“Nova, this is the last time I am telling you to wake up!” A shaded grey pegasus, known as Shadow Breeze, nearly shouted. “Your mother has breakfast on the table!” Shadow said, banging on his son’s door.
Nova groaned, covering his face with his pillow. “Just five more minutes dad, I swear I will be up.” Nova said, not ready to wake up.
“You’ve been saying that for over two hours now so get up!” Shadow stated before walking away.
Nova levitated his pillow off his face; reaching over to his bedside table, he started feeling around for his glasses while grumbling. “Ah, found them!” He stated before quickly levitating his glasses, in his magenta aura, in one swift motion. Nova threw his bedsheets off himself then he let out one more yawn before getting up. Nova opened his door, seeing his father coming to his room with an annoyed look on his face. “Told you I was getting up.” Nova sang to his father, trotting downstairs he could smell pancakes.
He yawned once more as he came into the kitchen, “Good morning, sweetie.” His mother, Evening Breeze, said in her normal cheery voice
“Good morning, Mom.” Nova said as he started making his plate. “So, any plans today?” He asked.
Evening shook her head, “Nope. Just work and come home.”
Nova rolled his eyes a bit as he took a bite of his food. Looking over, he nearly facehooved. Getting back up, he opened a cabinet, grabbed a mug, and filled it with coffee. Sitting back down, he continued to eat. He looked at a nearby clock to check the time, nearly groaning. He did not want to go to school as always. Quickly chugging his coffee, Nova got up before giving his mom a hug, “Bye Mom, love you” Nova said, levitating his saddlebags on.
***
Yawning once more, Nova trotted through the streets, seeing some of the street lamps turning off while Celestia’s sun was still rising. He couldn’t wait for the day to be over so that way he could relax a bit. Looking around a bit more, he could see ponies waking up just as the school came into view. He picked his pace up a bit.
While walking, he noticed his two friends, Golden Glory and Lime Wire, waving. He quickly trotted up to them. The three started talking immediately as they trotted through the school’s door. Nova went to his locker, opening it, “So yeah, my dad yelled at me again this morning.” Nova complained.
Golden groaned, rolling his eyes, “Dude, it’s because he is trying to wake you up.” He said “And trust me, I’ve seen it before, you are just lazy.”
“I beg to differ!” Nova stated, clearly insulted by such an accusation, even though it was true. He levitated his books and notebooks out of his locker, putting them in his saddlebags. “I am not looking forward to history today, I forgot to study...” Nova scoffed.
“Why not just look at somepony else’s paper?” Lime asked.
“Because, if my dad found out he would probably kill me.” Nova said with a deadpanned expression. “You know how he gets.” Nova said while walking to his classroom, already dreading the next eight hours.
***
Nova stood at his locker, slamming his head on it in a constant motion. Golden just rolled his eyes at his friend, “What's wrong?” he asked.
Nova slammed his head on his locker one final time, “I forgot they mailed report cards out! I just hope my mom gets ahold of it before my dad does.” Nova said “She is a bit more lenient with these types of things.”
“And your dad?” Lime asked
Nova slammed his head again, “He is so uptight that I swear he wasn’t allowed to do anything but work since he was born if he found out… Celestia knows what he’d do to me.”
“Hey, I know what will cheer you up!” Golden said poking Nova.
***
Nova laughed when they walked into ‘The Forbidden Planet.’ It was one of Manehattan’s only comic book stores. It was a shame really because it was such a long trek from the school to it, but in the end, it was all worth it. Nova looked around, seeing a new issue of Power Ponies. He levitated it and frowned a bit. They had somehow managed to bring back the Mane-iac
As much as he loved the Power Ponies comics, it always bothered him how they somehow found a way to bring back the same villain. Rolling his eyes, Nova sat down at the small booth that Golden and Lime had managed to get.
“Well, I’ll give it to you both, this did manage to cheer me up a bit.” Nova stated, feeling uplifted.
The group began talking while waiting to be called for their order. As always, Nova had gotten a small order of hayfries and a coffee. He knew he’d need it to keep awake the rest of the day. “Hey guys?” Nova started getting their attention “N-never mind” He said chuckling at his own thought he smiled when their food was brought over to them normally they would have to get up and go to grab it but every once in a while one of the workers who had gotten to know them would be working and bring the group’s order to them
With a small sigh, Nova began to eat

After a few hours in the comic store, Nova had opted to go home. As he reached it, he opened the door as silently as he could, hoping to get upstairs to his room.
“Nova, welcome home.” Evening said, greeting her son. She knew exactly what he was going to try and do, so she had waited in the living room for him. “Did you have a good day?” She asked.
Cursing under his breath, Nova turned to his mother. “Uh yeah, it was alright.” Nova said hoping to escape from his mother. As much as he loved her, sometimes she smothered him. “You know Mom, sometimes it scares me at how cheerful you are.”
“And it scares me at how much you are like your father.” Evening quipped back, causing Nova to cringe. Evening smirked, she knew Nova better than he knew himself sometimes. “You know there is a movie coming on,” Evening said, “And I think you might like it”
Nova shook his head. “No thanks, Mom. I want to do something,” Nova said, seeing his mom frown from his words.
“I just thought you might like it,” Evening said, giving Nova the puppy dog eyes, “I know how you love all of that comic book stuff and from what I read this is right up your alley.”
“If you promise to stop doing that, I’ll agree!” Nova said, avoiding eye contact
“Deal,” Evening said, giggling, “I’ll make some popcorn.” The mother left the room to the kitchen to get the snacks going, with Nova nodding in response.
Given some free time, the colt walked into his room and placed his saddle bags down. Before turning to leave his room, he suddenly stopped “Wait a second,” He mumbled, “Did I just get hassled by my mom?”

‘beep beep beep ’
Nova groaned. He knew only one thing in the entire house that could make a loud and obnoxious noise like that.
‘beep beep beep ’
Turning over, Nova used his magic to unplug his alarm clock. Sometimes he wanted to find the person who thought of making alarm clocks just so he could slap them for it. Only reason he had it was because it was either his clock or his dad waking him up. The former seemed more appealing.
Sitting up, Nova used his magic to put on his glasses. He found it a little funny that as far as he knew, in his entire family, he was the only one who needed glasses
“What the…?” Nova mumbled, seeing a letter on his bedside stand that normally only housed his glasses, a comic or two and his lamp. “Who sent this?” He asked to nopony in particular and levitated it. The letter was addressed to him, but from the looks of it his mom must have put it there. “Wait how in the name of Celestia did I wind up in here?” Nova said. The last thing he remembered was watching a movie, but not much after.
And within seconds, he opened the letter, smiling a little at who had sent it.
‘Dear Nova,
Hey buddy, it’s Uncle Blue. I thought you’d appreciate hearing from your favorite uncle. It’s been a long time, I bet you’ve had a lot going on. Puberty for one thing. If you’re like how I was, you can’t stop sneaking peeks at all the fillies… only to get a slap across the face. But I kid. I know it’s rough for a growing colt these days, and knowing my brother, he can’t be making things easier. But believe me, bud, it’s never as bad as it seems. You may deal with bullies, stress, piles of work, and not being old enough to do much, but it’ll all pass eventually.
Lately the crime rates across Equestria have been spreading more than a mare in heat. My entire unit’s been running rampant, but it’s not enough sometimes. I’ve been going everywhere from Fillydelphia to Appleloosa. I want you to keep safe out there, never know who’s waiting to shank you and rob you, or shank you just because. If I ever get some time off, I may come over and hang out. You can get a red carpet ready in the meantime.
Take care of yourself and your folks, Nova. The world needs good kids like you to fix it.
Love, Uncle Blue. ’
Nova smiled. He always loved hanging out with his uncle, even as a colt because, as his mom put it, he was the ‘fun family’ and unlike his dad, Blue was laid back and never really scolded him for anything.
‘The world needs good kids like you to fix it ’ Those words rang in Nova’s head. He’d always had a passion for comics and almost every year on Nightmare Night him and his little group of friends would go out dressed as some kind of superhero. Sighing, Nova got out of bed and walked downstairs. When he looked into the kitchen, he wanted to go upstairs and just wait, but he knew that would get him nowhere
“Good morning, Nova.” Shadow grunted, reading the newspaper. Nova always found it a bit ironic his dad was a cop but every morning he would read the newspaper and talk about some crime going on in Manehattan.
His uncle Blue Breeze was a royal guard. ‘Next thing you know I’m going to be signing up for law school ,’ Nova thought, letting out a little chuckle and grabbing a plate. Nova wasn’t really hungry, so he just grabbed a piece of toast. He always wondered what time his mom got up in order to make a, as he commonly called it, ‘buffet,’ but the only answer he would get is ‘it was magic.’
“Good morning,” Evening sang, kissing Nova’s head, “And good morning to you, Shadow.” She said, walking over to her husband. he hadn’t noticed it yet, but his mom had a towel wrapped around her mane. It was obvious she had just taken a shower. He forced his brain not to think past that observation.
***
“Do you have your house key?” Evening asked for what felt like the thousandth time. Nova was, for the first time in years, getting the house to himself for the night. He remembered the first time they had trusted him home by himself. Evening had told him she left him a plate in the microwave, but at the time he didn’t think to take the aluminum foil off of it and caused a small fire.
“Yes Mom,” Nova said, “And yes, before you ask, I checked the smoke alarms and I know to take the aluminum foil off of my food before heating it up.” He said, earning a glare from Shadow that he quickly matched. ‘And thankfully I get a night away from you ,’ he thought.
“And remember, if you need anything at all, Crystal Ball is next door.” Evening said.
Shadow kissed his wife. “Come on dear, you're being a little over protective,” he said, surprising Nova. This was the first time in a very long time that Shadow had helped him out in some way like that. As small as it was, he appreciated it.
***
Nova smiled at the box in front of him. He had dragged his secret comic stash out from his closet. It had everything from The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well to The Amazing Spider-Mane. His parents knew about his comic ‘obsession,’ but they didn’t know about his secret stash of comics and he hoped to keep it that way.
Levitating the remote, he turned the TV on and, of course, the news was on. He kept watching, mostly out of curiosity. Apparently, some convenient store had been robbed. ‘The world needs good kids like you to fix it. ’ Nova shook his head and turned the channel. He pulled out one of his Spider-Mane comics and began his comic reading binge.
Right as he opened the first page, as luck would have it, the power went out. “Oh come on!” he facehoofed, “I swear to Celestia we are the only ponies who still have a fuse box!” Nova grumbled, lighting his horn up. He started looking around for the basement door, “Would it kill Dad to actually have this place upgraded to, well, not having a fuse box?!” He mumbled, trotting down to the basement.
“Come here, fuse box,” Nova said, whistling, “Here little fuse box,” he said, talking about the fuse box as if it were a dog. he yelped, tripping over somethhing, ‘Dammit all’, He thought. When he looked, up he saw the fuse box, “I guess something good did come out of this.”
***
Nearly half an hour had passed since Nova had replaced the busted fuse. he sat back down and picked his comic back up. “There, now I can finally relax,” he said, “Now then,” he began, only to hear a loud knocking on the door. “Sometimes I think I am just cursed to never catch a break,” Nova said, walking to the door and quickly opened it
“Hello, Nova dear,” Crystal Ball said as she pushed Nova aside and walked in, ”I saw the power was off and, per your mother's wishes, I came to check and make sure you were alright and alive.”
“As you can see, everything is fine and I’m still breathing,” Nova said in attempting to get rid of the mare as soon as possible. As a colt, he had been taught to respect his elders, but Crystal Ball tended to scare him a little. It’s not that she was mean it was more that she hardly showed emotion when speaking.
Crystal Ball nodded slightly. “Yes, I can see that,” she said, “But I might stay over here until your parents get home and hopefully educate you.”
Feeling his heart sink, Nova had to think of something and he knew he needed to fast. He remembered when she would foalsit him, Crystal Ball would go into his room and search it from top to bottom, taking any and all ‘contraband ,’ but in his case, it was normally a piece of candy. “You don’t want to do that,” he said gaining a look from the mare, “I’m, uhh, sick.” He said forcing out a fake cough.

