CHAPTER 1
I woke to the soft sound of nature's finest creations, quite well tempting me to fall back asleep, but I am usually quite occupied with the day anyways, so I might as well get it over with.
I slowly rose from my basket, stretching myself in the most pleasuring manner, and little to my surprise, the satisfaction was too much as my body fell back onto the soft bed sheets.
“Spike! I know you're up!” Rang a voice in the distance.
'Aw come on! I was just getting comfortable!'
But I knew it would be relentless pressure if I were to fall back into my comfort zone anyways.
“Yeah, yeah, I am coming!” I yelled tiredly down the stairs.
I managed to crawl back out of my basket slowly and grudgingly which was probably the most dreadful part of the morning. Upon hitting the cold wooden floor a chill ran through my spine causing me to momentarily shiver uncontrollably.
Upon gaining enough strength with myself I had managed to pace myself down the stairs to see Twilight apprehended with her studies.
“You're studying already?” I asked.
“Oh no!” Twilight responded.
“I'm... just writing for fun!”
“About what?” I asked.
“Uuh... ehrm. You know just random stuff...” Twilight said suspiciously.
“You're subtlety is something you might want to improve on Twilight. Seriously what are you writing about?”
“Oh nothing! Just you know... Personal stuff.”
'Personal stuff... Really? She's a royal princess! What could she possibly have problems with?'
Something about the purple pony was quite different to her standard behavior in the morning, which mainly consisted of nagging me to death, and being quite crabby most of the time. This time she felt more receded, and self conscious.
“Twilight, come on I'm serious! We all know you can't have problems, I mean you are a princess for pete's sake!”
Twilight sighed reluctantly as she closed a bright blue book with a golden-like casing spreading around the cover.
I chuckled to what I saw.
“*Pfffft* I... Is that a diary?” I blurted in hilarity.
“Ugh! For the last time Spike, just because I am a princess it doesn't make me any different from anypony else! Besides the wings of course. And to answer your question, anypony can have problems. You have seen Celestia upset before haven't you?”
“So you admit you are hiding something?” I said curiously.
“What? I a... ugh... never mind.
Anyways, I'll be busy for almost the rest of the day, you... can do whatever you want so long as it doesn't involve breaking things.”
“Really!?” I exclaimed.
I very rarely get breaks from Twilight's constant shenanigans which left me gasping for air, it's these kind of days that make the month.
“Yeah I finally got involved with... let's just say political stuff with the Canterlot government ponies, I just need to fill out some registration paperwork and I we will likely be taking a trip to our hometown!”
“Sounds... Fun?” I said dryly.
Twilight subsequently rolled her eyes in a comical manner.
“Uuh, Twilight? Why have they not accepted you into the group or whatever before. Because didn't you like save Equestria from eternal darkness, chaos, and just saving Canterlot all together? Not to mention you were Celestia's personal protege.”
“Eehm, yeah! I... am not sure why! Ha ha...” Twilight said conspicuously.
“Whatever Twilight...”
“Actually Spike, it would probably be best if you left the library. I just have the nagging feeling I am going to have to do something needing a lot of focus anyways.”
“Really?” I said excitedly
“Sounds exquisite m'lady!” I giggled.
My body was suddenly enveloped with a lavender covering of glistening light as I got slowly pulled away from my position, leading me up face to face with Twilight.
“But I really mean it this time Spike, I want you to come back guilt free!”
She did have a point, practically every time I went into the village alone and unaccompanied like this I usually had something on my chest I had to disclose by the end of it.
“Seriously Spike.” She continued “Stay out of trouble!”
“Me? Get in trouble? Naaah!” I said gleefully.
“Oh really? Like 2 weeks ago with the outhouse and the chi...”
“You don't have to bring that up Twilight!” I said interrupting her exposition.
“Ok Spike... Now scram you little lizard!” Twilight said playfully, bringing me closer with her wing, embracing me as if I were her own.
Something about that particular hug felt something odd, her grip was tight and warm, something much stronger than my bedsheets could ever deliver. Which also made things a little awkward.
Pushing myself away I managed to brief a few words despite my slight social ineptitude.
