“Well that was interesting. I guess she isn’t so bad if you can handle her ... uniqueness.”  Genesis smiled to himself  as he walked along the cobblestone road

I continued on down the street, as I considered whether, or not I should wait until the sun starts to go down. Now that the sun was up evrypony would easily notice the overly thin, and strange stallion in the trench coat, and might start asking questions.

That was something I wanted to avoid, since I never liked to be the center of attention, despite the fact that I am  comfortable with how overly strange he was, with my ghostly blue coat skeletal like build and prehensile tail, but there went to many ponies around.

In the end I decided to continue on towards Pinkie’s friend, since this seemed to be a quiet enough town and if I get his bag fixed now I wouldn't have to stop later on.

“Well, I'm lost.” Gen said, as he looked around at all the buildings. “Maybe I should have gone further down the road before turning?”Gen doubled back, and turned back onto the main road.

When i turned back I passed by another oddity in this town called Ponyville. A zebra! She had a hood pulled over her head, but I swear she gave me an evil look as he passed eachother. It was a cold, dark stare like she could see into my soul.

He hardly had time to notice it, before they they passed each other, and with and with the passing of each other, the thought of her gaze had left his mind. But the strangeness of seeing her did not, despite the distance Genesis had travelled, he had never see a zebra in person before.

“Well I’m glad I stuck around.”  Gen chuckled after saying that, wondering if it really was an ok idea to stay.

The thought of leaving town bounced  around in my head as I reached the the bridge. And as I walked over, I noticed something. A small filly crying on the bank, as her small sail boat now lay on the bottom of the stream, as I passed over the bridge, and without a second though I refloated the filly’s boat, not saying a word as i focused my mind .

The purple maned filly looked up as Gen reached the other side, unable to grasp the magnitude of what just happened.

The filly didn’t care how, but she had her boat back, and was happy once again.

Not far from the bridge was the dress shop, he was told about. Outside tending to the rose garden was the small purple dragon that he had seen the day before.

Well, this will be interesting. Gen thought, as he remembered an encounter he had with a  similar sized dragon, rubbing his leg where a large burn was still slightly visible under his fur, before walking up to the door. The little dragon was too consumed by his work, and did not notice Genesis, until the bell on the door rang as Gen entered.

“I’ll be there in just a moment, if you would be so kind as to wait.” A cheerful voice called from the back.

I wonder if that's her? Gen thought, referring to the alicorn he saw the day before, who was with the little dragon.

Gen looked around, feeling uncomfortable, as he glanced over the dresses, and hats, and accessories that filled the room. It was strange being in the shop, standing there in his old and weatherbeaten trenchcoat and bag.

“Oh my! You look a little bit rough, don’t you dear.” A white mare came out from behind a curtain, her dark purple hair, elegantly bounced as she flipped it back, making a grand entrance, as she trotted over.

“Well I can fix you right up! Welcome to the Carousel Boutique. I cater to the fashion needs of the female variety, but I'm sure I can get you looking like a proper stallion in no time.” She said, as she came to stand right in front of Gen.

You bitch... Gen thought, as he realized, that that was an insult, whether or not she realized what she had just said.

“I suppose you’re Rarity …”

“The one and only!” She quickly added in, cutting Gen's sentence short. “Why have you heard of me?” Rarity inquired, as she batted her eyelashes.

“Ah yeah, I was told by your friend Pinkie Pie, that you might be able to repair my pack. It’s a bit worn out at the harness and I'm not able to fix it myself.” Gen said, eager to get out of the shop.

Rarity leaned to the side, to see around his head at the pack. Gen turned away slightly, so she wouldn't get too close, as she looked at the the saddle bag. Gen quickly took off his pack, being careful not to pull his coat off with it.

“Hmm, I’ll see what I can do. Would you be a dear, and remove your things, and I’ll have a look see at salvaging this disaster''

Gen removed his sketchbook and pencils, as well as a small box, and a rolled up military style blanket, and placed them on a nearby table that rarity had told him to put them.