As time passed, Nova soon passed out. He was sprawled out on the couch with his glasses on half his face and he was snoring. He’d gotten rid of Crystal Ball, but just as the clock hit midnight the front door opened with Shadow and Evening walking through the front door. Evening was giggling like a school filly coming back home after a party
The light blue mare walked into the living room and saw her son passed out on the couch. She sighed a bit, “Let me just fix this.” she said, taking his glasses off and placing them on the coffee table. She slightly frowned when she saw the mess that Nova had left on the table and floor.
She ignored it. Evening knew her son and she knew that he would clean it up unless he wanted to see her angry, and nopony liked that. “Well I see he wound up tiring himself out,” Shadow chuckled a bit, looking around for his wife, “How does she do that?” He asked unable to see her for a split second.
“How do I do what?” Evening asked, tossing a blanket onto the sleeping lump that was her son.
Shadow shook his head. Every once in a while he would joke about Evening needing to wear a bell around her neck due to how quiet she could be when walking away.
***
Just as quickly as the night had come, the morning had come just as quickly. Nova rolled over as the sunlight made its way from the window onto his face. He hated mornings, but then again, what pony liked mornings? He sat up, looking around to see he was in the living room, and it was clean.
He had remembered having some things he meant to throw away before his parents got home. ‘Oh no.’ He thought in sudden realization. He felt his heart stop for a split second and his blood ran cold when he realized he had fallen asleep before they had gotten home, and knowing his mother, she must have waited until his father had fallen asleep before cleaning up Nova’s mess.
He hated it when she did that, not only because Shadow would question him about it the next morning, but because he was good at keeping things clean… Well, most of the time there were times when he was too lazy to clean his room, but who didn’t have those days when they just wanted to sit around and do nothing all day?
“Good morning, sunshine,” Evening said, ruffling his mane and causing Nova to nearly jump out of his skin, “Somepony is skittish this morning,” she giggled at his reaction and walked over to the coffee table, “Here you go.” She placed his glasses into his hooves and watched as he clumsily put them on. The total lack of anger in her voice was worse than actual rage.
***
In the middle of a warehouse, several ponies stood staring down a tied up pegasus who had sweat dripping off his mane and a bit of blood on his face. “Now I’m going to ask you one more time.” said a large light brown earth pony with dark brown eyes. He spun around and bucked the pegasus, “Who did you sell it to?”
He stepped back, allowing him some room to breath. “I told you, I didn’t sell it to anypony!” He spat, noticing a tooth coming out with a small amount of blood. He took a shaky breath “Somepony that looked li-” He was silenced by a punch in the jaw
“I don’t think you understand,” the earth pony said, “I am trying to run a clean business here.” He walked over to a table and wrapped his hoof up in a cloth and walked back over to the pegasus. “Now then, you clearly don’t want to tell me the truth.” He punched the tied up pony again, “And instead you want to give me some bullshit lie about somepony dressed up as,” he looked over at his associates, “What was it again? Spider-Mane?”
One of the ponies shook his head. “I think it was Bat-something,” he laughed, “It seems like this fool hasn’t been selling your-” He stopped talking to think for a second ,“Product to others and has been using it for himself.”
The earth pony let out a bitter laugh before punching the pegasus once more. “Take care of him for me,” he said throwing the cloth on the ground, “I’m going to spend time with my son.” he said before heading towards the door
***
Nova sat in his room, silently attempting to focus. For him it was hard being the only unicorn in his family, or the only one as far as he was aware, so he kept practicing magic. Even if he mostly used basic levitation, he still practiced nonetheless. But this time, he was doing something a little different, to put it lightly.
He had two pencils that, out of boredom, he was sword fighting with. He laughed quietly until he heard his door opening. ‘I need to start locking that thing.’ he thought while quickly grabbing the spell book that, most of the time was, left untouched and left to gather dust. He quickly flipped to a random page and began pretending to study in case his mom was walking in.
“Having a bit of alone time there?” He turned his head and smiled, seeing Blue Breeze, “I can come back any time.” he half joked. Walking over to Nova’s closet he, rummaged through it and pulled out a small bottle of whisky. “Thought you could hide this from me?” he laughed, opening it and taking a sip
Nova smiled, “Hey, uncle Blue.” He let out a small sigh of relief, “I thought you wouldn’t be coming here for weeks.” he said. He had just received the letter a few days ago, or maybe the post office had just been running late, or maybe it was just laziness on his behalf for not checking the mail.
“Nope,” Blue chuckled, ruffling Nova’s mane, “I got an early leave, so I figured I’d stop by for a visit.” Blue began to dig in his saddlebags. “Say, kiddo? You like that comic book stuff, right?” Blue asked before tossing what looked like a small paperback book on his bed, “I picked this up in Canterlot and figured you would like it.” he said.
Nova looked over at the book, seeing it read from right to left and had no color. ‘He grabbed me a manga?’ Nova thought before levitating it onto his bedside table. “Thanks.” he said, trying his best to sound grateful.
“Well, I’ll leave you be now.” He chuckled, walking out of the room, making sure to close the door on his way out. Although Nova was pretty sure he had heard Blue Breeze shouting something about him having his own personal playtime in there. He never was very subtle.
Author's Note

