Cod let out a content sigh as he was now able to fish alone and in peace.  The sound of the nearby birds singing as a soft breeze rustled the leaves of the trees helped him relax after his rather interesting day in this, supposedly, quiet town.  He reached into his bag and pulled out a small bell that was attached to a clothes pin and clipped it onto the end of his fishing pole, effectively being able to alert him should he doze off, which he intended to do.

About twenty minutes later, Cod was fast asleep on the bench with his equipment nearby.  As he snored softly a rustling was heard in the bushes as a small figure snuck out towards the bench, leaning towards the stallion to ensure he was asleep.  Quite satisfied when a snore met their ears they moved to start looking through his bag for anything of value, only to be disappointed by all the fishing equipment,  clothing obviously too big for them, and a jar that emitted a foul odor, even when tightly shut.  Deciding it best to just leave they got up to walk away, only to trip over the pole that was propped up against the bench, causing it to fall with a clatter and the bell to ring.

Cod’s eyes shot open as he heard the bell and he reached to grab his pole, only to find it missing, he looked down to find his pole on the ground, with young filly lying across it with a scared expression on her face.

The filly’s coat was a dark navy blue that could easily conceal her in the shadows, her mane was a black spikey mess similar to a mohawk going down the middle of her head, her tail being a simple straight style.  She wore a black denim jacket with a grey cotton hood attached to it, giving it a layered effect, and a pair of plain jeans that had noticeable stich-work done to them, showing it got the job done, but wasn’t necessarily an expert stich like Rarity’s work.

Cod quirked an eyebrow down at the filly and leaned down offering a hand to help her up.

“You alright there little miss?” he asked as the filly eyed his hand cautiously before grabbing it and letting the stallion pull her up to her hooves,  when she stood up straight her head came up to just under Cod’s chest, if you counted her mohawk .

“Uhm….yeah I’m fine….I uhm….didn’t see your pole is all.” she chose her words cautiously, hoping he didn’t notice her rummaging through his things.  She didn’t necessarily plan on stealing anything, she was mostly just curious.

“Well just be more careful alright?  Coulda tangled my line up and made a rat’s nest of fishin’ line….an’ lemme tell ya kiddo, they are a bitch to take care of.” Cod replied as he picked his pole back up and propped it up against the back of the bench before sitting back down and letting out a yawn.

The filly shifted her weight back and forth on her hooves nervously before sitting down next to Cod and twiddling her thumbs idly.

“So….what are you doing anyways Mister?” she asked as she eyed him a and his fishing pole a bit.

Cod glanced over to the filly and smiled “Just fishin’…I am a fisherman ya know.  My name is Cod Piece, how ‘bout you?”

The filly looked up at him and smiled a bit “I’m Stormy….Stormy Night….and why would a pony need to be a fisherman?  Ponies don’t normally eat fish you know.”

Cod chuckled and shook his head in a way that said ‘I thought you might ask that’.

“Well most ponies would think that, but I don’t sell fish to ponies, I sell them to Griffons, Diamond Dogs and sometimes if I’m lucky a young dragon.”

Stormy eyed him suspiciously, clearly skeptical that he had successfully sold fish to diamond dogs or dragons, griffons were believe-able since they often visited Equestria and got along with ponies a bit easier than other species.

“You’ve sold fish to diamond dogs and dragons?.....Ok if you say so.” She said before sitting there silently, creating somewhat of an awkward silence between them.

Cod reeled in his line to check the hook, letting out a sigh as it had been picked clean, he looked to see the sun was getting close to setting so with a sigh he attached the hook to a loop on his pole and reeled up the excess line, starting to pack his things.

“What are you packing up for?  Don’t you have to keep fishing to….get fish?” she asked curiously as he continued packing his things.

“Can’t catch the fish that are ‘in season’ at night, too cold fer them to be active enough to be caught.” He explained in a matter of fact way.

“But I thought fish didn’t sleep?  And how can fish be in season?” she asked, scratching her head a bit.

“Well that’s true, fish don't sleep at all, but certain fish are active at certain times, some during the day when the water is warmer an' clear, an’ others are more active at night when the water is cooler and there is less light to give them away to other fish or predators that would eat them.  The summer season is great fer certain types of fish becase of they way they taste and the texture of the meat, mostly catfish, trout and bass.”

“You sure know a lot about fish Mister Cod Piece.”

Cod laughed a bit before ruffling the filly’s mane up, causing her to pout a bit before fixing it.  “Well if I’m gonna make a livin’ on fish I sorta have to know about ‘em.”

Stormy shrugged and watched him pulls his backpack onto his shoulders and grab his bucket and fishing pole.  Following him as he walked off, filled to the brim with questions about him and what he does.  Only now did she start to hear a voice in the distance growing slightly louder as it got nearer.

“WoooooooooooohooooOOOOOOOO!!!!!!”

A rush of wind caught Stormy and Cod off guard as a cyan pegasus with a rainbow trail following her flew past at high speed, almost knocking Cod off of his hooves.

“What the hell was that?!” Cod shouted, slightly miffed that the careless flyer almost knocked him down for what would be the fourth time that day.

Stormy chuckled and watched the trail of colors darting around the sky.  “Oh that’s just Rainbow Dash, resident daredevil and all around awesome mare.”

“You forgot rude…..” Cod grumbled as the pegasus shot back towards them, flaring out her wings to come to a stop in front of the stallion, a smug grin on her face.

Getting a better look at her, she appeared to be just a head and a half shorter than him, with a trim toned body, only a true athlete could sport.  She was wearing a pair of black training shorts and a cyan sports bra.

“Hey there, hope you enjoyed the free show as a way to say welcome to town…please hold your applause.” She crossed her arms with an even smugger smile plastered across her face.

Cod rolled his eyes and walked past her without so much as a response.  Rainbow obviously did not take it very well as she turned and glared at him before shooting past him and turning around in front of him to stop him.

“Hey! It’s rude to ignore someone as awesome as me you know!  Especially when I gave you such an awesome air show out of the kindness of my heart!” she barked at him angrily with a piercing glare.

“Well then you should know it’s rude to almost knock some innocent bystander over by flying past ‘em at mach 4!” he barked right back at her, causing her to gasp then shove him, causing him to fall onto his backside.

“Watch what you say to me bud!  I’m not afraid to knock your teeth out!” she said as she grabbed his shirt collar adn glared fiercely into his eyes.

“Hey knock it off you two!” both ponies looked down to see Stormy worming her way between them, and pushing them apart, being surprisingly strong for a filly of her size.  “Dash you shouldn’t be so mean to Mister Cod Piece, I mean you did almost knock him over when you flew past….” She said.

With a groan Rainbow dash rolled her eyes and held her hand out to Cod Piece.  Cod Piece eyed her hand suspiciously but grabbed it, letting the mare help him up.

“Uhm….I’m sorry ok…” Rainbow apologized not quite sincerely as she looked away from him frowning slightly.

“….Just be a bit more careful next time….and not so rude.”  Cod replied as he let go of the mare’s hand.

Rainbow Looked past him at Stormy and pretended to look at a watch she wasn’t wearing.

“Oh uh…look at the time! I gotta get going bye!” she shouted as she darted off into the sky, leaving behind the fisherman and mischievous filly.

That stallion better watch what he says around me….plus he smells funny….
