Chapter One: The Arrival

Out on a grassy field, six mares had gathered. It was a sunny day, and the Mane Six were sitting on a picnic blanket, enjoying delicious food from Applejack’s own kitchen, and talking about whatever came to mind.

“This food is truly wonderful, Applejack. I just don’t know how you do it!” Rarity exclaimed.

“Aw, shucks. It’s nothin’ really,” she humbly retorted.

“It’s almost as awesome as my flying skill!” Rainbow Dash yelled out, performing loops in the air. The others rolled their eyes.

“Oh, Rainbow Dash. Nothing’s as awesome as you!” Pinkie Pie stated.

“That’s right!” she said, proudly holding a hoof to her chest. “You can’t beat…” she was cut off as a bolt of lightning struck her on the head, knocking her down to the ground. “Hey, watch what you’re doing up there, will ya!?” she belted, annoyed at what had just happened. She then looked confused as she noticed something – there were no clouds. “What the heck?” she questioned. Then, suddenly, another bolt struck right beside her, causing her to jump slightly.

“Twilight, what’s going on?” Fluttershy quizzed.

“I don’t know. If there are no clouds, where is the lightning coming from?” she asked.

A loud crackling noise could be heard in the sky as a rift was torn in the fabric of space. A huge bolt of lightning then struck the picnic blanket, sending all of the mares flying in different directions and destroying the area of the ground where it struck.

“What the…” Rainbow Dash mumbled, getting up, flying towards the crater that had formed. She couldn’t make anything out through the smoke and dust, except for a small blue, shimmering figure. The others awakened slowly and made their ways to the crater. They all questioned what had just occurred.

“What was that?” Twilight asked.

“Is this the end of the world caused by an alien creature that is going to consume our brains and use their power to control us all?” Pinkie screamed, quickly, almost unintelligibly.

Fluttershy looked in the crater, seeing a small figure lying inside it. “Um…girls?” Fluttershy said, almost silently, trying to get their attention.

“Is it dangerous?” Rarity quizzed.

“What in tarnation?” Applejack inquired.

“Girls…” Fluttershy said, still very quietly.

“Step back, it could be hazardous,” Twilight instructed, but received no response as the others were too busy clamoring about what the crater possibly could be.

“Girls!” Fluttershy cried out as she raised her voice, getting the attention of the others.

“Yes, Fluttershy?” Twilight asked.

“There’s something laying in there.”

“Oh?” was all Twilight said as she stepped up to the crater. The dust and smoke had cleared and the child was left there, surrounded by blue flames. His body was scorched, with blood dripping from every orifice on his head and he was wearing scraps of clothing.

“Oh, my goodness!” Fluttershy nearly screamed as she flew down into the small crater, lifting him out. She gently set him on the ground. The group stared in shock as they viewed his tattered body.

“Is it dead?” Applejack blatantly asked. Fluttershy put hear ear on his chest.

“It has a heartbeat!”

“That’s good! We need to get it to a hospital, pronto!” Rainbow Dash shouted, motioning for them to put him on her back. Applejack and Pinkie Pie helped load on the child while Twilight looked back into the crater.

“Alright, let’s g-“

“What is that?” Twilight asked, pointing a hoof down to the middle of the crater. The others trotted over to the crater.

She was pointing at a red book of sorts. On the front was an hourglass mark, with four circles on the edges and one in the middle where the lines crossed. Above that were two sets of foreign characters, separated by a sun shape with a spiral in the center. Around the two lines of text and sun was a rectangular shape, with edges that curved slightly inwards.

“It’s a book,” Rarity obviously said.

“I understand that,” Twilight said, levitating the book up to her face. “I’ve never seen a book like this before…” she said, wandering off into thought.

“I realize that you’re all interested and stuff Twilight, but we need to get this…creature to the hospital, now!” Rainbow Dash stated.

“Okay! Let’s go!” she yelled back as Rainbow Dash quickly flew towards Ponyville. The others galloped after her. “I’ll get Spike!” she told the others, who curtly nodded.