After a few hours of sitting in his room doing nothing, Nova decided to see what his parents and uncle were doing. When he walked downstairs he could hear his mother laughing. Out of curiosity, he walked into the kitchen to see what all of the fuss was about. “There you are.” Shadow said with a slight chuckle. “We didn’t think you’d ever come out of that cave.”
Sitting down, he grumbled something about needing time away from Shadow sometimes. “So, what’s going on?” Nova asked, getting back up to grab a soda. “If you had mom laughing like that. then something good must have happened.” He said, taking his seat.
Evening began wiping the tears from her eyes. “Oh, I was just talking about when your fear of spiders first began showing.” She said, remembering his reaction to a small spider all too well. Nova looked at the table and saw something that in his eyes looked massive, when in fact it was not even the size of a bottle cap.
“Everypony shush!” He exclaimed, noticing the spider. He felt his blood run cold and his heart began pounding as if it was going to burst out of his chest at any second. When the spider moved, Nova did something he hadn't done in years. He jumped into Shadow’s lap, screaming like a little filly. “Kill it! Kill it with fire! Burn the fucker until it dies!” He screamed.
Being the careful and graceful mare she was, Evening grabbed a glass and a piece of paper to get rid of the spider. “Nova,” Shadow grunted, “get off my lap, you're not five anymore.” He tossed his son off of him. “Speaking of that, I still remember the first night I met Evening”
***
The night was cold as it normally was, but that didn’t stop Shadow. He continued to trot along the cobble sidewalk; all he wanted to do was get home and sleep. He had a pretty long day, but thankfully it wasn’t anything he couldn’t handle on his own. That didn’t mean he didn’t want any help with some of the ponies, Celestia forbid.
Instead of being on patrol like he had been promised, he was stuck working at the station and making sure some of the ponies they had arrested-some of whom were awaiting their court dates-stayed in line. He rubbed his slightly sore head. “Well, there's always tomorrow.” He said aloud, continuing his trudge.
Most of the time he would fly home; it just felt faster, but some nights he enjoyed walking. He took in a deep breath when he heard something. “The hell.” He mumbled, listening closer to the noise. It almost sounded like a mare screaming. “The one night I want to myself.” He began running to the sound. When he got there he didn’t expect what he was saw.
“You know what!” A sky blue mare screamed at a stallion standing in a doorway. “Fuck you too! Go on and spend more time with that cheap hussy! See if I care!” She shouted, throwing a small rock at the stallion. “You stupid junkie!” She began walking away with tears in her eyes, only to bump into something.
Shadow looked at the mare with a questioning look on his face. “Are you alright, ma’am?” He asked, looking into her rose eyes. He watched as she wiped the tears with her hoof. “Is there anything I can help with?”
“I’m fine,” She looked up, noticing his police uniform, “officer.” She finished and looked back into his brown eyes.
Shadow smiled, slightly. “No need for formalities. The name is Shadow Breeze.”
She felt something inside of her, though she was unsure of just what. “Well, thank you, Shadow Breeze, but I’m fine.” She grumbled, wanting to just leave and be left alone.
“Listen, normally I wouldn’t do this, but do you want me to take you somewhere?” He asked. “A hotel? A friend? Your parents?” He questioned.
“I said I’m fine.” She said, trying to get past the pegasus in front of her.
“Can I at least get your name?”
Rolling her eyes, the mare just glared at him. “Evening Bloom.” She huffed, just wanting to forget the night she had. “Am I free to go now?”
Nodding, Shadow stepped out of her way. “Wait, before you go,” He reached into his pocket and held something in his hoof ,“take this in case you ever have any problems with whoever that was.” It was a card. “Just stop at the station and ask for me.” He kept his smile on and watched as Evening took the card before running off.
***
“Hold on a second!” Nova blurted out, interrupting the story. “You always told me that you and mom met at a club or something.” He said, feeling a hoof patting his back.
“Well Nova, you see, it was a lie.” Blue chuckled “Seriously, you thought they’d tell you how they really met?”
Shadow rolled his eyes. “If I may continue.”
***
Evening gulped. She couldn’t believe what she was doing, and she wasn’t sure what it was about Shadow that had her drawn to come to a police station of all places. She wasn’t the type of pony who liked coming to these places for plenty of reason. “Well, here goes everything.” She told herself, blowing her light orange mane out of her face before walking in.
As soon as she did, the first thing she was able to hear was drunk ponies whistling at her but she did her best to ignore them and kept walking until she reached a window. Upon reaching it, she noticed there wasn’t a pony at there. “Excuse me?” She called out, tapping on the glass, completely ignoring the sign.
“Hello?” She said tapping the glass again, and soon enough a pony with a cream colored coat, thick glasses and a red mane rolled up to it
“Yes, what can I help you with?” She asked in a thick accent. “And please avoid tapping on the glass.” She pointed to the small sign that read “No tapping.”
Evening sighed and began questioning why she was doing this. “I’m looking for an officer.” She looked at the deadpanned look the receptionist was giving her. “He gave me this card.” She slid the card through the little slot in the glass before getting a nod from the pony.
She receptionist pushed a button on a small microphone that was hooked up to an intercom. “Shadow Breeze to the receptionist’s desk. You have a pony looking for you.” She said over the intercom .“Will that be all?” She asked, turning back to the mare. Evening gave her a nod. “Then please take a seat over here.” She pointed to a small seating area that was away from the other ponies.
As she sat down, seconds started to pass and eventually the seconds turned to minutes and the minutes turned to hours. “I should have know better.” Evening groaned before standing up to leave.
But before she knew it, she felt something on her shoulder. “Hey, sorry it took me so long… Evening, wasn’t it?” She turned around, shocked to see Shadow standing in front of her and soon that feeling from before was back. “I ended up being caught up in a few things” He chuckled, looking at the clock.
“I-it’s fine,” Evening stuttered slightly, “I just wanted to thank you for last night.” She lied. “Well, I’m heading out now.” She turned back around, wanting to leave as soon as she could, but it wasn’t until something stopped her. It was her stomach.
The stallion chuckled at the noise. “Let’s say to make it up to you I take us out to lunch?” Shadow smiled “My treat.” Evening just nodded in response.
***
Blue shook his head. “Making a mare wait like that.” He gave his brother a knowing look. “Shame on you! I thought mom and dad raised you better than to keep a lady waiting.” He laughed.
Unable to stand it anymore, Nova started stretching and listened as his joints popped. “No offense, but this story is getting a little dull” He said before feeling something hitting his head “Ouch!”
“You hush. This is how you were born!” Evening said putting a small plate on the table that was somehow filled with cookies. “But I think to keep him from falling asleep on us we should skip to the good part.” Evening winked. Not that kind of good part.
“Fine, honey.” Shadow chuckled. Nova only gulped in nervousness.
***
Months had passed and eventually Shadow and Evening had started dating. They had yet to move in together, but they had made sure to see each other daily, even if it was for a short amount of time. They always made time.
“Come on, Shadow.” Evening begged. Today they had decided to spend some time in her apartment. “Please? For me.” She kept begging. “Its just one dinner with my parents!”
Shadow sighed. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to meet them, it was more of who Evening’s father was that made him reluctant to go. “I’m sorry but your dad scares me.” He admitted. “If you can promise me that he won’t kill me on sight, then I’ll go.”
“Don’t worry.” She hopped on the couch next to him and kissed his cheek. “My mom told me he will be on his best behaviour.”
He couldn’t help but smile. When they had first met, Shadow would have never taken Evening as a daddy’s filly. Then again, she never stopped surprising him. “Fine, I’ll go.”
“Good!” Evening cheered. “The dinner is tonight at seven sharp.” Shadow gulped. It was clear that she had planned this out. “Now, I’m going to go and shower.” She said, hopping off the couch to get cleaned up and leave Shadow to his own devices.
Soon enough Evening came out of the bathroom with her mane braided slightly. Looking at the clock, Shadow noted that it was nearing six thirty. “Well, are you ready?” She asked, grabbing a coat.
He nodded slightly “I’m as ready as I’ll ever be” Shadow said grabbing his own jacket and quickly putting it on and before they knew it they were walking with Evening leaning her head on Shadow
As they walked, looking at the stars, they soon arrived at Evening’s parents’. Taking one last breath, Shadow forced a smile. He really hoped that the dinner went well, but Evening seemed surprisingly giddy. She ran up and knocked on the door, and soon enough, a magenta mare with orange eyes and a black mane opened the door, smiling gleefully. “Evening!” She said, hugging her daughter.
Evening returned the hug with a large grin plastered on her face. “Mom!” She said. before noticing a large beige stallion with purple eyes and a navy blue mane. Dhe pulled out of the hug with her mother before nearly tackling the stallion. “Daddy!” She squealed, hugging him as tight as she could
“Well hey, darling.” He said, hugging her back before turning his gaze to the grey stallion standing at the door. “And you must be Shadow Breeze.” He looked him in the eyes. “Well, what are you waiting for? Come in, my boy!” He chuckled, stepping out of the way for him. “You know my daughter.” He motioned his hoof to the mare next to him “This is my wife Dawn Meadow and I am Lights Out”
The room still felt tense to Shadow. He felt like if he said one wrong thing that Light would possibly punch him and do just as his name suggested and knock his lights out, “I-its nice to meet you.” He stammered in reply.
***
The story was interrupted by the high-pitched screaming of Nova. Instead of being in his father's lap, he was sitting in his mother’s lap, screaming.
“You know Shadow, I’m starting to think he is more of a filly than a colt.” Blue chuckled, knowing how many times he had abused his nephew’s fear for a quick laugh. “It’s just a toy. This thing doesn’t even look re-” He was silenced by the rubber spider being chucked at him.
Evening glared at Blue Breeze. It was times like this she wanted to kill him. “Anyway, I think we should just skip to the good part.” She said, winking at her husband again.
***
“Do you think it could be a false positive?” Crystal asked, looking at Evening with a look of worry and happiness on her face. She had been dragged out of her home by her friend, who was in a blind panic, having found out she was pregnant.
Evening took a deep breath, looking at the test. “I don’t think so.” She received a questioning look. “I’ve done this about five times today.” She was scared. If she was pregnant, then what would Shadow do? Would he stay with her? Or leave her? Evening was fully aware it was his child, but would he be so accepting?
Still in her state of panic, Evening had not noticed that her friend had placed a hoof on her shoulder. She looked up at the smile. “You have nothing to worry about.” This seemed to help her slightly. “Trust me when I say being a parent is one of the best things.” She nuzzled the nervous mare. “Do you want me to stay while you tell Shadow?” Crystal asked, getting a small nod in return.
The pair sat down, waiting and talking to help pass the time. Most of the time Evening would ask questions about things that had a low percentage of happening, or would be impossible. As time passed, eventually they both heard the front door opening, and to Evening that meant it was time for the inevitable. She needed to take a few deep breaths.
But soon, Shadow came into the living room. “Hey sweetie, I’m home.” He smiled and looked over at Crystal. He had grown accustomed to seeing her at their home nearly every day. It had become a normal thing. Evening felt her body freezing; she couldn’t say it not now, she was too scared and that fear was growing more and more. “Evening?” Shadow waved a hoof in front of his wife, hoping to get her attention. “Is something wrong?” He gave her a concerned look.
All the while Evening had zoned out, thinking of the many different outcomes of the situation, when suddenly she felt herself being shook. “I’m pregnant!” She shouted, looking at Shadow. She wasn’t sure why she had shouted. “Shadow, I’m pregnant.” She repeated, looking at the shellshocked stallion.
There was an awkward silence that lasted nearly half an hour. They both had to process everything, and soon Evening felt herself being hugged. She looked at Shadow. He was smiling. Dhe knew what it meant… However, she did feel bad that he would have to put up with her mood swings. Oh, those were gonna be a rough series of months.
***
The whole table was quiet. Nopony, not even Blue, knew how that had went down. As far as they knew, Nova had been planned. “So, I was an accident!” Nova pointed at his mother with a slightly victorious grin... and soon that grin fell “...Shit, I was an accident.” He felt himself being nuzzled.
“No, you weren’t. I think you were one of the best things to happen to me.” Evening smiled. While they had not planned on having a foal so soon, she wouldn’t have changed it for the life of her. Well, she would have changed a few things about the pregnancy, but who wouldn’t? “Well, go back to the story.” She motioned to Shadow, still hugging Nova.
***
Time passed as one would expect, and Evening noticed a few things changing. One of them was her appetite, the other was her mood swings, and the final thing was the most noticeable. Anytime she would go out ponies would ask her when she was expecting and what the gender was. It felt great, but it also got quite tiring after a while. For now she was sitting on the couch, watching a movie.
She had never seen the movie before, but had heard good things about it. The movie was about some teenaged mare and her friends going on the run after her brother accidently shot a stallion whose son broke his cart. She giggled almost every time the detective came onto the screen. Almost everything about him reminded her about Shadow, even his demeanor.
She felt like something was hitting her stomach from inside, and looked down at it. “You seem to be hyper today, don’t you?” She asked the foal slowly growing inside her, and as expected, got no reply. Soon after, her stomach began rumbling. She looked at the TV and was thankful it was on a commercial.
Evening got up slowly but surely and went into the kitchen. “What to eat...” She looked around, opening the fridge, and saw the leftovers from dinner. She grabbed the pizza box and went back into the living room. “Now back to the movie.” She sang, opening the box. While she ate her mind began to wander. During her ultrasound the doctor had said they noticed a small abnormality on the foal’s head. She was scared. What if she had done something to cause it? But then she thought to something else they had said.
They had said that there was a slight chance that the foal could be a unicorn, and if that was the case, she was even more scared to give birth. Try not to think too hard on that one.
***
Evening kept hugging Nova despite him trying to push her away. His face turned an even deeper shade of blue than before. “Come on, you’re gonna kill the boy!” Blue Breeze said, trying to help separate her, but she was like a snake who had gained hold of her prey and refused to let go.
“Mom, please.” Nova gasped for air. “Can’t breath!”