Putting on her glasses, as her horn began to glow a dull blue color, as she took the bag with her magic.

Seemingly displeased with the condition of the pack, as she flipped it about looking at all the seems, she let out a hmmm, as she squinted her eyes, as she looked at the torn portion of the harness.

“Well ... Oh sorry where are my manners? I didn’t get your name?” She asked turning her head to the stranger standing there in the room.

“My name is Gen.” He said in a soft voice time today, as he was still feeling uneasy about being there.

“Ooo, how interesting, is it just Gen?” She questioned, slightly sarcastically. “I suppose you're not from around here are you?”

“Gen is just fine, and no I'm not from around here. I was just passing through, when something about Ponyville caught my eye.” Gen stated, with a slight awkwardness in his voice.

“Well Ponyville may not be the most glamourous, but it will draw you in nonetheless.”  She let out a sigh, and a slight giggle. ‘’So where are you from , since you're obviously not from around this part of Equestria?”

Rarity turned, and looked over at Gen with a slightly unpleasant look, as she looked at the coat he was wearing. She thought that it could use some work as well. Perhaps some gold trim, I want you looking nice for me.  She thought, before turning back to Gen's bag.

Well she is obviously thinks I look different, and is not happy with the way I look. Gen thought. But I suppose I could use a wash. Rarity doesn’t seem to be the type to get her hooves dirty, so I'll try not to get too close. After thinking that, Gen began by telling her why he looked the way he did, avoiding the question of where he’s from as well

“I travel a lot, so I come from all around.” Oh Celestia that sounded dumb! Gen thought.

“I can tell.” Rarity amusingly replied back as she tilting her head forward to look over her glasses, as she shook out some dirt, dust and who knows what from the inside the bag, as it floated to the side of her in a purple hue. “you have certainly done a number on your pack, how long have you had it? It looks very old.”

Gen felt embarrassed now. Maybe I should have cleaned it out first before I came here. He thought

“I’ve had that for quite awhile now, it has served me well, for a little over three years now, but before that I don’t know, since I found it in an old abandoned town I passed through.”

Gen scratched the back of his forehoof, as he wondered what Rarity would think of him, since she seemed to be the type to get everything new.

“Charming.” Rarity mused, squinting her eyes, as she questioned the bag’s cleanliness. “Well I’ve certainly never seen this material before. It’s fascinating.”

“Can you mend it?” Gen asked, tilting his head sideways, being careful not to stick his head out too far out from the collar of his coat , wondering if her designer’s eye had noticed his prominent collar and neck bones.

“Hmm, well…” She mumbled, as she stood there, closely looking at the bag once more. “I believe I can, but I’ll need a day, or two to do it, because I won't stand to see such a unique fabric go to waste. It must be properly washed.” She said, as she turned her nose up at it in disgust at its current state.

“Oh errr, I couldn’t have you do that, I'm fine with just a patch job. I don’t have too much to spend on fixing it... plus I don’t have a place to stay.” Well that wasn't quite true, he thought. I would have just camped outside of town, since I never get a place to stay. But I don’t want to stay that long.

“Oh come now , I like a challenge, and I refuse to let you walk out of here with a simple patch. Patches are a crime against fashion, besides, you look scary like that. I won't let you leave before I get you looking like a proper gentle pony.”

Rarity trotted off to place Gen’s saddle bag on a table, before coming back.

“I won't take no for an answer, and I know just the place you can stay.”

Gen stood there, unsure of what to say. Rarity was talking in a sweet and happy voice, but also at the same time, it was very assertive

“I really couldn’t, I don't want to cause any trouble.” Gen reasoned, as he scrambled his brain, trying to think of a way to get out of this, without being mean, or causing a stir.

“Oh come now, it’s no trouble at all dear.” Rarity continued, batting her eyelashes. “And besides you'll be able to stay at the library for the time being with my friend Twilight, who would love to talk to you about your journeys.”

