Ch05. The Letter's

Futile made it back to his house in due time, walking inside and finding Kira sitting on his couch, the mare looking up at him and smiling as she slowly got up. “I already took care of packing your things,” she said, “you didn’t seem to keep many personal possessions.”

“Of course not,” said Futile as he grabbed his things, “I was always on the move looking for you, couldn’t really afford to keep many things when one living like that. Now come on, there is a train leaving for Ponyville soon, and if we hurry we just might make it.”

She nodded, and then hurried along with him out the door and to the train station, making it on quickly and getting their own car for the trip.

As the settled down into bed, Futile decided he would get a little frisky with his mate, moving up close before nibbling a bit on her shoulder. He expected many responses, but one he didn’t expect was her prehensile tail slithering under his body and beginning to play with a certain part of his anatomy.

He gave her a look, receiving a giggle as she spoke to him. “Being a Kirin has its perks, but so does being a Thestral I here. Now, while I use my tail to relieve your stress, why don’t you use those talented wing claws of yours to relieve some of mine?”

“As you wish, my angel of the darkness.”

“Twilight, letter from the princess!”

“Just place it on the table Spike.”

Twilight waited till she was sure Spike was gone, knowing that the young drake was extremely worried about her. When she was sure he was gone, she got out of bed, heading over to the table and grabbing the letter in her magic, before sitting down and beginning to read.

Dear Twilight Sparkle.

I know you weren’t expecting a letter from me so soon, but I felt the need to give you this news. Futile visited me in my palace today, to tell me that he is giving up his titles and moving back to Ponyville with his love, the one from his dreams.

I know this must be heart breaking for you, but I felt you should know, mostly so that hopefully it can help you get over him. However, that is not the only reason I have sent this, the other reason is because I wish for you got gather some information for me.

You see, before he left, I asked Futile if I could meet with his mate, to which he said no, saying he does not trust me. This, coupled with the fact that Luna has been unable to enter his dreams at all, means we know nothing about this mare, and I would like to rectify that. So if you can, please give us any information you can on her when she arrives, for I have a feeling this mare may be special.

Sincerely, Princess Celestia.

Twilight sat there in silence, her mind reeling from this. The fact that Luna didn’t know of the mare was a bit surprising, but that Celestia didn’t know anything about a Kirin walking about the kingdom, it was unsettling at best.

But a smile crept upon Twilight’s face, for now she had information which her teacher didn’t know about, which excited her to no end.

So with a giggle she grabbed a quill and parchment, and began to write her letter to the princess.

Dear Princess Celestia

You’re lucky that this letter came to me today, for I have some great news. I have already met Futile’s mate, for she came to town looking for him and I led her to him, so I know what she looks like. Surprisingly she is of the species of ponies long thought extinct, the Kirin, though she didn’t tell me where she was from.

She only stayed for a short while, but in that short while I was able to find out a lot about the curse which afflicted both her and Futile, which I shall share with you now. Apparently it’s a dream based curse called the Curse of the True Loves Glimpse, a curse that forces you to dream of your perfect mate till you find them. It bears many properties, for instance it is hereditary, often skipping a generation according to her, and it begins the moment they are born.

It also makes it so that you can love no one else but the one in their dream, with no indication as to if this ends when they find that pony. And the last part of the curse, which according to Kira, that’s Futile’s mate by the way, is the worst part of it, for the two lovers could be split apart by great spans of not only distance, but also time.

One last thing, I don’t know if this is related to the curse or not, but I feel I should mention it. When Kira was here, I found out she was pregnant, and it appears that…amazingly, Futile is the father. The only thing she can guess is somehow, the magic of the curse supplied the necessary materials for them to conceive so far apart.

That’s pretty much all I know, but seeing as how they are coming to town soon, maybe I can find out more. I shall write to you as soon as I can gather more information, but till then, maybe we can start writing back and forth more, like we used to.

With love, Twilight Sparkle.

Luna woke up to the sound of knocking on her door, lifting her head and giving it a quick shake to clear the blurriness from her vision, before commanding whoever it was to enter. When her sister walked into the room, a smile grew on her face; the young alicorn got out of bed and went to hug her sister. “Tia, what brings you to my room this late in the day?”

“Twilight just answered my letter back about Futile’s mate, and while the identification of her species shocked me a bit, it was the other information she gave which…which made me pause and come to you.”

“Well what is it sister, if there is anything you need you know I am willing to help.”

Celestia nodded then, handing Luna the letter and watching her as she read it, noting the look on her sisters face go from pleasant, to shocked, and by the end she was having to repress tears as she choked out a few words. “I…I had thought…”

“So you do know of it,” said Celestia, receiving a nod from her sister as the younger alicorn sat down. However, when she didn’t speak further, Celestia sat beside her and wrapped a wing around her, giving her a comforting hug before speaking. “Luna, can you tell me about it?”

Luna nodded, “It…it was a spell we crafted many moons ago, for a mare who wished upon our stars, like ponies sometimes do now. She had wished that her children would never have to struggle to find love, that they could just…just be granted the knowing of the one they were supposed to be with, so they didn’t have to suffer through the trials of finding the one dearest to their heart like she once did. So, I crafted The True Loves Glimpse, but…but I never intended for it to end up like this.”

“Then there must be more to it,” said Celestia, “for you and I both know that spells don’t last this long unless they have an everlasting component to them, and…”

Celestia stopped then, her eyes widening a bit as she looked at her sister in horror, “Sister…you didn’t…?”

“Didn’t what?” asked Luna, even though she knew where this was leading.

“Luna…” started Celestia, “did…did you weave a part of your alicorn magic into this spell?”

Luna hesitated, then nodded her head, “I wanted to make sure it would last, I didn’t think it would bleed into the next generation…or jump species.”

“Well it did,” said Celestia, “but that’s beside the point, why would you make a spell with these specific stipulations.”

“But it wasn’t supposed to do that,” said Luna exasperatedly, “I only meant for the original spell to affect the wishers daughter, so that she could find her soul mate by being drawn to him through dreams. It was never meant to bind their heart souly to that of the one in their dreams, nor was it to affect the one they were dreaming about.”

“And what about this Kirin’s pregnancy?”

“…Well, we did put a part in the spell which would make the daughter more fertile, but how it could have caused this, I just don’t know.”

“That’s the point Luna,” said Celestia, “mother always warned us about how our alicorn magic has unpredictable if not outright dangerous effects anything but grand spells, which explains everything that is going on here. The only thing we can hope for now is that there is a way to break it.”

Celestia looked down at Luna, who looked like she wanted to hide something, but finally the lunar mare spoke up. “There…there is no way to break the spell.”

“What?”

Luna gave a sheepish grin, “Well, we knew that eventually we would soon be joined by a love alicorn, thanks to you letting us see mother’s writings. So…so we decided to insure that, if we ever used this spell in the future, that alicorn wouldn’t be able to break it if she mistook it for something malicious.”

“Luna,” groaned Celestia, “I didn’t show you those writings so you could plan ahead; I showed you those so you would know we wouldn’t be alone anymore, for you were starting to get really depressed about our immortality.”

Celestia shook her head, looking out the window in her sister’s room and sighing as her gaze fell on the town. “I’ll just have to see him tomorrow and tell him his children will simply have to forgo finding mates, for I don’t want this spell spreading around.”

“But Tia,” said Luna, “that won’t work, there are probably hundreds affected by this spell by now, do you plan on finding them all and telling them they can’t have children?”

“If I must Luna,” said Celestia, “If I…”

Suddenly she stopped, her eyes glowing blue for a moment before she collapsed on the ground, Luna screaming in shock.

“SISTER!”