Nova grumbled, slightly annoyed. Of course he had been asked to clean the basement. He hated cleaning it due to the cobwebs, and where there’s cobwebs spiders can’t be far behind, but he tried shoving that thought out of his mind as he kept lifting box after box, noting what labels they had on them.
“Hey kiddo.” Rang a voice. Nova nearly jumped out of his skin when his uncle snuck up behind him. “I thought I’d give you a helping hoof.” Blue chuckled
“Thanks, Uncle Blue.” Nova smiled, levitating another box to sort through and find out its contents and decide if it was stuff that could be donated. He looked at the writing. “Huh.” He mumbled looking. noticing what it read on it. He had never seen it before. He of course opened it, and the first thing he saw was a wet suit. “Who did this belong to?” He asked to nopony in particular
Blue trotted over and took a small peak. “Oh hey, that was Dad's old scuba diving gear.” He chuckled as the memories began to flood back. “He would take me and your father on these little trips to the lake and force us to wear those things. Really gave some serious rashes from how itchy they were.”
Nova kept looking at the suit as if it could hold some other purpose. When he looked in the box again he saw a baton. “...The hell was grandpa into?”
***
After finishing with the basement, Nova had snuck the suit and the baton up to his room... Well, after washing the baton. ‘This could be my chance,’ He thought, ‘to become a superhero.’ He chuckled. It was a crazy idea. “What am I thinking? I’d get my plot kicked, or even killed.” He shuddered at the thought of being killed, but what if he could make a difference in Manehattan, and maybe all of the world, by doing it? It was a long shot, but then he remembered those words his uncle wrote him.
‘This world needs good kids like you to fix it…”
‘Well, if I did it, I would need a mask and a name.’ He thought again. ‘Maybe I could steal-I mean, borrow Mom’s sewing supplies.’ He smirked and trotted out of his room. By Celestia, he was going to do it… Of course, he would just help by walking pets or finding lost pets. As he walked into his parents room, he went into Evening’s bedside table and grabbed her sewing supplies. He was sure he could find the fabrics in the house that would match the scuba suit.
So, that’s what he did. He began his search for the fabric. He wasn’t sure why he was doing this, let alone what he hoped to accomplish by possibly getting the crap beaten out of him. Maybe he wanted to try it to feel like he had some sort of power? Or maybe he really did want to help others. Or maybe hormones. Could be any of them.
***
After hours of trial and error, and poking himself, Nova had made a mask. It seemed to match the scuba suit well, but Nova felt like he was missing something… but what? Even he was unsure on what it was, but all he knew is he was going to do something. He quickly rolled the clothing up and took it to his closet to keep them hidden for now, when he saw something that caught his eye. It was a pair of rain boots.
Nova had no clue why he had them, but when he compared the rain boots to the suit he found them to be a perfect match. He knew it was complete, and he knew what his first mission was. It was to take a long nap in the hopes that nopony needed him so to be safe. Can’t going saving people while tired. He shut and locked his door.
The bed’s old mattress squeaked as the young stallion jumped on it. He knew he should have gotten a new mattress years ago, but he liked the one he had. It had a certain personality to it… Plus, that’d mean he would have to help move it, and Nova was too lazy for that even with the help of magic, it would still be exhausting. Yeah, this colt was destined to be a great hero.
***
Evening smiled. The sky blue mare had been treated to lunch by her brother in law, Blue Breeze. Sure, she occasionally wanted to kill him for some of the things he did be it to her, Shadow, or Nova, but for some reason he had wanted to treat her to lunch and take her out for an afternoon on the town. Afterall, he was still family.
All of it on his bit. “So, why are you really here?” Evening asked, knowing he wouldn’t have come down before his leave. “You have to be up to something.” She smirked.
“Just wanting to visit you all.” Blue lied. Sure, he wanted to do that too, but he had to investigate some drug lord that had been reported to be in Manehattan. Unfortunately, so far he found nothing. “Besides, I really wanted to scare the crap out of Nova.” He laughed. “Sure is funny to see that boy jump from an itty bitty spider.” He felt himself receive a jab in the gut from Evening. At least that part was true. He did enjoy seeing his nephew jump and grab onto the first object or pony for dear life. He didn’t do it maliciously, though. Just a bit of fun.
“Well, be that as it may...” She hugged the tall blue stallion, “It’s always good to see you and you are always welcome in our home.” She let him out of the hug and they began walking again. Evening was happy because she got some shopping she needed to get done finished. Plus, she had found a book for Nova on different spells he could practice.
She attempted to put as little pressure on him as she could, but she also wanted to make sure he used his full potential and could find out what spells he was capable of. When she would be questioned as to why, she would use the same old ‘Because I’m your mother and I want what’s best for you’ excuse that she’d picked up over the years.
“Evening!” Blue shouted as she walked into a light pole “Look out!” There was a loud banging followed by a ringing as the mare ran face first into the pole while caught up in her thoughts.
Blue rushed over to her while Evening rubbed her muzzle, cursing under her breath. “You ok? That looked like it hurt a bit.” Blue enjoyed a good joke, but if his family or friends wound up hurt, he would always be sure to make sure that they were alright before anything else.
“I’m fine.” She stopped rubbing her muzzle. “Lets just get back home.” Blue noded in agreement, hoping that’d she be alright.

