Chapter 10 : Step Three - Stress Test

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

“What is a Pinkie Pie Party?” Harry and I asked in unison. Applejack and Rainbow Dash just looked at us and started giggling.

“You’ll see,” was all we got from Rainbow Dash, Applejack just wordlessly turned and motioned for us to follow. We looked at each other and shrugged before following the 2 mares to where ever the party was being held. It was getting pretty late, the sun was setting, and with the exception of us it seemed everything was getting ready for bed.

“Pssst, Dave, what do you think will be at the party,” Harry whispered, trying to be as exclusive to me as possible.

“I have no idea, possibly a few games, some snacks, and some music, why do you ask?” I replied in a hushed tone. Harry just shook his head and wordlessly focused on our destination. I gave him a suspicious look and shrug, turning to get a better view of our surroundings. It looked like we were heading to the edge of town.

Meanwhile...

“Hey, get that banner up, and Lyra, quit sampling the frosting wait until the party starts!” Twilight shouted trying to coordinate the last minute arrangements for the party. Pinkie had snuck back to her library earlier and asked for help in setting up the last minute details. Twilight just couldn’t say no, she had already made a list for things t the party, it would’ve been a waste if she refused to help.

Pinkie was in the back making sure the entertainment was all set up and ready to go. Twilight didn’t know who that could possibly be. But right now, she didn’t have time to-

“Bon-bon, I swear if you even think about dipping your hoof in the punch, I will tape your hoof to your mouth and leave it there for the rest of the night,” Twilight so rudely interrupted my voice over. As you can see though, everything should be read-

“They’re coming!” Yelled a black coat and grey maned pegasus.

“Darn it, I thought we had more time, get that banner up, and everyone get to your places!” Twilight instructed everyone to get to their hiding spots. She spun around to make sure the banner was up and smiled before ducking behind
the stage that was setup. This was quite possibly going to be the best party ever.

“Shoot, gotta let Pinkie know!” Twilight said, before getting up and dashing to the back of the barn.

“Is everything set up?”

“Yeah, it’s all set up, all you have to do to bring it out, is push this button,”

“Really, that’s so cool!”

“Yeah, believe me, you have no idea how hard it was to set it up,”

“I appreciate it, Pinks, and I will do everything in my power to make this be the best party ever toni-oh, looks like we have company,” Pinkie turned around to see Twilight standing there, surprised.

“Pinkie, is that-“

“TWILIGHT, What’s going on, wait, don’t look, close your eyes!” Pinkie said before jumping over and placing a hoof over each of her friend’s eyes. She then motioned for the entertainer to hide somewhere. When she was sure Twilight couldn’t see the surprise guest, she took her hooves from Twilights eyes and grinned innocently.

“W-was that… never mind, they’re almost here, Pinkie,” Twilight said shaking her head slightly and giving a quick turn to head back to the main room.

“Already, that’s pretty fast, even for me,” Pinkie said, before pushing Twilight back out. Once she was gone, she went to talk to the entertainer again. A few last minute tweaks, but everything will be perfect. It had to be. She turned to her guest and smiled.

“I hope you’re ready, because it’s about show time!” Pinkie said excitedly before dashing out to go hide with the others.

“Yeah yeah, I’m ready…”

Back outside the barn…

“So, how big is this party?” Harry asked, trying to get a feel of how popular they can get tonight.

“I think just about everypony in Ponyville showed up,” Applejack said, trying to think back.

“Huh, that’s a pretty big party then, isn’t it?” I inquired, my nerves a bit on edge.

“Oh you know it, Pinkie throws some of the best parties, and ones like these, she makes sure everyone gets involved!” Dash exclaimed, trying to hype us up for it. Harry was all on board for it, I however, was not so built up for it.

We kept our pace up and soon we came up to the barn. It was fairly large, and if you listened closely, you could hear the hushed murmurs of the ponies inside. It sounded like a surprise party, but they weren’t doing a very good job keeping it quiet.

Applejack went to one of the large doors, and Rainbow Dash went to the other. They took hold and pulled them apart, revealing a large, dark room. We couldn’t really see anything until we could get something lit inside.

“Where is everyone?” I wondered. I turned to Harry who just shrugged. I turned my gaze back to the dark room and took a deep breath. Well, now or never. I started to make my way in, and Harry started following me.

The lights came on, and everyone jumped out and yelled, “SURPRISE!!!” which quite frankly scared the heck outta me. I almost instantly fell back and started hyperventilating.
Harry just jumped up and yelled, “AWSOME!”

It didn’t take long for me to recover, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t startled. Everyone there had mixed expressions of worry and elation towards us. It was… well… a bit weird for me. I think Harry was too hyped up to really pay attention. After glancing around the crowd, I carefully made my way to my… hooves… and gave a quick stretch, popping various points in my back and neck.

There was a silence among the crowd, and I wasn’t sure why. No one there was even whispering to one another. The silence was eventually broken by the familiar voice of Pinkie Pie.

"Everypony, please help me welcome Harry and David, they're new here in Ponyville," She said, somehow holding a megaphone. I was just about to ask how, where, and why... but before I could, murmuring sprang up, and we eventually had a few voices from the crowd gave a warm hello or welcome.

"They're going to be at Rarity's until they get set up with their own homes, and I'm sure they'll help if you ask because they're super duper duper nice!" Pinkie said, before barreling from the top of what looked like a stage, and grabbing my pal and I in a double side headlock.

"Ack, um... h-help... A-Applejack? Rainbow Dash?" I pleaded for help from the vice grip of the pink pony. It didn't take long for them to snicker and nudged Pinkie, who reluctantly released her grip. I gave a quick cough and took a deep breath. I looked over at Harry... who just flopped onto the ground, breathing for dear life.