“Eegh right, see you later this afternoon mom!”
'And great!' Adding onto the already present uncomfortable scenario.
'Did I really just call her mom?'
I mean she kind of always acted like that towards me, but I really more of acknowledged that as more of a sibling gesture.
Suddenly snapping out of the emotional moment I looked back up to my confused guardian's facial expression.
“Di... Did you just call me mom?” As she uncomfortably pushed me a short distance away from her.
“Uuuh, I... I dunno. Everything felt so... like you wer...”
“It's ok Spike, just... take care of yourself.”
“Yeah... I'll keep that in mind! Anyways see you later Twilight!”
“You too Spike.” Twilight said satisfyingly.
I walked towards the large wooden doors (relative to my size) seeing the cracks in between the frame and the walls having spouts of sunlight breaching them.
Opening the door I saw the glistening town of Ponyville, including the citizens engaging in a plethora activities ranging from grocery shopping to hanging at the local lounge. It surprised me when i heard there are actually countries in other parts of the world, not in Equestria where ponies are actually living unhappily, I just couldn't seem to grasp that.
This really intrigued me seeing everything so perfect where problems were rarely seen and were usually caused by an outside force beyond the towns control. I am quite happy with where I am.
Taking the first few steps was the best part, immediately immersing myself in the natural glory of outdoors, which was something I couldn't have too much now that Twilight has gotten very busy with her... princess things. The grass on the ground brushed against my feet as the birds chirped up in the sky, both eager to meet the newcomer to step into the land of perfection.
After a few moments of engrossment, I began my trek into town.
Taking this time period of free thought, I decided to use that time to analyze Twilight's unusual behavior.
She was in fact hiding something, but I couldn't really identify what it was, but it did have something to do with that book. It was a diary, so maybe something happened to her that I am unaware of? Or maybe she is feeling something differently without a cause?
At least it was nice to know that she is writing in a diary, I still couldn't get over that.
I chuckled at that fond memory and savored the moment as I could, but I decided to refocus on my original task.
Suddenly, a hurdling pain racketed through my body as I was flung off my feet into the grating dirt. The larger rocks scratched my soft underbelly, leaving a trail of marks on both the ground and my scales. Soon after collision I could feel the after-effects of a hard impact traveling it's way through my body with intense amount of stinging and blunt pain.
Extremely dizzy I could hear the faint moans of other ponies who seemed to have smacked me with an unidentified object.
I decided to lay there in prosperous agony and see what the culprits response to their recent bludgeoning was.
After a few moments, activity came to life.
“Oh my gosh! I think we killed Spike!” Rang a high pitched voice.
“He's not dead Sweetie Belle, you can see him breathing.” Said a deeper voice in a country accent, giving me a perspective of who just caused this bounty of unrelenting pain.
“Somepony see if he's still alive!”
“Why are you so worked up? He's obviousl... oh I know why, is it because you have a cr...”
“No! Just see if he's ok!” The same voice said worryingly.
'What does Sweetie Belle have?' I thought.
“I'm not doing it!” Stated a final voice, solidifying my knowledge on the hit-and-run miscreants.
“Yer just chicken!”
“Stop..! Calling me that! Ugh fine I'll do it...”
After a brief moment of silence and some echoing hoofsteps I felt a jabbing pain sporadically poking me in random places, and it got grating really fast.
“Are you dead?” Asked the orange figure standing above me.
I managed to move slightly in a futile attempt to flip myself back up, but I was too weak to do so.
“He's alive!” Gasped Sweetie Belle.
“No! Really?” Retorted Scootaloo.
I slowly began to pick myself up off the ground with great difficulty, and tumbled once or twice in the process. But eventually I managed to stand with enough strength to keep myself that way for a while.
“Hey.” I said.
The three fillies stood awkwardly before me, unable to form a statement to my comment, until Sweetie Belle stepped forward.
“Yeah uhm... sorry for kinda...”
“Smacking me with a steel wagon.” I said angrily.
“Uh, yeah... that...”
There was a sort of awkward silence after that, as each side didn't know what to say to each other, which was kind of funny seeing their confused faces.
