What you call "Ponies" I call "Tuesday"
Chapter 8: Of Rainbows and Bunnies
Previous ChapterNext ChapterI ran through town, partially out of fear of Applejack. But my main goal right now was finding Harry. If he was flying though, I’d be hard pressed to get to him. Wait, I know a pegasus, maybe she can help.
“But wait, where does she live,” I said to myself, grinding to an abrupt stop. I rubbed the side of my head in thought, trying to map out the town. Let’s see… I know she doesn’t live IN town, and I think she said something about being close to the forest. Well, time to get over to the forest and see if I can find her place.
I glanced around quickly to find the Everfree off some ways to my right. Well then, better get goin’. I took a deep breath and sprinted off towards the edge of the Everfree to find Fluttershy’s place.
Back in town
Applejack was tending to her goods, making sure they were in top condition to be sold. It was a slow day, not that she was complaining. This gave her a bit of time to relax before the big Applebucking season that was coming up. She gave a big yawn and and looked up at the sun, covering her eyes from the majority of the rays. “Ah reckon it’s about 2:00, I wonder when-“ was all she managed to mutter before an explosion of pink, sugary energy surged in front of her.
“Hi, whatcha doin’ Applejack,” Pinkie exploded, unable to contain her excitement.
“Oh, hi Pinkie, I’m just mindin’ th’ stand here, it’s been a slow day so I was thinking of packing up and heading back to Sweet Apple Acres, soon, why,” the cowgirl responded, curious as to what the hyperactive Pinkie Pie was going to do with this information.
“Oh, then you can help me get everything ready,” Pinkie said, bouncing up and down happily.
“Ready, what for,” AJ asked skeptically. She didn’t know why she asked, because it was no doubt something for a party.
“Why, the ‘Welcome to Ponyville’ party for David and Harry, silly,” the pink mare answered bouncing in a circle around the stand now.
“Raight… well gimme ‘till about 3:00 and I’ll help however I can” Applejack said, with a nod.
“Okie dokie lokie, I’ll see you at 3:00 then,” Pinkie said, before whizzing away in a pink blur. Applejack rubbed the side of her head, she learned not to ask, but was still amazed at the energy and speed of her pink friend.
Off to Fluttershy’s
After walking the edge of the forest near Ponyville, and almost tripping on 3 bunnies, 2 meercats, a badger, 2 skunks, and almost being pecked to death by a wayward duck whose nest I almost stepped on, I finally got to Fluttershy’s cottage.
“Well, that was about as fun as the ACT,” I said, heaving out a large sigh. I sluggishly made my way up to her door. I glanced around and saw a lot of little animals scurrying around. Rabbits, cats, puppies, and all other kinds of animals gathered here for what I could only guess at was either attention or medical help.
Giving a light shrug, I knocked on her door. No answer, seriously doesn’t anyone answer the door on the first knock? I knocked again, a bit louder this time. The door swung open abruptly revealing… nothing at first. I looked behind me, and then back into the house. I was greeted by a rather loud *AHEM*, followed by rhythmic tapping.
I looked down to see a rather irate white bunny staring at me, tapping his foot. I stared back, processing the sight. A small white rabbit opened the front door, and is now staring at me…
“AHHHH, OH GOD THEY CAN OPEN DOORS NOW, NOONE IS SAFE, RUN AWAY!!!,” I shouted, spinning around and running to hide behind a nearby tree. The rabbit sighed and facepalmed when I took off. Shortly after my outburst, I heard a quiet voice coming from inside the cottage.
“Oh my, Angel, what did you do,” said a bewildered and slightly upset Fluttershy. Angel, as I heard his name called, shrugged and made a bunch of complicated gestures to try and tell his owner what happened. I peered out from behind the tree just as he was finishing his pantomimed explanation. Wonderfully done, for a rabbit…
“Oh, well then, I umm… oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t see you there, are you okay,” Fluttershy said, turning and slowly walking towards me.
“H…he can open doors, why didn’t anyone tell me,” I said, staring at Angel, who began chuckling at me.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t think it would scare you, nopony else seems to care that much either,” she replied, turning her head away from me. I shifted my gaze from Angel to the pegasus that was now in front of me.
“No, it’s fine, but a warning would’ve been nice,” I said, remembering back to the Monty Python and the Holy Grail bit with the killer rabbit. I glanced back at Angel, who had stopped laughing and was heading back into the cottage.
