Ever been on a Track-day? No!? I love them..........well used too anyway, tell a lie I still do, getting that licence was the best gift I ever gave myself......and the worst. First one I went to was Donnington second was Snetterton, third and fourth was Cadwell Park I regret the fourth here's why.
2pm Coming out of the pits fresh 3 compound rubber the good stuff! Turn one easy 120 mph, holding the speed throughout the fresh tires gripping the asphalt, two and three Charlies easy knee scraper 70-90mph, clutch in down into 3rd hold at 10,000rpm roll on the throttle after the strips finish, Park Straight easy to max out my R6 186mph! Testing the aerodynamic's my one fault happened here at turn four entered it at around 100mph faster than my previous laps determined to get the "Brass Balls Award for bravest lap" I carry the high speed through the un-named corner, when I notice a glint just on the red and white strips about 1 meter into them, most of you would say "oh it's just fine glass dust" we all do, I did at the time and doing 100mph into a turn hell your lucky too think anyway well it wasn't glass it was a ring pull, Monster to be precise and I hit it and hell it made me come off, another thought to yourself is "red and white strips there raised in sections why go on them anyway?" On corners there not there slidey as hell but they mark apex lines for day riders and obvious at night anyway, I hit the ring-pull and the apex marker, my front wheel tries to give, I go into training mode;
Keep calm
Clutch in
Roll off throttle
Gently dab rear bake
RACE ON!
It worked! I lean back in on the ring pull! High side with a Buck crash only thing I remember was literally seeing Asphalt turn too Sky turn to grass turn too sky turn too very coarse gravel and two seconds later dazed a trashed R6 hit me square in the Helmet!
Authors note! The IICON Variant is a exceptional helmet it kept me alive when this happened I recommend them, yes his parts true!
I was Alive! Adrenalin fueled through my veins, I tried to stand but fell to my knees , nope but I could crawl, so I did too my precious bike the only thing more important to me than my fiancée, too see her lying there all torn apart was heart breaking then suddenly darkness overcame me, I was knocked out!