For buck sake! I don’t want to do this. Gen thought, unable to protest as Rarity continued talking on about how he would love it here, and continued on, as she went to the door.

“Oh spike!” She called out the door, before turning back to Gen. You will just love Twilight!  She's just the best friend a pony could have, and I bet you have never met royalty before, have you?”

I was unsure of what to say to that, so I just said, “No.” But knowing that it was a lie, because I have, but just not the good kind of royalty.

Gen stood there, as he noticed the small dragon’s green spines whiz by the window, as he ran by, to the front door. Gen chuckled at the thought that the dragons name might be Spike, because it seems like something you might call a small dog, and the way Rarity called him, reinforced the thought.

“Yes Rarity?” Spike asked, as he stopped at the door with a tone of lust in his voice. Is there something I can do?”

Oh god, he is a dog! Gen thought to himself, before noticing his scales and admiring their pattern.

He soon realizing that a large portion of the spines were actually thorns from the rose bushes he was digging around in earlier, which didn’t seem to bother him at all.

Gen's train of thought was broken, when Rarity turned around.

“Perfect!” Rarity exclaimed. You can stay at the library in the guest room, until I finish mending your bag.”

Spike ran up to Gen, and stuck out a claw to shake his hoof. “It’s nice to meet you. I'm Spike.”

Gen hesitated for a moment, before raising a hoof to shake his claw. “It’s nice to meet you too. I'm Gen.”

“Spike, would you be ever so kind as to carry Gen’s thing for him?” Rarity cheerfully asked.

Spike finished shaking Gen's hoof, and ran over to the table, Rarity used her magic to lift the things into his arms, as the table was just a bit too high for him to successfully reach.

Gen felt a bit uneasy, because this was the first time in years that he had anypony else carry his things. Besides them, his pack and coat they were all he had.

Rarity opened the door for Spike and Gen, as they walked through. Gen was sure to keep his tail tucked out of sight, as they walked away, even though it was starting to get cramped from not being able to move it around too much this morning.

“You take care now sweetie, with Gen's things.” Rarity warned, as they got to the end of her walk-way.

Gen could see Spike’s eyes go wide and glaze over, as he softly said to himself. “She called me sweetie…”

What a lover colt. Gen thought, seeing the little dragon’s heart melt with love.

“And I’ll be by later tomorrow to let you know how it’s going!” Rarity shouted from the door, in a ladylike fashion. “Take care now.”

“Well she was nice.” Gen pointed out, in a casual manner, breaking the silence.

“She's the nicest and most generous pony in all of Equestria!” Spike lovingly exclaimed.

“You don’t say.” Gen mused, as he thought she was a bit pushy to be the nicest. But it was extremely nice and generous of her to get him a place to stay. Thinking back to what Rarity had said, Gen, while doing so, had begun gently flicking out the thorns that were still lodged in Spikes back, as he walked in front of him, soon realizing that he couldn’t feel anything through his scales so, with a slight thought he sent all the remaining thorns flying off and onto the ground. Gen felt good that he was able to do it with enough precision so as not to be notice by Spike.

Despite being silent most of the time, Gen did not particularly like the silence between him and Spike. Gen tried to think of something to say, and then remembered that Rarity had said something about royalty.

“So Rarity mentioned something about royalty in Ponyville.” Gen asked, with slight awkwardness in his voice.

“huh? Oh yeah! Ha ha! That’s Twilight. You will be staying with us at the library. It’s funny, because she actually just became an alicorn a few months ago” Spike said, as he happily continued on down the path into town with Gen.

“Well how did that happen? I didn’t know you could become an alicorn.” Gen was puzzled at what he just heard, but it also cleared up as to who the mystery alicorn was he had seen the day before.

“Well Gen, it’s a long story that I’m sure Twilight will explain at some point tonight.”

“Sounds interesting.” Gen said with an amused grunt. “Why does she live here in a library and not up in Canterlot or someplace like that?” Gen turned to Spike. “And how about you? I've never seen a dragon living with pony folk before.”