“Spike!” Twilight shouted as she burst into the library. She quickly searched around for Spike. She looked around all over the place, but couldn’t seem to find him. She sighed, realizing he probably wasn’t there.

“Hoo,” an owl called out, causing Twilight to jump.

“Owlicious, you need to stop scaring me like that. Anyways, have you seen Spike?” she asked in a panic. The owl pointed towards the laboratory.

‘What would he be doing in the basement?’ she thought to herself.

“Thank you, Owlicious!” she shouted as she rushed to the basement.

“Hoo.”

Twilight entered the basement and saw Spike.

“Spike!” she yelled as the young dragon turned around.

“Oh, hey Twilight. That was fast; it’s only been about thirty minutes,”

“Yeah, we ha-“ she started as she saw the spotless lab equipment. “Wow, you did a top notch job cleaning this.”

“I figured that this place could use a good cleaning. Anyways, what were you saying?”

“I was saying that we had to cut it short because of a sudden…er…barrage of lightning strikes.”

“That’s weird. I don’t think that there was supposed to be any cloudy weather today.”

“That’s the weird thing: There were no clouds. When the third bolt struck, it left a crater with a child.”

“A child?”

“Yes. It was scorched, badly wounded and was wearing tattered clothing. Rainbow Dash and the others took it to the hospital. I came here to send a letter to the princess.”

“Oh, my. Let’s go upstairs and do that, then.”

The two went upstairs, where Spike got out a scroll and a quill.

“Ready!”

“Ahem,” she coughed.

“Dear, Princess Celestia,

Just minutes ago, a series of lightning bolts struck out in the fields near Ponyville, revealing a child of unknown origin and a book that was with him. I don’t know if you saw it, but it appeared to have come from a rift in the sky. The child is heavily wounded and burned, as well as wearing tattered clothing. He has a heartbeat, but was barely breathing when we observed his injuries closer. He is currently in the Ponyville hospital. We do not know if this creature is dangerous so we would like you to come in case he goes rogue upon waking up.

Your faithful student, Twilight Sparkle”

“Got it!” Spike informed.

“Send it off then!” she commanded. He blew out a flame over the spell, sending it towards Canterlot in a plume of smoke.

“What do we do now?”

“Hop on! I’ll take you to there!”

“Alright!”

The mare burst out of the front door with the dragon on her back and hurried to the hospital.

Rainbow Dash entered the hospital and galloped to the front counter, panting.

“Hello. How may I help you today?” the receptionist asked.

“I need intensive care for this child!” she said, turning her body slightly, showing the youth.

“Whoa…” she murmured, eyes widening. “Alright, we’ll send a stretcher immediately!” she said, going into the room behind her. A few moments later, she came back with said stretcher and motioned the cyan Pegasus to load him on, which she soon did. “You can wait there for a little bit, or go do something until we get him set up,” she continued.

“Alright,” Rainbow Dash complied, walking over to a bench in the main room and sitting down on it. About five minutes later, Rarity, Applejack, Fluttershy and Pinkie came rushing into the hospital.

“We’re here!” Applejack yelled, alerting Rainbow Dash.

“There you are. Feels like I’ve been waiting forever for you guys to show up!”

“We’re not exactly as fast as you are, Rainbow,” Applejack said.

“Whatever. I got the creature checked in. They’re setting him up now.”

“Wonderful!” Rarity exclaimed as the receptionist came back in.

“He’s ready for you to come in,” she said.

“Good,” Fluttershy replied. The group followed the nurse into a long hallway with many rooms on both sides. She led them to a room far in the back of the hospital, where the boy was situated. He was laying on the gurney, hooked up to a machine that monitored his heartbeat, and a small pouch of fluids that was leaking into his body. He had bandages over most of his body, most of which were nearly dripping with blood. His head was cocked to one side, and he was breathing shallowly.

“I hope that he makes it,” Fluttershy prayed, sitting on a chair. The others also sat on chairs inside the room.

“So do ah, Fluttershy, so do ah,” Applejack reassured, staring intently at the child.
