Chapter 1- The Declaration: Luna

Luna had been in Twilight`s bedroom, watching her sleep. There was something hypnotic about it that made Luna watch her- the way her chest heaved in sync with her breath, the occasional moving and muttering in her sleep. Of course, these were just excuses, for Luna knew herself that she was in love with Twilight. And even though admittedly it was quite taxing to watch her sleep for so long, it was not boring at all. For Luna loved her.

However, Twilight did not know about her feelings. No one did. Not even her sister. She had tried to break this news to Twilight, but everytime she wanted to, she always found herself not able to speak. And she cursed herself for that. She was going to tell her the next morning, no matter the implications it might bring. She wanted to let this all out, as it had been burdening her since a few weeks ago. And she knew, if she could not bring up the courage the next morning, she never would in the future. With those thoughts in mind, she flew out of Twilight`s bedroom.

"Strange...It felt like somepony was watching me last night..." Twilight muttered as she woke up.

Before doing anything else, she reached for her calender, which had schedules written down on it.

"Lets see...today Im supposed to...theres nothing written here, so its a free day. Huh."

She then proceeded to clean herself up, and before long she was all ready to do...nothing.

"Don`t really know what to do today..." Twilight thought to herself.

Occasionally, she had days where there werent anything planned for her. And on those days, she could relax...but she had the same problem everytime during this 'free' days. She didnt know what to do.

"I guess I`m going to...ahhhhh!" Twilight screamed.

A huge ball of dark magic had just appeared in her library. Not an everyday sight. "I must be hallucinating." Twilight rubbed her eyes. It was still there. "Okay, this is weird." She hesitantly walked forward and tentatively touched it with her hoof.

The dark ball of energy shimmered and disappeared, and left behind a...chuckling Luna, who was rolling on the floor laughing.

"Uh......"Twilight was speechless.

"You should have seen your reaction when I entered! It was priceless!"

"Err...thanks?" Twilight meekly responded, aware of the blush that was creeping up her cheeks.

Luna laughed for a few seconds more, before managing to stand on her hooves.

"I actually came here to tell you something..."Luna said, her tone immediately turning serious.

Twilight cringed at the sudden change in her voice. This was going to be bad...

"I am...in...in.......in......" Luna stammered.

"What?" Twilight asked.

"I mean to say, I am...in...in......lo...lo...oh, why is it so hard to say?" Luna disappeared instantly.

"Okay...that was...uhh...a nice talk, I guess." She said.

That was strange. What was Luna going to say? Why did she find it so hard to tell her? And why did she just leave her in the middle of their conversation. She could not help pondering these questions as she went to read a book while waiting for Spike to wake up and make breakfast, for she was horrible at it.

"What is wrong with me? Why cant I just say it! It was only six words!" Luna thought. She wanted to kick herself in the flank. But she knew that those words could change everything. However, she had promised herself that she would tell Twilight this morning, and it seemed Luna had failed to do so. "Wait, technically it is still morning. I might still be able to make it!" Luna told herself. "Okay, this time dont be scared. Just relax, take a deep breath, and tell her how you feel. Imagine it as a normal conversation." Luna calmed herself down with these thoughts. But deep down, she did not feel optimistic. Twilight was not just a friend...she was more than that to her. And it was not just a normal conversation, was it? It was more of a declaration of her feelings than a conversation.

Twilight had finished reading quite a couple of books before Spike woke up. Spike looked at her and the pile of books beneath her...and realized she was waiting for him to wake up.

"Sorry Twilight! I didnt mean to make you wait! Ill go make breakfast now!" Spike apologized.

"You always wake up at this time, dont worry. And I didnt mind at all." Twilight flashed her a smile.

Spike gave her a smile back and immediately ran to the kitchen to make breakfast. The smell of pancakes was overwhelming her senses, and she drooled a little. She was hungry, after all.

As she ate her freshly made pancakes, she could not help but think about what had just happened.