“Ha ha! That’s a good story! To tell you the truth, I was part of Twilight’s entrance exam into Celestia’s  School for Gifted Unicorns. After I hatched, I've been with her ever since.” Spike went on to explain... What happened during the exam that involved a Pegasus named Rainbow Dash and the sonic rainboom, and then continued on to explain the situation that happened during the Summer Sun Celebration, but stopped as he mentioned Nightmare Moon’s return.

“Ha ha! But don’t worry, in the end we stopped Nightmare Moon and and saved the day, quite literally.”

They stopped at a very large tree that had been turned into a building in the centre of the town. It had windows and door placed into it, and platforms built into its upper branches to form rooms.

“Well here we are.” Waving his tail in the direction of the library, unable to motion with his claws full.

Gen looked the library over, slightly nervous to meet this Twilight.

“Come on in, and I’ll introduce you to Twilight.” Spike said, as he turned and walked towards the library's large stable door before stopping, and turning to Gen. “Could you give me a hoof?” He asked.

“Oh, sure.” Gen responded, as he did a quick step to the door, and opened it for Spike, as he stood with his arms full. “Thank you for carrying my things for me, Spike.” He said, as Spike walked past.

“No problem, I'm happy to help.” Spike happily replied, as he placed the things on the table, before calling for Twilight.

“Twilight! We have a guest ....” Spike waited for a moment, before calling for her again.

“Hmm where is she? She didn’t have anything to do today.”

Gen just stood there looking at the large shelves that were carved into the hollowed out trees walls, reading over some of the titles.

Wow. I thought as I looked. I saw dozens of books on magic and spells, and dozen more on history and science. I tried to think of something that I wanted to research, but was unable to think of one, only then remembering the list of things in my sketchbook that I had written down. Looking over to where Spike had placed my things, I saw a piece of paper sticking out from underneath the pile. It wasn’t one of mine.

Seeing that Spike had left the room, Gen slid everything off at once, hovering it above the note and then sliding it out with a hoof. It wasn't mine, it was a note left for Spike.”

“Spike!” Gen shouted, not knowing where he was.

Spike walked down the stairs a few seconds later, seemingly unaware that his name was called.

“huh, I don’t know where she is.” Spike stated, while scratching his head.

Gen slid the note he found, to the edge of the table. “There was a note on the table.” Gen gave a small smile when he saw that Spike seemed a bit embarrassed by the idea that he didn’t see the note earlier. But Gen just smiled, knowing that Spike would never have seen it under my things.

Spike took the note, and looked it over. “Should have guessed it, she went out for a flying lesson with Rainbow Dash.” Spike crumpled up the paper, and threw it into the waste paper bin. “Come on, I'll show you your room, and then I'll see if I can find Twilight.”

Spike led Gen through the hall on the main floor, and into the back near the science, and anatomy section, and in the far corner was a door that led to a decent sized room with a bed, work table and dresser, and a small bathroom.

“Here it is. The sheets are clean and everything, and you don’t have to worry about some pony coming in unannounced because the door has its own lock on the inside.”

They both walked out as Spike pointed out some of the other things in the library, and then showed Gen where the kitchen was, and telling him to help himself, before they walked back to the main entrance.

“Well that’s about it, upstairs is mine and Twilight’s room, would you like me to bring your stuff to your room?” Spike asked, with a cheerful voice, as he aimed to make a good impression on his otherwise lacking tour of the library.

“No thank you, I can manage on my own.” Gen replied.

“Ok, I’ll let you get settled, while I go see where Twilight is.”

“Thank you.” Gen said, as he began to gather his stuff. Putting his pencil roll in his coat pocket.

“I’ll be back soon, and don’t worry about any pony that comes in looking for a book, they won't bother you, and they should know where to look for their book.” Spike chuckled. “Ha! Twilight made sure of that! She made pamphlets about how to find the book you want, and how the shelving system works!” Spike said, attempting to make it sound exciting as he turned and left, smiling, and happily running down the steps to find Twilight, and tell her about their new guest.