It still didn't warrant my full forgiveness, but it was an accident so it didn't bother me too much.
Realizing we were practically just staring at each other, I decided to break the silence.
“So, what were you guys doing with that cart anyways?”
“Oh uhm, we we're jus' gonna bringing supplies to our clubhouse for out next Cutie Mark Crusaders project!”
Looking around for the first time I could see the scattered remains of what once was a cart full of items into a junkyard of random trinkets and mechanisms, which Applebloom began to reorganize.
“And what might that be?” I asked, crossing my arms.
“Hey uhm... why don't you come and see for yourself!” Asked Sweetie Belle.
Thinking for a moment, I hadn't exactly planned anything when I get into Ponyville, so I don't see why not.
“Eeh, sure.” I responded.
“Great! Besides we could use you for something anyways.” Responded Scootaloo.
"Why should I trust you guys, I mean you almost killed me."
"It was an accident! And yeah I'm sorry, but this will be so much more fun!" Stated Scootaloo excitedly.
“I am starting to reconsider my choice...” I said.
“No time, Come on let's go!” Yelled Sweetie Belle, as they Dragged my off into the frightening unknown.
By a show of hands, who thinks I am retarded? *Entire world raises their hands.*
Ok that was expected, how long did it take me to write this? A month? I dunno, Again I am really sorry I have just been so busy I couldn't keep up. Expect more frequent updates in the future because I got incredibly distraced, and no this fanfiction will not die.
“See girls, I told you I could find a canon at this hour!”
“NO! I take it back, no, no, no, NO!” I exclaimed.
“Fer the last time Spike, it’s completely safe, I calculated the parabola of your arc to land you in th’ most painless manner possible.” Applebloom retorted.
“Yeah well, I came to help you, not satisfy your crave for vicious bloodshed!” I yelled.
“Come on Spike, it will be fun! If you live I will do it too, I promise.” Stated Scootaloo.
“I don’t ca… wait what do you mean by IF I live..?”
The two fillies giggled while Sweetie Belle stood awkwardly to the side.
“We’re just jokin’ Spike, you’ll be fine!”
I sighed in defeat, it doesn’t relinquish my undying need to escape my bundled contraption, because quite frankly it was quite uncomfortable to be messily tied up in a 17 foot long rope. But I knew that they were young and still ambitious, they would never hurt me on purpose… right?
“Allight, ya’ll ready?” Asked Applebloom.
“Yes!” Rang Scootaloo.
“No…” I squeaked.
“3!”
“No no wait!” I pleaded.
“2!”
“Can’t we talk this over some tea?”
“1!”
“I was the one who spilled milk all over your romance novel!”
“LAUN… Wait what?” Quizzed Applebloom.
‘Whoops, I thought it would’ve gone off by now.’
“Uuuuh… I…”
“LAUNCH!”
My exposition was cut off by the loud blast of fire and gunpowder exploding and combusting. But fortunately I was not worried about that, because I had to focus on living as long as possible as my body stretched and swam in the air like a graceful swan caught on fire.
So far it wasn’t that bad, as I was immune to most heat sources so I barely felt a thing, and admittedly the cold breeze of air did feel quite nice as it rustled through my spines.
My stomach rose and I began to discharge a dose of dragon vomit, which was basically fire with disintegrated vomit dissolved into the mix. It is also somewhat uncomfortable to have it splattered across your face.
My acceleration began to slow at snail’s pace, but exponentially picking up speed. Looking below myself I saw the lingering coastline of the Everfree forest, slowly approaching my direction. And to add to the inevitable, I began to descend.
‘Did these girls need my help or were they trying to kill me?’
I was now above the large body of trees, I could briefly see a few animals lurking around the more sparce and exposed parts of the forest. The falling sensation began to kick in as I felt my spine rattling and tingling.
In an attempt to slow myself down, I spread my arms wide increasing my wind resistance which for the most part worked. This kind of reminded my when I accidentally tripped the wire of that hot air balloon and landed the Everfree forest. The one unfortunate difference here is that I am going to be smacking into the hard dirt at 200 miles per hour.