“Yeah, don’t worry, he won’t bite, or kick, well, won’t USUALLY kick,” Fluttershy said, turning her head back to me and giving me a nervous smile. I chuckled, yeah of course he doesn’t bite, then 5 om noms later I’m a headless man-pony and Angel has a belly full of my head.
“Heh, right, well I came here to ask a favor,” I said, focusing my gaze on Fluttershy. “I need you to do a quick flyover of Ponyville, Harry went missing and I think he might’ve flown away or is flying now, but I can’t see him so I need someone who can fly to go up and see if they can find him,” I blurted out in one big breath. Fluttershy took a small step back before answering.
“Umm… yeah well you see… I’m not a str-ong flier,” she said, turning into an inaudible mumble at the end.
“Please, I really need help with this,” I said, placing my forehooves on her shoulders. We didn’t get much longer in this conversation when we heard a voice shouting at us from the sky.
“HEY CREEP, LEAVE HER ALONE,” was all we heard before I took a blow to the forehead. This sent me spinning back down the hill in a ball.
“Whoahoahoahoahoahoahoahoahoa,” I moaned out each rotation before I hit a small bump in the field. This sent me flying a good couple of feet or so off the ground and I crashed back first into a tree, with a loud and very audible THUD! This bit wasn’t over, because gravity decided to show up, and bring me head first to the ground. I twitched in pain, which sent my body flying from against the tree to flopping on the ground.
“YAAATATATATATATATATATATATATATOWWWWWWW, WHYYYYYYYY,” I said, writhing in agony at the base of the tree. I was confused, and didn’t know which part of me to grab first, my back, my head, or to just curl up and wish the hurt away.
“Are you okay Fluttershy, what did that freak do to you,” said a cyan pegasus, and she landed by her friend.
Fluttershy gasped. “Ohh my, why did you do that Rainbow Dash, he was just asking for my help,” Fluttershy managed to speak up, though I imagine it wasn’t louder than her friend, whom I could hear all the way down here.
“Help? I just gave him some help, I gave him a lesson that he shouldn’t mess with the best flyer in all of Equestria’s friends,” Rainbow Dash said, puffing her chest out and making a heroic pose.
“Okay, oww, a little help here,” I yelled up at the 2 pegasi up the hill. They didn’t seem to notice me. Fantastic, one likes to kick others down a hill, and the other is too shy to do anything. I sighed before trying to get up. OW! Okay, bad idea, I guess I’ll just lie here until one of them comes to help me.
“No, he needed help finding his friend, he was practically begging me to help, but before I could answer him, you came down and knocked him down hi-,” Fluttershy went wide-eyed, and took off to go help the possibly injured stallion lying at the base of a tree at the edge of the forest.
“Huh? Diiiiid I miss something,” Rainbow Dash wondered to herself as she took off behind her flying friend.
“Oh dear… oh my… are you okay, are you hurt,” Fluttershy asked me nervously, landing right beside me.
“Well other than being hit in the head, sent flying down a hill like Sonic the Hedgehog, hitting a speed bump, being sent flying into the air, crashing into a tree, hitting my head on the ground, and belly flopping, I think I might be fine… ow… okay, not fine, pain, lots of pain,” I said, as she poked and checked for any broken bones or bruised ribs or anything else that might need attending to.
“W-well, I don’t feel any broken bones, probably some bruises in a bit here, we might want to get you up to my house, so you can rest a bit,” Fluttershy concluded, she tried lifting me on her back, but that didn’t work out to well. All that did was get me up off the ground far enough to hurt me if I got dropped, which I did.
“Ow, okay, new plan, just help me up,” I groaned out. She reached down and helped me to a standing position, which hurt more than I thought, but at least I was up off the ground.
“Okay, so what were you saying about him losing his friend and asking you for help,” said the cyan coated, rainbow maned pegasus that dropped out of the sky in front of me. I shook my head, and stifled a chuckle. “What’s his deal? Did I knock one of his screws loose or something,” Dash asked confusedly.
“Heh, it’ll take a bit more than that to make me crazy, no, I’m trying not to laugh at your hair color,” I said, biting my lip to stop a laugh from getting out.
“Oh, a wise guy huh? Would you like to take another trip downhill, mister,” the pegasus snapped, throwing a couple impromptu jabs.
“Wise guy? Possibly, but let’s not get too hasty, My name’s David, and you are…” I said, motioning for her to introduce herself.
“My name is Rainbow Dash, and I’m-“ I had to interrupt.
“The best flyer in Equestria, blah blah blah blah, I’ve heard,” I said, rolling my eyes.
“I see my reputation has preceeded me,” Dash quipped confidently.
