Day 730

December 31, 2526

Christoper John Wayne

"Huh, is this working?"  a man asked as a camera was in his hands.

After fumbling it a bit for a few seconds, he stared into the camera and saw it was recording. Placing it down, he began to speak.

"This is Christoper John Wayne, Day 730 on Project Forty." the tall man said as the bag in his eyes showed the signs of tiredness. "2 years ever since we started on his project, we have actually gotten a breakthrough!!"

The man went into a bright smile as he held the camera up.

"I'm not really allowed to show you him or the details of the breakthrough," the man said, his voice dropping low. The man then leaned closer to the camera and whispered, "...but I'm going to show you."

The camera then captured the man hiding the camera underneath his white coat and a lot of movement. After a few seconds the man was quickly brought up to show the man's face.

"Alright, Project Forty is an amazing project that combines with genes and computer programs," the man said as he began to walk quickly.

His voice was dropped to a whisper as he talked on.

"Forty is an amazing creation. He looks like and can act like a human," the scientist continued on. "But a computer program in real life is like having the power to change the code of reality. Forty can use his core to generate electricity to use to fuel up electronics or to kill."

The man looked around a bit before walking around a corner.

"Imagine that. Unlimited fresh energy and a supersoldier ready to fight through electronics." he said as a gigantic door slowly slid open. "And that's not it, we've installed other program options for him to use. For that, I'm going to keep my mouth shut."

A sound that sounded to be a generator started to hum as the camera was shifted towards a large white cylinder.

"That contains Forty." the man said as he placed the camera down on a flat surface. "Right now, he's inside a supercomputer prison."

The scientist clicked a few buttons and then finally pulled a lever.

"I feel horrible for him though..." the man said as he wiped the sweat off his forehead with a sleeve. "To him, a week for him is a day to us. As one day, 24 hours, pass for us, he experiences a week, 168 hours."

Pulling the safety on, the scientist talked on.

"So there's about 30 days in a month. Well, a month for him is about 210 days." the man said, his voice sounding a bit pitiful. "In actuality, two years passed since we worked on Forty. With basic math: he's 2-years-old. But with this math, he's actually 14-years old. 14 fucking years in a prison with no idea who they are, or how they got there. Now A.I.s don't develop from a early stage. For us, babies. Butterflies, the caterpillar. And so on and so forth."

The scientist then brought the camera up to his face.

"He has the body of an adult and the mind of a child. Forty is in a status where he's living all that useless time. Imagine an 8-year-old child trapped in a tight room for a very long time. But - with a body capable of destruction and raw power? The little boy would become insane and use that power to unleash his anger and frustration."

The man sighed.

"We're... developing a dangerous virus. Now what kind of virus? Now, the virus will not be an A.I., but it will be a nano one. We're going to infect part of Forty's core program to harness his unbelievable power for many different uses. What I hope not is war."

The man looked at a screen below and started to tear up.

"I wish I could free him, I really do..." the man said as he wiped the tears away. "I wish we did this the humane way. Bringing up Forty as a human being..."

Looking at the camera he said a few last words, "But it's too late now. Forty is unstable and will destroy anything in his way..."

On the screen, a figure the size of a grown man sat on the ground as time moved quickly for him. Time seemed to fast forward to the figure, the figure being Forty. Below on the corner of the screen read the time:

13:12:51:31:23:59:50:43:23:11

Years: Months: Weeks: Days: Hours: Minutes: Seconds: Milliseconds: Microseconds: Nanoseconds

The scientist waited a little bit as the time continued on for the imprisoned A.I.

13:12:51:31:23:59:59:45:25:14

Years: Months: Weeks: Days: Hours: Minutes: Seconds: Milliseconds: Microseconds: Nanoseconds

Time slowly counted down as a new year started...

14:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00

Years: Months: Weeks: Days: Hours: Minutes: Seconds: Milliseconds: Microseconds: Nanoseconds

"Happy New Years and Birthday, Forty..." the scientist whispered as time continued on.

He closed his eyes and lowered his head as a tear slowly fell down.

But for just a moment, the time flashed to something rather odd.

01:23:01:11:05:14:9:14:7:00

Years: Months: Weeks: Days: Hours: Minutes: Seconds: Milliseconds: Microseconds: Nanoseconds

Before the scientist even opened his eyes, the numbers went back to normal.