The ground began to approach me faster and faster, and as I braced for impact my eyes shed a few tears (primarily from the speed) and contracted.
I waited, and waited, but nothing really seemed to happen. Taking initiative I slowly opened my eyes to find myself dizzy and unable to focus. Quickly I shut them again and rubbed them furiously to the point of fanaticism, but it was better than the pain they endured before.
Opening them once more I could see a vast plain of darkness with a few abounding plants in the way of my vision. I began to pick myself up off the surprisingly soft terrain to get a wider view of the landscape.
I tripped and stumbled, but I couldn’t blame my legs as they were shivering like mad. It was incredibly hard to pick myself count, but eventually I managed to hold.
Immediately I looked below to see a somewhat large patch of moss that logically cushioned my fall, I guess Applebloom doesn’t want me dead after all.
After absorbing the atmosphere a ringing tone of fear began enveloping my senses, I couldn’t think of anything else. I began to take my first steps in the new world, or at least new to my previous memories.
‘What did those psychotic foals want me to get again…’ I thought.
Honestly I was surprised I could even think about trying to do a favor for ponies who just tried to kill me, I would think that they would plan the natural surroundings. I lived the impact, I’m sure they had planned this out.
‘It was… something round…. And uh orange… And rubber, that’s it!’ I remembered.
I paced around the general vicinity not wanting to deal with outside behavior, I kept myself hidden while still keeping one eye for the objective. Even if they wanted me to get a basket ball for them I really didn’t want to come back empty handed after this traumatic experience.
Actually I want to make their lives as miserable as possible because they did want me to get a basket ball.
There perched upon a high stone was an orange sphere sitting there in one of the few openings to the surface that is not clouded up by tree leaves. I pondered if I even wanted to bring it back for them, their selfishness almost got me killed for a basketball they could have bought in a convenience store. But after all I guess I kinda owe Applebloom for her book, and I guess Sweetie Belle for giving her bad dating advice. I still don’t remember why I did that.
I made the most painful shrug any living organism has ever performed as I approached the tall stone erecting from to soil.
It was somewhat difficult to get a grip on it, as it was at a very high angle. But after a few attempts I managed to find a few crevices carved into the rock with consecutive dents following the first.
After a few trials and climbing strategies I finally reached the peak of the stone tower, with bruised claws no less. Seeing the objective in sight I carefully brought my feet forwards, careful not to slip on the vine’y slope that loomed over the edge. It slowly became more steep the closer I approached it even to the point of me having to crawl on my belly to get enough stability.
Eventually I pushed myself forwards to grab the ball right before I started to slip off. With the ball cradled in my right hand I reached forwards to grab hold of a few vines that squiggled around the top surface. I additionally used the high friction of the basket ball to slowly screech myself to an incredible unstable halt.
I awkwardly swung back and forth over the looming edge of the pillar with no real options left, it wasn’t really bad, I just couldn’t do anything. I heard the dreaded crackling sound as the plants above began to pull forwards and twist. Frantically I threw the ball back up onto the rock surface which rolled off the other side.
‘Oh great…’ I spouted.
Still dangling off, I thought of how I might be able to get off this wretched island, the answer became more and more clear. Relinquishing my grip I fell to the ground, but instead of suffering a broken skill, I penetrated through the dirt surface.
I flung backwards as dirt threw itself onto as many places possible, but long story short it was incredibly discomforting, or at least discomforting for what I was in previously.
The fall was long, but there were enough obstructions in the way to keep me falling at a steady pace. It seemed like hours before I felt the cold trickle of water slithering it’s way down my sensitive underbelly, and subsequently collapsing on the large, dark bed of what felt like dirt.
All around me was darkness giving me the perception of a snail, or in better terms practically blind. I didn’t care for getting up anymore, every time I try it seems I dig myself a hole deeper and deeper. With a final sigh I closed my eyes and fell unconscious.
Sorry I am a bit unsure about the quality of this chapter, if you have any complaints please tell me because I was not fully satisfied with the outcome of this one. :(
Well see you guys soon.