Sleep, eat, school, shower… Maybe jerk off. That seemed to be Nova’s routine. It was all he felt he knew, but now he could do something else instead. Something important. Now he could become a masked crusader. He hadn’t come up with a name for himself yet, but in time it would come. For now, he was getting ready to take some sweet revenge.
Nova had told himself he’d be using his new found identity to do good, and he planned to, but his first target was something personal.
He walked up to an empty parking lot where two ponies would always take him and his friends’ lunch money. He went into an alley and quickly ripped off the trench coat he had put on and put on the mask. Thankfully the slots where the air tank would go on the scuba suit could hold the baton.
“Hey asshats!” He shouted, walking up and seeing one of them laughing while clearly smoking some sort of drug. The other had just gotten done with robbing a band kid, who was quickly fleeing. “How about you two walk away and stop trying to steal hard working ponies stuff.”
“Why don’t you walk away now, Spider-Horsey,” The bright orange one laughed, pulling out a pocket knife, “or suffer the consequences.” Nova wouldn’t budge. He held his stance… If a bit shakey. “Fine then, let’s just see how brave you are!”
The orange pony ran up, only to be hit in his stallion-hood with a baton. The thug groaned in pain and winced, the feeling between his legs stinging like hell, but not enough to distract him. “Now you’ve fucked up!” He punched Nova in the jaw before driving the knife into his stomach, leaving the young colt staggered as he bled out.
“The hell have you done?!” His partner shouted, having stayed back to watch. They both looked at the shocked pony in the suit as he was stumbling backwards. “Come’on run! The fuzz’ll be here if we don’t hurry!”
***
Lights flashed as Nova was rushed through the hospital. He couldn’t remember anything after being stabbed. He just remembered a sharp pain rushing through his entire body, and the next thing he knew he was in the hospital.
“Please don’t tell my parents about the suit.” He told the doctor tending to him. He had an IV hooked up to him, keeping him alive.
He knew they had given him some powerful painkillers to help numb him up. It was most likely a high dosage of dimmerall. “I’m begging you.” He was rushed. It was like the doctors were ignoring him.
“We have to take this kid in for surgery asap.” A large green earth pony said. Soon after, Nova felt himself blacking out again from the blood loss mixed with shock.
***
“My poor baby.” Evening spoke softly, rubbing Nova’s mane. He was still passed out from the anesthetic, and thankfully one of the doctors had been listening to him and put the scuba suit in his personal belongings. “Shadow, you better find the asswipes who did this!” She glanced at her husband, because if she found them, she would kill them. She turned back to Nova. “Poor thing had to get metal plates put in him.”
Nova’s nerves had been messed up by something that even the doctors couldn’t explain, but it wasn’t anything serious. They had said at most he wouldn’t feel any pain anymore, or at least not as much, so they had no need to worry. They would just need to make sure he took his antibiotics.
“Don’t worry, honey. I’ll find them and make sure they get charged with attempted murder.” Shadow growled. That was pretty much what the ponies had stabbed him were trying to do. Along with all the cases of robbery and assault. Shadow had every intention of making them prison bitches.
Shadow knew that Nova was wearing his dad’s old scuba suit, but he figured he’d just went to a pool or something. Now somepony had went too far by messing with his child. Thankfully Blue had agreed to take the knife to a forensics lab to be hoof printed to see who did it. This was beyond personal for all of them.
***
“Mom, come on.” Nova whined like a little colt whose mother was showing him affection in front of his friends. “I said I’m fine.” He popped his neck and smiled. It had taken a few days, but the doctors had finally allowed him to be let go. “I’m just glad my school doesn’t have metal detectors.” He chuckled looking, at the x-rays that showed his new metal plating. “Otherwise they’d blow up.”
The small family of three laughed and started on their way.
***
Meanwhile, in an unknown location, two ponies-one being a large gray earth pony and the other being a smaller white filly-sat drinking a cup of hot coco, laughing together.
“Now then, babydoll,” The larger earth pony smiled at the pegasus filly, “why don’t you tell me what you want for your birthday?”
The filly smiled, looking up at her father. “I want a puppy.” She grinned. In all honesty she was just messing with him. “A golden retreiver to be exact and I want to name him Baby.” She got a bewildered look from her father and started giggling. “Oh Daddy, that was too easy. I was just fucking with you.” She let out another giggle “I want a butterfly knife.”
The older stallion let out a sigh of relief. “Tell you what,” He ruffled her mane, “I’ll get you two butterfly knives if you’re really good. You’re not a dumbass like those young punks out there, so I know you won’t cut yourself by trying to be flashy.” He felt something hitting his gut and looked down. He saw the filly hugging him and hugged her back in return. “Now then, you go and finish up that homework I gave you.” He received a groan from her in response. “Remember the first rule of being a hero is…?”
“To always know what a weapon can do to you or somepony else.” She got an affirmative nod “But come on daddy! That’s just foals’ stuff. Can’t you make me study something a bit more difficult?”
The stallion shook his head. “Nope not until you know the basics word for word.” He made sure to be firm on that. He couldn’t live with himself if he’d let something happen to her. “Now go on.” He gave her mane another quick ruffle while she walked out of the room. “Now then,” He sat down at the desk with a paint brush in hoof, “time I finish this painting of our arch nemesis.” He turned to a canvas that was half painted, depicting a stallion he was all too familiar with.
***
Nova relaxed on the couch. He was happy that his dad wasn’t giving him any grief about lazing around the house for once. “Now we play the channel surfing game.” He chuckled, using his magic to levitate the remote and switch from channel to channel.
‘Maybe I should cut a mouth hole in the mask,’ he thought. He noticed while wearing it that it was hard as hell to talk and breath. Besides, now he could give a cocky grin to his enemies.
‘This world needs good kids like you to fix it…”
Those words from his uncle continued to ring in his head, no matter what he tried to do to tune it out. Even after nearly getting killed, he knew he had to try one more time. He wasn’t going to quit just yet.

Walking. That’s all Nova had done for two hours; looking for that damned cat, but sadly for him, Nova had little to no luck finding it. “Guess a drink couldn’t hurt.” He told himself. He sighed in disappointment. He knew there was a mini mart a couple of miles up the road, so he figured why not. Not like anything was gonna happen anytime soon.
***
Four ponies ran, three of them chasing the other. One tan. the other a wine red. and the final one was yellow. They all seemed to be chasing a pony with a seafoam green coat. He was trying to run for his life from the three of them.
***
Nova smiled. It had taken him nearly half an hour to get to the mini mart, but it was all worth it as this specific one seemed to be one of the only ones in town that sold vanilla cola. Just the thing to perk up his night.
“Meow.” His ears swiveled and he looked up as he saw Lynx sitting on a billboard… Of course it’d be a billboard. Even when he caught a break, it wasn’t easy.
He began climbing the ladder in hopes of getting to the top before Lynx decided to move. He was grinning like a mad stallion when he did. “Come here, Lynx.” He whistled in hopes of getting the cat’s attention. “Come on and be a good kitty for me.” He whistled again, but in return he was hissed at. “Come on, lets get you back home.” The cat scratched his face, causing him to fall back. “Ah! Fuck you Lynx!” Nova shouted as he fell from the billboard, landing on his back. Destroyed nerves or not, that stung.
And it was as if fate had been planning it all along. A seafoam green pony tripped over him and face planted on the ground. “Kid, what the hell have you done?!” Just as the words left his mouth three ponies came and began beating on him.
“Thanks, kid.” One of them said as he went back to beating the pony.
He felt something inside of him. How could Nova just sit there and watch as three ponies continued to bash on another one. “Hey assholes!” His horn began glowing a bright magenta as he levitated up two batons. “Why don’t you pick on someone who can fight?” He glared and swung one of the batons, making sure to hit the tan pony right between the eyes, making him stagger.
The other two looked at him. “You want a fight? You got one!” The wine red pony started swinging at Nova, who took a few hard hits, but refused to back down he returned the blows.
Unbeknownst to all of them a bright orange pony with a video camera and a camera cutie mark was witnessing everything, so rather than call the authorities, he ran into the mini mart.
***
“Hey everypony!” The orange stallion burst into the door, getting the crowd’s attention. “You gotta look outside! There is a pony outside taking on three huge stallions!” Everypony in the room just shrugged it off. “He’s dressed like a superhero! And its awesome!” At that, everypony ran to the windows while the orange pony began to record it. This would get him some free views.
***
Nova continued to exchange blows with the three stallions. Sure, he was taking more than he was giving, but that wasn’t stopping him. He refused to give up. He slammed the batons onto the ponies heads, making sure to protect the seafoam green stallion laying on the ground.
The trio backed up, one brandishing a knife he had been hiding. “Come on, kid, you don’t know what you're getting into.”
“So what?!” He waved at them threateningly. “Its better than me sitting back and watching three assholes beating up on some poor pony.” He waved the batons again. “If you want to get to him, then you’ll have to go through me!”
The tan stallion laughed making sure to spit a bit of blood on the ground. “You’ve got balls kid.” He said before the gang ran off, not wanting to get caught tonight.
Just as they did the orange stallion came outside, making sure the camera was still rolling. He was originally filming a documentary, but this… This could get him famous. “Hey,” He made sure to get Nova’s attention, “Dude, what’s your name?”
“I’m…” Nova had to think what name could he choose for himself. It could be anything, but whatever he said now would be stuck with him forever. “I’m Kickplot!” He made sure to look dead into the camera. “Now you go get the police and stop filming, jackass.”
***
“And today,” A mare on the news read from a teleprompter, “we are going to talk about a possible modern hero who stood up to three ponies trying to assault some poor stallion.” She took a sip of water. “The pony calls himself Kickplot, and thankfully we were able to get ahold of the footage.” She smiled as the clip rolled.
***
Nova sat on the couch. His mind was blown. Here he was, on the news and nopony knew it was him. “What the hell?” Said his father. He dropped his spoon that missed the bowl of cereal he was eating and hit the floor.
“I swear,” Shadow sighed, “someponies are looking to get themselves killed.” He sat down and took a sip of his coffee. If there was one thing that he and Nova had in common. it was watching the news and drinking coffee. not to mention they both liked their coffee black/ “Or maybe they have some kind of mental damage.” Shadow looked for the remote. “I can’t watch this crap anymore.”
“Oi!” Nova levitated the remote. It may have seemed self absorbed, but he made it on the news! And he was being called a hero. Those are two things that Nova never thought he’d be able to say, unless he broke into a burning building and saved a family or something of the sorts, but up until now, he’d been too cowardly to attempt something like that.
The two didn’t hear it, but Evening creeped down the stairs behind them. “And how are my two favorite boys this morning?” She asked, watching them both jump. She couldn't help but giggle, and of course give Nova a little kiss on the head. She soon joined them for the morning news. “I swear, someponies are looking to get themselves killed.” Nova facehoofed.. He never thought his mom would say something that his dad would say.
But now that he made a name for himself, he’d have to keep to it. Now that was the hard part.