“Only by seconds, I could hear you all the way down here, which by the way, the fastest flyer in Equestria? That seems a bit… excessive, don’t you think,” I inquired. Dash deflated and shot me a particularly seething glare.
“And who would be faster? You? You’re an Earth pony, you can’t fly,” the mare fumed menacingly at me. Whoah, seems I struck a nerve. Fluttershy shrank away, afraid of what was going to happen next.
“I never said I could fly faster, I only asked how could you be sure YOU were the fastest? Surely there must be other equally fast if not faster pegasi out there,” I replied, trying to defend my reasoning.
Dash huffed at me, then lightened her glare up a bit. “You know, you remind me of someone else in Ponyville, her name’s-“ I interrupted again.
“Let me guess, Twilight Sparkle?” I smirked, my turn to be confident.
“Yeah, how did you… never mind, you’d like her, she’s kinda the town egg head,” Dash said, her venomous glare lightening off her face almost entirely. Her expression was now changing to one of suspicion as she wondered how I knew her friends and not her.
“Oh yeah, I actually came from her place not too long ago, she lives in a tree-brary,” I said, chuckling at the poor wordplay.
“Yeah, anyways, you alright? You must’ve hit that tree pretty hard,” Rainbow Dash asked, motioning at my now bruised back. Oh crap, when did that show up!
“Oh dear, this is just what I fear, come on, we’ve gotta get some ice on that right away,” Fluttershy began almost dragging me to her house. I did my best to keep up, but now the pain flared up whenever I made any quick movements.
It wasn’t long before I was lying face down on a table with a rather large ice pack resting on my bruised back. It felt really cold, but nice as the pain went away and a refreshing coolness went in its place.
“So, who is this friend you’re looking for, Dave,” Dash smirked, somehow resisting the urge to pat me on the back.
“Oh, well, he’s a pegasus, about your height, white coat, dark blue mane and tail, and has a smiley face on his bum,” I crudely threw together a description of him. Yes, I know it’s a cutie mark, but somehow it just doesn’t sound right coming from me.
“’Mark on his bum,’ you mean his cutie mark,” Dash asked, wondering if I knew what it was.
“Yes, his… cutie mark… yes I know what it is, no I don’t feel comfortable saying it,” I said rather irritably.
Dash just shrugged before smirking at me. “Don’t worry, I’ll find him for ya, or my name isn’t Rainbow Dash,” said the pegasus, flexing her wings.
“Really, that would be so nice, I’d go with, but ahh, I’m rather… tied up at the moment,” I remarked, partially to remind her that she put me in this condition. She chuckled nervously.
“Yeah, sorry about that, but don’t worry, I’ll make it up to ya by finding your friend and bringing him here,” and with that, Dash walked out the door, and flew off towards Ponyville.
Back in Ponyville
Harry woke up, with a loud sneeze. He gave a couple alarmed blinks before rubbing his nose.
“Whew, well, when people are talkin’ ‘bout ya,” he said with a shrug. He stretched and let out a big yawn before flying down to the ground. “I wonder where David could be,” Harry pondered, looking around for any familiar faces. It didn’t take him long to find the ever familiar cowgirl. He grinned, and made his way over to Applejack.
“Hey Applejack, whatsa goin’ on wit choo,” Harry said, trying to pull off a fake Italian accent. It didn’t work, but Applejack didn’t know who he was at first.
“Now look here, pard’ner, I don’t know why you’re here but… wait, don’t I know you from somewhere,” AJ said, squinting at the pegasus.
“No, I don’t think so, you see I’m new in town and-,” Harry was cut off before he could put his fake backstory in view.
“Right, you’re that new boy, whats-‘is-name… Harry?” AJ said, giving brief thought to recall his name.
“Dang, okay, you caught me. Anyways, have you seen David anywhere?” Harry asked, not showing any sign of concern.
“Oh right, I think he was headed towards Fluttershy’s place, I reckon ya’ll might find him there,” AJ said, pointing towards the shy pegasus’ cottage.
“Cool, thanks,” Harry said with a smirk.
“Don’ mention it, hope ya find him, he seemed a might troubled when he couldn’t find ya,” AJ added.
“He does that, anyways I’ll see ya later,” and with that, Harry took off towards Fluttershy’s place. However, when he hit a certain altitude, he was greeted by startled yelling to move. This was followed by a pegasus crashing broadside into him, again, and the two of them tumbling off of a cloud, a roof, and finally to the ground below.
“Oww, sheesh, hey watch where you’re going, there are some of us who DON’T want to end up as a crater in the ground, y’know,” Harry said, rubbing his head.
