Equine Misfortune

John's eyelids slowly lifted up to reveal a messy house. There was furniture strewn everywhere, but his enchanting table seemed fine. He tried to get up on his feet, but as soon as he got up, he toppled right back over. He rubbed the sore spot on his head and sat up. As he sat on his messy floor, it slowly dawned on him that something was not right. He lifted a hand up to his face, and what he saw horrified him. his hand wasn't a hand anymore. It was a hoof.

"What the hell?"

He got up on all four of his hooves and raced to the bathroom. He stood in front of the full length mirror and screamed. John Pixylburg was officially a horse. He flattened his ears and backed away, but as he did, he noticed two strange appendages flare open. He gasped at the sight of his wings.

"I'm in deep shit," John said to no one in particular, "Notch help us all..."

John knew that the villagers would not take his transformation into a pony very lightly. They would likely be frightened, and imprison the "monster." Who wouldn't be surprised at the sight of a winged horse?

The miner-pony took another look at himself, but this time he looked at a side view of himself. On his flank, he noticed a strange mark that looked like an enchanting book and a diamond sword. John was perplexed. Horses don't have tattoos on their butts. Curious, the stallion inspected his equine form closely. He had a sepia body that sported a teal mane and hazel eyes.

With a sigh, he sat down on his couch. A distinct rumbling noise came from John's bowels, so he got up to go get some food. He grabbed some steak from his inventory and bit into it. There was only one problem, though. John couldn't chew his steak. He didn't know whether it was his new dull vegan teeth or the meat itself, but life simply would not allow him to eat the tough meat. With a frustrated grunt, he put the steak back and replaced it with a mushroom.

As John ate the spotted fungus, he thought about what he should do now that he was a pony. Where would he go? He couldn't stay here. The villagers probably wouldn't accept the fact that there was a magical flying horse in their town. (Notch only knows what they would do to him) John scowled and got up from his seat.

"Screw it, I'm leaving this place," the stallion said.

He gathered up his valuables (enchantment table, books, crafting table, etc.) and trotted down the stairs to the first floor.  As soon as John stepped outside of his house, people noticed his winged equine body. Before he could react, he was shoved down from behind and grabbed by a few villagers. John whinnied in protest and tried to break free of their grasp, but he was just hit with a hoe. The people of Minetown tossed John into a small building with iron bars for walls. The Mintown Prison.

John whimpered and walked up to the solid iron door that lead to the outside world. He pawed at the ground with his hooves and grunted.

"What the hell was that for, guys?! It's me, John!"

The villagers stared at him, astonished that he could speak. Some of them shook their heads, not believing his words. After the people had recovered from his outburst, they began to discuss what they should do with John.

One miner angrily pointed a finger at John. "It's a demon! We must destroy this abomination!"

"No, this is a gift from the great Notch! We can't kill it," a priest countered.

As the people argued, John snapped his attention towards the iron golems guarding the prison.

"Psst," John whispered. One of the golems glanced at John. "You gotta help me out! If you could get me out of he-"

"No," the iron entity interrupted him before he could finish.

John was taken aback by the fact that an iron golem actually defied him. The iron golems in town were the only creatures that actually respected John. He wasn't used to being turned down by one. Heartbroken, he sulked back to the far right corner of the cage-like building.

A few kids came by that day. Some of the girls tried to pet him through the bars, but John didn't try to stop them. He simply did not have the will to avoid them. The boys on the other hand, threw rocks and other things at him. As with the girls, he took his punishment without resistance.

Around sundown, a small boy about eight years of age came by the prison to visit John. John twitched an ear to acknowledge the boy's presence, but did not show any signs of interest in whatever the boy was going to do.

"Go ahead and mock me," The sepia pegasus said. "I don't care what happens anymore."

"Not even freedom?"

That caught John's attention. He looked up at the child with uncertainty in his hazel colored eyes.

"I'm listening," John said.

"I could come up with a plan to get you out of here," the boy said. "It's easy. I'll just distract them while you're being taken to the square for your execution."

"My what?"

"Your execution?"

"Yeah, that," John replied. "Why do they want me dead?"

"First off, my daddy convinced the villagers that you were one of Herobrine's creations, and needed to be killed."

John knew exactly who had said that.

"Samuel Perk," he said. "You must be Terry Perk."

"Yeah, that's us! How did you know?"

"I know this because your father is the merchant that convinced me to trade my four diamonds for his broken music disk. That man has a way with words. Don't trust him, kid."

"Wait," the confused boy looked at John and cocked his head. "How could you trade with my dad? You're a... horse with wings."

John sighed. "I'm not really a horse. I'm a pegasus, and I was a miner named John Pixylburg until thirteen hours ago, when I accidentally changed myself into a mythological equine animal."

Terry's eyes lit up. "You're John? Wow! I've always wanted to meet you! You're the coolest person here! I've always wanted you to teach me about fighting mobs."

John felt a warm feeling envelope his weary heart. At least someone in this town actually liked him (other than the iron golems).

A voice called from somewhere, and the boy got up.

"That's my mom," the child said. "I've gotta go home and eat dinner. Don't worry! I'll be back tomorrow to help you."

As Terry raced off, John settled down on the cold stone floor. he had no idea where he was going to go, or what he would do. He sighed and closed his eyes. As he drifted off to sleep, he came to a realization. He was going to have to find a place where he could live with other pegasi. A place without miners. A smile bloomed on his face at the thought of flying free with the other pegasi, without a care in the world.