This made a few of the ponies in the crowd chuckle lightly. I rolled my eyes... he was always such a drama queen...

Oh hush Davie, you like to exaggerate some too!

Point taken.

Oh, but here comes the best part!!!

And... the best part is...?

"Everypony, come inside, we're going to get this party started!" Pinkie said, before vanishing in a pink blur into the barn. Harry, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, and myself all looked at each other briefly before trailing into the packed building.

Everyone glanced around trying to find the hostess. when a few of them gave up, they came and introduced themselves to us. There was one named Lyra, who when she isn't working part time at the bakery on the other side of town (owned by her friend, Bon-Bon), is busy composing works on a small harp, or Lyre as she calls it.

Another, named Cheerilee, works at the school. She sounded very nice, but something told me that she isn't lenient if you do anything she doesn't approve of. Then another one, Berry Punch, she manufactures bottles of wine, jelly, juice, anything that can be made with fruit. However, due to the lack of any fruit farms other than Sweet Apple Acres, she has to order her ingredients from other parts of Equestria.

There are a few more whose names escape me at the moment, but after about 20 or so minutes of meeting and greeting other residents, the party eventually sparked up when we got an earful of something with a microphone.

"Fillies and Gentlecolts, if I may direct your attention to the stage, I would like to once again welcome Harry and David to Ponyville!" a very bright and bubbly voice said over a large speaker system. A spotlight eventually came on, and quickly moved over to where we stood, and there was a light applause. Harry gave a big wave, I grinned sheepishly and fidgeted lightly.

It eventually spun back and pointed at the stage. On top of which, stood Pinkie Pie, wearing 3-d glasses, and had a few glow sticks strung around her neck.

"Now, one and all, put your hooves together, than stamp them on the ground for the one and only, Vinyl Scratch - DJ P0n-3!!!" she bouncced once and pulled the plug on the mic, causing a bit of feedback. there was a quick second spike of feedback as the speakers changed feeds to what I assume was a personal mic.

"Hey one and all, lemme hear ya if you're ready to get loose and get this part-ay really started!" came a voice from the speakers. The entire room came alive in an uproarious cheer.

We heard a beep, and all of a sudden, there rolled a low cloud of fog. First on the stage, but it slowly billowed out and covered the floor of the entire room. Everyone began chanting something, not entirely sure what though. I don't visit a whole lot of raves, so pardon if my chanting translation isn't up to snuff.

Then the stage seemed to come to life, and something started rising out of it. Everyone started cheering again, however, Harry and I just gave a blank stare before it started poking out of the low rolling fog. It looked... like a table of some kind.

How very astute of you, David.

What the... GET OUT OF MY NARRATION!

Sheesh, stingy...

Nosy...

We were beginning to get lost again when a bright flash of light appeared on the stage. It flared up and vanish, and the spotlight went ffrom a standard white light, to a magenta light. In place of the flash of light, stood a white unicorn with a blue mane and tail, and a cutie mark... in the shape of a musical note. She had a headset with a mic that reached around to near her mouth, and a pair of steam punk glasses. The glasses were a red frame and a greenish-blue shade of lenses.

"Now, lets get things kickin'!" she cheered, as her horn lit up. the aura reached out and shifted something on the table, which made the speakers come to life with music. Strangely enough, it was techno... Everyone in the room started dancing and bouncing to the beat.

The music and dancing lasted hours. It was a real blast, however nothing really got accomplished other than we learned that everyone loves this DJ P0n-3. She was alright, but techno is techno, after awhile it meshes together. I eventually got sore enough from the dancing that I decided to go bum around the snack table for a bit.

I wasn't the only one as there were a few others hanging around. Lyra and Bon-Bon were chatting under the music, and Twilight was at the other end, enjoying a cup of the punch that was sitting near her. I tried giving a light wave to her, but she wasn't paying attention. Figures.

I started glancing at all the different foods on the table. There were cupcakes, cookies, and gum drops, oh my! Slices of pie, and cake, and cups of already poured punch. I glanced at everything for the longest time, but I eventually just settled for a cup of punch and a cupcake I snagged on the way over to an empty corner. I slumped down to enjoy my snack in peace before I heard an all too familiar voice over the music.

"Sooooo, how ya likin' the party, isn't it awsome?" Pinkie said, still hyper, but a bit out of breath from nonstop dancing.

"Eh, its alright, not much of a rave lover myself," I said, before tossing the cupcake into my mouth and chewing it slowly, savoring its flavor. It turned out that this particular cupcake was chocolate, with a custard cream topping. It was mind-blowing to say the least.

"Well, you like the food at least, right?" Pinkie said, taking a seat next to me. I kept chewing slowly, savoring every bite into the succulent snack.

"Pinkie...thish... thish cupcake... ish... AMASHING!" I said, not even swallowing to give her an answer. It was that good! She lit up at that, and her eyes shone like the night sky. I hadn't noticed before swallowing the food and taking a sip of the punch. It was like someone took apple juice, mixed in blueberry, and a bit of strawberry and... something more...

"And how do you like the punch, I mixed it myself," She said, her face now shifting into a rather sly look... uhhhh ohhhh...

"P-Pinkie... what did you put in it?" I asked, a bit shaky now.

"Oh... just a few different juices... and... some... w-well..." She said, turning her gaze to the ground and giving a giggle. Oh dear sweet mother Mary, I think I just got drugged by a pink pony...

My eyes windened and my mouth dropped open... Pinkie used this to take my cup of punch, and pour the rest of it down my throat. I began tearing up and coughing. Pinkie blushed a bit, and giggled. My vision blacked out and the world fell into confusion once more...