“T’ch, me? I told you to move, it was your fault that we crashed into each other,” said Rainbow Dash, throwing Harry an accusing look.
“You could’ve swerved to miss me,” Harry threw out in his defense.
“And you could’ve flew up out of my way,” Dash countered. Harry’s eyes shot open in shock.
“Okay fine you win, my fault, sorry,” Harry said, hanging his head in defeat. Rainbow Dash grinned in self-satisfaction. She then got a closer look, and realized this was the stallion she was sent to look for.
“Hey, you’re Harry, right?” Dash asked rhetorically. She already knew the answer, she just wanted to cover all the bases.
“Yeah, why, wait, how do you know who I am?” inquired a rather lost Harry.
“Your friend is up at Fluttershy’s place, come on I’ll take you there,” Dash urged, before getting ready to fly away.
“Wait, which one was Fluttershy again?” Harry asked again, putting a hoof on his chin.
Rainbow Dash sighed. “Yellow pegasus, pink mane, butterflies for her cutie mark, quiet,” Dash said, rubbing the side of her head trying to describe her friend.
Harry shrugged. He didn’t recall who Fluttershy was, because he never really spoke to her. Dash facehoofed when she saw he was drawing a blank. “Ugh… this is gonna take a while…” Dash thought to herself, before walking off towards Fluttershy’s place, motioning Harry to follow. Harry took a quick look around and decided to follow the cyan pegasus.
Back at Fluttershy’s
“So… Fluttershy… Nice uhh… weather?” I tried to start a conversation, too bad I’m terrible at small talk.
“Umm… yes, it’s a nice day,” Fluttershy quietly responded, glancing out the window quickly.
“So… what do you like to do?” I doubled back and decided to try a different approach. It was met with some success.
“I umm… take care of the little critters around here, either with medical attention or anything else they might need like food or shelter,” Fluttershy spoke up a bit louder, but was still quiet. I wish I had a volume switch so I could turn her up to regular volume.
“Oh really? That’s actually pretty cool, I have quite a number of pets back home,” I smiled. I remembered all of the dogs and cats I had at home. It was frightening, because every time we gave one away we somehow found two more.
“Oh? What kind of pets?” Fluttershy leaned closer to me from her spot on the chair next to the table I was on.
“Let’s see, I believe we are at 2 dogs and 5 cats at the moment. We have one Siamese, two tabbies, a Persian, and an Aegean cat. And both dogs we have are German Shepherds.” I concluded with a nod. Fluttershy was speechless. “What?” I asked, breaking her trance on me.
“Oh, umm… it’s just that I didn’t know anypony else could care for more than two critters at once. You must’ve been very busy.” She was finally speaking, which was a start.
“Not really, but you shouldn’t get too attached to your clothes, they’ll get coated with fur in about two days’ time,” I snickered, which caused her to giggle quietly. It felt nice having a conversation with someone that didn’t break topics every three seconds. But before we could get any further, the front door swung open.
Fluttershy and I both turned to see a pink mare in the doorway.
“Fluttershy, thank Celestia you’re here I need you to do something for m-“ Pinkie stopped mid-sentence when she realized I was laying on the table next to her friend.
“Oh, don’t mind me, please continue,” I grinned at the now sweating mare.
“David! Quit trying to spoil it!” Pinkie yelled before dashing out the door in a pink blur. Oh no, not this time.
“Alright, play hard ball,” I quickly got off the table, dropping the half melted ice pack to the floor. My bruise was still visible, but it didn’t hurt as bad as it did earlier. I got ready to chase Pinkie when I heard a timid voice squeak out behind me.
“You s-shouldn’t umm… be up and running yet… y-your umm…” She was stuttering, I guess shocked from how things are unfolding in front of her.
“What? Catch Pinkie Pie? You got it!” I said. Not intending to make fun of her, but more to motivate me to run as fast as I could after the hyperactive pink blur. I crouched down, and sprinted as fast as I could out the door.
“I’m coming for you,” I started chanting, as I picked up speed. One good thing about following a blur is the trail leads you straight to where they’re going. And so, pushing myself to the limit, I made my mad chase, straight into Ponyville.

Author's Note: You might've noticed the lack of Pinkie Pie narration. For obvious reasons, she's withdrawn from 4th wall breaking until after the party. Which by the way I happen to be inadvertently, and now determined to be spoiling. You might've noticed a time lapse between last chapter and this one. It will be explained next chapter, unless something comes up. Also, Rainbow Dash hits like a truck. End of conversation.