Thirty minutes before afternoon. Time was ticking away, and Luna was pacing around in her private bedchambers. "What should I say? Should I send her a present?" she said to nobody in particular. She glanced at the clock again. This was bad... she was running out of time. It was driving her crazy. Just then, a knock on her door interrupted her thoughts.

"Luna? Are you busy? I have something I need to ask you." The unmistakable voice of Celestia rang out.

Luna sighed. This was going to waste even more of her precious time, but if she rejected Celestia she would be suspicious.

"Sure, Tia. The doors are not locked."

Celestia hesitantly stepped inside, her expression filled with sadness but here eyes twinkling like diamonds.

"What happened to you Tia? You somehow look sad...yet feel happy inside."

" I was going to ask you, since you control the night, when ponies...ahem...make love." Celestia's face was red now.

"I...I don't get it...what do you want to know about that?" Luna could not help laughing. This was the first time she saw Celestia so embarrassed and unlike herself. This was one of the rare occasions in which Luna could extract information out of Celestia that she wouldn't normally tell Luna.

"It's not that! It's just...well, how do ponies admit their love for others?"

"You're in love aren't you, I mean, it is quite obvious from the questions you're asking." Luna leant a little bit closer to Celestia, and whispered into her ear, causing Celestia to flinch. "Who's the one?"

" I...I...can't tell you." Celestia muttered, her voice just audible enough for Luna to hear.

"Stallion or mare?"

Celestia's blush grew even redder, and she whimpered. "A...m...mare."

"Lucky for her, then."

Celestia gave a weak smile. " No, Luna. It's not her that is lucky to have me, it is the other way round."

"Then why are you sad? Isn't it good news?" Luna was confused now.

"Because, like all others...she will die someday. And it will hurt a lot." Celestia's smile disappeared.

"But to love while you can...it's all that matters. It's always worth it in the end, isn't it?"

"I know...but I still feel this way." Celestia sighed.

Both of them stayed silent for awhile, before Celestia gave a soft chuckle, which caught Luna attention.

"What is it, Tia?"

"I just realized, we have talked so much, yet you have not answered my question."

Luna laughed. She never noticed that until now.

"Just tell her truthfully, Celestia. Just tell her the truth on how you feel about her." Luna realized that would solve her problem too...the time!

Luna glanced at the clock again. Five minutes left! She knew it wasn't actually a must to tell her before the morning ended, but...she felt the need to, for she had failed to so many times. And, mostly, because she was excited...and terrified at the same time. For she wanted to know if Twilight would accept or...she gulped. Reject her love.

"Sorry Tia, but I really have to go now!" Luna said in an anxious tone.

"I thought you said you weren't busy?"

"Just now I wasn't! Now I am!"

Luna hurriedly teleported away.

Twilight had nothing to do, so she decided to do something useful- she was on her way to buy some groceries. She had forgotten all about the incident this morning, and was humming a tune to herself. Just then, Luna appeared right in front of her, causing Twilight to jump back and scream in fright. Twilight fell down, her back hitting the floor."

"Sorry, Twilight! I didn't mean to do that, but I was in a hurry, and needed to talk to you." Luna exclaimed, and lifted Twilight up.

"Princess Luna, just don't do that again..." Twilight moaned, her heart still threatening to explode.

"I came here to tell you something...something which I had wanted to tell you weeks ago."

"Is it related to the one earlier just now?"

"...Yes."

This was going to be big news. What could it be? Twilight thought. Maybe something major cropped up, and they needed Twilight's help. Maybe the changelings invaded Equestria again. Or Sombra somehow returned.

"Twilight..." Luna spoke, steeling herself to continue on.

Twilight could sense Luna was going to continue on, so she stayed silent.

"I am in love with you."

It took a full five seconds before the meaning of the words dawned on Twilight.

"WHAT???" Twilight screamed, her mind overflowing with thoughts.