A large grey stallion sat at a desk, painting. He would take down this ‘villain’ no matter what, but today was special, and he couldn’t focus on such things now. Today was his daughters birthday.
“Morning Daddy!” sang a voice. He turned around and smiled to see her. The little filly was balancing a bag of egg and cheese biscuits and two cups of hot chocolate on her wings.
“Well, gosh darn it. I was going to get you breakfast this morning.” He gave the filly a kiss “Well, Haily, guess what I got you?” asked the older stallion as he grabbed a small box that to somepony looked like it could hold a necklace. Haily was quick about grabbing it and opening it. She grinned like a mad mare when she saw that her father had bought her two butterfly knives. the filly grabbed one with her wing and began playing around with it, skillfully avoiding cutting herself.. She couldn’t wait to use it in action.
“These are so cool!” She continued to play with the knife. “Daddy look!” She kept doing tricks with it in hopes of getting her father's attention
***
As the day passed, Nova would turn to different news stations and almost all of them seemed to show the tape of him. He wasn’t sure how he’d done it, but somehow he had created a name for himself.
There was a knock on the door, making him quickly get up. “Who in the world could that be?” He wondered aloud, opening the door.
Much to his surprise, it was Spring. she had a bag filled with… Even he wasn’t too sure what it was.
“Nova!” She quickly hugged him. “May I come in?” He nodded dumbly, allowing her in. It was times like this he was happy his parents trusted him home by himself, even after the infamous carpet fire. “So last night I got to thinking,” she sat down on the couch and reached into the bag, “”What is something we could do together?” And it hit me!” Spring pulled out what by that point had to be a miniature spa.
“Oh, that uhh...” He blinked, mentally slapping himself. “It sounds like fun.” He figured he would wait just a bit longer to tell her that he was straight. He wasn’t sure what other harm it could possibly do.
Spring gave him a smile in return. “And if your parents are alright with it, I figured we could spend the night over at my place.” It was times like that when Nova hated his luck. It seemed to purely want to screw him over and keep him from screwing over. “We could do each others manes and maybe one of those spray tan things I’ve been reading about.” Why do ponies even need to tan?
“Well, I don’t think they’ll have a problem with me spending the night.” He gave a fake smile. Sure, it was his dream come true to sleep in the same room as Spring, but as her coltfriend he knew he’d eventually have to get himself out of this mess. For now he could just enjoy the fact that she was at least paying attention to him.
***
“Huh.” Hail sat in front of the TV with her father, watching the news “This guy isn’t half bad. Sloppy, but at least he didn’t die or pussy out.”
The anchor pony smiled after stating the vigilantly now known to all of Manehattan and possibly the world as Kickplot. The larger stallion had to laugh. “He should call himself Plotkicked.” He laughed at his own joke. “Or even Plothead.”
“Do you think we should try and contact him?” The filly looked at a match that sat on the table. It was what allowed her and Ignis Fabrica to communicate if he was out on a mission that was what he considered too dangerous for her. They had spares and fully intended on giving one to a pony who they found worthy.
“He might just be the pony we are looking for...”
***
The day passed rather quickly for Nova and Spring. When his parents had arrived, they had been slightly confused as to why he had company over and let alone a mare, so when he had asked if they would approve of him staying over at her house that night they had been reluctant at first. Eventually, they figured it wouldn’t hurt and agreed.
They, of course, gave him the safe sex spiel, but Nova knew he didn’t need to worry about that seeing as Spring and him wouldn’t be doing anything.
“Are you ready?” Spring asked as she put the gloves on her front hooves. They had decided to try out the spray tan and they had even put some highlights in Nova’s mane. He tried telling himself it’d be worth it soon enough. Hopefully.
“Y-yeah.” He stuttered, walking up to her. Why he was so nervous was beyond him, but he was none the less scared about being that close to her. There’s those hormones again.
“So I was thinking...” She felt Nova beginning to rub the lotion like substance on her coat, “Maybe we could pop some popcorn and watch a movie.” She shivered a bit as the feeling. “Sound like a plan to you?” She looked in the mirror and saw Nova nodding. Yeah, it was starting to feel worth it.

A large brown earth pony sat in a rather lavosh chair with his wife and son. They were having dinner together. He smiled. His wife knew his ‘business,’ however his son was still blind to what he really did for a living. To his family he was known as Sceleri Ictus, but to the stallions that worked for him he was known as...
“Boss? Can I speak to you in the office?” A large and rather plump earth pony stallion said from the doorway.
Sceleri nodded and followed his colleague to his office. “What in the name of Celestia could you possibly need?” He asked in a slightly angry tone “Couldn’t you see I was having dinner with my family?!” He shouted slightly, not wanting them to hear.
“Boss, I think you’ll want to see this.” He pulled a tape out of his saddle bags and walked over to a TV. “Remember that pony we were trying to… question?” He said just in case Sceleri’s son was eavesdropping. Sceleri nodded. “Well, somepony… You’ll just want to watch the tape.” He put the tape in the VHS player and hit the play button.
Sceleri watched in shock as his stallions were bested by some-to him-moron in a wet suit “Who the fuck is that?” He looked at the pony. While his tone seemed calm, anypony could tell there was malice dripping off every word.
“The kid refers to himself as Kickplot.” Even he couldn’t help but chuckle at the ridiculous name. Sceleri simply glared in malice, angered knowing some punk was getting in his way.

