THE PENDENT pendent, HAS HIS NAME ON IT!” the forest called back Celestia looked again in the orb to find the pendent laying there. Inscribed on the pendent was the word Brian.

Celestia smiled at the child. She turned and went to leave. “ BE CAREFUL, careful, AND RAISE HIM RIGHT, right, FOR WE HAVE SEEN WHAT HIS KIND, kind, IS CAPABLE OF” the forest said as Celestia left the clearing. The trees parted leading her back to the exit.

As Celestia exited the forest, the guards came rushing up to her.  “My lady, are you alright?” One of the guards asked.

“I am fine” Celestia said with a gentle smile.

One of the guards noticed the bundle that Celestia carried in her wing. “Princess, what is that your carrying?” he asked
