I was walking down an empty road towards my home. It was friday and I was looking forward to the weekend. Other people never seem to walk this road, and this is a great place to be alone. However, I was passing an alleyway, and I could hear some whimpering and sobs, but barely. I thought it was my imagination at first, but it came again, a little louder. I figured out that it has got to come from the alleyway. The place was full of boxes, but it still wasn't so dirty. So I thought to go check it out, since I had nothing to lose.
I started climbing the boxes and pushed them aside to get forward. But I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it. Now, most of you would probably think "oh, now he will find a foal (insert pony name here), then take care of it, then Celestia comes and brings it back, the end". Well all I can say is both yes and no. Mostly no. First of all, it was a pony, but a fully grown unicorn mare, not a foal. Secondly, she was laying on her side in a huge puddle of blood. I could see her breathing slowly, and small sparks from her horn come from time to time. I could barely make out her purple mane and coat and the purple star cutie mark we all know from all the blood, but I still knew it was her. How she was here didn't matter, all that mattered was that she needed urgent help!
I quiclky approached her and started taking off my jacket to pick her up. Just as I was close to her she opened her eyes and saw me. She obviously started to hyperventilate, as one would normally do at this situation, so I didn't blame her. However, when she saw me her horn started glowing more than before, and a purple light slowly enveloped her, as if she was trying to teleport away, but quickly faded and she gasped for precious air. It wasn't until she gasped that I noticed the huge wound she had on her belly. It was a deep cut from her chest to the middle of her belly, and it was bleeding. Alot.
I stepped in the puddle of blood, put my jacket over her wound and rolled her over on her back, slowly picking her up in my arms. She was very hot (not in a creepy way), almost burning to the touch, which indicated she had a very high fever. I strapped my jacket around her so it would stop the bleeding a little, and started carefully walking through the piles of boxes. One look at the wound told me that I couldn't save her myself, she needed professional help. When I passed the boxes, she started to say something.
"P-please, d-don't hurt m-me" I could barely hear her voice. I moved my mouth close to her ear and whispered "don't worry, I won't."
She seemed to be calmed by what I said, as she started breathing slower than before.
"Do you think you can hold yourself together until we arrive at the hospital?" I asked. She nodded slowly and looked at me with half closed eyes, putting up a small smile. My heart fluttered with brony excitement when she did that, but I had to get us to the hospital. For her. For Twilight.
I started to pick up my pace. The hospital was a few blocks from where I was, luckily, so it took me a few minutes to get there with Twilight in my arms. As I entered the door, I instantly went to the receptionist and told her that this pony needed urgent help. I could tell that she was surprised to see a young boy with a purple bleeding unicorn in his arms.
"Look, are you gonna help her or what. She has a deep cut from her chest to her belly and has lost a lot of blood, she won't survive for long if you don't help her right away. It doesn't matter i f she's a pony, the closest vet is miles away" well, not really, it was just like, 2-3 blocks away, but she would probably be dead halfway there.
I saw her hesitate for a moment, but then she picked up a phone of some kind and said she had an emergency patient with blood loss and needed doctors and an operation room right away. She told me I could go home after this, but I said that I'm staying with her no matter what. She seemed satisfied with my answer.
Thirty seconds later, a few doctors came running with some kind of bed with wheels. I told them that this pony was the patient and she needed help right away. When they saw the poor unicorn they all hesitaded, probably not what they expected (hey, how would you react if you saw a guy with a random unicorn?),until I removed my jacket from her and showed them the cut. This seemed to work as they nodded to each other and told me to put her on the hospital bed.
"W-what are you d-doing?" She said weakly.
"Don't worry, you will be fine, I promise" I reassured her, before putting her on the hospital bed. They started running towards an operation room, and I followed them. When they entered, one of them told me to wait outside, so I took a seat and waited. That's when I noticed everyone was staring at me, but I didn't care. I may have just saved a unicorns life, and just any unicorn, but Twilight Sparkle herself!
That's when reality sunk in. A pony? Twilight? Did this just happen? Am I dreaming? I pinched myself to check.
"Ow" I whispered.
20 minutes later, a doctor came out of the door and walked up to me. He had a glorious beard, and looked like he was in his sixties. I couldn't tell what he was going to say, because he had the second best pokerface I had ever seen. I stood up and looked at him. That white beard was really glorious. I bet he's proud of it.
"Soo...how did it go?" I asked, both nervous and worried.
He started "son, if it wasn't for you strapping your jacket around that friend of yours, I don't think she would have survived. She is alive now thanks to you."
My heart jumped around in excitement. I had just saved someones, or rather, somepony's, life!
"But may I just ask you a question. How did this happen?" He said.
"Um, well, you see, I was walking home, and accidentally found her in an alleyway, so I wrapped my jacket around her wound and brought her here." I said, proud of my actions.
"Well, boy, what you did today saved somepony's life, and you should feel proud" he gave me a wink. Oh my godness! He's a brony too!
"Would you like to see her?" He asked. I nodded and followed him in.
Twilight was sleeping in a more comfortable bed right now, and they had sewed her wound up. She looked so peaceful and helpless when she slept, and again did my heart flutter. I was so happy! They had washed away the blood too, which made me look at my hands. They were completely red. In the room was a small door saying "WC", so I went in there and washed my hands and removed the small amount of blood from my clothes.
I went back in and sat beside her bed in a chair. I don't know why I did this, but I slowly grabbed her hoof and held it as if she was going to slip away and never come back. Her fever had lowered a little, but she was still hot (for god's sake, not in a creepy way!). A few moments later, her breath started to go a little faster and she slowly opened her eyes. Suddenly her eyes started to dart around the room and her breathing went faster and faster, until her eyes locked on me, and she calmed down. She noticed that I was holding her hoof, but didn't do any attempts to remove it. So we just stared at each other for a moment, until I decided to break the silence.
"Sooo, how are you feeling?" I asked. She looked down her body. A white blanket was covering half of it. She looked back to me and opened her mouth to say something, but closed it. She opened it again, but still nothing came out.
The third time though she decided to say something.
"W-why did you help me?" She asked. "Humans don't normally help strangers in need, they just mind their own business. But why didn't you do do it?" She asked. I was a bit taken aback by her question, but what would you expect from someone who reads books about running a race and coming fifth place?
"Well, I couldn't just stand there and let you be. You were in trouble, and so I decided to help you." I said.
"Yes, but why?" She asked.
I thought for a moment, and said "if I was in the same situation as you were, would you just give me a glance and walk away?"
"Well, no, but..."
"Exactly. You see, not all humans think about themselves. I'm one of them. I help everyone I can that needs help, whether their problems may be big or small.
That includes you too." Mouth, please warn me next time before you say something like that.
She smiled. I smiled back.
I wanted to ask her how she ended up there, what happened there and why she was here, but she was probably in no condition to tell me right now.
"So, are you going to answer my question?" I said.
She giggled and said "I'm fine, thank you. By the way, what is your name?"
I thought for a moment, before answering.
"My name is Rex. Rex Walker."