Things had, for the most part, returned to normal for Nova. Sure. he had been all over the news. but for now he was enjoying a coffee with Spring. Until Kickplot made a return, he could rest easy.
“So I’ve been thinking of trying to find Kickplot” Spring said bluntly. His ears perked up when he heard that. “I just need his help with something is all”
“Well, you know you can tell me.” Nova smiled. He would find out what she needed help with and go take care of the problem. “I’m no superhero, but I might be able to help.”
“Well, one of the charities I work with does a needle exchange.” She sighed, knowing how drugs such as cumblious had become a problem in the world. “One of the ponies that is there quite frequently, he’s become a bit of a problem for me.” She shuddered slightly. “I just want to know if I can get Kickplot to help me somehow. I’m worried turning to the authorities may make it worse for me.”
Nova nodded. He knew what he had to do and that was get information. He wasn’t gonna just jump into this blindly.
***
As the day passed, Nova had been planning how he would take out, Medicamentis, the stallion Spring had told him about. Thankfully he had given Spring a fake address to drop a letter to. It was in an abandoned house, but as far as she knew it was Kickplot’s base. Knowing where to go, Nova walked in his wet suit with his batons, and now a cheap pocket taser he… borrowed from his mother. Last time made him realize his swing was a bit too weak on its own.
He hoped to be able to talk to Medicamentis and get him to leave Spring alone for good, but sadly he didn’t think that would work, so for his own personal protection he had brought his weapons, if somepony could even call those weapons. He walked into a rather large, almost run down looking brick building and went up to the fifth floor. According to the letter, he was in apartment 4-E.
When he walked up, he saw a rather large and bulky pegasus brandishing a large hunting knife on his side. Nova gulped and walked up to him. “Hey, I-I need to speak with Medicamentis.” He knew why he was nervous, but he couldn’t stop asking himself why he was.
The larger stallion chuckled. “Go home. kid” He flashed the knife. “It’s not Nightmare Night.” He stated in a threatening manner.
“I’m here on behalf of Spring Meadows.” As soon as the sentence left his mouth, the bulky stallion went inside the apartment and came out, motioning for Nova to go in. “Thank you.” He said as he walked in. He could smell cigars and different drugs, but he knew what he had to do. “Now which one of you is Medicamentis?” He asked the group of unpleasant looking ponies in front of him.
A rather tall pink mare with a white mane stood up. “That would be me.” She giggled. “Can’t you tell from my curves and my nice flank?” She burst out laughing at the confusion on the colt’s face.
“Well listen, I have a message from Spring.” A, to Nova, massive beige earth pony stood up.
“And, uhh, just what could that message be?” He lit a cigar. The smoke was as grey as his mane, and smelled just as ashey.
Nova took a deep breath. He had to in order to keep himself calm and not make his suit a literal wet suit. “You are going to leave her alone. Understand?” Everypony in the room began laughing at him. “Or so help me I’ll rip off your fucking testicles and replace your eyes with them.”
“You seem to have a death wish kid.” Medicamentis said, grabbing a pistol. “So now I’ll grant that wish.” Before he could pull the trigger Nova shot the taser and watched the barbs land between his eyes as he was being shocked.
“Alright. now its time to die.” One of the unicorns said, breaking a beer bottle to make Nova regret his stupid decision.
As if by sheer luck, a filly wearing almost all black leather and a purple and black plaid skirt with a mask came in through the window.
“Who the hell is this?” Asked one of the stallions in confusion.
Her mane and tail were purple as well, but when she lifted her head they both noticed she was wearing a mask. “Is this super day or some shi-” He didn’t even finish his sentence as a butterfly knife made its way into his throat, turning his sentence into a gaspy gurgle.
Nova fell down in shock at what was happening and backpedaled into the corner. The filly seemed to have a doubled edged spear on her back that she expertly grabbed with her wings and began slicing at some of the ponies in the room. Nova wasn’t able to fathom what was going on how was a filly better than he was/ And stronger from what it seemed or maybe she wasn’t a filly and was just really short. He wasn’t sure where it was more embarrassing to get one upped by a kid or a midget. Whichever it was, Nova was amazed.
“Duck!” She shouted. When she did that. he was positive it was a filly, but did as she said. The filly slammed the spear-that Nova noted had now been pulled in two halves-into the door. He also noted the belt she wore that had the letters “H-F” on them. He wondered what it could stand for. When he looked back. he noticed she was offering a hoof to help him up.
“I’ll kill you both!” The white mare from earlier grabbed a shattered bottle, but only made it one step before she fell to the ground, blood pouring from a new hole in her head that came from the window.
“Sorry, Daddy.” The filly pressed something on her ear, apologizing to some mystery stallion. “I know, back on the wall.” She quickly grabbed the spear and put it back together. “Come with me.” She told Nova, jumping out the window and spreading her wings, allowing her to glide to the next building with ease.
Nova, however, knew he’d have to jump. When he looked back, he saw a large stallion dressed up almost like he was Bat-Mane waving at him. Instead of taking the roof route, Nova ran. It was the best thing he could think to do.
***
As soon as he got back home, Nova made sure to hide the suit in his closet as well as his batons. “That was crazy” He mumbled, still shaky from the whole experience. “Who the fuck where those two?!”
“Hit-Filly and Big Daddy.” Said a gruff voice. Nova spun around and saw the two of them and began wondering if they had followed him home. Or how they got in his room. “And no, we didn’t follow you home, if that’s what you are wondering.” He felt his heart stop for a second “No, I can’t read minds.”
“H-how the hell did you find me?” He watched as the stallion, who he noted was still dressed as Bat-Mane, pulled out some kind of device that he had heard of. It was supposed to track a unicorn’s magic to where they lived. He gulped, feeling scared. “Listen, what happened there, I’m done I’m just going to retire the suit.”
“But you looked so funny, all huddled up and scared” The filly commented.
“And you have potential.” Big Daddy said. “We saw what you did on the news, Nova.” He showed the device again. “And we want you to partner up with us”
“L-like I said,” He stuttered, “I’m done.”
“Well, in case you change your mind.” Big Daddy placed a match on Nova’s bedside table. “That match will allow you to send us letters. You just write something down and burn it. The match is reusable, so don’t worry about that.” He smirked. “Just write “Going on vacation” and we’ll know how to find you,” Nova dumbly nodded and soon the two left out his window just as they came in,

Panic. That’s all Nova could think to do as he watched the news with his parents. The scene of the murder that he witnessed, and in a way helped with, was on the news. He’d forgotten about the taser! Thankfully the police had found nothing linking back to him.
Shadow looked at his son noticing something was wrong, and that he looked guilty of something “What did you do?” He asked. Nova felt his heart stop. How could he tell his dad he was there when all of that took place? “I already saw your history test” Shadow rubbed his temples
“Y-you did?” Asked Nova. Shadow nodded. “I swear I tried my best on it.” He was just thankful his dad couldn’t really figure out what was going on with him. Even though he was his son, Shadow would take him to the station for being an asset to the crime and Nova knew it.
He didn’t wanna think about what his uncle might do if he found out. Imprisonment? Banishment? ...Execution? He couldn’t stress himself about that right now. He’d just need to play it out from here and not do anything stupid. Easier said than done.

“Do you think he’ll contact us?” Hail asked her father as she watched the aftermath of the previous night. “I mean, after all, we did sort of scare him shitless.” She giggled at that.
Ignis let out a grunt, turning a page in a catalogue of sorts. “I have no doubt in my mind he will contact us.” He chuckled. He knew that Nova would be more curious about what was really going on. “After all, he didn’t get killed last night.”
Hail stood up and walked over to her father, “Well, no shit, Daddy. He was hiding in a corner while I did all the work.” She looked at the catalogue. “Woah.” She blinked looking at what her father was looking at “Is that…?”
“Yes, yes it is.” He confirmed they both saw the same thing.
“We have to buy it.” Ignis nodded in agreement.

Sceleri walked into his office. He knew he would have to do something about that punk Kickplot, and soon. But to his surprise. his son Adiuvantes Ungula. a cream colored unicorn with a light brown mane and tail and bright blue eyes. sat levitating one of his guns.
“Adiuvantes! Just what in the hell do you think you are doing?” He barked, making his son drop the gun. “What have I told you about playing in my office?!” His son was, seventeen going on eighteen in eight months. So yeah, not a very bright kid.
Adiuvantes laughed, sheepishly. “Sorry, Dad. I was just a little bored is all.” He was telling the truth. Sure, he was still blind to what his father’s business was, but he occasionally liked to come into his office and pretend to be a mob boss. He just found it entertaining to do. He wasn’t really allowed to leave the house without a guard, and he wasn’t sure why.
Sceleri walked up to his son and put him in a headlock. “Bored, are you?” He chuckled, giving his son a noogie. While he might have lead a life of crime, it didn’t mean he wasn’t a father, and he would do whatever it took to protect his family. “Wel,l how about I give you some bits and let you go out on the town and have some fun?”
“Without a guard?” He asked, hopefully. Unfortunately, his father shook his head. “Well, can I at least have Card Holder?” The only reason Adiuvantes asked is because Card Holder gave him a little more freedom than the rest of the guards. He had been in service since Adiuvantes was just a kid.
Normally Sceleri would tell him no, but today he was feeling generous. “I think that can be arranged.”

“You have to tell her you’re not gay.” Golden said with a deadpanned look on his face. “The sooner you tell her, the less repercussions it will have.” He kept looking at Nova, who had shoved a cookie in his mouth to stop his inane rambling. “And you have to stop doing that.”
Lime nodded. “Yeah, it can’t be healthy.” He was no doctor, but even he knew Nova shoving a random bit of food in his mouth to stop rambling couldn’t be good for his health. “Besides, I agree with Goldy.” He chuckled at the angered look he received .
Swallowing, Nova took a sip of his drink. “But you don’t understand! It’s Spring Meadows! I’ve had a crush on her for years.” His friends both facehooved. “...And she won’t date if me she thinks I’m gay.” He joined them in facehooving. “I don’t know, guys.”
Golden groaned. They’d been debating for half an hour on what Nova should do. “So have you two heard of Kickplot?” He asked, getting them off topic. He received nods from his friends. Nova just decided to play along. After all, if anypony found out his real identity, they would most likely go after his friends.
“That pony is seriously fucking crazy.” Lime stated.
“Why do you think that?” Nova asked. He was curious, but the answer was obvious. What he was doing was crazy. He knew he could get killed, but for some reason those two ponies, Hit-Filly and Big Daddy, seemed to stick in his mind. He knew he couldn’t stop just yet.

Three ponies stood in what looked like a lumber sales store, each of them looking at a pony who they had placed in a lumber microwave. They hadn’t tied him up, seeing as he couldn’t open the stainless steel door.
“Now then.” The largest of the group turned on the lumber microwave. It had been set for a single minute. “We’re going to ask you who sold our dash.” He smirked as the pony began panicking.
“I told you!” He began bucking the door, hoping to get out. “It was stolen by somepony dressed like some kind of superhero!” He felt a pressure building up in his head. Imagine the worst migraine ever, and multiply it by twenty.
“No more bullshit!” The largest one punched the glass. “Now, who the hell did you sell it too?!” They all grouped up and watched as the pony looked like he was struggling to breath. “Tell us and you’ll be free to go.” That much was true. He would be. but with the addition of broken legs.
A few more seconds passed and soon something nopony expected happened. The pony in the lumber microwaves head seemed to explode. “Woah.” The larger one watched in shock and awe. “Glad I’m not the one who has to clean that up.”
***
Nova sat in his room, lying on his bed. He knew Hit-Filly and Big Daddy were the real deal. Compared to him they seemed to know the drill and had high tech equipment compared to his mom’s taser. “Look at me.” He mumbled. “Those two… I’m just some dipshit in a wet suit. Why do they want my help?”
He remembered they said he had potential, and he remembered his uncle’s letter, but he couldn’t fight like they could. Maybe he could learn if he trained with them, but with the murder and superheros breaking into his house, he felt like his life had turned into some kind of horrible nightmare and he had no way of waking up. He wanted a hero’s life, and he sure got one.

Sceleri frowned. “What the hell is this?” He asked, watching the video as his ponies were slaughtered. He had no idea how in the world one pony could take on all his ponies at the same time and come out without a scratch on him.
“I think it might be that pony from the news.” A silver pony with a golden mane and goatee said. Sceleri knew him as Argentum Gate.
“You mean Kickplot?” Sceleri asked, slightly annoyed. “What the fuck does he want with my men?”
“Well, did you ever think he’s trying to get to you?” Argentum asked.
Sceleri began breathing heavily and angrily. “I want Kickplot’s head on a fucking stick!” He was enraged, but thankfully he had a few friends down at the police station who might be able to help him.

A dark purple unicorn with an amber mane and brown eyes walked into a building. He was in his police uniform. He was known to all the others as Iustitia Ungula. He didn’t have his gun or anything ready as he walked through the yellow walls of the building. He opened a door leading to a room filled with paintings that had string attached to them, and guns all over the walls.
As he walked to the desk, he noticed a comic book. He levitated it in his cobalt aura and began reading the story of how his old partner went to prison and how his wife had died when giving birth to their daughter.
He heard the sound of a gun being cocked. “What the hell are you doing here Iustitia?” He made sure to be ready to pull the trigger at any second.
“Keep in mind one of us is still a cop.” Iustitia showed the comic to his old friend. “What is this shit?” He asked. “Is this how you’re brainwashing Hail?”
Ignis took the clip out of the gun and emptied the chamber. “No, I didn’t brainwash her. I made it into a game for her.”
“By what? Murdering other ponies?!” Iustitia was shaking slightly. “How is Hail? Can I see her? I miss you both, Ignis. You were like family to me, man.”
“No, she’s fine.” Ignis glared. “I think it’s best you leave. And don’t you go telling anyone what you’ve seen, if you know what’s good for you.”
“Listen to me,” Iustitia gave his old friend a somber look, “Sceleri is looking for Kickplot. Apparently he murdered a bunch of his ponies.” He took a couple of breaths. “You know anything about that?”
“Never heard of him.” Ignis lied. “Now leave.” He looked at the assurance that he’d kept to make sure Nova would keep quiet about them. He needed to put it in a better location.

Kickplot

Sceleri sat at his desk as he made a few lines of dash. Argentum Gate frowned. “Come on. You’re back on that stuff?” He asked, not wanting to raise his tone with his friend. “I thought you quit!”
“Yeah, I’m back on it” Sceleri said, lifting his head up. “Most kids now of days want a Spider-Mane party or some kind of superhero party.” He slammed a hoof on his desk. “But no. What kind of pony wants a fucking Kickplot party?!” He screamed.
Argentum shook his head. “Well, don’t worry, he’ll be taken care of soon.” He sat down. “Now, where the hell is Peregrinatione?”
***
Ignis and Hail stood watching a pony who they had cuffed in an old unicorn magic powered vehicle, “Listen buddy,” The pegasi panicked, “I told you and your little friend exactly what you want to know.” He was terrified beyond belief. “Now, how about you hold to your end of the deal and let me go? ...Please.”
“Hmm, I’m not sure.” Hail said, standing next to her father at a control panel. “You’ve seen who we are, and because of that you could blab to your boss.”
“She has a point.” Ignis said, pressing the big red button, watching as a machine began crushing the pony alive. They heard his screams of pain, but ignored them, having been through this shtick before. “Besides, he had nothing going for him.”
***
Nova frowned when he walked into the comic shop. “The hell is all of this?” He said, looking at all the Kickplot propaganda. They even had a mannequin in a really cheap version of his suit. Over it hung a sign that read ‘Kickplot the comic: Coming soon.’
“Didn’t ya’ hear, lad?” The pony behind the counter asked. “Kickplot is big right now, so they are trying to squeeze out every bit they can from him.” He began pouring a cup of coffee in a mug that read ‘Kickplot’ on it. “Here ya’ go, on the house for my favorite customer.” Nova smiled and accepted it before walking to his normal table
If he wasn’t so afraid of keeping his identity secret, he’d have half a mind to sue the ass off whoever did this. Should’ve gotten himself trademarked when he had the chance.
***
Sceleri sat in a carriage. While most of them now of days were powered by magic, he still liked his to be pulled by other ponies. It allowed him to keep that feeling that he had power. When he looked out the window he saw something that filled him with rage. He saw Kickplot walking around in the middle of the day, giving passing ponies high hooves.
He banged on the window to get the pony pulling the carriages’ attention. “Follow him!” He shouted. The puller did exactly as he was told and followed Kickplot into an alley. Sceleri quickly got out “Hey Kickplot!” The pony waved at him Sceleri quickly bucked him in the face. “Kill my ponies will you?!” He began punching him. “Try to put me out of business?!” He punched the pony again.
“Well, guess what?” He pulled out his gun, only to be stopped by his bodyguard. When he looked he noticed a witness. “No witnesses!” He made quick work of shooting the pony. “Now for you to die!” He shot Kickplot in the head.
***
Nova sighed. He was back in his suit, even after he said he was going to retire it. He knew he had to check and see how many letters ponies had sent to Kickplot. He went to the old abandoned house that was known as Kickplot’s mailing address.
He saw a good pile of letters on the floor and began to sift through them. It was things like this that reminded him how worth it this could be.
***
“Are you fucking kidding me?” Sceleri said in an annoyed tone as he read the paper. “It was an impersonator!” Argentum sighed. He knew something like this would happen. “I swear, when I find Kickplot I am going to rip his head off my damn self!” He wanted Kickplot dead with every fiber in his body.
Unfortunately for him his son Adiuvantes had been eavesdropping. The door opened, causing him to fall in. “What the hell are you doing?” Sceleri asked, giving his son a glare. He was ready to send his son off to spend time with his uncle, and nopony liked his uncle. In fact, ponies feared him for good reasons.
“Dad, just listen to me,” Adiuvantes said, gulping, “I-I think I can help you catch Kickplot.” He received looks from both Sceleri and Argentum. “I just need some things.” He levitated a list of things onto his dad’s desk so both his dad and Argentum could read it.
“Adi, what the hell is all of this?”
“It’s what I need to catch Kickplot for you.” Adiuvantes said, hoping for the best and hoping his dad would do it. “You’ll just have to sell somepony out. Maybe Hyacintho.”
Argentum looked at Adiuvantes. “Woah, we can’t do that to Hyacintho”
“He’s a good pony.” Sceleri agreed
“Well, what about Flavo?” Adiuvantes suggested. He got a yes from both of them. Even they thought it would be a good idea. With that, he left the room, a smirk on his face.
“Comics, that’s all this kid reads.” Sceleri groaned. “But I suppose if he can catch Kickplot, it will be worth it in the end.”
“Agreed, sir.”
***
A few days had passed and Nova had avoided checking the mail for Kickplot for many reasons. He’d avoided going to the comic shop, but instead of lazing around on the couch, Evening and Shadow threw him out, quite literally. They forced him to go out and do something.
“What’s going on?” Nova asked, sitting next to Spring.
The news was on, talking about some mobster pony that had been caught. “Oh, some new super pony caught this insane drug dealer.” Nova cocked an eyebrow and turned his head to the TV.
“So it seems that even in today's world we still have modern heroes.” The news mare said while standing next to a pony in a pure red suit with a cape and mask on. “I am now talking to the pony who refers to himself as Red Mist. He was the one who caught Flavo, the criminal drug dealer that had been harboring Manehattan’s second largest drug deposit. Is there anything you’d like to say?” She asked.
“Well, the life of a superhero isn’t an easy one, but in the end it's all well and worth it.” He made sure to smile for the camera. “And I’m not going to lie, I was heavily inspired by Kickplot. He is the whole reason I got into crime fighting.”
Nova was shocked and bewildered. He had inspired somepony to dress up in costume and go around fighting crime. “Red Mist is hot.” Spring said looking, at the TV. “I mean, look at him. He’s much sexier than Kickplot.” She looked over at Nova. “What do you think? Is he your type?”
“Yes Nova, tell us is he your type?” Golden snickered with Lime.
“N-no, he isn’t.” Nova knew that his friends would never let him hear the end of it no matter what. But now he had to get to the bottom of who this new guy was. It seemed more and more heroes were appearing, with no signs of stopping.
Something has gone wrong. We don't seem to have an archived copy of that chapter.
